We're number 52

The Right Wing News releases its annual list of the 100 most popular Conservative sites:
1) Fox News: 158
2) Wall Street Journal: 214
3) The Drudge Report: 437
4) The Blaze: 565
5) New York Post: 889

Drudge isn't #1?

Anonymous Truth or Consequences May 01, 2014 4:10 PM

This blog is an oasis in a barren desert of PC. That's what brought me here.

Anonymous Don May 01, 2014 4:10 PM

But 600 pageviews a day, how can you possibly beat that?

Blogger Cinco May 01, 2014 4:12 PM

The Blaze is number 4!? That truly is shocking. But congrats on the ranking, it really is impressive!

Wow - Althouse has really fallen if memory serves. Wasn't she #1 blog a while back?

Anonymous Andy May 01, 2014 4:35 PM

How does it not include Infowars? It's lame when people act like, "Infowars, what's that?" Everybody who isn't a lemming listens to Jones or at the very least checks out Infowars when a big story hits.

Higher than Mr. Conservative and the American Conservative. That's gotta count for something.

Probably more properly titled top 100 sites hated by the neo-marxists

It's a damn shame the American conservative isn't more widely read.

Anonymous Huckleberry - est. 1977 May 01, 2014 5:05 PM

One of the downsides of living life on the fringe - at least two thirds of those sites annoy me just as much as liberal sites do.

It's a damn shame the American conservative isn't more widely read.

At this point the American Conservative is much more anti-neoconservative than it is principally conservative.

I'm actually surprised you made the "conservative" list at all Vox. I guess they stick all things "not left" in the conservative column.

I do wonder how many mainstream conservative types secretly read Vox Day and agree with him on more than they'd publicly want to acknowledge. John Hawkins might be one of those people. It would certainly be very easy to simply overlook Vox Popoli or consciously condemn as an "extremist, racist" site instead of a conservative one.

Anonymous Arnie May 01, 2014 6:15 PM

"I wouldn't necessarily describe myself as a conservative, but then, I wouldn't describe Fox News as conservative either."

What a stupid comment. The only way to honestly describe Fox News n the context of American politics is "Conservative". Though I would agree that you are not conservative. A political philosophy centered in hatred of minorities and women is something else altogether.

OT

An older lady named Sherry came by today to tell me her story. As a child, her father was killed in an airplane crash deemed an act of God. Because of this she hated God. Making acquaintances and friends over the years, if Sherry found out someone was Christian she would summarily cut this person out of her life. Going on, she told of living a hard life. She was no stranger to Salvation Army missions. At one stop Sherry was invited to attend the evening service. She replied she didn't believe in God or Jesus and didn't want to attend. The person who invited her just kindly put a hand on Sherry's shoulder and said, "That's OK, you have a nice day." Seated alone in her room in the mission that evening, she experienced a burst of overwhelming light, "Oh - God - it's you!" Sherry then said, "God, before we start off on a relationship, I want to ask you to forgive me for all the bad things I've said against you and your children."

Sherry came to see me because she wants to minister to homeless people. She is invited to the Gig on the courthouse lawn, starting season four next Saturday night.

Blogger Glen Filthie May 01, 2014 6:31 PM

Well boys, I am conservative as hell and possibly a neocon too - and this is the way I like to think of Vox:

He is not one of us, but he belongs to us. We conservatives need men like this to act as a conscience. Vox will ask questions we won't - and he will damned well answer them too! He gets the odd one wrong - I blame the libertarian in him for that - but more often than not he is right. When men like this speak, I shut up and listen. For those of you that say the conservatives are as bad as the liberals - do you think a progtard would listen to Vox? And take him seriously?

I think he should have been a little further up the list, myself. Possibly a lot further up.

Anonymous Anonymous May 01, 2014 6:41 PM

congratulations!

Does this mean that conservatives love speculative fiction, or that they are hungry for truth and will hear it from anywhere?

A political philosophy centered in hatred of minorities and women is something else altogether.

I see a lot of people say they feel this way about Vox. What I never see is anyone who is able to make a clear and convincing case for how and why their feelings about Vox are unequivocally defensible or rationally justifiable. It should be easy, if they are right.

Thousands may read this, Arnie. Here's your big chance to change minds using reason and logic. Go for it.

Fox News in a crony capitalist, statist, propaganda arm of the Repugant establishment. To put them and conservatism in the same area code is an insult to the English language and basic philosophy.

The list is more "100 Most Popular Websites Sort of Classified on the Right." Some are explicitly libertarian and have foundational principles at odds with those of conservatism, no matter their congruence on any particular issues. Others are populist/paleo-conservative and also at odds with those who claim to hold the torch for conservatism. Some, like Althouse, are on the right merely because they are not explicitly on the left.

