#GamerGate is doomed... again

This may or may not be genuine, but it is supposed to be a note from Gawker Media's Nick Denton. [UPDATE: despite the overly dramatic language, it is confirmed to be real.] I'm a little skeptical, but it is in line with SJW entryist tactics as well as some of the recent attempts at "tone-policing" we've seen - and ignored - within #GamerGate. And then there is this:

8chan.co @infinitechan
#GamerGate has no leaders, so you don't have to trust me. I don't confirm things lightly: what @Kingofpol has is 100% true.

In any event, this was supposedly leaked directly from a source at Gawker:
First and foremost I would like to say "Thank You!" to myself and for those who are more than willing to accept a bit of financial compensation in exchange for causing a disruption. I couldn't have done it without you and I appreciate all your hard work.

For those of you that might be quite puzzled at the moment I will clarify. As you may have noticed over the last couple months. there has been a
group of individuals eager to ruin my business endeavors at every turn for the sake of "ethics". I would go as far as to use their preferred banner name. but afler the work of my new colleagues. I don't see it continuing on much longer. Yes. the circus will finally be leaving town and business will continue as usual.

Over the past few weeks I had tasked my employees for finding a means to destroy that which has been rather resilient. You cannot simply "attack" their leader when they have none. nor could you shun the group as a whole without them using their rainbow coalition to mitigate any claims. Fortunately for myself. I figured it out. I found a way to, as they would put it, "Kill the Batman".

It was there all along and oh so very simple. infiltrate the group and kill
them from the inside. The media parade that has been going on for weeks
now hasn't done anything worth a damn. Time and effort thrown out the
window with needless articles over this shit show. None of it has made a damn bit of difference until now. Everyone is eager to throw themselves at mainstream outlets. but none of them are eager to spend the money they are already using to fix this problem the right way. So I had someone send out feelers looking for people to work on a "special project" for me. Those that made it through screening have been taking part in an effort to police the group from the inside, causing a wedge to be driven amongst them. Today serves as evidence of money well spent. they have begun to crack and their influential people are beginning to part ways with the group.

Eventually there will be such a small minority that it will just blow over and nobody will care.

It feels good and I am proud of myself. I am slaying a giant and there is
nothing they can do about it. How does one separate themselves from
people claiming to be "doing what is right for the group" by tone policing? You can't and it will continue to be the dagger that kills this silly group of entitled brats.
-N. Denton
I'm sort of curious who are supposed to be these "influential people" who are beginning to part ways with #GamerGate. From what I've seen, more people than ever are lining up behind it as it becomes increasingly obvious that #GamerGate is not about harassing women given the fact that there hasn't been any harassment beyond that supposedly directed at LW1, LW2, and LWu back in August.

#GamerGate concerns one thing and one thing only. People designing, developing, and playing the games they want to design, develop, and play. Everything else flows from that.

The thing is, it doesn't actually matter if this is fake, real, or a real plant meant to sow discord. The lesson for #GamerGate is the same. Ignore the moderates, ignore the placators, ignore the tone-police, and keep doing what you're doing. The only thing a 4GW organization has to do in order to keep succeeding is a) don't stop, and, b) don't centralize.

It's their own tactics used against them if it is other than genuine. If it's real, then it's still their tactics. The message is the same either way.

My bet is on it's real. It smacks of social justice wabbitism.

Meh, he's a rabbit, so he thinks like a rabbit and thinks everybody else does too. He think's he's making the warren stampede, whereas it's more like he's knocking over an anthill. He just doesn't realize that, because he's incapable of non-rabbit thought.

Anonymous Athor Pel November 04, 2014 12:21 PM

How can you infiltrate and direct a movement that doesn't have a defined leadership?

