Not at all indoctrinated

An epically silly left-liberal response:
of thousands of rose-waving Norwegians gathered in rain-drenched Oslo Thursday to deride mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik by singing a song he hates, viewing it as Marxist indoctrination. Some 40,000 people, according to police, massed in the rain at a square near the courthouse where Breivik is on trial for his July 22 attacks that killed 77 people, to sing "Children of the Rainbow" by Norwegian folk singer Lillebjoern Nilsen.... Last Friday, Breivik had said that Nilsen was "a very good example of a Marxist" who had infiltrated the cultural scene and that his song was typical of the "brainwashing of Norwegian pupils."

Protesters ranging from elderly in wheelchairs to young school children streamed into Youngstorget Square wearing colourful raincoats and carrying Norwegian flags and roses, which have come to represent Norway's peaceful response to the horrifying attacks. The culture ministers of the Nordic countries were also at the square to participate, while other similar events were to take place across Norway.
And here one might have imagined that mocking the kumbaya-instincts of the Left was exaggerated. It's certainly a counterproductive way of trying to prove to Breivik that they're not indoctrinated. Sing, children, sing!

Unity shouldn't be confused with brain washing.

Is it really that surprising that everyone who is against young person murder would be unified on this front?

I'm with you on the irony deficiency. See the Trayvon business for an example. Bunch of racists shouting racism.

So, this mob of Marxists didn't protest the mass murder, but they can organize a mob of Marxists to prove they aren't a mob of Marxists?

That sounds about right.

The only thing this story is missing is clever Brer Rabbit. Man, people are dummies. Or maybe mass murder brings out the rainbow in all of us.

Anonymous Gen. Kong April 26, 2012 3:18 PM

Snort. Breivik was working for someone. As Moldbug pointed out at the time, eliminating 70 future Quislings of Norway (the term is an insult to the real Vikdun Quisling, whose betrayal is dwarfed by the genocidal treason of the gang at Utoya island) did nothing to decapitate the future leadership there. It did, however, curb the leftist ruling elite's enthusiasm for Palestinian statehood and at the same improved their enthusiasm for participation in NATO's plans to make the Ummah safe for feminism and sodomy.

Brievik the Norwegian terrorist was motivated by anger. The demonstrators were gentle in their response but it was also a form of anger.

Does the story of the Crucifixion give every Christian anger? If so, it's quite a burden for the subconscious to carry.

Anonymous Rantor April 26, 2012 5:06 PM

E. Perline,

No, the story of the Crucifixion of my Lord and Savior does not make me angry. Christ died for my sin, just as he died for the sins of others. In a way it makes me sad, that we are such miserable creatures that God had to send his son to die to save us. It also comforts me to know that despite my sin, God loved me enough to want to save me.

Anonymous the abe April 26, 2012 5:36 PM

Anonymous Suomynona April 26, 2012 5:37 PM

E. PERLINE April 26, 2012 4:44 PM - Does the story of the Crucifixion give every Christian anger?

Hardly. In fact, that kind of reaction would be antithetical to our beliefs. Christians refer to Jesus' crucifixion and subsequent resurrection as the Good News - not "I can't believe those damned Jews killed Jesus!"

That an atheist would be so far off the mark isn't surprising.

I honestly wondered if his intent wasn't to get them to do just that. I could image him having a creepy grin while he listened to the singing. It's not a new tactic, you know. And given his notions, the odd political alliances he has, and his seeming ability to slay without conscience (quite scientific, actually) anything is possible with the man. It wouldn't even surprise me if some of those who did community organizing to make it happen... know. So it has always been with them.

Speaking of meanings, do you know what "profound" means and the absurdity of pairing it with the word "moron"?

That aside, I don't understand why you would wish tachycardia on someone. That's like wishing a mild ear infection on him, or Menke's disease.

Anonymous TLM April 26, 2012 6:27 PM

"That's a noise," grinned Breivik,
"That I simply must hear!"
So he paused. And Breivick put a hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow...

But the sound wasn't sad!
Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so!
But it WAS merry! VERY!

He stared down from the courthouse!
Breivik popped his eyes!
Then he shook!
What he saw was a shocking surprise!

Every Lib down in Norway, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any shame at all!
He HADN'T stopped Leftism from coming!
IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!

And Breivick, with hisfeet ice-cold in his cell,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without entitlements! It came without reason!
"It came without critical thinking, immigration reform or a tyrannical season!"
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then Breivick thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Liberalism," he thought, "doesn't come from a bore.
"Maybe Liberalism...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

And what happened then...?
Well...in Norway they say
That the Breivick's black heart
Grew even darker that day!

Anonymous Azimus April 26, 2012 6:32 PM

A group of Muslims came by and, screaming "Allah Akbar!" killed all of the singers.

In other words, the ones who sing while being lowered into their own cultural grave.

Baseball Savant: You just got Kalil and was able to get a little extra by moving down to #4!

Wait, wait, wait...I don't get this. Why was Cleveland so eager to give up those extra picks, when there was so little likelihood of Minnesota picking up Richardson. Were they that afraid of somebody else moving ahead of them? It's not like anyone else interested in doing so couldn't beat such a grand offer as a 4th, 5th, and 7th, after all...

Anonymous Baseball Savant April 26, 2012 11:14 PM

WaterBoy,

yeah, my only guess is that the Vikings were in talks with another team that might have been interested in jumping up to #3 and grabbing Richardson before Cleveland picks at #4. Otherwise it seems like a silly move considering there was no chance Minnesota would have drafted Richardson.

The only thing maybe I can think of is possibly Tampa trading up? They were originally sitting at #5 but traded down to #7 with Jax. Maybe the Vikings told Cleveland they would trade TB the #3 for the #5 if Cleveland didn't trade them the #4? Once Cleveland said they'd trade up then Tampa then traded down to #7.

I'm only saying this because TB did wind up taking a RB late in the 2nd round with Doug Martin.

You are right though that it doesn't make a ton of sense unless the Vikings were telling Cleveland they had another trade partner who wanted to trade up to #3. I guess Cleveland bought it.

"Children of the Rainbow" translation:

"A sky full of stars.
Blue sea as far as you can see.
A land where flowers grow.
Do you want more?
Together we will live
each sister and each brother.
Small children of the rainbow
and a fertile soil."

I think the proper response to horrific violence (of this sort) is to unify as a people, to show civility, to seek to forgive, and, yes, even to sing.

Then put the criminal to death.

Stupid? He understood clearly enough that the the wrong lies not with the immigrants themselves but with the people who voluntarily import restive, immiscible populations into their midst. He singlehandedly came close to doing serious damage to the Norwegian government, then he slaughtered 77 of their offspring at a training camp for their destructive ideology.
