A teenager killed eight people with a knife and wounded five more in northeast China after falling out with his girlfriend, state media said Thursday.In other words, a guy with a SCARY ASSAULT RIFLE managed to kill all of four more people than a guy with a knife. So much for the gun control argument.

How do you know if wasn't a knife gun?
It just proves that the crazies and evil will kill with whatever is on hand. At the end of the story it tells of the increase of violence at schools. I'm sure they're "knife free zones". Had there been just 1 more law I'm sure this would have prevented.

This has happened in Japan, as well. Back in 2008 some guy in Tokyo managed to kill 7 and wound 10 in a mad-slash attack. In 2010, a less successful mad-slasher in Toride didn't manage to kill anyone, but he injured 13 in his rampage.
The guy with the assault rifle killed 12 wounded another 50+ people.

Obviously the assault rifle was more effective than the knife. There is a reason I use a gun to hunt and not a knife.

But see,knives are used for cutting - primarily meat based products. And since going Green™ means cutting out the carnivorous section of the population like the delicious fat on the ends of a juicy pork chop, Knife Control works on more than one level.
Besides, vegetables can be eaten raw, pulled out of the ground or off the stock with bare hands in the dead of night. Just ask any kolkhoznik.
I've known some guys that like to hunt hogs with knives. To them, it's just more fun than shooting them.

It would have been the perfect story if one of those he stabbed had been attempting to "rescue" her.
Pelosi and Reed have weighed in on this, and recommend banning of all knives in China, and a return to the more traditional chopsticks.

Assault weapons are not the weapons of choice among drug dealers, gang members or criminals in general. No one should have any illusions about what was accomplished (by the ban). Assault weapons play a part in only a small percentage of crime. The provision is mainly symbolic; its virtue will be if it turns out to be, as hoped, a stepping stone to broader gun control.

I once tried to buy a knife at a supermarket in Beijing. They handed me a sheet to fill out: Chinese had to give their name and identity card #.
I think it was a policy after a few high profile stabbings (and maybe around the time of sensitive government meetings), the government likes to make a show for people. But of course, you can buy knives all over the place, no ID required.

Very sad, prayers to the poor families...seriously if someone else was armed this could have been prevented or less lives would have been taken.
The correct answer is Arms Control. No arms, they can't hold lethal instruments. Of course there will be a few threats of going Black Knighting (a la MP's Holy Grail) and threats of kicking and perhaps biting, but very few knife and gun attacks.

If a trained pro ever loses it, without gun or knife, a whole town could be wiped, more so one where no weapons are allowed. I do chuckle when I read how dangerous guns and knives are. It takes less than 10 seconds, using one hand, to kill any human. I don't mean put down, or disable, I mean kill. There are other methods, like breaking the neck, which are technically faster, but that takes two hands and the right position, and is ungainly. Even a bullet to the head isn't a guaranteed kill, like what I discuss. Especially knowing tax money has produced some of the finest biomechanical killing machines the world has ever imagined. Boo!
