Mr. Hobbes has the answer

When a suspension simply isn't enough:
Heather Cook, the first female bishop of the Episcopal Church in Maryland, has been suspended following a hit-and-run accident on Saturday in which she reportedly hit a bicyclist on Roland Avenue.  The bicyclist, Thomas Palermo, later died at the hospital.

According to a report from Baltimore television station WBAL, the motorist left the scene of the accident, but then returned a short time later.  Her car was heavily damaged, with a hole in the windshield on the passenger side.  The bicycle was destroyed.

Cook, 58, was elected in May 2014 as Bishop Suffragan, second in command in the Maryland Episcopal Diocese, under Bishop Eugene Sutton.
It's just like the Good Samaritan. Only the complete opposite. It's an interesting twist on Hultgreen-Curie Syndrome, however. Usually female firsts kill themselves, not others.

When you allow spiritual frauds in the church, this is to be expected. Times of trial reveal everything in one's character.

Times of crisis reveal the inner character. After a few minutes reflection, she realized that there was absolutely no way that she would be able to hide the damage to her vehicle, and that there was probably evidence that she did it, so she, reluctantly, returned to the scene to avoid the worse consequences.

But since she's a girl, I'm sure she'll get away with it. They're rarely ever held to full accountability.

Was she suspended with pay?

Blogger Owen December 30, 2014 9:50 AM

The two drug charges – possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia – were dropped in January 2012 by the Caroline County state’s attorney’s office, online records show.

She earlier pleaded guilty to the DUI charge and received “probation before judgement” with a $800 fine, $500 of which was suspended.

The Bible should really outline the characteristics and expectations of church leaders.

Love the weasel words from the church:

I am distressed to announce that Bishop Heather E. Cook was involved in a traffic accident Saturday afternoon, Dec 27, that resulted in the death of a bicyclist, Thomas Palermo, 41.
...
Several news agencies have reported this as a ‘hit and run.’ Bishop Cook did leave the scene initially, but returned after about 20 minutes to take responsibility for her actions.

"Resulted in the death"

"Scare quotes" for hit and run, because we all know it's the media hyping the facts that she hit...then ran.

I wonder if the man would've survived had she stopped immediately, called 911, and prayed.

Eye witness account:

"I was one of the first to arrive at the incident - returning from a ride up Lake ave and onto Roland. Calls were immediately made to 911. I checked Mr. Palermo several times for a pulse and to check breathing - to no avail.

Remained at the scene until it was secured by the police and walked my bike across the median strip to thank one of the gentlemen who was early at the scene. He was in a conversation with another biker and they immediately indicated that they believe the car that hit Mr. Palermo had just driven past. They had the make and model but not the license.

Immediately I rode in the direction they had indicated and caught the car at the light at Lake. There was no question in my mind after viewing the damaged windshield that this was the car. I asked the driver if she was all right as the light changed and she drove straight ahead down the road that dead ends at Elkridge Estates a gated apartment complex with a gatehouse guard and swinging gates to stop traffic in and out.

I was able to get the first 4 numbers of the plate and immediately went after her. I was stopped by the guard and indicated that there had been a potentially fatal hit-and-run and I believed the car with the smashed windshield was involved and needed to find it. A postal service delivery man assisted me with directions and he also helped.

In attempting to ride down the apt road closest go the gatehouse I was stopped by the security guard who said I could not be riding in the complex and that the car has just left the complex. She had not stopped the car nor gotten the license number so I rode back up the hill to the light at Lake and saw the driver talking to a policeman. I rode up to them and, without anything else to say thanked her for returning to the scene.

She went back because she was chased down and realized she'd be caught. She probably dropped off her bag of weed before returning.

The Subaru, the Beetle, and the Holy Prius. It's a leftist automotive trinity. Meanwhile, it isn't just the Episcopalians who have problems. Presbyterians are attacking Israel economically for the sake of Philistines. The new Catholic Pope believes in socialism and global warming...can official approval of homosexuality be far behind? These "I think I'll return to the scene of the crime" hit and run offenders don't always get off Scot-free.

I was on a jury in Chattanooga deciding a civil suit for a three way auto accident in which everyone was suing everyone else. One of the women involved had driven away from the scene, but realized, as in this case, that the damage to her car, and the probability that someone has gotten her plate number was too great for her to get away with it.

We absolutely threw the book at her, giving the other two parties four times what they had been asking.

I hope this piece of crap of a human being bishop spends the next several decades in the slammer. Its too bad they don't have chain gangs any more for garbage like this.

It's just like the Good Samaritan. Only the complete opposite.

Exactly like the Good Samaritan. The priest is playing the role of robber AND priest.

"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side."

And from Owen's eyewitness account, I think we have found the Good Samaritan as well.

Blogger Owen December 30, 2014 12:38 PM

A sign of the times. Red Tape versus the Good Samaritan with all the legalese, it's growing difficult to do the right thing when you know doing nothing is the only action that can't be held against you in court.

Our lawyers are creating a society of do-nothing wimps, complicit in the doing of evil because they are afraid to do anything. They are being trained that way K-12, in college, and in the workplace.

Well...a priest is supposed to help save souls (eternal life) right? So this kind of makes sense, female priest...BAM! You dead. We can only hope her typically shallow understanding means the poor man's soul is safe and did not meet with any of her "guidance", which undoubtedly is making the soul-counter in hell tick over at a steady pace.

Apropos of nothing in particular:

Society is a dimensional lattice of interconnected feedback loops, some of them stable, some unstable, some of them artificial, some of them natural, and many combinations thereof. The simplistic polarities that mostly overwhelm our thinking, are themselves sustained by one or more such underlying feedbacks.

You know, that so-called bishop looks exactly the way I imagined before seeing her pic, in fact exactly the way all such insufferable, forced saccharine kumbaya smiles hiding their sins as they worship the almighty State, while pretending it's God. And because they don't really glorify Christ in their hearts, behavior such as she exhibits is predictable. No doubt both the court system and her flock will sooner than later let her off the hook, because she will prattle off the de riguer leftist lexicon of since-my-politics-is-correct-in-my-head-then-my-actions-dont-matter.

"Karla Sanchez San Martin, one of Mexico's few female bullfighters, vowed Tuesday to return to the ring by mid-January, two days after she and several others were gored by what she said was a "very smart" bull.

The 26-year-old bullfighter, who fights under the stage name of "Karla de los Angeles," suffered a pair of gashes to the thigh and buttock when she was gored twice by the 495-kilogram (1,090-pound) bull Gamusino.

The point of this statement being what? That contrary to recorded history, there was not a high fatality rate in the first male airplane pilots and astronauts? Or that Anne Sullivan somehow killed a lot of people that we didn't know about?

Blogger Owen December 31, 2014 8:26 AM

That contrary to recorded history, there was not a high fatality rate in the first male airplane pilots and astronauts?

I think you're making a false comparison.

The pioneers of any venture take the most risk, to be sure, and it can be dangerous.

However, the women Vox talks about pursue established fields with many safeguards (hard learned) in place and many kinks worked out.

Your comparison would be more accurate if you compared the accident/death rate of the first pilots (male) with some daring venture achieved by women first. Maybe you could research the injury and fatality rate of donkey shows or 100+ mate gang-bangs.

Anonymous Don December 31, 2014 12:08 PM

Well Moreliar, are you saying that we should re-engineer aircraft carriers and aircraft for women to make them easier for women to learn to use them? Or that women are incapable of learning the lessons of decades that men learned before them? If women are pioneers merely for their sex shouldn't we laud them for using a men's restroom? It's a place they haven't gone before (usually).
