Geek IQ = 156

That seems about right, I suppose.  I know a few basics, but nothing overly esoteric. Test yourself via the Youtube Geek IQ test.

Anonymous Mr. Nightstick August 08, 2013 4:02 PM

Damn, I got a 213.

Anonymous JN August 08, 2013 4:05 PM

208. What's the max?

Anonymous Daniel August 08, 2013 4:05 PM

Anonymous JN August 08, 2013 4:05 PM

And I completely missing the first one. Didn't know you clicked within the video.

Anonymous Salt August 08, 2013 4:09 PM

Got a 170... funny stuff.

Anonymous David of One August 08, 2013 4:10 PM

227 and I missed 2

Anonymous Mob-Rules August 08, 2013 4:11 PM

I got 170.

Anonymous Will Best August 08, 2013 4:12 PM

218. I missed 1, and didn't recognize a couple right away.

Anonymous Anonagain August 08, 2013 4:19 PM

257 - A Mighty Geek You Are
The only one I missed was about some video game, about which I am totally clueless. Guessed right on the blue-haired Jap creature. Science ones were all a piece of cake.

But I'm not a Geek. Not really.

Anonymous fish August 08, 2013 4:22 PM

And todays proud occupant of the short bus

Can somebody show me out?

Anonymous Stephen J. August 08, 2013 4:24 PM

202. Although I guessed on a couple and must have been lucky.

Blogger loverofamerica33 August 08, 2013 4:25 PM

183. Missed the first and last.

Anonymous Crusader Corim August 08, 2013 4:31 PM

292, but I got lucky and they were all in my wheelhouse. I watched again and there were several I had no idea about.

Anonymous Stephen J. August 08, 2013 4:36 PM

I didn't realize it changed on repeat runs. I gave it a second time and got 212.

Blogger Amethyst Dominica August 08, 2013 4:58 PM

189. But I nailed all of the pop culture ones and flubbed all of the science ones so it doesn't count.

Anonymous Difster August 08, 2013 5:12 PM

I retook it a few times and missed a bunch and still didn't get lower than 163.

Anonymous Stickwick August 08, 2013 5:12 PM

Criminy, 252.

Anonymous Vidad August 08, 2013 5:31 PM

201. Total luck, except on the science-related stuff.

Actually, the "luck" is probably just my innate ability to pick up patterns subconsciously and know what things are without knowing them.

Anonymous SDH August 08, 2013 5:43 PM

248. Who's the blue haired Asian chick?

Anonymous Leonidas August 08, 2013 5:43 PM

I got 215. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Anonymous Laz August 08, 2013 5:52 PM

I think it may be timed. I missed 2 and got 210. Then I did it a second time and missed 2 again but, did it faster and got 218.

On a side note: Can anybody tell me why I hear Stewie's voice when Vox posts in the comments?

Anonymous Noah B. August 08, 2013 6:01 PM

Took it a few times -- ranged from 36 to 256 depending on what came up. Pop culture is not my thing. The science questions were all well presented though.

Anonymous Salt August 08, 2013 6:06 PM

OT -

Vibrancy on the rise.

With conditions continuing to deteriorate in Syria, the Obama administration is making a major policy shift by agreeing for the first time to allow thousands of new Syrian refugees into the United States, The Cable has learned.

I would hope it is to Chicago.

Anonymous Northern Observer August 08, 2013 6:21 PM

173. I'm not a gamer, so I missed some of those.

Anonymous Sensei August 08, 2013 6:23 PM

Yikes, 244 on the first try.. But most of mine were science-vocab type and I got lucky guessing on the pop culture ones.

Anonymous Hyperphrenius August 08, 2013 6:25 PM

My first try was 225, the only question I got wrong was the first (a videogame or something).

Reloading I found the questions chosen and their order are randomized. This time I got 192. Youtube really does reduce your intelligence.

Blogger WATYF August 08, 2013 6:30 PM

But I've found it varies based on the questions you're asked and whether or not they happen to fall within your "Geek" wheelhouse. I took it a couple other times and the questions were different and my score was lower.

Anonymous W00t August 08, 2013 6:34 PM

222 W00t!

Anonymous Tonya August 08, 2013 6:38 PM

206 first time, 255 the second. a couple of lucky guesses.

I got 163 and I had no idea what agent whatever is nor the d&d Vikings at the beginning.

Blogger Bogey August 08, 2013 7:07 PM

You nerds.

Too embarrassed to give my score, man that Dr. Who question, what the hell?

I missed the question after the LARP question because I was laughing my ass off too hard.

Anonymous Godfrey August 08, 2013 7:11 PM

I took the test and I'm not a geek... not even close.

Strangely, I'm a little disappointed.

Anonymous Godfrey August 08, 2013 7:13 PM

Ok, tried again and scored a 208.

Blogger Jake August 08, 2013 7:27 PM

160, got all the science and computer stuff, but anime is greek to me. Or Japanese I suppose.

Anonymous Jerome Horowitz August 08, 2013 7:29 PM

205, good guessing on the gaming characters.

Anonymous Apeman August 08, 2013 7:34 PM

I got 157 which I don't understand. How could I get one point different then VD when there is not that many questions?

Anonymous Noah B. August 08, 2013 7:35 PM

So are there any LARPers here?

Anonymous allyn71 August 08, 2013 7:40 PM

Anonymous TXVB August 08, 2013 7:52 PM

Hey, I *DID* just get back from DEF CON

Anonymous Roundtine August 08, 2013 8:05 PM

199 Almost all my questions were science based, except for one with the LARP people. I did it again and got 276, i think i had every question right.

