SJWs speak jabber whack

It doesn't matter if they are anti-Sad Puppies or anti-GamerGate, they are the same sort of liars who will say anything in order to try to discredit the other side. One "Cat", who may or may not be Cat Rambo, the vice-president of SFWA who recently announced her candidacy to lead the organization, has been running around sites ranging from Larry Correia's and the Mad Genius Club to Mike Glyer's File 770, trying to tell everyone she knows what Sad Puppies, and now #GamerGate, are really about. She's actually jabber-whacking about how Larry Correia's Book Bomb sold nearly 2,000 novellas and pretty much ensured that the Sad Puppies recommendations, if they are nominated, will be the most widely read nominees on the Hugo ballot.
To get bestseller status you have to start from somewhere and you are using the book bombs to give that start to certain stories that can’t get it on their own. Thus diddling with the bestseller lists, as I said. Meaning the Sad Puppies themselves know that bestseller is not simply a mark of quality.

As for the quality of the Sad Puppies noms, I read them all, and they ended up where they deserved, quality-wise. If “Opera Vita Aeterna” was the best the Sad Puppies had to offer, the Hugos have hardly been missing out on “quality” to this point. (Pro-tip: “quality” stories do not name the woman character after her chest. Not even if there is some marine with a similar nickname for deniability’s sake.)

I see what the Sad Puppies claim they are doing. I just don’t actually care; talk is cheap. Last year’s results make it pretty plain what they’re really doing.

I know what Gamergate is really about, because I pay attention to what they do and who they attack, and who they don’t. Attach Gamergate to your cause if you like being associated with rape and death threats against women who dare to speak about videogames. But in that case you probably shouldn’t get mad when someone points out what you have done.
(Pro-tip: There are no female characters in "Opera Vita Aeterna". Nor are there any Marines. As it happens, it is a fantasy novelette about a monastery. This tends to raise some serious doubts about Cat's ability to read, let alone accurately ascertain the quality of what she has nominally "read".) There were several responses, one of them mine.

You don’t know a damn thing about it, little Kitty-Cat. Because, if you did, you’d know that I am the Leader of #GamerGate and the link between #GamerGate and Sad Puppies is considerably more direct than you believe it to be. #GamerGate is Sad Puppies on nuclear steroids. Everything is bigger. Literally Who, Literally Who 2, and Literally Wu are scam artists that make John Scalzi look like a paragon of probity. And you don’t even know what the issues are.

But here is the similarity. GamerGaters declare we will play the games we want to play and make the games we want to make. If you don’t like that, go away and make your own games. Sound familiar?

Ravenshrike added:
You do realize that both the Goon Squad and the GNAA, the two biggest ‘professional’ troll organizations on the internet, have admitted to being active in q/ggate correct? As well the only death threat traced back to an actual person was traced back to a Brazilian clickbait journalist, basically another professional troll. So attempting to throw around guilt by association when I

1. am not active on twatter
2. Can process the fact that assholes on the internet lie about who they are and what they believe in on a regular basis
3. am not interested in bringing up similar arguments about MZB and SD
Being a typical SJW, Cat didn't have the sense to recant or retreat, but instead doubled-down:
Sorry guys, Gamergate got into the regular news. And now we all know it’s not about ethics in journalism, it’s about targeting women who dare to make games, or talk about games, with rape and death threats.
Ah, the "regular news". As in Brian Williams, the hero of Baghdad. I pointed out a few obvious facts, such as that Cat was not only a blatant liar, but her lies didn’t even make sense.
  1. Most of the “death threats” and “rape threats” were fake. They never happened.
  2. All of them happened months ago. Last fall. When was the last “rape and death threat”, Cat?
  3. GamerGate is an active group that consists of tens of thousands of individuals. Many of them are professional game developers like me. What has #GamerGate been doing for the last six months if there have only been a small handful of supposed threats last fall, most of them of dubious legitimacy?
  4. A number of game journalists, some of them influential, have lost their jobs. Joystiq closed. Gawker lost over a million dollars in ad revenue and “reassigned’ two of its top people. Do you think this is due to “rape and death threats”? Or serious problems concerning “ethics in journalism”?
  5. Several game journalism sites have adopted ethics guidelines. Do you think this just might have something to do with a little ethical problem in gaming journalism?
I was the second nationally syndicated game journalist in the USA. I have written for numerous leading game industry magazines, including Computer Gaming World, Electronic Entertainment, and Develop. And I can tell you, with 100 percent certainty, that in 2014 there was a MASSIVE ethics problem in game journalism. And there still is. Any serious game developer will readily tell you as much.

