The important questions

I think they are not being sufficiently addressed by America's foremost philosophers, by whom I of course mean the ladies of The View:
The ladies on The View are never short of opinions and they quickly weighed in on the Chris Brown Twitter argument with comedy writer Jenny Johnson.  Elisabeth Hasselbeck went as far as to call Chris Brown's words verbal rape as she lambasted the singer after he shut down his social network account.  Speaking on The View, Elisabeth, 35, said: 'I think it's disgusting, first of all. But also, it seems like verbal rape to me.'
This is, you understand, the most vital intellectual discourse currently taking place on the American scene.  And yet, our vaunted philosophers failed to consider the most important question raised by the subject, which is whether or not abortion should be legally permitted in the event of a verbal rape resulting in pregnancy.

Perhaps Dr. John Scalzi, our resident expert on matters of rape and abortion, would be so kind as to render his expert opinion on the subject.

Being forced to watch The View is visual and auditory rape.

Can I have my gubmint check now?

Anonymous Josh November 27, 2012 4:15 PM

Vox is a victim of repeated verbal gang rape from atheists, leftists, and feminists.

He's a strong and brave survivor of verbal rape and deserves for his story to be memorialized in a lifetime movie.

If a verbal rape occurs in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it really happen?

Anonymous TLM November 27, 2012 4:25 PM

Waiting in the dentist's office yesterday I saw this. The other woman in the room watching it agreed with me when I made a snide comment concerning these stupid yentas. Maybe hope for all women isn't lost as her disapproval of The View surprised me.

Anonymous Porky? November 27, 2012 4:44 PM

That girl's words were just hanging out there for everyone to see. Her thoughts were practically naked as she tweeted her dirty words for all the world to stare at. She was asking for it.

"whether or not abortion should be legally permitted in the event of a verbal rape resulting in pregnancy"

From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate verbal rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

Blogger tz November 27, 2012 5:06 PM

The legacy TV networks are not merely a wasteland, they are a toxic wasteland.

If you ignore the hypnotic background (See the Angel episode where he is turned into a puppet - physical, not mental), you will conclude Women's suffrage is intrinsically evil.

Note I make that argument against Rothbardians. Regarding Abortion, women are either too stupid to know where babies come from or are somehow unable to act on the knowledge in a distemper rendering them insane (the legal definition, as opposed to psychotic, the medical definition, both often apply). In either case they are not competent enough to vote.

If either do not apply, then Abortion can safely be made illegal as women have both the intellect and will to avoid actions which would result in pregnancy.

Is it the mouth, tongue, or the words?

Can we have nounal or adjectival or even prepositional rape?

Blogger vandelay November 27, 2012 5:24 PM

Dear lord, and she's supposed to be the conservative one.
However, I do love how Chris Brown is able to literally drive women crazy with rage (or with feelings they won't admit to) by doing nothing more than posting innocuous messages on Twitter.

Anonymous Idle Spectator, Hero Feminist November 27, 2012 5:29 PM

And yet, our vaunted philosophers failed to consider the most important question raised by the subject, which is whether or not abortion should be legally permitted in the event of a verbal rape resulting in pregnancy.

And you scoffed at me Vox, when I suggested that Fourth-Wave Feminism would include men sexing up women just by looking at them, metaphorically even without actual sex occuring. Like some sort of physical law of spooky sex interaction at a distance.

You scoffed. Now the healing may begin.

Anonymous Otherwise Silent Observer November 27, 2012 5:30 PM

No surprise that the well fed ladies of The View would weigh in on such a matter.

They want to bone him. But they can't without loss of face, so they transmute that emotion into rage. I've seen it all the time with women I've interacted with. "What's her problem?" Then the lightbulb goes on. "Oh, that's why..."

Death to false metal and false rape.

Anonymous 15er November 27, 2012 5:56 PM

Classic feminist double standard - Jenny Johnson goes after Brown publicly and he retaliates. Nothing gets said about the former but the latter is "verbal rape."

Reminds me of some dolt woman explaining why I shouldnt use "cunt" but it was perfectly fine for her to call people "dicks". I don't remember the reasoning per se other than it had something to do with woman now having a special status because they are oppressed. The female equivalent of the whole n-word stuff.

The latter is where women of both intellect and holiness sought refuge.

Get thee to a nunnery.

Oh my God, I was pouring over Fred Reed's latest "column." More like a ophthalmology documentary on the Discovery Channel. So much medicine to pour over, I couldn't stop, I was like George Bush at a Jim Beam factory. But I can quit any time I want too.

