112 ??!!I say!! I'm on the war path

If you had told me in 2012 that I'd have the pleasure of anticipating Brady-Manning in November 2014, I would have taken the offer. I'm going to enjoy this one, especially because it doesn't even feel like "one last go-round." Both of them have already hit their skill drop-off...and it doesn't even matter. Their experience is still in the late sharpening phase.

> Their experience is still in the late sharpening phase.

As the Sports Guy pointed out, the rule changes have helped them stay in the game this long. But at what cost?

Blogger Nate November 02, 2014 12:04 PM

oh man... this was the worst week of my FFL career... no question. Set up to be a great week in terms of matchups... and literally every player choked.

Blogger Unknown November 02, 2014 12:34 PM

Nate I'll do my best to keep you choking this week

As the Sports Guy pointed out, the rule changes have helped them stay in the game this long.

The cost is that people need to stop looking at who is in Canton for guidance on who should be in Canton. At least if the purpose of Canton is to honor those that are the best at their position in a given Era rather than just those that can put up stats.

So for example, neither Drew Brees nor Aaron Rodger should be considered without the 2nd SB win unless they are going to throw up more TDs than Peyton.

And then over in the RB department, you have to seriously look at Steve Jackson and his 15k yards from Scrimmage entirely in the QB protected era (2004+) and go huh... maybe that is something special.

Gonna echo Trestman. Best thing going for the Bears right now is they are on bye. Its hard to watch them. Its not like Jax or Oakland where they just aren't capable of great things. Its that they have all the pieces for a complete game, but somehow can't get all 3 phases to show up in a given week.

Given the utter lack of discipline I would swear the Bears hired Jim Schwartz

Will, I hear you for a bit, but no Brees or Rogers? That's a laugh. New Orleans had won ONE playoff game in its entire history before Brees came. They have a Super Bowl win and several deep runs since. As for Rogers, that's just dumb.

Steven Jackson was the only option in STL for years so he of course got to carry it a lot. I've seen a dozen better runners over the last decade.

Wow, San Diego has been absolutely killed by injuries - and Dolphins.
But at least it's November, which means two things - no more goddamn pink and Global Warming™.

Well Rodgers needs more. You can't even consider a QB anymore unless he has 14-15 years as a starter. But his future looks bright.

The question with Brees is whether or not you can separate him from Brady and Manning. And I think you can until such time as he wins another SB.

I didn't watch a lot of Jackson so I can't speak to how well he deserves it past looking at his production. But RB's these days barely get 10 years, so if you are dominate for 6-7 and lead the league a couple times you separate yourself from the field pretty quickly these days. I will say when you are the only offensive weapon and you still produce, that tends to be a mark in your favor, not a against it.

Well the Vikes won. Against the deadskins, but a W nonetheless.

Blogger YIH November 02, 2014 4:26 PM

OT: BTW, finally got the captcha. At least it was the 'house number' one and not the damn 'wavy letter' one.

Blogger YIH November 02, 2014 5:10 PM

Seattle's having fun (as expected) such as a pick six.
It's almost like a bye week against the Oakland Tads.

Blogger Unknown November 02, 2014 5:22 PM

Will, Rogers does need more, but at his age its almost a certainty at this point. As for Brees, even if he is not in those two's class (top 5 all time), he is still almost certainly top 15 all time and that's more than enough to get in to a HOF with many more QBs than that.

For Jackson, there were the Bulger years where he was part of a decent offense. He never really dealt with a committee. Even when they stunk, it was hand the ball 30 times a game to him. Good runner, very durable, but below Tomlinson, Holmes, etc. Never better than third or fourth best in any year. Hard to make a solid case for him when clearly he isn't in thetop 50 range. Won absolutely nothing to boot.

Still should beat Nate this week, but Foster out is scary and LaFell and Brady have dropped two 12 pointers for me already.

Looks like Payton Manning (and Elway) are having those Super Bowl flashbacks again.

Blogger Unknown November 02, 2014 6:33 PM

I think I would go insane being a fan of a Manning led team. It's like having hot and heavy dreams but always waking up in a pool of one's sweat before the real action starts. lol

Think about it. He made UT awesome for four years but could never win the championship nor beat Florida even once.

In the pros he's been omnipresent forever but has one Super Bowl over Rex Grossman. He has a below 500 playoff record. Most weeks his teams roll and make you believe they are world beaters, but when they meet a prepared team or a high stakes game they fold.

I'm a Saints fan and I was convinced NO would lose to the Colts in that Super Bowl. No way that D holds Manning etc. NO just happy to be there... Nope, almost an easy win with a game capping Pick-6.

I feel bad for the fans of the Broncos and their inevitable AFCCG loss in Boston, if not to the visiting Bengals beforehand.

The Rams are a tough team to figure. Granted, the smart move is to play your division foes tough, but if you suck on the other ten games, what's the point?

Blogger WATYF November 02, 2014 7:13 PM

I cannot believe the Rams just won that game.

Once again, Colt McCoy is being passed over in favor of someone flashier ... and .. the Redskins lose.

Not that I am a Skins fan.

In other news, last week could not have been worse. Every player choked. This week .. not so much. Looking like a possible record point week for my FFL team.

As the Sports Guy pointed out, the rule changes have helped them stay in the game this long. But at what cost?

Same cost as any rule change: the opportunity of not having to change the rule in the future once the league gets sick of the new status quo.

Blogger Simon Jester November 03, 2014 10:24 PM

I'll go ahead and say it, even though it is only the third quarter.... I AM OFF THE SNIDE.

1-8. Go Clerical Errs!!!!
