Can you spot the criminal?
Who needs judge and jury when they can simply hire me to look at people and distinguish the innocent from the guilty. Of course, I am a superintelligence:
Your score is 90%
The interesting thing, according to the paper that inspired the online quiz, is that women are actually worse at identifying rapists than pure chance would indicate. This tends to support the complaints of lower-rank men that most women are unable to distinguish between predatory wolves and protective guard dogs.

Ooooh 80%! Can I serve on a lower court?
70% - I haven't traveled extensively as Vox and I'm sure that helps.
Protective guard dogs. Like white knighting?
90% as well (the arsonist got me). I have to get my wife to take this quiz!
60%
60%. However, I was right in all the ones where my reaction was immediate, and wrong where I second-guessed myself.
I got 60%. I don't really know how to tell. Perhaps that is why I treat everyone I don't know like they are a criminal until proven otherwise.
I am not a real good judge of character on the first meeting.
And the FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU to the arsonist, because that was exactly my initial reaction - that he reminds me of the arsonists from L.A. Noire. But I thought it too far-fetched.
50%, but conviction status is not an adequate indicator of actual guilt or innocence. I didn't mistakenly identify any convicted criminals as innocent. I merely identified and included the criminals that had not been convicted.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
When you've got arsonists, rapists, assailants and drug dealers mixed together, and no profile shots, you have to go more by expression than facial bone structure. The two arsonists in particular look Neanderthal.
If it were "pick the mugger" it would be a different matter.
And , of course, this sample is indicative of the makeup of criminals based on race in society.
60% but there are several of them I would not trust - they are sure to become crinimals in the future.
While at the site I did take the famous artist / amateur artist test and scored a stunning 100%. So my visual acuity of beauty suggests that my prediction of future criminality may not be far off - especially if John Keats equation that beauty equals truth has any validity. :)
To me, just seemed to come down to the "deadness" of the eyes and, if there's doubt, the mouth (slight smile vs. flat line - flat line is typical mug shot look). I've seen thousands of mugshots, though (worked for Corrections), so I have some history looking at criminals.
Vox, how dare you judge all those precious snowflakes by their looks! Each one has their own special story, and we shouldn't have knee jerk reactions based solely on their faces.
I got 90% as well. Facial expressions and eyes give them away more than not.
Four 'Drug Dealers'.............hmmmmmmm.
If there were four cops or politicians instead it would have been more accurate.
70%
100%. I bet the arson guys are the ones who fiddle with the reads of other people, because I've got the advantage of being a pyromaniac and the ability to spot my kind...
60%
I got 60%. The criminals I didn't identify was the same story as Markku: I second guessed and got it wrong. Valuable lesson there if I ever have a daughter.
80% -

No politicians? Corzine looks like a crook to me.
100% went with my first gut reaction- no arsonist on my list.
They are all criminals. Some just haven't been caught yet. Drug users, dablers in black market goods. Piraters of intellectual property. Receivers of stolen property. It is not possible to keep all of the law, thus we are all deserving of the penalties.
I totally suck at that.
got an 80%. Wonder why they chose all white people.
kas
90%, I assumed the "Russian" chink eyed guy was a criminal, although I was apprehensive about it, because he's blonde.
The rest are easy: smokers lips? Criminal. Ears stick out too much? Criminal.
Jeez. Of my selection, I only toggled "not criminal" for 1 guy. All the rest looked criminal to me.
My score? 30%
Hey, where'd my tail go? Oh, yeah. There it is tucked between my legs.
80%.
Fascinating.
It is most certainly the eyes.

"Jeez. Of my selection, I only toggled "not criminal" for 1 guy. All the rest looked criminal to me.
My score? 30%"
If you're gonna be wrong, that's at least the right side to er on.
I did it twice (reloaded to get different pics). First result: 60% Second result: 90%
I picked out the rapist. Well that's reassuring!
Pollock or Birds? 100%
Artist or Ape? 100%
2nd time with the criminals? 80%
Damn.
I have a suspicion that women are biologically, psychologically, and in all other ways predisposed to being sexually active whether they know it, like it, or think they want it. They can always claim, honestly or not, that they had no choice, if they bother to complain. As well, it adds to the whole victim-hood idea they seem to have had in very early times and on through up to now. It's why women used to be kept under lock and key, more often by elder womenfolk, but by fathers and brothers too. They can't be trusted even IF they are on the right page about things. It's just the way it is.
70%. I'm curious to see who has low scores and if they have previously shown aspie behavior in past posts.
I second-guessed myself and changed my answers, but should have had an 80% had I not changed 2 answers. As it was, I scored 60%. I also went straight contrarian on one older guy even though he looked innocent. Turns out he was. Hmmm. Always go with your gut. I'd have had a 90%. :-)
Even without Vox's superintelligence I managed 70%. (The two "non-criminals" I selected as criminals are both armed robbers, so I really got 90%.)
;)
60% but some of them like the "Drug Dealer" I would not consider a 'criminal'.
Only %40 but I couldn't care less. White people don't scare me.
I expected a catch, checked "criminal" for everyone that looked honest and vice versa. The result was 30%.
70%
60% but I would not consider a drug dealer a 'criminal' necessarily unless they violated someone else's rights or used fraud.
OT: ECB announcement and the Germans. Any predictions?
70%
OT: From the Einstein vs Hitler quiz on the same site:
We men are deplorable, dependent creatures. But compared with these women, every one of us is king, for he stands more or less on his own two feet, not constantly waiting for something outside of himself to cling to. They, however, always wait for someone to come along who will use them as he sees fit. If this does not happen, they simply fall to pieces.
Reloaded a few time to see all combinations and the only rational conclusion is that the quiz was created by a misandristic black dyke with leukophobia.

