Everything has fallen into place

In music, as in all artistic endeavors, one often waits for inspiration to strike.  Sometimes one is inspired by a sudden desire to create something beautiful.  Sometimes, one is inspired to share a particular emotion or experience.  Sometimes, one is inspired to challenge the status quo.  And sometimes, one is inspired to mindlessly imitate works by superior and more original artists over and over again.  But rather than doing a "reboot" of Thriller, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, or a dubstep remix of "You Light Up My Life", the Pink Rabbit Posse happened to find inspiration in an interview on Canadian radio during which the interviewee inexplicably announced himself, again, to be inclined towards engaging in a certain activity that is quite rightly denounced by all decent and law-abiding Canadian citizens.

Hence Everything is Falling Into Place (Groove Kittens mix) by Rapey McRaperson and the Pink Rabbit Posse.  McRapey really did an amazing job on the vocals; he nailed them in just one take before rounding up a few local college girls to help with the backing vocals.  This is the first single for the Pink Rabbit Posse, which is presently hard at work on a techno opera based on the works of Isaac Asimov and his hitherto unknown career as a flasher.

Nate; I don’t follow twitter either, but it’s not too hard for one to type twitter.com/scalzi into a search engine and observe a nine day period with no posts prior to shooting off ones mouth.

Bob said, “you think GOING ON A CRUISE demonstrates that Scalzi has a "life"?

Yes, more so than Vox has demonstrated with this post (and others, but especially this one).  Note; I agree with you on cruises, but to each their own and “doing something I would personally find excruciating” is not necessarily the same thing as “not having a life”.

@Vox Day

But has it really never occurred to you that people amuse themselves in different ways? Perhaps you see no humor or amusement in it, but obviously, plenty of people feel otherwise.

Of course it has occurred to me. I read this blog, don't I? And you are correct about some seeing humor in this. In fact I do too. But there is always a subtext to humor, both good and bad. I was merely commenting on what seems the obvious subtext. But, here's my suggestion: I don't think there is much you can do, humor or otherwise, to overcome the trouncing that took place when Mr. Scalzi put out the tip jar and wrote your name on it. But, you can always keep trying.

imagine a football field.

one team is playing defense... and the other team thinks its playing dodgeball. The QB picks up the ball... bounces it off a defender.. who then scoops it up and runs it in for a touchdown while the offensive team congratulates the QB for getting the defender out.

You're playing dodgeball tad. And by the rules of dodgeball... you think Scalzi scored.

unfortunately... you and scalzi actually have no idea that the game actually isn't dodgeball no matter how much you wish it.

Anonymous VD February 19, 2013 12:47 PM

Just out of curiousity, what do the Canadian copyright laws say about (presumably unauthorized) sampling?

Like the USA, they're mostly concerned with music samplings. It's not like all those songs with snippets of George Bush speeches or the news got permission from the White House or CNN.

More importantly, this isn't a commercial product. And also, the CBC isn't about to do anything, since a legal review will quickly reveal that I have an excellent libel case against them. I can quote John Scalzi until the end of time without a problem, but he has made some very serious charges on a mainstream media program that he would have to prove with his "textual evidence".

Nate,

Everyone is playing Dodgeball. It's just that you and others think the game is something else. There is no indication in any of the coverage of this "issue" that Vox Day has gotten the better of Scalzi. In fact, nearly all the coverage has noted that Scalzi's move was inspired, that Vox Day is nothing more than a hating troll and that this is a good way to deal with it. You don't hear anyone saying, "yea...great idea, call Mr. Scalzi a rapist." In fact, no one even thinks it's funny.

But this is beside the point. We are at the stage of this little issue where now it's about finding ways lesson the impact of Scalzi's score.

Most teams walk off the field upon being beaten. Some stay on the field, rant and rage, even when the other team and the spectators have noted the loss and left the stadium.

Which is indeed amusing, since I am not a troll by any definition of the term. In fact, Tad, you fit the description much better than I do. The "coverage" was set up by a Whatever reader who is published by Tor Books and contributes to the Guardian, and who is in a lot more trouble than Mr. Scalzi.

Now, please answer the question. I assume a mere apology and retraction will not be enough, so how much do I have to be paid for you to publicly acknowledge, here on this blog, that Mr. Scalzi's move was not, in fact, the winning move you claim it to have been? I had been leaning towards letting it go, but now that you've made it clear that you think Mr. Scalzi is winning, clearly I must pursue the matter.

That's not a rhetorical question? Hmmm...Funny.

But I'm happy to address it.

There is not enough you can be paid for me to admit that Mr. Scalzi's was not the "winning move". And here's why:

The win is not measured in cash. The win is measured in perception. You don't seem to get this and the evidence lies in the fact that now you are arguing over what a "troll" is. It doesn't matter that the definition of "troll" may not be what Scalzi and those covering the issue are saying it is. What matters is that the derogatory term has been applied to you and those that are applying it have convinced those observing the issue that it is both derogatory and properly applied.

Blogger Markku February 19, 2013 3:11 PM

So, let's get this straight. Even if the guy who applied the derogatory term gets fired from the Guardian, I receive public retractions and letters of apology from the media publications that bought his story, and I get paid monetary damages from various parties, you're still going to be convinced that John Scalzi's move was the winning one?

Just out of curiosity, let's take it a bit further. What if John Scalzi is found dead, an apparent suicide, in his home before the end of the month? Would you still regard it as a winning move?

Of course. Once again, we are not keeping score on the basis of cash or letters. We are keeping track on the basis of perception; the perception that your actions are of the juvenile quality and that Mr. Scalzi's Tip Jar response was inspired. No cash or letter changes that perception.

Just out of curiosity, let's take it a bit further. What if John Scalzi is found dead, an apparent suicide, in his home before the end of the month? Would you still regard it as a winning move?

Yes, Vox Day. You would still be seen as the juvenile one and Scalzi as the person who come up with an inspired response. Unless of course it was the Tip Jar that inspired him to harm himself.

Blogger Markku February 19, 2013 3:25 PM

I assume "the blog" is weighted so as to mean "the ilk". My take is that every village needs its idiot. To remind us that "there, but for the grace of God, go I".

Executions used to be public. Enemies heads were placed on pikes. In the Triumphs, the winning generals engaged in ritual strangulation.

Now hanging can be ambiguous (David Caradine), but does appear a suicide. Gamma Rabbit would buy an insurance policy and make it look like an accident. We don't have Kevorkian kits yet, but Scalzi is creative enough...

I should also confess I forgot it was the CBC - in Canada that has the charter of rights and no equivalent of our 1st Amendment. Yes, libel. Or because it is audio, slander? I live just north of our neighbors to the great white north.

(And wonder what Canada would be without the USA. Perhaps we will find out. The accepted draft-dodgers during the Vietnam war. Perhaps the Free State project should think bigger than NH which is being invaded en Mass.).

Depends, I guess....Depends on what might be apologized for, how the apology is offered, who reads the apology, etc. Additionally, it depends on how the media write a story about any correction.

Tad will have the perception that Scalzi's obsequious apology, kow-towing, and the rest will just be a strategic retreat or simply his magnanimity in creating a climate of peace and love.

Except that I value my ability to reason, I might ask Tad for his current pharmacopeia.

But that is why Gamma Rabbit is demonic (and as a fraud is level 7 or greater in Dante's hell). REALITY is what should matter. When perception differs, it is at best an illusion to be avoided or a downright fraud.
