Nothing but a lie

The co-founder of the Weather Channel declares the obvious: there is no anthropogenic global climate change:
John Coleman, who co-founded the Weather Channel, shocked academics by insisting the theory of man-made climate change was no longer scientifically credible.

Instead, what 'little evidence' there is for rising global temperatures points to a 'natural phenomenon' within a developing eco-system.

In an open letter attacking the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, he wrote: "The ocean is not rising significantly. The polar ice is increasing, not melting away. Polar Bears are increasing in number. Heat waves have actually diminished, not increased. There is not an uptick in the number or strength of storms (in fact storms are diminishing).

"I have studied this topic seriously for years. It has become a political and environment agenda item, but the science is not valid." He added: "There is no significant man-made global warming at this time, there has been none in the past and there is no reason to fear any in the future.

"Efforts to prove the theory that carbon dioxide is a significant greenhouse gas and pollutant causing significant warming or weather effects have failed. There has been no warming over 18 years."
Always keep AGW/CC in mind whenever you see someone appealing to "scientific consensus". Scientific consensus is democracy. It is politics. It is collective opinion and it should not be confused with the actual scientific process (scientody) any more than the contents of the sewage system at a convention of scientists are.

I love this guy. I live in SD and watch his weather forecasts. He has openly mocked "Global Warming" on the air. He's hilarious.

Anonymous Corvinus October 23, 2014 4:31 PM

Carbon dioxide is a very weak greenhouse gas. It sure doesn't help heat up Mars that well, and Mars has about three times as much as Earth does. As for Venus... that planet has 90 bar of the stuff. 90 bar of air would do the same thing. Up in the higher atmosphere at ~50km where Venus' atmosphere is at 1 bar, like Earth's, its temperature is similar to Earth's. But it's still almost all CO2 at 50km.

Blogger Cataline Sergius October 23, 2014 4:36 PM

Based on actual conversations, I can't be bothered to dig up.

SJW Undergrad: Computer models prove anthropogenic global warming

Cataline: Can they tell me what the weather will be next week?

SJW Undergrad: It doesn't work like that, it's science.

Cataline: Okay what about next year? If these computer models can successfully predict what the weather will be in the next fifty years surely they can do it next for year. I'll sell my house and send the check to Neil degrasse Tyson, if they do that. How about it?

SJW Undergrad: Science hater!

Corvinus - Up in the higher atmosphere at ~50km where Venus' atmosphere is at 1 bar, like Earth's, its temperature is similar to Earth's. But it's still almost all CO2 at 50km.

Does this take into account the fact that Venus is about 25 million miles closer to the sun.

"Computer models prove anthropogenic global warming"

The only problems being that:

A) They don't prove anything, they predict
B) They only predict the past
C) They don't predict the past

1600ppm was what we had 15 million years ago. Coral was fine, the world was lush. That is the optimal level for plant growth as any pot grower knows is an actual science fact. More co2 means plants stressed for water and resources get a boost. More plants means more animals. A larger more sustainable biosphere makes for a better world. If we return to Eemian temperature levels and lose florida then it's a win-win. All it takes is another few hundred years of returning CO2 to the atmosphere from being locked away underground by our distant ancestor's envirocrimes.

Anonymous kh123 October 23, 2014 5:22 PM

Envirocrimes. That's pretty good. I can see that helping journos differentiate from ecoterrorist at a quick glance.

Anonymous rycamor October 23, 2014 5:24 PM

@MC Duquesne.

I'm with you as to the value of CO2 in the atmosphere, but what sorts of "envirocrimes" from our ancestors led to C02 being locked away (carbon sequestration)?

Anonymous Giraffe October 23, 2014 5:30 PM

20 years ago it was acid rain. Now we have to add sulfur to the fields because it doesn't fall from the sky any more.

Anonymous Anonymous October 23, 2014 5:35 PM

CO2 levels are ~1/5 the optimum level for plant growth.
Green house growers pump CO2 into their greenhouses.
I learned this from Patrick Moore--founder of Greenpeace who left the movement because it lies.

The Castro case (ca. 1988) was the first Big News! use of DNA "fingerprinting" to convict a person of murder in the USA. DNA fingerprinting uses a Western blot test to generate faint bands of radioactive material in a jello-like material to fog a photographic plate. The scientists testified that there was a one-in-6-billion chance that Castro was not the killer since several of his fuzzy bands were the same location as the fuzzy bands produced from DNA found at the crime scene.