Anonymous Aufhebend November 04, 2014 12:23 PM

The "influential people" are supposedly the bigger names who have been involved with #GamerGate, e.g. InternetAristocrat, KingofPol and Rogue Star Gamez. They did a live stream with some others a couple days back, and there were quite some drunken antics involved. Cue the concern trolls and handkerchief-clutching moderacists as they whined and opined about how it would make #GamerGate look bad and set a "bad example". Tempers flared, people got pissed, and InternetAristocrat and Rogue have gone on publicly to say that they would be stepping back from the hashtag. I guess you could also count in the calls for moderation by people who are assumed pro-GamerGate (e.g. TotalBiscuit and Boogie2298) as signs that the revolt is losing focus.

How this constitutes a victory, however, is unclear, but looking in the SJW Big Book of War, it makes sense. It probably goes:
1. Infiltrate and concern troll.
2. Disqualify and tone police.
3. Declare victory even when opponent is still standing.
4. Cry and whine because opponent is still standing.
5. Create boogieman out of opponent and make vague criticisms every once in a while.

Anonymous BluntForceTrauma November 04, 2014 12:23 PM

Off topic, but, you know, it could be said the Early Church was a textbook example of 4GW. They didn't stop and they didn't centralize. All that came later, after their enormous success.

Anonymous Crude November 04, 2014 12:29 PM

This seems like fantasy wannabe mind tricks written by someone who's overselling it.

'Money well spent'? 'Sow discord'? 'Slaying a giant'? He sent out "feelers" looking for a "special project" so he can "sow discord" and "slay the batman"?

Sure thing. What bullshit.

Anonymous Jack Amok November 04, 2014 12:34 PM

Ignore the moderates, ignore the placators, ignore the tone-police, and keep doing what you're doing.

If there's never been a band named The Tone Police, that would be a shame.

Say no to a man at the top
Jus keep doin', what you're doin'
Show 'em, you ain't gonna stop.

Yeah, it sounds like this is a guy whose amygdala has been freaked for weeks. Now, he's finally seeing one or two minor things stop freaking him out, and he's latching on to that to try and tell himself the tide is turning, and soon he will be king again. I'd take his glee over something nobody even noticed as a measure of how horrified he's been. It tells you that #GamerGate has been deep in his head. Again, given he's a rabbit, we can't imagine the pain.

Anonymous Minesweeper November 04, 2014 12:45 PM

This could be disinformation, a deliberate false-flag waving in order to get #gamergate participants viewing each other with suspicion. Might peel off a few moderates with this, but don't see how it can affect actual gamers.

It reminds me of the talking bad guy in many moves; "So, Mr. Hero, you did not realize that we had deep cover agents watching your every move? Mwuahahahahahahahah!".

If this claim is true, then the plants within #gamergate will reveal themselves, and they can join Zoe Quimm in the whore bin, or they won't reveal themselves and won't be effective. Either you're a gamer who wants gaming to be left alone, or you're a something-else that wants more meddling and SJWhoring in games. It's not difficult to tell the players apart even without a program.

@Aufhebend
One shouldn't discount the possibility that Denton has also hired some agents provocateurs to make the drunken antics which, on cue, brought in Denton's concern trolls. Concern trolls by themselves wouldn't be a problem, as they could be smacked down and evicted. The agents provocateurs, IMO, are actually far more of a problem than the concern trolls.

After all, why al-Qaeda in Iraq lost (temporarily) was because they turned off the Sunni Arabs due to their own extreme antics.

So keep your eyes peeled for agents provocateurs, boys. If someone you don't know acts overly and excessively GamerGate beyond reason, he may be a problem.

I have long suspected that this is the case with the "death threats" and "slut shaming", etc. It is right out of the playbook:

1. Report the offending posts to the media owner in hopes that (a) the post will be edited out and, (b) the offender will be banned.
2. Doxx the author of the offending post so that the offender will get the death threats, etc.
3. Report the offending post and offender to his employer to threaten the offenders livelihood.
4. When all else fails, cast aspersions on the offender's character to make it look like the offender is a "bad person".

We should not be surprised as in their minds the end justifies the means, and the end is to silence all opposition.