The first time I took the quiz, my browser was set to not show pictures. I just answered randomly. Got 40% right.
Then I looked at the pictures. 50% right. I have no skill.
@Good Will
More likely... you look for the best in people.
Yikes, 40%. I correctly identified the rapists and the assailant, but I missed the drug dealers. I also incorrectly identified two non-criminals as criminals.
"60%. However, I was right in all the ones where my reaction was immediate, and wrong where I second-guessed myself."
Same on all the above.
50%. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I look for body position for my clues. Only rarely can I tell by just their face.
After taking the test four times, I got 100%!
Eep, 40%. I picked one non criminal as a criminal and missed the arsonists and drug dealer.
70%. I missed the rapist and thought two were criminals that weren't. Or, maybe they are criminals and just haven't been caught yet!
70%. I missed the rapist and thought two were criminals that weren't. Or, maybe they are criminals and just haven't been caught yet!
How the hell do you miss the rapist??? He practically has RAPIST tattoo'd on his forehead!
80%, and the two I missed were as others have said, where I was right but second-guessed myself. Fascinating, I didn't realize this kind of discernment was potentially this accurate. I should start using it more in making judgment calls when more info is unavailable...

60% but I would not consider a drug dealer a 'criminal' necessarily unless they violated someone else's rights or used fraud.
Yeah, he was pushing oregano as pot. (With apologies to the author of "A Few Good Men".)
Kashmir I wonder why they chose all white people?
As an avid viewer of procedural crime dramas and one who never reads the local paper, Drudge, or watches local news....
IT'S BECAUSE THE VAST MAJORITY OF CRIMINALS ARE WHITE! DUH!
60%, guessing the whole time. The only one I was pretty sure about turned out to be wrong.
So it went pretty much how I expected, given my high AQ.
I'd love to compare this type of identification with IQ and AQ.
Kashmir=kas.
I. Hate. Spellcheck.
Furthermore, I'd love to break down the number of false negatives and false positives along AQ and IQ.
Too bad I'm a prole.
100%...Are they hiring not-so-superintelligences?
They changed the images when I went back to look. Different people. And I repeated my score of 80%.
Curious. The test is more dynamic than I first assumed.
90%. Just picked the ones that looked like mugshots.
90%
They really need to remake the quiz with more than just the headshots. Body language is also important.
Furthermore, I'd love to break down the number of false negatives and false positives along AQ and IQ.
And are you sure the middle-aged guy with the mustache is a non-criminal? I picked criminal and missed it. He looks pedo-rific to me. Maybe he just has not been caught.
I assumed the "Russian" chink eyed guy was a criminal, although I was apprehensive about it, because he's blonde.
He's inbred looking, but also too gentle.
Oooo, took it again. 100%
I keep getting the drug dealers right. Heh heh heh...
90%.
Ok I took it a third time, to see if the previous score was a fluke. The faces keep changing.
100% again.
This time the arsonists were beside each other in the list. I don't know how you people could miss the them. The eyes on those faces are downright scary. "Oooh fire!"
70%. It's in the eyes.
70%. Like Markku, if I hadn't second guessed my self on a couple I would have done better.
70%. One could argue that the drug dealer is an unfettered free market entrepreneur, the arsonist is a misunderstood artist (and who doesn't appreciate a good fire?), and that non-criminal, well, he just hasn't been caught yet....
The face gives away a lot, especially the eyes, like LL said.
60-70%. I guess I should have been a cop - they pretty much all look like criminals to me.
50%....but they all looked a bit crooked to me....does that mean I can have a job with the local PD?
I'd be willing to bet everyone here would get 90%+ if you were shown their clothes... street thugs pretty much broadcast that they are street thugs by their clothes - no need to get close enough to see their eyes!
Average 50%, no better than random.
I'd better stay inside, it seems.
A quick anecdote. I once managed to amble through an ambush. It was only as I was driving away that the cumulative inconsistencies came crashing down on me, "Wait a minute, those weren't cops!"
Nice how the test I took only had 2 non-criminals, when randomly it should be 50%, or if properly distributed by population, 10%
I'd be willing to bet everyone here would get 90%+ if you were shown their clothes... street thugs pretty much broadcast that they are street thugs by their clothes
But you see you run into a problem when it comes to pedophiles and arsonists. They don't announce themselves like that. That man with the mustache I talked about could easily be a theater director or middle-aged anthropology major.