But someone noted that his fuzzy black bands might have been a little offset from the bands found in the evidence. "How do you decide that they are the same bands--that the are at the same exact location? And the criminologists responded that they took a vote of the lab techs. If two out of the three lab techs thought all the bands were in the same location, then the bands matched. So, based on a two-out-of-three vote, the "scientists" testified that there was a one-in-six-billion chance that they found the wrong guy. It's not blurry vision. It's not politics. It's not pressure from your boss to "get the damn report out tonight!" It's science! Human error, tiredness, greed, shame, guilt, a promotion, none of it matters when "Science!" is involved.

Castro was sprung on appeal.

BigBill--

And every few years there is a new lab scandal, where lab workers falsify test results, and Courts are forced to nominally re-open cases.

All of this stuff is all a cash factory, nothing more. Several years ago I fought and fought and fought a speeding ticket using basic 4th grade math. The speed they claim I was going was mathematically impossible based on the distances show in the photos that they had of my vehicle. The distance covered by measuring and calculating my actual speed showed me going precisely the speed limit, while their own scientifically calibrated machine determined I was going 7MPH faster.

The case was only finally dismissed moments before a discovery hearing where I asked for the source code, and provided credentials and statements showing I could read it - for the systems that calculated the apparent speed of vehicles. Phone calls were made the prosecutor (who swore he would never lose to me again) dropped the case.

It's all corruption, all the way down. Most prosecutors could not make an honest case if they had. In Massachusetts, it turns out their state crime lab had a system of markings that the police used to determine how they "needed" a result to come back. Friendly defendant and you don't want a match on a fiber or blood sample? No problem. Need probably cause for a new warrant? No problem.

It's turtles, all the way down.

The Global Warming shtick carries numerous advantages-- economic, political, etc. But it is sold chiefly as an encouragement for people to disbelieve in God, and instead believe in Science, meaning this world and its systems. Scripture says God controls the elements; the GW crowd want Man (i.e., themselves) to take over that chore.

Phenomena controlled by the Lord or his servants can conveniently be propagandized as part of GW. Always a scientific explanation for the finding. If God split the Red Sea there Al Gore would be, bloviating about industrial pollutants.

I think it's commandment #5 from the Progressives' Ten Commandments...

5. Honor, worship and sacrifice for that which is deemed to be settled science, and the leftist priesthood thereof. Science is the preeminant tool of unstoppable leftist progress; Darwinism/evolutionism is settled science; AGW is settled science. Science is concensus science and concensus science is settled science which must never be questioned.

Blogger Doorstop October 24, 2014 3:08 AM

Amen, Ray. Modern leftists are little more than pagan mother earth goddess worshipers, whose religious tenants including the sacrificing of unborn infants and also humans in developing ("third-world") countries on the alter of Molech to prevent over-population...a fertility cult concerned with the propagation of all species except the "virus" they consider humanity to be. Gaia and Moral Relativism are just another form of Pantheism. And yet they have the gall to look down Christians and Jews for believing in what the "enlightened" consider to be a vengeful, capricious, genocidal, Old-Testament God...but they're surprisingly quiet when one of their own crackpots like Danny Glover says that the Haitian earthquake that killed 200k plus people was our planet's wake-up call for Global Warming. If the Haitians have to die for the "sins" of Americans, Europeans, and Chinese, then by leftist's own arguments, theirs is a god worth ignoring.

BigBill--

And every few years there is a new lab scandal, where lab workers falsify test results, and Courts are forced to nominally re-open cases.

Back in 2003 I was head juror on a 5-week murder trial (re-opened from 1998) where the whole case hinged on "scientific" evidence and computers. Whenever those two get together, the chances of shenanigans go up. They had collected some fingerprints from duct tape around a murder victim--after the cops on scene had botched the evidence horribly by mushing it up into a ball and stuffing it in the evidence bag (!). The technique required feezing and carefully separating all the piece of duct tape, then dusting for fingerprint fragments and then assembling them together and enhancing via crime lab software.

It turns out that this "crime lab software" was literally nothing more than Photoshop with a little note-taking widget added to the menu. It did not track what you did, it did not restrict what filters or brushes you applied... it literally did nothing but let you enter some notes to "log" your activity. If it hadn't been for my explaining the nature of this software to the rest of the computer-illiterate jury, they would have accepted this as evidence. It is just somehow assumed that "computers" magically make more likely to be correct, when the opposite is the case.