"However in my experience it has been less than 1:1000. Risk factors are hypertension, glaucoma, previous ocular surgery, old age, coughing or straining during surgery under local anaesthetic, choroidal haemorrhage in the other eye."

Fred had three risk factors for the choroidal hemorrhage. Hello! Why is this doctor so stupid? He even said during the procedure "I've never seen this before." That means you stop, and you check the eye with a fundoscope, or a phoropter, or something else besides a slit lamp, Dr. Dickweed.

"With the slit lamp, however, direct observation of the fundus is impossible due to the refractive power of the ocular media. In other words: the far point of the eye (punctum remotum) is so distant in front of (myopia) or behind (hyperopia) that the microscope cannot be focused." Right again, Dr. Idle. You can't see the choroid that well with a slit lamp, which is in the back near the retina. The slit lamp is mainly used for the anterior of the eye, with the cornea.

I hate lawyers, but after reading that... Sue him Fred! Sue Dr. Stanley over and over again!

I was verbally raped in 1981 by an English teacher (I would say professor, but can't give her the respect) who called me to her private office. I still have scars from the tongue lashing calling me a dullard. I wonder if she replaced that stapler or fixed the hole in the wall. I have no recourse now unless she lived to be 115. I figure the statute of limitations is over now any way.

All I did was write a paper on killing a certain protected bird in Texas for pecking my tomatoes.

Anonymous millenial zen0 November 27, 2012 10:11 PM

Dudes. Your generation is so out of touch. I don't know why the younger generations let you live. You are just taking up space, now.

Its an idiom.:

verbal rape http://www.dictionaryabc.com/verbal-rape
The act of being talked to when u do not want to talk to that person/ being forced to talk to someone who wants to talk to u
Caroline: graeme is verbal raping christina
Sarah: what a rapist, why is he always talking to her
Caroline: she has to go through alot of verbal rape from him
Also referred to as the "stop and chat," this expression, while crude, accurately describes the act of stopping someone in the street or workplace for an non-consensual conversation.
These awkward conversations leave the verbal rape victim feeling uncomfortable and violated.
"Why can't I ever walk past the boss without him verbally raping my a*s?"
or
"The term 'verbal rape' underrates the trauma that real rape victims go through."
see face rape

verbally raping someone with vulgar words
and then he totally verbal raped me

You are smart guy, I did, knew who she was and wrote the paper. I never actually killed a mocking bird as my grandmother taught me, put red Christmas balls on the tomato plants and they will peck them and find it is not food, and yes I did it out of meanness because she just grated on me and I dropped the class and got my money back, which back then was about 30 dollars a semester hour as I remember. I used to spend about 700 dollars a semester in a 17 hour regiment for classes and books (Used ones).

Hey good gardening tip.

I grew up in a farming family, but I remember Professor Acker at NTSU. On the first page of the used book and still have it it "Fuck you Acker" I made sure he didn't see it. He was one of the best English teachers I ever had. His voice would echo the past in a noble deep exhortation. As he read Shakespeare or others I was enthralled. He gave me a 50 or 60 grade on everything I wrote. I asked him one time in Private why he was failing me? He said you will not fail my class, he kept his word. And I was off to physics and math.

She ignored my pleas to stop.

Depends on the type of surgery. Simple ones are like repairing cataracts. Complex ones are things like corneal transplants and exenteration of the eye socket. If you're feeling blue enough, you should just commit bilateral auto-enucleation (oedipism), or plucking out both your eyes like some schizophrenia patients do after they see Jesus. Think happy thoughts!

Blogger Justthisguy November 28, 2012 11:41 PM

Say, Outlaw? First, I can't believe that a mockingbird is a protected bird. They are our State Bird here in Flarduh, and also in no need of protection, despite their small size and general scrawniness. I have seen mockingbirds chasing and harassing crows, hawks, and maybe even eagles. They are skeerd 'o nuthin. I have had them dive at my face. I think they build their nests low to the ground just to dare the Kittehs and Raccoons to come after their kids.

My Dear Dead Kitteh was an easygoing guy after he retired, but there was a mockingbird which was just too entirely annoying for him, back in '07. The bird built a nest by the back porch, barely 7' off of the ground, and made passes at teh Kitteh every time he went out. Finally, the Kitteh had enough, and killed that mockingbird for mocking him. I found some of the feathers and one of the feet.

Blogger Justthisguy November 28, 2012 11:56 PM

P.s. I have known some mockingbirds who were very talented singers.