Anonymous IG-88B August 08, 2013 8:07 PM

183... but I inadvertently marked one wrong.

Blogger Cinco August 08, 2013 8:07 PM

205, nailed the LARPers. Botched the hex color for red :(

Anonymous Athor Pel August 08, 2013 9:04 PM

I did it three times.

First time I didn't answer at all. Score 0.
Second time I answered about 2/3 and got some wrong. Score 127.
Third time I answered them all and got them all right. Score 270.

I think it is timed.

I think a perfect score is probably 300, assuming all questions answered correctly and a freaky quick reaction time. Which for the typical sun deprived and exercise averse geek is asking a lot. But maybe I'm just biased since my brain and reaction times aren't all that quick really.

Anonymous JI August 08, 2013 9:11 PM

Ha ha ha, 167, absolutely the only area in which I could possibly best Vox (and even then I suspect I'm just having a good day). :-)

Anonymous Josh August 08, 2013 9:12 PM

Anonymous Apeman August 08, 2013 9:32 PM

I think the speed idea must be right. After I saw Athor Pel's comment I went back and tried again by trying speed over thinking about the questions. If anything, I think I got more wrong then I did the first time but I got 205 as a score. So either the questions are weighted or speed plays a really big part of your score.

I think that is kinda bogus way to test for geeks. For one thing, most over the internet speed tests are affected by the quality of your internet connection.

Ah well, I have already wasted too much of my life thinking about this.

Blogger Unknown August 08, 2013 10:04 PM

174 It's official, I'm a geek.

Blogger Huggums August 08, 2013 10:22 PM

252. I don't watch Dr. Who.

Anonymous zen0 August 08, 2013 10:28 PM

I got zero.

It was going so fast...... I didn't catch on till about the 4th question.

I am kinda proud about that.

Yes , I am.

Anonymous Measlomapaddycakes Fuckerbumpkin August 08, 2013 10:47 PM

I can translate ancient Greek. I eat up Dr. Heiser lecture videos. [1] I don't need no stinking test to determine I am a geek. I used to code my chess game in Fortran IV. I fix my own YLOD on my PS3. By many other measures, I'm a supergeek. My family will confirm my geekness. I was more attracted to the HL2 based movie short.

[1] If you have to ask, who is Dr. Heiser, then you are truly not a geek. Nowhere approaching supergeekdom. I am well beyond Star Trek and even Stargate. Only the Dr. Heiser's of this world, are beyond me. I want to be Dr. Heiser. Dr. Daniel Jackson would give his left, right, and third testicle to be Dr. Heiser.

Anonymous Morris August 09, 2013 12:34 AM

74 the first time, 204 on a second run.

Anonymous zen0 August 09, 2013 12:34 AM

yer fukt, Measlomapaddycakes Fuckerbumpkin.

Anonymous geckoman August 09, 2013 1:27 AM

Started it before I had my headphones on, rattled by speed and missed the first four questions, resulting in score of 60 the first time.

Second time - 205 (I got some easy math/science questions)

Anonymous vryedenker August 09, 2013 2:53 AM

173. And I made a stupid afrikaans-english translation error with the balloon (not a spoiler).

Anonymous Anonagain August 09, 2013 4:04 AM

Speaking of geekiness, I recently found an
old BBC series on youtube starring Boromir himself, Sean Bean
. Youtube has all 14 complete episodes, and two movies. They deal with the adventures of the brave and noble Sergeant Sharpe (Sean Bean) who, in the first episode, is brought up from the ranks by Lord Wellington himself, to be an officer, a Lieutenant. Each episode is an hour and 41 minutes long, so a whole bunch of stuff goes on in each one.

If you like British military in the early 1800s during the Napoleonic Wars, lots of action, some romance (the women can't take their clothes off fast enough for our studly hero), vile villains, happy endings, and NOT seeing Sean Bean killed off in the beginning of the story, you will really enjoy watching this series. I sure did. Pip pip, cheerio.

Too bad all this confirmed geekiness can't change a rats ass of the coming imminent judgment that befalls all, temporal then eternal.

Anonymous VanDerMerwe August 09, 2013 4:16 AM

"Hatsuke Miku. It's weaboo stuff, known for her obnoxiously-high pitched techno-infused songs."

I dunno what's worse. Enjoying a pretty cartoonish feminine design or taking the time to know what a "weaboo" is and adopting that language thereby giving credence to teenage punks on 4chan.

Aren't you just a ray of sunshine this morning?

Anonymous Anonymous August 09, 2013 2:37 PM

Hmm, I got 256 despite guessing on more than half of them. Either I got very lucky or something doesn't add up.

So SCA is called LARP now?

Anonymous The CronoLink August 09, 2013 4:36 PM

167 - what was the difference between geeks and nerds?

Anonymous Chancellor Gorkon August 09, 2013 6:26 PM

222, but a couple were lucky guesses.

Anonymous Darth Toolpodicus August 09, 2013 11:40 PM

257: Fibonacci for Pete's sake!

Anonymous Anonagain August 11, 2013 12:49 AM

I just noticed that Vox's reading list includes the very Sharpe stories to which I was referring. That is quite a coincidence. It is somehow disconcerting whenever it appears that Vox and I have some very specific things in common.

Blogger Didact August 12, 2013 11:02 AM

245 second time. I know of only one guy in my entire circle of acquaintances who could likely score higher. Of course, all of my friends are also major geeks.

Anonymous Anonymous August 12, 2013 8:14 PM

Gaming and anime is my thing... science wasn't hard at all though. 296, what's the max?