I couldn't even learn English at school. All this was considered to be capitalist evil and prohibited. You could hardly call me privileged. And you know what? I never blamed Americans for being luckier than me. I never wanted them to give me anything for free. I wanted to be like them! And here I am, making games, doing the stuff I always wanted. I never felt the need to blame anyone." - Daniel Vavra

If this document is legitimate and he did pay real money for an agent provacateur then Mr. Nick Denton doesn't know what he's doing.

When dealing with this kind of subterfuge you don't let anyone know what you are doing. You don't write this kind of thing down and you don't tell anyone about it. He effectively outed his own agent and the mission.

He used a paid agent not an ideological one. Paid agents only work for you as long as you pay them and only do what you pay them for.

When using a mole you should play a long game. You rarely if ever use them for short term gains. By outing his own agent he cut short their usefullness.

He needs some remedial help. There was a corporation in Eve that specialized in this kind of long term infiltration. It was named Guiding Hand Social Club. They actually knew what they were doing.

I am not certain, but I am pretty sure that no one has ever accused Nick Denton of being overly bright.

He may be bright. But one of the characteristics of SJWs, and leftist-collectivists of all stripes, is that that they allow emotion to overshadow intellect. And their emotions are ruled by how they want the world to be rather than how it is and has to be.

Anonymous Corvinus November 04, 2014 4:05 PM

In addition, it's easier for Badthinkers to pretend to be SJWs than for SJWs to pretend to be Badthinkers, primarily because rabbits have a warped idea of how we talk, think, and behave.

The mole who leaked Nikki's letter to 8chan surely knows SJW behavior down to a tee, and how to emulate it. Nikki's agents provocateurs, OTOH, are easily distinguished through their "drunken antics", since the rabbits really believe that we act like rageful losers living in our mom's basements (sort of how they characterize conservatives in general as inbred toothless hicks living in Arkansas).

The only way Nikki could completely neutralize #GamerGate is, as Vox pointed out, for #GamerGate to centralize, which would enable a mole to take control of the entire organization and kill it. But that ain't gonna happen.

Anonymous Noah B. November 04, 2014 4:06 PM

Whether his claim is true or not doesn't even matter. ND wrongly believes that the claim that "infiltrators are among you" is somehow going to instill panic. He fails to realize that detecting and responding to infiltrators is something we've had to deal with for quite a while now, and that we've addressed that problem by adopting dynamic, loosely organized groups that minimize the damage that can be done by infiltrators. A person saying things contrary to the purpose of Gamergate, and freedom in general, speaks only for himself and can quickly and easily be written off as just another SJW hack.

4GW is not a magic wand. Indeed, I think if that is what Lund is pushing in his book -- I plan to buy it from Castalia to find out -- he's all wet.

The essence of power is to put a lot of people, resources, and equipment in the field of battle. That's true for military affairs as it is political affairs. Look at the 4GW Tea Party. How well did they fare? Or anti-Open Borders. No leaders, and no power.

Victory does not always, all the time, go to the best organized, best able to project men, money, resources, and equipment, onto the contested ground. But that's the way the smart money bets because nine out of ten, that's the way things break.

#GamerGate is powerful because Gamers spend lots of money on gaming. And Intel CPUs. And games. And gaming rigs. And graphics cards. And the like.

Meanwhile, women, gays, and NAMs spend almost nothing on gaming, compared to straight White guys.

Intel could certainly side up with the women and gays and NAMs. That's their choice. But they know pretty well that they'd lose out on the Gaming community. Which has other choices. Including AMD. Which must be hoping Intel will side with Anita Sarkeesian. The same is true for NVIDIA, and say Rockstar or Microsoft.

There is not much money in Kim Kardashian's Mutant Butt Destroys the Mall. Or for that matter, Clash of the Clans. The Freemium model for the most part has not been something that offers anything like a franchise along the lines of Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and the like. Sure, lots of girls and gays play the Kardashian online game along with Angry Birds, but how much money do they spend at Intel, at NVIDIA, at Microsoft, at Sony, at Rockstar?

For once, Straight White guys are NOT backing down and using the power of their wallets to instill fear and thus RESPECT.

