Obviously, it's the guns
What other explanation could there be?
A new report finds that Americans die younger and contract sexually transmitted diseases more than any other high-income country in the world. The report found that Americans had higher rates of chronic lung disease, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, obesity, drug-related deaths, infant mortality and homicides than countries that included Australia, Canada, Japan and many western European countries. It's really terrible how all of those legal guns are having indiscriminate sex and forcing Americans to gorge themselves with pizza and mainline heroin. #GunControlNow!

What is the reason for this? Multicultural vibrancy?

I'm been sparring with Obsisian about gun-control on his blog, to limited effect because I've been following the gun-control debate for years, but am much less experienced at arguing on blogs. But I thought it was hilarious when he responded to another commentator on his Jan. 6th blog post, and somehow forgot the character he was playing (someone who thinks we should only be discussing shooting deaths committed by "white boys" with "military-style" rifles and "high-capacity clips") and he asks the commentator "Are you OK with 500 dead in Chitown, more than 400 dead in Philly, et al, or not?" I called him out on it, since he's been lambasting Vox and others for talking about these urban gun homicide statistics, but unfortunately my comment got blocked by a spam filter again and he hasn't gotton around to releasing it yet :)
I think this is a great example of the dishonest arguments that most "progressives" use- that they "only" want ban a specific type of gun or restrict a particular freedom in response to a specific situation...as they incrementally work towards their ultimate goal of total control over things and people that they feel insecure about.
Along these lines, my 3 1/2 year old son just figured out all by himself how to actuate his great gradfather's Model 70.
I suppose I will come home soon and catch him with some hookers and blow.
They grow up so fast, don't they?
So in conclusion, a country that is around 65% non-hispanic whites lags in pretty much every metric of a civilized culture than countries that hover in the 80-90% range.
Color me gobsmacked.
Can we enquire about the race of those who die young and have copious STDs?
They do, Noah B, they sure do. My wife snapped a picture of him using my AP brush to clean his orange plastic six shooter.
Doorstop: "I think this is a great example of the dishonest arguments that most "progressives" use- that they "only" want ban a specific type of gun or restrict a particular freedom in response to a specific situation...as they incrementally work towards their ultimate goal..."
To be fair, I don't think most prole progressives like Obsidian are forward thinking or smart enough to make the connection between cause and effect in this respect; the historical record for totalitarian regimes and gun control, etc.
It's amusing that he's bringing up urban violence statistics - not the least of which favor heavily towards his own racial demographic perpetuating the gun homicide rates - since what he seems to be advocating is a nationwide plan of federal intervention on behalf of those who are inner city victims. So on the one hand, we need federal laws regulating and punishing all gun owners nationwide for what a select portion of the population does in (for what most Americans view as) distant urban enclaves; yet Obsidian himself shrugs off every instance of mentioning Paki or Afghani children being killed by predator drone strikes - performed at the direct behest of that very same federal government.
You might want to ask him why he has such disregard for one clans' children being killed by federal agencies, and yet desires as much federal intervention for his own select clan; or why any of the rest of us should - by his own metric - care about what the government does to a people such as his own that far removed from us, both geographically and culturally.
Silly gun control question. I'm not from the US but I've become convinced by your self defense arguments.
Is it easier to buy a gun at a gun fare even if the buyer is mentally ill person (e.g. known to have a psychiatric illness) or an ex-con, then say at a proper brick and mortar dealership? Is there a discrepancy between dealerships and fares in the same state? If I was a known psych patient and I would not be able to buy a weapon at a dealership would a fare dealer in the same state sell me one? Would he need to run some background check? If easier, why? Pardon if this is a stupid question, hehe. Thanks!
... Americans had higher rates of chronic lung disease, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, obesity, drug-related deaths, infant mortality and homicides than countries that included Australia, Canada, Japan and many western European countries.
No, not Americans, but all those anti-American Africans and anti-American Mexicans presently residing inside the country. Quit counting them and the numbers will plummet.
Except for maybe obesity. White American females take the world cup in that category.
@ Bear,
A "dealer" is a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). Anyone who purchases a firearm from a FFL has to be checked. Private sales (non-FFL to non-FFL) don't require a background check mostly because a non-FFL can't get legal access to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
useful questions, Bear. every licensed firearms dealer has to conduct an online check of the buyer's name with a national FBI database. this mostly lists criminal convictions, rarely any mental health actions. some states link databases of those with severe mental health issues into the online check. a licensed dealeer must always do the background check, both at their physical store and at gun shows. I have been to many gun shows, and I would guess that 98% or more of guns for sale are from licensed dealers. thus at the gun show, the buyer has to do the same background check.
a private individual is not required to do a background check, indeed, they are prohibited from using the online FBI data base even if they wanted to.
licensed dealers keep the paper original of the Federal form which the buyer fills out. the online background check, under the law, cannot be preserved as a record. the paper record stays with the dealer until they go out of business. when they are transferred to the govt.
the strong opposition of 2A activists to having records kept of private sales is that it would be a big step to an overall database of guns owned. this would be a key precondition of confiscation, which I think could well lead to a civil war.

