A crisis wasted

The Obama administration needn't have gone to all that trouble to shoot up that Denver theater:
The weeks-long conference at the United Nations to produce an Arms Trade Treaty is ending without the creation of a treaty. None of the draft treaties which have circulated in the past several days came remotely close to finding consensus support. The impossibility of achieving consensus involved a wide variety of issues and nations, far beyond the Second Amendment concerns that have been raised by many American citizens.
What an embarrassment! To go to all that trouble and get nothing out of it but a few million more concealed carry permit holders. Don't those troublesome member states and NGOs realize that the White House can't override the Second Amendment without a solid international treaty to use as an excuse?

And the UN, UNgunified the world, forever!

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 4:07 AM

I'll admit I don't understand his behavior anymore.

Conspiracy still seems a stretch, since various versions call for things like local PD complicity and mind control.

Schizophrenia / mental illness seems possible, made worse by the shock of carnage and imprisonment, but still how was he stable enough to pull it off in the first place?

I still find the idea that this is mostly an act or deliberate insanity appealing, although I don't understand the benefit of his current theatrics, as he's no longer playing the Joker. Maybe he lost interest in the game and is now applying his past changing algorithm. Does insanity deliver any legal benefit?

I guess I'm still betting on a combination of 2 and 3, plus food intolerances.

It's ok my Thal-obsessed friend. Those deep eye cavities can only see so far. For the record, I am not telling you my cro-magnon, thal, or melonhead hit-point attributes, or my r or K-style RPG behavior.

Ohhh, wait, Colorado has the death penalty.

Now it makes sense.

He needs to act reeeeeeal crazy until after the trial.

Lethal injection can greatly curtail one's vascular capacity to enjoy conjugal visits.

This guy studied mental illness, let's see if he can fake out the psychologists.

Anonymous Idle Spectator July 28, 2012 4:48 AM

Only California, Connecticut, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, and Washington allow conjugal visits. Not Colorado.

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 4:55 AM

"Colorado permits special visits if permission is given, these may included conjugal but are decided case by case."

I'd bet it's more lenient for mental cases.

Yes, I fail at humour. *bows head in shame*

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 5:38 AM

I bet Holmes didn't know Colorado has no conjugal visits. That explains his ubiquitous "will you visit me in prison" line.

It fits with his other rookie errors: FMJ over hollowpoint, jamming magazines, a cartoon bomb with no timer. He was only a grad student, after all. Thals in their 30's and 40's seem capable of putting together a more thorough performance, like the Unabomber and the Bath School Massacre guy. Hell even Breivik did better, and he's no genius.

But let's cut him some slack, he was clearly pressed for time.

Only if you are male.

If you are female, I'm going to tell you that you are funny anyway, to get into your pants. You special snowflake, you. The dress looks perfect too.

He got turned down three times on AdultWhoreFinder. Now, I'm no expert, but that's as sad as just being friends with a hooker.

Nobody read Crime and Punishment? Remember Raskolnikov's 'fever'?

Guilt sometimes makes people act wacky. Behaviour like Holmes's is the flinch of his conscience reverberating through his entire character.

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 5:57 AM

Good point, and I think he's using that to appear crazier.

Has there ever been an explanation for why he stopped shooting and left the theatre? Did he get bored? Run out of ammo (doubtful)? Turn into the Riddler?

Anonymous test July 28, 2012 7:35 AM

Has there ever been an explanation for why he stopped shooting and left the theatre?

There's no hard evidence he was even in the theater.

It's claimed he was under the care of Dr. Lynne Fenton, ex-US Air Force and a member of the campus-based 'behavioral assessment and threat assessment team.'

Anonymous Rantor July 28, 2012 7:35 AM

@ weak, supposedly his 100 round magazine jammed on his AR-15. Couldn't figure out how to unjam it I guess.

Well you see, this was all a plot by the Scarecrow who drugged him with his phobia toxin.

What about the fact the father, Robert Holmes, was said to have been scheduled to testify within the next few weeks before a US Senate panel on the Libor fraud.

Throws the cat amongst the pigeons? Daddy is about to assist in taking down the top echelon and all of a sudden his son goes bezerk....

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 8:28 AM

It is pretty funny to see the GOP apologists contort themselves to imagine Obama taking a strong anti-gun stance, when in fact, he had the political power to do so early in his term, and passed.

Meanwhile, the anointed GOP candidate actually banned so-called assault rifles while he was governor of Massachusetts.