PC is a function of Women spending 85% (or influencing) consumer purchases. This is one area where that's irrelevant. So, defeat for the PC Diversity crowd.

But don't expect Vogue, Cosmo, the CW, or Lifetime to be anything but a White Beta Male loathing PC / Diversity terrain, because that's their audience: women and gays. Women are reliably hard-left innately, for biological reasons, when there is a Welfare Culture Sugar Daddy. Its more than just the Welfare state.

But no, resources, power, organization, that does not happen just on its own. There is a reason why PC has grown tremendously -- the female consumer terrain favors it and they've had leaders organizing and pushing for it while Straight White guys have played beta -dope for fifty years. Speaking as one who did that.

I don't think the Tea Party would qualify as 4GW. It had leaders, and it had a hierarchy. For most of its life, the leaders conducted a weekly conference call to which community and regional leaders dialed in. I would have characterized the Tea Party as a 3GW organization with grass roots leanings. But make no mistake: Tea Partiers were given a consistent message and marching orders from the top. It may be that the Tea Party did not start out that way, but that was the way it existed for most of its life.

Exactly.

The corruptors of all are tied to a model of seducing a powerful, unaccountable elite and allying with it against its own base. (After which the former leadership, having a diminished base, is also diminished, and is destroyed in turn.)

Deny them the super-weapon of an elite that can be bribed, blown, boosted and back-channeled into selling out, and they can't win.

Keep fighting relentlessly, without being swayed by placators of any kind, and they can't even avoid losing.

They are rotten fruit that has not fallen because the wind never blew hard and steadily against them. They have no integrity. They will not stand.

4GW is not a magic wand. Indeed, I think if that is what Lund is pushing in his book -- I plan to buy it from Castalia to find out -- he's all wet.

As far as I've read, Lund is not pushing 4GW as much as wondering how civilization can be saved from it.

But your comment betrays your misunderstanding. 4GW is precisely the case of numbers, organization, and resources being trumped by the lack thereof. The essence of 4GW is illustrated nicely by #GamerGate. You cannot behead it, for it has no leader. You cannot negotiate with it, for any individual you subvert is not only powerless to hijack the movement, but his subversion will galvanize the true believers.

Attacking it only spreads it further. The monopoly of the press only lends #GamerGate the moral high ground of the underdog.

The only way to defeat #GamerGate is to reclaim that high ground in the eyes of the gamers themselves. The only way to do that is to become their unquestionable advocate.

The antis can lose and Gamers win. Or they can win by giving their unconditional surrender, in which case Gamers win. If they could zip their lips, it might eventually blow over, an effective draw. But a hornets nest, once stirred, is swifter to sting even percieved invaders, and the Pinkshirts will try again. It's their reason for existence.

For the individual in question, I will be watching and waiting for you to slip up. Once you do and I am able to expose you for the rat you are, finding a new job will be the least of your worries.

Nobody rats on Boss Deton, you hear me? Nobody!

I can see the "Hostile Workplace" lawsuit forming up now... if there's anyone else with a financial stake in Gawker, they better find a way to either jeteson Denton or extract as much of their money as they can. He's in meltdown mode. Shocking, that someone in the media business would be so cluelessly bad at PR.

Anonymous Conservative must be right that Denton's brain has been thrown badly out of whack. He's not responding the way a person capable of putting Gawker together would under normal circumstances. Sure, it's not rocket science to start a liberal website, but it takes a little more self-control than he's showing here.

Doesn't surprise me at all. One constant I have witnessed is that most people in positions of influence tend to be incompetent morons. I think t'was always so but their lessers used to work hard to cover up the worst of it.
Now, they have replaced most actual workers with cronies and we see the reality of it more and more often.

Very often, yes, but two things don't quite fit here.

One, the person who founds a (more-or-less) successful outfit is usually not incompetent. The Ivy Leaguer who takes over from the founder is likely an idiot of the first water, but he has to come along later - he'd never have made it work himself. It takes some brains and some future-oriented thinking to build a business, even one based on writing trashy crap like most of Gawker Media.

