The bassline thickens

Have we approached the point of statistical unlikelihood yet?
Yet another banker has committed suicide, with a JP Morgan forex trader leaping to his death from the top of the firm’s Chater House headquarters in Hong Kong.

Over the past few weeks at least seven bankers have died under mysterious circumstances, including another JP Morgan senior manager who jumped off the top of a skyscraper in London last month.

Speculation is rife that the series of deaths are connected to some kind of looming financial crisis or a huge legal case targeting bankers for malfeasance, although no definite link has been established.
Not that I'm any fan of bankers, but this is getting a little weird. Especially the suicide by nail gun.

As far as basslines go, I prefer 8-10lb Trilene monofilament for bass, and 12-14lb for northern. For walleye, I prefer Berkley Vanish monofilament, again, 8-10lb.

Not related, but has Black History Month been cancelled or something? It's February, and this is the first time in living memory I haven't been inundated with the theme. In truth, I completely forgot about it until today.

Does anyone know how many people actually jumped out of windows back at the outset of the (previous) Great Depression? History books make it sound like they were littering the streets, but was it like dozens in the few days after the crash, or a few spread out over weeks like this?

Per a quick google search.
First year: 23K suicides
20K laided off each day. 20K business bankruptcies

Prior to Great Depression: suicide rate 14 per 100k
During " " 17 per 100K

maybe this is accurate..

"Junjie becomes the 7th banker to suddenly die in recent weeks." He may have offed himself since he pissed off the wrong person in the Communist Party. They don't take kindly to that. Going off what cailcorishev said, I'd like some numbers too. We all remember the old meme of stockbrokers committing suicide in movies and whatnot. Nonetheless, I'll admit it is curious that seven of these guys have died in recent weeks. As far as it having been from InfoWars, Drudge (although I recognize Vox isn't Drudge) links to their credible articles. I'd bet all of these guys did indeed die.

"Especially the suicide by nail gun."

"shooting himself multiple times with a nail gun...with up to eight wounds to the torso and head."

Yeeeah... that...that takes some doing, what with the size of the average nailgun and the pneumatic recoil. His leverage would have been terrible too, unless he was using his chest to press the butt of the nailgun up against a wall.

He must have been really dedicated to offing himself, as well as really bad at aiming at anything vital.

Blogger Doom February 19, 2014 11:29 PM

This isn't even about cleaning house any more. This is just killing anyone who even thinks about not playing the game. I am surprised, with the mojo it would take to get to these people, especially after the first few, that they don't have the power to shut down the media. Unless they are so far beyond the law that free advertising works better than whispered rumors?

I don't have any inside dope. But it is clear to see that these guys aren't the type, or in positions where they would, leap. None of them have much to lose, even from a collapse. Beyond that, most moderns have no conscience in business. And these aren't the guys who would have been calling those kinds of shots. These all seem more like insider banking investigators rather than choice makers. Could there be a civil war within the banks themselves? Could be if a lot of the assets are black and not all of the bank knows it.

Its like God waved his Jesus wand and was like "let there be conscience".

that's only if you think these are really suicides ... as opposed to "officially ruled as suicides".

c'mon. suicide by nail gun? who the fuck does that? if you've got access to construction tools and equipment there are LOTS of better ways to do yourself in.

The Original Hermit February 19, 2014 9:32 PM

no, no, no. THIS is the suicide bassline you're looking for.

Feather Blade February 19, 2014 9:42 PM
His leverage would have been terrible too

only if you're dumb enough to try to use a standard grip. and besides, the whole point of a pneumatic gun is that you DON'T need leverage.

standard usage with a nail gun is to pull the trigger and slap the gun down on the roof ( or what have you ) and let the safety disengaging trigger the firing action. that's how you get that rapid fire, 'automatic' nailing you hear on construction sites. you're basically bouncing the nail gun along your snap line, letting gravity and recoil do all the work.

IF you reverse grip the gun, so your thumb is actuating the trigger ... all you have to do is slap the gun against your head or chest or what have you and all the work is done for you.

it's the shooting yourself multiple times that requires true dedication ... or help ...

Blogger JS Mill February 20, 2014 12:46 AM

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but the Nail Gun Suicide is a little hard to swallow.

Anonymous castricv February 20, 2014 1:56 AM

Perhaps we are looking at a more internal purge that is incapable of being subtle due to time constraints. Better no witnesses or whistleblowers, but tricky PR then a nightmare to end all nightmares. And just because they are not all at the same company does not mean they are not all linked. Interwoven webs around the world and all that.

Essentially it could be a few "hired help" getting this done "Pelican Brief - Wall Street Style"

Unfortunately without a ditzy redhead and her reluctant black hero, we shall never know....

People finding things that are inconvient like this:

Perhaps in others, its a way to sate peoples anger at the bankers and at the same time send a message to those at the top.

Of course there is also JPM's rummored ties to the alphabet stew. Then I doubt its just them . Quite convienient though if you need to clean up a few messes.

Interesting too is people like Celente claiming there are more deaths than reported. Something like 20+

Blogger RobertT February 20, 2014 2:09 PM

I can't call an election or a superbowl to save my life, so take this with a grain of salt, but I agree with those who don't think these are suicides. Multiple jumping off roofs is pretty questionable. It wouldn't be my choice. Whenever I've been involved in trauma, time seems to really slow down to a very slow motion. I can vividly imagine changing my mind near the top and having to ride it all the way to the bottom. But it's the nail gun thing that clinches it for me. I was once shot with an arrow and I would never elect to shoot myself multiple times. It's my impression that people who commit suicide seldom select a method that involves that much pain.
