~1 on Amazon

McRapey simply never stops self-promoting:
If you're a non-traditionally pubbed author, today's the day to tell my ~50k daily readers about your book.
It strikes me that if scientists could simply figure out how to harness the little man's internal self-promotion engine, we wouldn't need green energy or nuclear reactors.

In related news, I'm very pleased to announce that Quantum Mortis: A Man Disrupted is now the ~1-selling science fiction book on Amazon! To celebrate that, I'm posting the corrected high-resolution version of JartStar's Quantum Mortis: Gravity Kills wallpaper here for download. Just click on the image to see the whole thing; right click and Save As to save it. Because it is pretty.

As for ~50k DAILY READERS... why not just go straight to ~ONE MILLION DAILY READERS? Believe it or not, that's a closer multiple to 50,000 than 50,000 is to his current number of average daily readers.

In any event, thanks to a little help from the Master Monster Hunter, it turns out that I am also the ~1 author in Science Fiction today.  Hey, this self-promotion stuff is easy!

It's sad to see a man so desperate to be relevant.

Just bought. Merry Christmas.

Dh, he merely tried, unsuccessfully, to deceive you again. He didn't actually seduce your wife or daughter....

It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your faul.

Blogger wrf3 December 06, 2013 1:19 PM

Congratulations, Vox and Steve.

Blogger Tank December 06, 2013 1:20 PM

Ouch. Some hurtful math there.

And FUN !!!

LOL

Anonymous VD December 06, 2013 1:23 PM

His self-inflated claims are especially funny given that last month, he barely even averaged 3,000 readers per day. His Google Pageviews for the month were barely more than half mine... at VP alone.

Anonymous Daniel December 06, 2013 1:49 PM

I'm a fan of both the Vikings and the Cyclones. We're about #1! We're about #1!

Seriously though, where qm ranks right now is impressive enough on its own, and the implications for the future series are really unlimited. Nice to watch a book whose story mostly blows crap up also metapoetically blow up the crap mythology in the publishing industry.

Anonymous DrTorch December 06, 2013 1:50 PM

So VD, did you take up McRapey on his offer, and push QM on his site?

Let's see how much integrity he has.

Anonymous Josh December 06, 2013 1:50 PM

If you use new common core math, 3,000=50,000

Anonymous Carlotta December 06, 2013 1:57 PM

Beautiful artwork.

Nate ~Drunk on Wednesday
Jamsco ~Open Theist
Markku ~Russian apologist
Vox Day, ~The Most Beloved Republican on the Internet
McRapey, ~Honest

This could get out of hand.

Anonymous Daniel December 06, 2013 1:58 PM

Aw, man. The squiggly ~ didn't format.

Anonymous Carlotta December 06, 2013 1:59 PM

Is that really you dh?

You are taking it really personal.

And I have an image in my head I need bleach to get out.

Anonymous Josh December 06, 2013 1:59 PM

He must have very little muscle mass:

Unfortunately for me, when I get into the “must finish book” phase, I tend also to snack more or less constantly, with my excuse being that I am feeding my brain. Well, my brain is fed, all right. Sadly, so is my gut. At the moment I weigh 178.4 pounds, which is roughly ten pounds heavier than I was when I started the month of November (you can probably see a bit of the extra poundage in the picture above)

Anonymous bob k. mando December 06, 2013 2:00 PM

wait ... you're saying Nate isn't drunk on Wednesday?

Anonymous Daniel December 06, 2013 2:00 PM

That's a unique flaw when you bold a squiggly ~ it looks fine in preview, but becomes a normal hyphen ~ when published.

Anonymous Daniel December 06, 2013 2:02 PM

... you're saying Nate isn't drunk on Wednesday?

Yep. Never. Don't worry. He makes up for it later. Live on air.

hey, uhhh, isn't Scalzi *against* allowing non-traditionally published scifi authors into the SFWA?

John Scalzi ‏@scalzi 3 Dec
@RubenBolling I'm happy to do it. We're all creators.

so, we're all one big happy family of creators ... right up until it comes time to allow indie / self publishing people into the SFWA?

i don't see any hypocrisy here AT ALL.

Anonymous Brother Thomas December 06, 2013 2:12 PM

I have zero-k daily readers and it doesn't bother me in the slightlest.

Anonymous Josh December 06, 2013 2:12 PM

No, see, he'll support them, but he won't let them into his cisnormative clubhouse.

Anonymous Giraffe December 06, 2013 2:16 PM

I would love to see McRapey promoting your book to all 15 of his readers.

Anonymous TWS December 06, 2013 2:18 PM

That is a nice cover. I read that at one time most sci fi books were sold based on the cover art.

Vox - Do you have any idea what percentage of sales for ebooks, especially sci fi, are based on the covers? Good covers say, 'this is a professional work' just like 90% of the weird-ass 99 cent porn titles say, 'weird ass cheap porn'.

At this point I wonder if simply having a good cover for an ebook is signaling 'not weird-ass cheap porn'.