Anonymous Anonymous July 28, 2012 8:52 AM

Indeed dh, that's why everyone who hates the neocons, including REaL conservatives/libertarians like me, is voting for Obama. Stop the neocons!!!

Finally some good news.

The more I learn about Holmes, the more I come to believe him a patsy.

Interesting... I've come to the point in my life that not only do I not believe anything the government and the state run media tells me, I now suspect the exact opposite.

Anonymous The other skeptic July 28, 2012 9:15 AM

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Perhaps the Dark Messiah is lost without TOTUS.

Anonymous The other skeptic July 28, 2012 9:39 AM

Is there a link to the claim that Holmes' father was to testify in the Libor scandal?

That seems like a more likely conspiracy to me. Either payback or blackmail (ie, stop testifying and we will make evidence available that your son was not involved.)

Since the Vampire Squid is so powerful the government will have to record the collateral damage as "Death by misadventure."

"Never believe anything until it has been officially denied."

To that, I guess we need to add:

"Never believe anything that has been officially confirmed."

Anonymous The other skeptic July 28, 2012 11:10 AM

To speculate on the Libor scandal connection some further.

Surely, the die is cast. Since any last-minute discovery that Holmes Jr was a patsy would give the game away, there is no going back.

Thus, Holmes Sr, if he is a thinking man, must know that he has to stick it to them.

Of course, observing the Media and the Establishment casting about for a credible explanation would be amusing.

Anonymous patrick kelly July 28, 2012 11:13 AM

As far as I can tell:

1) None of the witnesses to the shooting have identified Mr. Holmes as the shooter.

3) The police found weapons in a car trunk, and bombs at an apartment, but Mr. Holmes was not present or in possession of either at the time.

2) All the police witnessed that might be chargeable as a crime was impersonating a swat officer.

Unless something changes, if I'm on the jury, and the defense points these facts out to me, I have more than reasonable doubt. Painting your hair red and wearing police tactical gear in public may be gaudy, but it doesn't warrant prison or death.

Anonymous III July 28, 2012 11:23 AM

MKUltra was real. Anyone who believes that government meddling in mind games ceased are the delusional ones. DARPA and its NGO's have made great strides.

Of course, the police won't believe it either. They'll see whatever it is they want to see just to deny what they refuse to believe.

Horror shock does have its advantages. It is at that moment, while the horror is fresh in ones mind, as it is happening, to plant the seeds of dis-info.

Dial emergency 911 is the perfect example. Amazing what they "knew" and the information that was disseminated to the mesmerized horror shocked sheople as events unfolded in real time. And now we have true believers... who have believed a lie. And we have come far since that day. Many of the A, B, C, D's that you see today are direct offshoots of 911. And besides, they can't save you if there is not was not something to save you from.

Hell, you think the Beast will rise up out of legitimacy?

Nutty. Huh?

From the Wikipedia page on MKULTRA:

A considerable amount of credible circumstantial evidence suggests that Theodore Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, participated in CIA-sponsored MKUltra experiments conducted at Harvard University from the fall of 1959 through the spring of 1962.

From age 16, huh.

Anonymous III July 28, 2012 12:12 PM

There are many offshoots of MKUltra. And one does NOT have to be a student of Harvard to participate in experiments at Harvard. Duh!

Project Talent.

Anonymous Noah B. July 28, 2012 12:33 PM

I think a big part of the reason why much of what we're hearing about this case in the media doesn't make sense is because it is largely fabricated. And the media's drive to attract more readers and make more money, even if it means they put out a story that is largely fiction, explains most of this. One of the most striking inconsistencies is that Holmes would have had all these explosives in his apartment, including dozens of re-armed grenades, but not actually used any of them. I think we're likely to find out later that most of these were basically hoax devices and that the bomb squad working on his apartment was just being extremely cautious.

Anonymous Redjack July 28, 2012 12:54 PM

I susepct Holmes was the shooter, but I am wondering about some of the other things.

For instance, the investigation was sealed immediatly. That is odd. We knew Zimmerman's underware size two days after the shooting, and they are trying like heck to keep a lid on the Joker.

Well, that was because there were well connected and "diverse" folks trying to get free money from whitey.

Just read this on the internet about a recent billboard sign:

"Holmes kills 12 with rifle... the world freaks out.

Obama kills thousands with foreign policy... he wins Nobel Peace Prize."

Now that's funny.

koanic, why is police complicity and mind control so much more far fetched than the rare lone mastermind/fool?

[Non-psychic] programmatic mind control is well documented, and the only thing the police needed as incentive was a budget justification for new SWAT toys.