VP/VD is somewhat idiosyncratic and I have not yet read enough to classify his politics with certainty, but in my opinion VP deserves to be on this list.

WRT to the American Conservative:
1. It is not the magazine that Pat Buchanan built. Politically...but mostly temperamentally.
2. The "anti-neo-con" tune gets old when it is nearly the only note played. I get it. I agree. I don't need to be beat over the head with it every day for years.
3. I have enjoyed Dreher since the time I still read National Review, but dang if his navel is not the most contemplated belly button on the right.

Again with the tautology.

Hint: it's not enough to point at a website and say, "There's the proof." The people to whom you are referring have already made that same claim; you need to dig further to find the actual proof, if it's really there where you say it is.

If we only have to do it your way, then this is also valid:

Fox News is conservative because its direct competition is so left wing. You seem like you are on the right side of the room if everyone is on the left side hanging out the windows!

Beau, that is why I despise calling such things "an act of god." They have the wrong god. Jesus said the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but that He came to bring life. Even many Christians lie about God, though different topic.

Anonymous zen0 May 01, 2014 9:22 PM

Arnie righteously blurts:

A political philosophy centered in hatred of minorities and women is something else altogether.

Your blind hatred of an honest appraisal of both minority culture and the genetically programmed tendencies of womenfolk has unfortunately marginalized you from adult conversation.

Do some research.

I predict in the future you will be telling people "bitchez be crazy" because you will continue to refuse to understand and adapt to the natural dynamics of reality because of the stunted growth of your ideological analysis.

The site that kind of surprised me the most is Ace of Spades HQ. Admittedly I come here a lot more than there, but Ace must have the highest comments/pageview ratio on the whole internet. I would have guessed it was a couple of octaves more popular than here. But our Darth Vox must have many, many more lurkers than commenters.

P.S. Just (finally) read ATOB. Phenomenal. I'm now kicking myself that I didn't by the Summa Elvetica hardcover with all the other shorts... Any word if that collection will be released in dead tree form from CH?

Arnie, as expected, you're just another incompetent troll who lacks the intellectual capacity to present a valid argument for your assertions. Bluster and hyperbole are meaningless to anyone paying attention to the facts.

Make some semblance of an effort to make an actual case supporting your position or shut up and go away.

Both are great reads. I read SE after ATOB and quite enjoyed the expanded depth of the universe.

In related news, I bought a Kindle yesterday so I can start plowing through other Castalia House titles. I'm also going to pick up a copy of Henry Vogel's "Scout's Honor." Classic adventure pulp, offered by Bruce Bethke's publishing imprint. Gotta support the good guys.

Contrats Vox, well earned.

This blog, aka Vox, is always refreshing, sharp, and clever. Its funny, ive been reading here for 7 or 8 years and I used to agree with about 80% of what he says, but now its around 90%, thanks to life experiences with the housing market, cops, progressives, etc.
Also, he's always been great at responding to my questions via blog or email.

A little girl got lost in a dog-fight pit, you'll never guess what happened next!
A psychopathic axe murderer escaped prison, wait till you see what he did next!

You seemed like a pointy-headed, bright young man with an odd photo and name who made observations aloud that I only dared think. Lost track over the years. Followed a link here a few years back and just keep coming back for more.

Gee, you are right behind Althouse, eh? You just need more doggy and nature pictures and I bet you will catapult right past her.

Can you stand on the burning deck and praise the captain's navigational skills and choice of crew all of whom are named Queegqueg? (The icebergs will put out the fires, no worries.) If so, you might even shoot past the Murdoch Street Urinal.

As a liberal that was directed to this blog because of the whole Hugo thing, I had prepared myself to be appalled by your site.

I'm not.

I don't agree with you on a lot of things, but I think you do a good job of justifying your opinions. You're a bit abrasive at times, but I think a lot of people are treating you unfairly.

I think it's important for people to both express their political opinions and be willing to listen to contrasting opinions, liberal or conservative, without immediately assuming the person with the other opinion is somehow evil. This is something that my side of the political spectrum is handling poorly with you.

> This is something that my side of the political spectrum is handling poorly with you.

It's something they've been handling poorly since at least the 1960's. For all of his faults, Nixon never deserved the hatred the left heaped upon him. And that paled in comparison to the vitriol and contempt they had for Reagan. And then we had Shrub, who practically handed the left everything they wanted on a silver platter, and the hatred only increased.

And then we had Shrub, who practically handed the left everything they wanted on a silver platter, and the hatred only increased.

It often helps to think of the left as a woman: the more you cave in to her to try to win her approval, the more she despises you and wants to dig the heel in. Nixon at least hated them back and played dirty, and Reagan sort of smirked at their silliness. But Bush wanted them to love him for his compassion and meet him halfway on a few minor things, so they savaged him.