100%. As snowdog said, mugshot or not?
It's all in the photo quality (mostly lighting) to determine whether or not it is fake. Flatter, more drained images are mugshots. Some other tells, too.
I scored 70%.
Think you need to be able to see the movement, hear the words etc.
My first thought was that your 90% was pure luck, that there was no way you could look at these photos and pick out the baddies. But it turned out to be surprisingly easy. I only missed on the arsonist.
Only 50%! I better start hanging out with a better class of folk. Or should that be a worse class?
40% - but I must confess that I just chose randomly, so you could interpret my score as 0 if you wish. I can't tell by looking at somebody's picture if they are a bad guy. That is why I need a protector.
They are easier to spot the worse on the criminality scale they are. A couple of the "not a criminal" are border line/potential criminals that my extra sensory pre-crime ability spotted. It's better just to assume they're all criminals.
I got 90%. The only one I got wrong was an arsonist that I changed my mind on.
I got 80%. Missed the arsonist and one idenitifed only as a crminal.
70%
50%
40% (1st time) 50% (2nd time) 90% (third time, repeats though) they all look like criminals to me. Or at least weirdos I don't want near me. The fact that I got the rapists wrong scares me. Maybe it is easier to distinguish in person but I'll conceal carry just to be on the safe side.
60' and the Mrs also got a 60. But I got a 92 on the famous artist quiz, so if you. need to determine the authenticity of art work, I may be able to help.
First time I got 40%, but I second guessed myself some. Second time, 50%. Third time, 90%. What this proves: I am lousy at this test, and this is a lousy test.
Oops - mixed my name with part of my email; sorry; it's just me.
60% I missed all the arsonists.
80%
How many with low scores will comment here?
Probably better to run it 5 times and post whether you were consistent.
60%, but that's under protest. That one old guy looked like a kiddie diddler no matter what the test said.
My wife scored 50%. She answered criminal on all but one.
I'm happy with her answers. To be wary of everyone is good policy.
# Godfrey
For me they were all criminals too. I tend to distrust everyone I don't know.
Probably anyone that lives in a city has learned this basic survival concept.

70% (missed the arsonists), and I've tested high normal/borderline aspie.

Took it and got 100%. Took it again and got 100%.
80%. Got the rapist wrong. Now I'm going to try again and go purely with my immediate gut reaction. Let's see if I do better or worse than the first test where I thought about it for a few seconds before answering.
Damn, I got 50% going quickly with my gut as compared to 80% where I deliberated for a few secs.
One wrong answer was a face from the previous test where I couldn't remember if he was a criminal or not. I clicked not a criminal because he had an innocent looking baby face. Turns out he's an arsonist.
Would be interesting to do this with female faces.
70%. Like others, the ones I missed were when I second guessed.
As for women being so terrible at picking rapists that's easily explainable: Women base a man's values on the tingle's he gives her. Creepy omega who makes her clam shrivel up is obviously a rapist but the bad boy is obviously innocent.
70% here.
80% the second time. And I thought about each one less.
50%, 60%, 70%, 80%. I'm a slow learner, also I got bored after 4 tries.

As a rule of thumb, always assume that the uglier they are, the greater are the chances of being a criminal. In average, people in jail are less good looking than the general population.
"Would be interesting to do this with female faces." -FREEDOM LOVER! Om Shanti Om
It would present a bit more of a potential challenge since I've actually seen* women caught in the act of committing a crime deny it with the conviction and anger of someone falsely accused.
(* In case anyone is curious, I've witnessed two cases of shoplifting, a nearly successful auto theft, and three incidents of child abuse in public.)
40%, 60%, 50%
Most of my troubles came from either thinking too much about it or falsely expecting a person to be criminal.
I find it hard to judge headshots without being able to see body language and clothing. I would have avoided almost all of these people in a public environment if possible. Lower class whites do not have enough positive traits to encourage me to have any association with them.

And yet you only got 50% using that rule of thumb.
"Would be interesting to do this with female faces."
I think they tried that. Unfortunately, the "not guilty" button was worn out to the point of inoperable.
Your score is 100%
I went by immediate first reaction and got 80%
