Coaching craziness
Rex in with the Bills, Fox out with the Broncos, most open positions still unfilled... I wonder if Peyton Manning will retire as quarterback and take the OC position under Adam Gase as the Denver head coach?

If Manning is retiring, why haven't the Broncos already drafted his replacement?
Well the problem with having Peyton Manning as your QB is you get a pretty crappy draft position. The Colts did it the right way.
The Chicago sports media jizzed their collective pants over the Fox firing.
Personally, I think Fox would be a horrible hire at HC. He will no doubt build a respectable team that will compete most years, but like Jeff Fisher or Lovie Smith he won't hoist a Lombardi trophy.
Peyton Manning wil wind up with the DC Perpetual Losers (formerly the Redskins).
Tebow needs to be signed by someone. Do you want to win?

OT: 8chan down again - the top level domain has been pulled
12-4 and a pink slip? Holy shit.
Didn't SD fire Marty after 14-2?
I was never a huge Fox fan, but he's far from the worst HC in the league. I just want to see as many open positions filled ASAP though so there's fewer teams trying to poach Quinn from us.
Big Dic forced out in Pittsburgh... though not unjustified, clearly poor judgment was used in keeping Troy and Ike Taylor in there while some real talent was sitting on the bench.
> I was never a huge Fox fan, but he's far from the worst HC in the league.
He took two teams to the big game. It's really hard to argue with that.
Big Dic is rumored to be going to Arizona when some other team elevates Bowles to a HC.
Everybody and their mother in Chicago sports media is pushing this Fox thing. I hope they don't force it down our poor new GM's throat.
Fox may be a competent coach, but he doesn't know when to bet it all. Would rather take a chance on an unknown quantity.
In other news, I love the preplayoff debate on whether OSU deserved to be in it.
This is the worst college football season ever.

This is the worst college football season ever.
Based upon what reasonable metric?
Should Fox have been dismissed in Denver? Possibly. I would rather look at the Broncos' defense: loaded with pro-bowl, or potential pro-bowl, talent; and yet they are quite disfunctional as a unit. Defensive co-ordinator Jack Del Rio needs to go.

What we want are known as "spirals" by real QBs.

Tebow is a proven winner. Ridiculous that he is out of the league because of his "style" or whatever.
but like Jeff Fisher or Lovie Smith he won't hoist a Lombardi trophy
Fisher was only two yards away. To put him in a category with suck ass Lovie "Quotas" Smith is a joke.
greatest college football season to date I O
Fisher was only in that Super Bowl because he got away with the Music City Forward Lateral in the Wild Card round. Otherwise his best playoff showing was losing to the Raiders in the conference championships.
Fox is a nice enough guy, but having watched him continuously over several years and two different teams, patterns emerge. The man has no killer instinct and has a near inability to take risks. He rarely challenges a play unless he's almost 100% sure of the outcome. He tends to play 'not to lose' instead of driving a stake in close games and often ends up losing because of it. Certainly not the worst coach in the league though.
And he got away with the two subsequent wins that got him to the Super Bowl, wins that were against vastly superior opponents than the WC round, correct?
Two yards short. Lovie Smith indeed! What has he done again?
And it's hardly "cheating" by a team and coach when the rules are clearly defined and a penalty was not called. Try again.

His "style". Classic.
What he needs is a proven "spiral" and the tools to play QB in the NFL -
which he does not have, nor has he ever. His mechanics were left alone by Mullin and Meyer for their own sake and UF football, and it was good enough at that level. Hardly so for the next level. There is a plethora of film and former NfL QB's explaining Tebow as QB and his many, many deficiencies.
Lovie Smith got Peyton "the playoff choke artist" Manning his Super Bowl win. Without Lovie you could make the case that Manning doesn't deserve to be in the HoF.
Will Best : Is Dan Marino in the HOF? He went to 1 Super Bowl and lost. Never got close again, but he's considered elite because of his stats.

Seconded.
In the NFL to win you have to run the ball against the good teams. But owners and the useless twits in the media hype the superstar QBs and what you end up with is stats like Manning or Marino. IMO McCarthy is the best coach in football.
The Colts didn't do it right. They got lucky. It's not like an Andrew luck is available at the top of every draft. Like this year for example. Terrible draft for qbs.
> The Colts didn't do it right. They got lucky.
The speculation that the Colts would tank started after one game into the season. They may have been lucky that it was a good draft year, but they profited the old fashioned way, they earned it.
My vote is for Kubiak at Denver, but now we'll see if Elway has any real talent as a GM with the departure of Manning.
The timing was surely lucky, but the decision to choose him was doing it right.
Also, what you did there...I see it.
IMO McCarthy is the best coach in football.
I'd say Pete Carroll, but I guess we'll see this weekend. And I know some people just hate Carroll, but I don't really get why. I mean, I understand why Harbaugh and Darth Hoodie are hated, but Carroll?
The Colts didn't do it right. They got lucky.
The Colts are a mediocre team who happen to have Andrew Luck as their QB.
Elway: "There is a plethora of film and former NfL QB's explaining Tebow as QB and his many, many deficiencies."
Sports Science on Tebow's mechanics. Compare and contrast with Peyton Manning's mechanics.
Even retraining apparently wasn't sufficient to overcome years of muscle memory, and he would revert back to that old style unconsciously under the pressure of a game.
More time to throw generally means more sacks, too.
The Tebow haters remind me a lot of one of the great losers of all time --- Dominique Wilkins in Atlanta ... He sure could dunk in those losses!
Both the Seahawks coordinators are being looked at for head coaching positions. It'll be interesting to see how the Seahawks do next year without them. Especially when Russell Wilson gets paid big bucks for what he's done under the current crew.

Cap-wise, the Seahawks are mostly okay next year (though they'll continue to get thinner as far as depth and special teams go, unavoidable with the Cap). It's the year after that should get interesting. Next year we probably lose Bobby Maxwell and OBrien Schofield as cap casualties, but should be able to keep the rest of the main guys (though Lynch could flat out retire, who knows).
The year after that is when Wilson's paycheck will really start to bite.
