Preach it, brother Karl
Karl thunders from the metaphorical pulpit about the shameless hypocrisy of the anti-gun elite:
If you believe that you have a right to life because your creator endowed you with that right, and that this right is unalienable and thus cannot be taken from you (although it can certainly be disrespected!) then it follows that you have not only the right but the responsibility to defend your life. That is, you have the right and the responsibility to deter to the best of your ability any other person who would take your life from you. That is true. That is truth. As I said in my column last week, if you do not stand up for the right of the American to keep and bear arms, you are not an American. You are not an adult. If it weren't for the genetics involved, you cannot even be considered Homo sapiens sapiens, because you are admittedly and consciously rejecting your God-given and unalienable rights as a human being.
You may choose to delegate this responsibility to others, as Mayor Bloomberg and President Obama have, but your right to life is not inferior to theirs. It is equal. President Obama has no more right to live than you do. You are his equal from the standpoint of what your creator, and his creator, endowed both of you with. So we have established that you have the right to live, as does the President. And if the President has the right to defend his life with deadly force, and indeed the responsibility to do so, then, should it be necessary, so do you.
This debate should end right there. Up until all of these people in political office disband their police forces, their Secret Service details, throw down their own arms, armored cars, body armor and other defensive means of interdicting assault they have nothing -- not even a moral argument -- behind them in their demand that you disarm and become an intentional victim -- no matter who you are.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 223 of 223And if there is such a problem with guns or ammo why was there a huge DHS purchase of ammo over the summer?
Only white people died, who cares?
Jesus' admonition to Peter to put away his sword needs to be viewed in the context of his unambiguous statement that his Kingdom was not of this world. I mean, let's ask the government to disarm while we're at it.
Put away your sword, Peter
- Log
Log's an idiot.
Luke 22:35-36
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
Something I didn't know (and haven't had time to check)
Despite its much stricter gun control, Europe has been the scene of more mass school killings than the United States. -- Spengler, at Asia Times
Using Wikipedia (which of course is beyond reproach, groan), I count 67 mass murder sprees in the US since 1980 (not counting incidents at military bases involving soliders), and 70 in Europe during that same time (again, not counting those involving soliders on base).
The total population of Europe is slightly larger than the US, so the per-captia mayhem seems to be roughly the same.
Now, when you consider that the US has far more mentally disturbed people free on the streets, it's astonishing there haven't been more incidents in the US.
For completeness sake, Wikipedia uses this definition:
To be included in this list at least one of the following must apply:
-Incidents with six or more dead (excluding the perpetrator)
-Incidents with a double digit number of victims (dead plus injured)
-Mass murders by intention with at least a dozen victims (dead plus injured)
FrankBrady
You're right, there's no arguing with these people. Fundamentally, I think they are moral cowards who lack the courage to defend themselves or their families, and seeing other's who have that courage makes them feel inadequate, rotten, pathetic. So they want to prohibit bravery.
On top of that, they also lack the courage to take the necessary social steps - such as passing judgement on dangerously unstable people - to mitigate these incidents (I don't think you can stop all of them, but it does seem that a significant percentage of these murderers have a pretty clear trail of violent mental problems that should have placed them somewhere away from the rest of society). But doing nothing is unacceptable to their egos, so they lash out at the guns - inanimate objects who's feelings can't be hurt. It's a classic example of displacement or compenstation, or whatever fancypants headshrink term you want to apply to the human ability to distract oneself from the shame of failure by focusing on something irrelevant but achievable.
Oh, and regarding Vox's point about ethnic makeup and murder rates, that's true, but as the White Ligthning post over at Belmont Club pointed out, when it's a mass murder spree like this latest one, it's usually a white guy. Vibrant ethnics kill in dribs and drabs, and quite frequently. But it usually takes a white guy to kill by the bushell f**king basekt full (to quote my Uncle quoting Gen G.S. Patton).

The better planning skilled people were unarmed. If I were there, he would have died immediately. Your uncle was an idiot.

You make no sense. And you're an ass.
You make no sense. And you're an ass.
You never met a real Texan, have you? You think only your kin went to WWII?
Vox, you are not in a position to tell us who is a good American.
You ran away to Europe.
You abandoned the fight.
You should return and stand your ground. Your country calls.
(to quote my Uncle quoting Gen G.S. Patton).
My Great uncle who served under Patton quoted Patton " Give me 200,000 boys from Texas and Oklahoma and I will kick the worlds ass."
If the atheists take over, your rights will be trashed.
"You should return and stand your ground. Your country calls."
Ha! he has worse problems there. He is a brave man to stay in Italy right now. Maybe he could care less about you. The America centric fable is broken, it is only the spirit that lives. And they will fuck the NWO over. It ain't just America any more. There is no new frontier and no place to hide. Put a gun to your head, NOW!
> We're more important.
Wrt to the employee/employer dynamic, yes. Wrt self defense, no.
> There's no question that pretty much every President starting with FDR would have notched assassination attempts and that is why we render them a greater proportion of protection than that of the average citizen.
We render. And we can choose to stop rendering. No one is forced to run for President.
> ...and makes you and easy target for leftists.
As if that made any difference.

With the left, there is the Dar AlYasar (Left) and the Dar AlHarb. Nothing else.
"Yes, the president is protected by an armed force, but then again, he's the fricking President of the United States!"
Huh. Argument by acclamation. That's a new one. (Well actually it isn't, but TGM is such a silly creature he won't know the difference.)
"Every loon or motivated assassin in the world would love to bag them a president. To compare him to ordinary citizens is a false equivalence."
Every full-grown male negro would love to rape a white woman. Statistics bear this out. Last year alone, more than 30,000 white women were raped by full-grown male negroes. How many presidents were shot in the same time period?
Clearly, we must have tighter restrictions and controls on full-grown male negroes. We could, for instance, place them in Negro Storage Centers, where their violent and feral movements will be tightly limited and restricted. And in this way, far fewer white women will be raped. Plus, we will no longer have to endure the noxious presence of feral, violent, stupid, ineducable full-grown male negroes. Win/win.
Objections to severely increased restrictions and control of negroes? What are they? Please explain in detail.
Tad may be a bit "tardy" on this blog. We pulled him over in his Miata and investigated him.
It should be noted that while most mass shootings are committed by whites, it's on a rate that is only slightly higher than the ratio of white Americans to minority Americans.
So the "Mass shootings as frustrated white privelige" narrative needs to be attacked at every turn. Whether from Slate or Jizzabel.

Not sure what good it will do; the drums for gun control are beating loudly. I am hearing next to nothing from the right to bear arms side - I haven't tuned into the NRA press conference yet but am hoping for good things.
Yes I am ignoring the fact that they've been a bit limp-wristed of late. I did use the word "hoping".
NRA just concluded their press conference. Bottom line: "Arm the schools"
Note however they did not commit that the teachers and staff themselves be trained and armed (which would be the most logical and least costly way to go) but suggested an armed guard (police?) for every school - which would cost billions$$$
"Code Pink: Women for Peace is an anti-war group that is mainly composed of women." - Lots of press for the anti gun feminists today in the coverage for the NRA press conference.
Dead thread, don't know if anyone will see this.
In following our responsibility to defend our lives, we really should have access to the best possible tools in order to defend our lives most ably.
Therefore I think people should have access to Nerve Agents too. Sometimes, a gun just won't be effective.

There are thousands of dead Kurds that agree. Would Saddam have used them if there was a possibility of reciprocation in kind? The world will never know as all the parties that could answer are dead.