If you use new common core math, 3,000=50,000

No, see, there you go, trying to apply White Male Problem Solving.
The Common Core way is to answer every math question with an essay on how the problem made you feel, and why you feel that your answer is perfectly valid Because Self-Esteem.

Long-story short, planes will begin falling out of the sky regularly in, oh, about 20 years...

Anonymous NorthernHamlet December 06, 2013 2:27 PM

I was actually thinking about your projects today Vox and wondering two things.

I've seen you do an occasional cross-post to your others, but beyond that, do you have any strategies or techniques you typically use that you find reliable for generating traffic/sales?

Also, with my current project, I've inspired a woman to directly compete with me. Her strategy: blatantly show her assets. She is now in the lead by some measures. So I hired some assets of my own. I'd like to get her to self-destruct because she's siphoning off my end a bit. Any tips?

Anonymous VD December 06, 2013 2:35 PM

So VD, did you take up McRapey on his offer, and push QM on his site?

I can't imagine the rabbits would enjoy it. More importantly, I didn't learn about it until too late.

we're all one big happy family of creators ... right up until it comes time to allow indie / self publishing people into the SFWA?

Oh, he's just doing his usual thing of kissing asses now that he's belatedly realized which way the wind was blowing. A few years from now, he'll have transformed himself into the great champion of self-publishing and hope that everyone has forgotten that he actively campaigned against letting them into the SFWA.

Anonymous VD December 06, 2013 2:38 PM

So far, the best one appears to be asking Larry to say something nice about it. That's about it.

Anonymous giraffe December 06, 2013 2:46 PM

I'll bet there are plenty that would, just none that would admit it.

@Carlotta: And I have an image in my head I need bleach to get out.

This I love. I shalt be a plagiarizer at first opportunity; and often after, as well. Thank You.
I took this strategy with Tom K. several weeks ago when he mentioned feeling all the lefts pain; and, liking it. I've used that several times in written stuff and in conversation. It has worked each time for either appreciative laughter or downright murderous anger; depending on political orientation.
And, I feel all that anger and like it too....
This blog is wonderful for all the useful quotes you can steal if for no other reason.

Anonymous Ferd December 06, 2013 2:49 PM

Can I get a free copy for my Kindle? This asking for free stuff is easy as well! Woo Hoo,,food stamps here i come!!

"His self-inflated claims are especially funny given that last month, he barely even averaged 3,000 readers per day. His Google Pageviews for the month were barely more than half mine... at VP alone."

And I would surmise that many of his daily "hits" are his detractors not his admirers. Most go to watch his sturm and drag show.

Anonymous dh December 06, 2013 2:58 PM

My 2014 prediction is that he hires a click farmer to drive up his numbers.

Anonymous jack December 06, 2013 3:06 PM

I visited Scalsi's site, for maybe the second time ever. What a strange little site it is. I started rolling the page and after about 20 or 30 authors I had never heard of gave it up.

Vox, you would be right, statically as well as tactically, and enough other reasons to fill a barrel, not to ad your book to that list. It would only erode your honor to do so. Besides, Scalsi would probably delete it soon as it appeared.

Blogger Conan the Cimmerian, King of Aquilonia December 06, 2013 3:50 PM

That truly is a great book cover by JartStar.

But next time, put some half naked women on the covers.

I offer my services to pose with them, if that will help.

speaking of McRapey's 'usual thing', you should probably know that he's in yur blog, usurping yur narrative.

I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of QM:AMD. I got the epub but told myself I would wait till the actual book arrived before I started reading. There's just something about flipping pages that appeals to me.
I did take advantage of Vox' free Ebook offer and read AMB the other day on Kindle for pc,. it was a kick ass ride. Count me among the " I dont read Sci-fy/Fy much" crowd but,.. this was a good read. The ending kinda pissed me off because now I have to read the entire series [?] before getting into AMD.
But it's all good.
Come to think of it, a Voxiversity on AMD would be a trip

Today, yes. Doubtful that will be the case in the near future, unless a lot more people discover it soon. That's the result of Larry mentioning it on his blog.

Anonymous Anonymous December 06, 2013 5:56 PM

"And I would surmise that many of his daily "hits" are his detractors not his admirers. Most go to watch his sturm and drag show."

I admit to checking it out at least once a day or so. for exactly that reason.

I also like to turn over rocks to see what's squirming underneath.

It's kinda the same.

Wow, looking at the top 100 science fiction books, once you get past every version and sequel to ender's Game I found Haldeman's Forever War on the list. I read that in my comparative Defense Policy class in the 1980s, and it was written in the 1970s.

A Man Disrupted finally bought.

Alright, speaking of gun porn, since best I can tell, Amazon doesn't carry those Cerberus MPE-40's the Wardog Inc. guys use, would a S&W M&P-15 be welcome under your Christmas tree? I'm still shopping for a few people...

Anonymous The other skeptic December 07, 2013 12:04 AM

..., but regardless, they were being recorded and it was only two months since the last base-wide series of sexual harassment lectures.

Damn. That was funny. I would have paid $6.99 for a novel with that in it.