--- Wow, Molon....that's food for thought. Sure would be a thumb up the ass of the "Feminist Matrix", too. As long as you don't go "Wahabbi Islam", ...sounds GOOD. Most tenants of Islam (not radicalized Wahabbi) sound pretty damn good to this Angry White Male Westerner....who's been living in the Feminized USSA for 20 years now. Definitely food for thought.
Bob said: Except for maybe obesity. White American females take the world cup in that category.
--- Quite true, Good Sir...though non-white hispanic females and african females in this country are quickly catching up to them, IMHO.
So, what is the deal with private sales in the peoples republic of CA?

Good point...I remember reading in some news article that even after the U.S. military invaded Iraq and were fighting insurgents there, they allowed Iraqi households to each possess an AK-47 for self-defense. I don't think they were allowed to carry them on the street, or possess handguns at all, but it's pretty ironic when you think about it. Plus there's the very obvious irony of the current administration's sympathy (in Syria) or outright support (Libya) of armed Islamic insurgencies trying to violently overthrow their governments with small arms.
Let's ban armor-piercing, hollow-point, plastic guns
"So, what is the deal with private sales in the peoples republic of CA?"
(3) The firearm is a curio or relic manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date but is not a replica, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations, or its successor.

Everything else has to go through FFL channels for lawfully-inclined citizens.
These NFL refs suck.
@the other skeptic: In CA every gun has to be sold through a dealer (except firearms older than 50 years).
Also Ben Shapiro does a bit better than Alex Jones in the PR dept. for gun advocacy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJdhAm_oUUs

Buy and shut up.
No chance of adjusting the study for race?
Australia, Canada, Japan and many western European countries
How many blacks do those places have? I suspect that our rulers know that blacks have lower life expectancy on average than other groups and are dishonestly omitting that fact in order to blame our freedoms.
Amazing how quiet the republicans have been on this issue, I suspect they are getting ready to flush the ret of their mindless constituents down the toilet.
This has been true for decades. Nothing new about these problems and our relative ranking among the civilized nations. I detect the distinct odor of FREEDOM. Besides, if you wash out the black and hispanic proportions of these negatives, you will find we look pretty good actually.

The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Blackgate Prison Speech (FULL HD 1080p)
He reminds me of Vladimir Lenin giving a speech up on his podium before the Russian Revolution.
"Step forward those who would serve. For an army with be raised. The powerful will be ripped from their decadent nests. And cast out into the cold world that we know and endure. Courts will be convened. Spoils will be enjoyed. Blood will be shed. The police will survive, as they learn to serve true justice. This great city, it will endure. Gotham will survive." - Bane
Storming Blackgate Prison is like storming the Bastille in Paris, a key event in the beginning of the French Revolution.
"During the reign of Louis XVI, France faced a major economic crisis, partially initiated by the cost of intervening in the American Revolution, and exacerbated by a regressive system of taxation."
Does that sound familar or what?

A) "It's not what they really want, it's just what happens when they get their way. Liberals are, by their political nature, weak, and so when left-wing revolutions etc. do occur they are immediately hijacked by the strong, who seize absolute power. eg. Cuba hijacked by Castro, French Revolution hijacked by Robespierre and Marat, English Civil War hijacked by Cromwell, Gotham Revolution hijacked by Talia/Bane :)"
B) "Indeed!
Nolan insists he didn't intend for the Batman films to be political, but...it's almost as if Nolan's a Conservative, and doesn't even know it!
Bane equating "the rich" with "the corrupt"--encouraging rising up against said rich...
Bane mocking American society's "myths of opportunity"...
And of course, Catwoman realizing her drems of equality lead in the end only to destruction...."
They GET it.

