Kinetic cards and verse music

Per my recent suggestion, various Ilk have been getting in touch with me about their projects. If you're interested in helping out with any of these, don't hesitate to contact the relevant individuals. One is what looks like a pretty interesting game project:
Legion 13 Games (L13G) is a small independent game design studio in Austin, TX, looking for 8 volunteer players to help us demo our new game product, NetWar: The First Connection. NetWar is a hybrid between a card game and a board game — what we at the studio call a Kinetic Card Game — and is making its first public appearance in December.

The first demo games will happen on Saturday, December 20, 2014, from noon to 4:00 PM at the Dragon's Lair in Austin, TX. During the demo we will also have a Q&A with anyone who is not playing but interested in the game.

If you want to volunteer for one of the 8 spots, please send your name, age, and a short gamer bio to support(at) Players age 13+ are preferred. Spots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Volunteers will receive a more detailed description of the game, the demo event, and the game manual in a PDF format ahead of time. L13G appreciates your time and interest, and will provide a special freebie to all volunteer players.

To get involved as a non-player, just show up at the event, watch the games in action, and ask a lot of questions. For more information about L13G and NetWar, visit our website:
The Responsible Puppet alerts us to the fact that the new Fighter Verse is out:

This CD contains 39 helpful and encouraging songs – passages from fourteen books of the Bible.
Featuring the talents of 35 musicians (adults and children), the musical styles are varied, including folk, jazz, pop, blue grass, doo-wop, string quartet and even Gregorian chant. The arrangements are designed so that you will enjoy listening to them and will learn the songs quickly and easily.

Here are some of the familiar passages on this CD: “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6) — The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) — Unless the Lord builds the house those who build it labor in vein (Psalm 127:1) — “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25-26) — Fear not, for I am with you (Isaiah 41:10) — “My Sheep hear my voice and I know them” (John 10:27-30).

Click on the link above to find links to iTunes, Amazon, and a bluegrass video. I like the logo; it reminds me a little of the Eternal Warriors logo, sans sword and angel.

I haven't forgotten about the Life Design stuff, but with everything that's been going on with regards to the books, games, and other work, I've had to push that back to January. So, enjoy the holidays and we'll delve into that in the new year.

This is Hilarious
The best thing to come out of #GamerGate by far! I can confirm its not real people taking the piss, this is really what they think. Quick get the testosterone! My side!

@Shut Up: Yuck, reminds me of the gamma rabbit picture.

They are really bad at co-opting things.

While the SJWs are busy tearing down civilization, it is good to know the Ilk is building one another up. Great way to start out the morning.

Blogger D.J. December 05, 2014 9:15 AM

Well, this is nice. Especially since I'm in the suburbs of Austin. Thanks, Vox!

That logo looks awesome, and the linked song is pretty good.

This should be a good time...

Soooo, I was reading Shedd's Dogmatic Theory, Vol. 2. As Calvinist a book as they come, from about a hundred years ago. I came across with these quotes:

Thus in creating a rational spirit, God creates a self-moving essence, and this is a self-determining will.
(...and later...)
It follows from this, that the power to the contrary, or of antagonistic action, is not necessary in order to the freedom of the will. Simple self-determination, without the additional power to antagonize the existing self-determination, is enough to constitute voluntariness.

Now, the book is careful enough to list all the contrary views on anything. With regards to the human soul, for example, the pre-existence theory is addressed, even though it has universally been considered at least heterodox in Christian history. But this is said as if it were uncontroversial. Hence, Calvinists believe that the human soul is non-deterministic.

In short, I'm right and the rest of Team Calvin is wrong.

Thanks, Vox!

Obviously Nate can have a free copy (as always) but I should warn him - one track has 40 seconds of drum machine (yes, I timed it) and he's on record as comparing the usage of that musical tool with ... rather dark activities.

Well now they'll definitely burn you at the stake...

Blogger Markku December 05, 2014 10:54 AM

Or, to bring it more to a point, Jamsco is not a puppet in ANY meaningful sense, responsible or otherwise, if he still wants to call himself Calvinist or Reformed.

Or at least feed me a diet of worms.

Markku: " Jamsco is not a puppet in ANY meaningful sense, responsible or otherwise"

Well, Darn - I'll have to change the name of my blog.

Markku, please let me know if you want a free cd.

Anonymous Stickwick December 05, 2014 11:01 AM

Just FYI, Legion 13 is my husband's game company. I'll be at the demo event, so if any Central Texas Ilk want to come and say hi, it'd be great to see you.

Blogger Markku December 05, 2014 11:05 AM

Well, sure, but it might cost you more than usual to send it to Finland, and I never use physical CD's, but immediately rip them to my hard drive. So, if you have any alternative means of digital delivery, then that would make more sense.

Anonymous jamsco December 05, 2014 11:30 AM

Markku, can you sent me an email? I think I lost yours.

Blogger Josh December 05, 2014 11:32 AM

Jamsco, have y'all approached lifeway or a Christian media group about distribution?

Anonymous jamsco December 05, 2014 11:49 AM

Josh, I haven't - what would they do?

Blogger D.J. December 05, 2014 2:51 PM

@Stickwick: I'm now signed up for 12/20 at Dragon's Lair.

Blogger Markku December 05, 2014 4:03 PM

Here's the marketing thing, though. I was actually aware of these Fighter Verses much before I ever knew there was a "Jamsco". And thought they were an absolutely excellent idea.

However, these things require at least a few sentences of motivation behind them. Typically delivered by John Piper. So, the marketing challenge is, how to deliver it to the prospective customer. Because without that, just telling him about the CD's is pretty much useless.

Anonymous Stickwick December 05, 2014 4:08 PM

Cool, D.J. See you there!

Blogger Markku December 05, 2014 4:12 PM

Jamsco: Just send it to

That's always going to be forwarded to a mailbox I read.

Blogger Markku December 05, 2014 5:01 PM

But alas! Jamsco obviously was at liberty to deliver some marketing talk in this very post, and yet completely failed to get to the point.

I suppose that's why John was the pastor for preaching....

Anonymous Aeoli Pera December 05, 2014 5:14 PM

Aha! I was looking for an extra secret Santa gift. Fighter Verse may fit the bill, will have to look into it.

Something is wrong with these people. VERY wrong.

This seems to be their only real coping mechanism. Fight, flight, or freeze, minus amygdala, equals flight, freeze, or wretched self-abasement.

Anonymous Difster December 05, 2014 6:05 PM

What other Ilk are in Austin? I know of a few. I think Central Texas has the largest concentration of Ilk in the world.

Anonymous Kiwi the Geek December 05, 2014 11:55 PM

How do Ilk get a free CD? Or is it only the high-status Ilk?

Blogger Markku December 06, 2014 11:58 PM

Well, this is a Bethlehem Baptist Church -project, not a Vox Popoli -project. I guess you have to have relations, in good or ill, with them.

But relations with one of their representatives on this forum will certainly help....

Anonymous Kiwi the Geek December 07, 2014 4:58 PM

Relations with Bethlehem Baptist... I've listened to some of John Piper's sermons? Okay, that's a stretch.

Relations with a representative on this forum... I've participated in the same discussion sometimes, but I don't say much anymore.

Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Anonymous jamsco December 08, 2014 1:10 AM

Kiwi, go to the blog post linked in Vox's post, find my email address and send an email to me - I'll get you a cd.