It could be a bit of both. They could have picked an unstable loner and subtly goaded him in the desired direction. Holmes would sincerely believe it was all his own idea.
And "they" might not be who you think.

I'm just so glad that our second amendment will now be unassailable - just like the first and fourth amendments - because there a treaty hasn't yet been signed. Thank heaven for the brave GOP, standing there like the Stonewall Inn. We now can be safely assured that Mittens will save us from those nasty UN gun-grabbers,

Anonymous Jack Amok July 28, 2012 4:58 PM

Don't those troublesome member states and NGOs realize that the White House can't override the Second Amendment without a solid international treaty to use as an excuse?

I assume nobody could come up with enough graft to wet the beaks of all the various parties. I mean, the most obvious thing would be to charge for permits, but that would imply granting them. Shuddder!!!!

Hey, maybe Robert's tax finding on Obamacare can save this! Make a treaty banning guns, and as part of the same treaty, require everyone to own a gun (so they can protect gaia from loggers or something) and make them pay a $500 "tax" if they don't. Voila! Ban something and tax people for going along with it. Sounds like something the UN and Obama could get behind.

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 6:15 PM

Getting local PD involved in this is risky. They may have friends or family at the shootings; they're just average grunts, not military elite psychos; other cops could get suspicious, or else you risk making the secret too big by involving too many. Plus they're right up next to the carnage which is a perfect recipe for a change of conscience. Sure you could have a PD conspiracy with the MLK shooting, but this is entirely different.

Mind control - really messy, not very effective, is my opinion. The human brain is squishy. High risk of backfire and detection.

Anonymous Godfrey July 28, 2012 6:22 PM

Mind control isn't far fetched. Good Lord, we live in society manipulated by the elites that abortion, sodomy and two income families are giant steps forward for mankind. This is proof positive that the majority of the people can be convinced of anything.

In weaker moments I almost envy the wealthy ruling classes. Their parties must be full of uprourious laughter when talking about the masses.

Anonymous Godfrey July 28, 2012 6:27 PM

Can anyone in the theater ID this guy as the actual shooter? Did anyone in the parking lot witness him returning to his vehicle after the shooting? Is there any footage, before, during or after? Did anyone witness the arrest?

Anonymous Koanic July 28, 2012 6:32 PM

If he's not being drugged in prison, maybe sharp withdrawal from psychiatric meds he was previously on explains his weird behavioral shift.

Anonymous Idle Spectator July 28, 2012 6:34 PM

No you see this plot was in Colorado, which is very cold.

Mr. Freeze was waiting for him outside in the getaway vehicle. That is what is behind the media rumors of the accomplice.

Anonymous Edward P. Lansdale July 28, 2012 7:11 PM

Gee, so this Aurora incident now has a connection to the LIBOR scandal? A "false flag" terror incident connection to financial theft and fraud. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm............

Where have we heard that probability before?

Could it be this?

The September 11th Cover-up of the Black Eagle Trust and Project Hammer

Now, if this is truly a tragic setback, then let's go ahead, and proceed full steam, and reverse Public Law 87-297 (State Department Publication 7277). When this is all done, and publicly announced, I will then be convinced. Not until then...

BTW, MK-ULTRA is an umbrella term. We are dealing specifically with -- MONARCH...

Is this really the same person?

That looks like someone went to great lengths to find someone with very similar facial features, but it just doesn't look like the same guy. Eye color different, skin around the eyes different, jawline, etc...

And I'm not a conspiracy theorist of the first order, but this whole thing stinks. Put that together with who his father was, and it gets weirder. From what I gather, he managed a triple tap on some of his victims. That's in the dark, with screaming people running every which way. Was there any evidence that James Holmes was doing serious gun training? He was apparently turned away from one gun club due to odd behavior.

funny you mention that; I had been putting off my next gun purchase but have been 'inspired' to push up it's purchase date... to the group; a mini-14 tactical or an AR-15? the old-school A-Team fan in me has me leaning towards the mini-14, but the practical side of me says the AR-15

Anonymous Shorty July 29, 2012 10:44 PM

A mid-level AR from Sig, S&W, or Rock River will be more accurate and more dependable than any Mini-14. However, depending on your current level of training, even a lower level DPMS will be more accurate than beginning shooters can shoot it. It is METT-TC specific, and considering the underlying reasoning of your post, your intended use and targets should be kept in mind.

Well, I would have to disagree. The AR uses a direct impingement system which requires more attention to maintenance, while the Mini-14 uses a piston system, and seems more reliable to me.

Of course, if you like a varmint caliber cartridge, then go for it.