No. Those are the useless slobs who voted for Obamacare.

Fortunately, my local gun show today sold out all of its ammo and magazine "repair kits" within 3 hours of opening.
When the local police have given up...
when the feds are nowhere to be found...
the militia steps up!
And you know some poor bastard at the AP is going to get fired for slipping up and telling the truth.
Re: Dark Night Rises.
Finally got around to seeing it recently and I have to say, it sucked more than the one before it. 'Batman Begins' was the only decent film in the trilogy. I almost shut DNR off after that ridiculous opening scene where Banes men repel from one moving airplane onto another and perform a blood transfusion from the towed plane. Glad I didn't turn it off though; because the film quickly turned into a comedy and made for good laughs. The idea that Nolan is somehow a conservative is laughable when one sees how Catwoman owns Batman throughout the film and even takes out the villain and saves Batmans life. It's almost as if the feminist/gay Hollywood kommissars ordered him to make grrrl power the central theme.
The foreign prison scenes provided alot of comedy gold. An unguarded prison with a giant hole and lots of rope and the idiots cant figure out how to get out?
Also funny was how Batman goes and waste time putting a flaming bat signal on the Brooklyn Bridge when a neutron bomb is set to go off . He had enough rigging to do that but still fought Bane hand to hand? Pathetic. And when a football field becomes a giant crater and some masked dude performs a public neck snapping the crowd will remain in their seats and not panic.
I understand one has to suspend belief when viewing theater but this was just bad.
And yeah, Americas vibrancy tends to skew data.

You don't think conservatives have bought completely into the gurl-power paradigm, and are constantly suckered into pedestaling women?
...What color is the sky in your world, a light shade of willful hope?
And when a football field becomes a giant crater and some masked dude performs a public neck snapping the crowd will remain in their seats and not panic.
"Not panic." Is that why they all jumped out of their seats and screamed "ahhhh!!!" ? Maybe they were out of breath. From sitting.

You mean The Dark Knight? Considered widely as a masterpiece, and one of the greatest movies of the last 10 years? You should have stopped your batwreck right there. I think reruns of Jerry Springer will be more on your level, because at least it is "real."
The thing that made me laugh was your review.

He praises the performances, direction, and writing, and says the film "redefine[s] the possibilities of the comic-book movie." Ebert states that the "key performance" is by Heath Ledger, and pondered whether he would become the first posthumous Academy Award-winning actor since Peter Finch in 1976. Ledger ultimately won the Oscar. Ebert named it one of his twenty favorite films of 2008."

Wow, I didn't know they even made that many movies in 08'.
Of course the parasites are going to hype up, and award, flicks that lend to the degredation of society. That why a film about some San fag named Milk won more honors than Gran Torino. GT grossed far more and was viewed by far more than Milk.
And you accuse me of not seeing the "color" of the sky?
They still hold the Oscars?
The Dark Knight is overrated and this is from a comic book geek and huge Batman fan.
I find myself heavily agreeing with T.

Pretty much my thoughts EXACTLY.
"Pretty much my thoughts EXACTLY."
The first few minutes (the bank robbery) were well done. The rest of the movie was pretty forgettable. In fact, I think I must have zoned out and started thinking about something else pretty early on in the movie, because the plot description sounds only vaguely familiar.

Is that why you completely skipped all the moviegoers (including the 874,471 from the general public sample), and focused on the critics? The Dark Knight was also one of the top grossing films. So critics are happy. The general public is happy. The studios are happy. The trifecta!
You can count, right? Correct if I am wrong, but I believe there are more moviegoers than actual professional movie critics. That sky seems math-impaired too.
They still hold the Oscars?
I don't know. Do they?

Yeah, things tend to be forgettable when you forget them.
Do you actually have a point? "Well...I was hungry... then I wasn't after I ate. I must have eaten."
You noticed how I skipped mmaier2112, and Unending, since those are just individual opinions about a particular movie.
Also notice how everyone has completely switched from talking about The Dark Knight Rises over to The Dark Knight, since I ripped that original review so much it started crying and it swallowed its own tongue.