Two, his business is based on writing trashy crap, usually about people who screw up in public. You'd think he'd know to keep his own trap shut in public, even if he was a moron about everything else.

Possibly Denton was a high-functioning basket case and some amount of recent stress (or maybe just being too full of himself and thinking he's a bigger fish than he really is) flipped his bit. Remeber, Kotaku is one of Gawker's sites, and it was their writer who's Quinn Pro Quo kicked off the recent hulabaloo.

Usually being the operative word - even then I think it is less so than in the past. Previously, to get an idea to a functioning business would have required some kind of work. Nowadays, everything is for hire and the idea can quickly be outsourced if you have the money and connections, even the hiring of lackies can be handed over.

I see it like this:
Bitchy, second-rate socialite spends time bitching about people to his fawning clique. At one cocktail party, one of the hangers on says, "You should totes put this gossip on the internet darling. People will luuuurv it."
A second one chimes in, "Yeah, I know this guy who runs a company doing internet stuff in India. I'll give you his number..."
"Here, I'll do that for you," offers a third sycophant and poof! Gwaker Media is born.

The fact that the founder shares the same gutter taste as the majority was a coincidence. At cocktail parties around the world similar websites on "Clothes for cats", "Photos of Vagina", and "Art made from shit" are born and die on the vine because they don't coincide with the lowest common denominator.

1. Find out who Denton paid off
2. Offer them MORE money to join our side
3. His paid thugs become ours

that is how we 4G in Iraq, baby

Don't know if anyone's seen this yet but...

Apparently the FBI are very much aware that two of the most notorious anti-GG figures (I'm betting Zoe Quinn's one of 'em) really did send themselves the death threats they blamed on #GamerGate.

As they say, busted.

weather loon OT,
so, we're getting forecasts that we're going to have a mild, dry winter and no polar vortex this year
http://energyblog.nationalgeographic.com/2014/10/07/u-s-heating-bills-expected-to-shrink-with-milder-2014-15-winter/

how is that working out? welp, i made a delivery to WI last week, transiting Chicago through that nasty storm. here's what i heard on the news:
first recorded September snowfall -
in Rockford since the 1930s
ever recorded in Chicago
extensive lake effect coverage across NW Indiana / SW Michigan

hotay.

we could still have a 'mild, dry' winter despite this lousy start ... you want to put money on it?

Nowadays, everything is for hire and the idea can quickly be outsourced if you have the money and connections, even the hiring of lackies can be handed over.

That's true, I was thinking of the team-building needs of a business, but you're right that today that doesn't need to be in-person so much unless you're starting on a shoestring (and how big of a staff do you need for a webstie anyway). He did start a couple of successful companies before Gawker, but those were a) during the dot.com bubble and b) he had partners. The partners may have been the sane ones.

Or perhaps Denton is just another rabbit who minds hs ps and qs when he's one of the masses and unleashes his inner bitch as soon as he gets a little money and power.

But ultimately it all comes back to Gawker being very very ripe for a black knighting operation. An openly gay man pushing 50 who's been freely making threats and hiring spies and monkeywrenchers. And it wouldn't surprise me to find the books doctored worse than Joan Rivers. Discovery for the suits could be interesting.

Someone should print that out and staple gun it to McRapey's skull, yes it is about ethics in journalism doughboy.

Off topic, but, you know, it could be said the Early Church was a textbook example of 4GW. They didn't stop and they didn't centralize. All that came later, after their enormous success.

And that centralization is what lead to the tyrrany of popes selling indulgences, praying to statues and dead men, "holy relics," clergy overrun with homosexuals, etc.

"Disregard that, I suck cocks"

That's been going on since the 1980's if not earlier... when anyone would foolishly walk away from a logged-in computer terminal, his buddies might send out email(s) containing that or a similar message.

Interesting. Remember summer of 2013, the "Writers GAWKING At Vox" troll?
