An entertaining debacle

Obama doesn't play it smart:

The Obama camp, however, remains nervous about Mrs Clinton’s intentions and ambitions, and is preparing a face-saving package that will allow her to continue to play a role in health care reform, which has been her signature issue for more than a decade. Despite pressure from some Clinton allies, Mr Obama and his advisers do not wish to ask her to be his vice-presidential running mate.

Obama is ambitious, but he isn't anywhere nearly as brilliant as he'd like to think he is. Rather than negotiate his way into letting Hillary take the blame for Iraq and the economy, he'd rather take a too-early shot at the White House, one that he could very easily lose to John McCain. Whereas a term allowing Hillary to be the shadow president would likely give him three terms in office and grant him Saint Democrat status, this brokered deal will likely infuriate a portion of the support he needs and guarantee his doom.

The lesson? Politicians, in general, aren't smart enough to avoid being blinded by their ambitions.

UPDATE: Why, yes, I did laugh when learning about Obama belatedly severing his connections with Trinity. But I don't think even a divorce from Mrs. Obama combined with a sudden conversion to a white identity can save him now:

There goes that historic, transcendent, life-changing, not since the Gettysburg Address, "I have a dream," must-be-taught-in-every-school race speech. It didn't hold up three months, let alone the time it would take to print up new textbooks.