What are your game industry credentials? What are your game journalism credentials? What do you know about it beyond watching CSI Law and Order: SVU?

Isn't this giving oxygen to fools?
There's an old adage: 'nothing condemns like faint praise'. [or words to that effect].
Generally I think now of the left, SJW, starve them. All attention is wasted. What can't be won shouldn't be fed. Oxygen thieves, go your way: deep space and outer darkness.
One can't correct a fool and in the drama that's unfolding they serve no earthly purpose.

A new Department of Homeland Security intelligence assessment circulated this month focuses on the threat of right-wing sovereign citizen extremist groups in the U.S. Some law enforcement groups say the threat is equal to, and occasionally greater than, the threat from Islamic extremist groups.

The Homeland Security report, produced in coordination with the FBI, counts 24 violent sovereign citizen-related attacks across the U.S. since 2010, CNN reported Friday.

These types of extremists believe that they can ignore laws because those laws attack their individual rights, even in routine daily instances like a traffic stop or being required to obey a court order, CNN reported...

Surprisingly, Rainbow Cat-Woman is half right about GamerGate. No not the part about RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPE but that it is no longer about Gamer journalism ethics.

That was what it started out as and those problems are real enough.

Now, It's about SJW's enforcing cultural hegemony.

And of course constantly lying to do it because they have no idea how to do business any other way.

Blogger Student in Blue February 23, 2015 7:52 AM

Now, It's about SJW's enforcing cultural hegemony.

There was serious, frank talk about this way back in August. It didn't catch on until later because most of the people active in GG were the original lefty, "useful idiots" that have only now been waking up to the truth that MSM lies and the thought police (SJW) are never ever satisfied.

Those who have been paying attention knew from the beginning that it's about a group of nutjobs trying to enforce their utopia by any means necessary, because this problem has been on a slow burn and a lot of people just haven't noticed until GG.

Nope. They believe that the penalties imposed by the law aren't enough to justify obeying the law. That's a call every person has to make concerning the numerous "laws" passed by various branches/levels of government and regulatory agencies.

Cat is kind of obsessive - she has been showing up anywhere the Sad Puppies are discussed to pitch in her two cents. She showed up on the personal blog of a friend of mine, not a widely read blog at all, just because he mentioned them, and not even as a supporter, but in a "Huh, this is interesting" kind of way.

I'm pretty sure she is not Cat Rambo, however, but Cat Faber.

So there isn't anyone named "Tits McGee" in the story after all, I'm so not reading it now.

Last September, while it was still in its infancy, my wife and I tried to explain GamerGate to a good friend of mine who is very serious in the game industry.

I didn't even finish the explanation before he started ranting about the corruption in gaming journalism. At length.

Maybe she's confusing it with something. Big Boys Don't Cry? Monster Hunters? Redshirts?

I think today marks a significant step towards the day John Scalzi gets retro-roasted by the feminist crazies.

Amygdala successfully stimulated. Attempt to solve by out-grouping offensive parties - mission failed. Step away from directly confronting said parties and just try and spread the narrative - not only failed, but things like the book bomb and the obvious glee allow others to see the the 'right' group is itself in danger of being out-grouped.

But fortunately, the goal isn't *really* to do anything or settle any particular issue, it's to ease the badfeel. A victory is needed, doesn't matter where.

Enter John Scalzi. Cue logicjump: We don't need to be angry at (and then have to fight) the Vox Dragon, we can be angry at he that poked it and woke it up!

White male with gamma tendencies? Added bonus. Then it's a feminist troll back through every blog post, every book, finding everything that it turns out always offended them! I predict much dresses and blow job favors. Maybe big lawns are a historical reference to white men owning large tracts of land? Hmmm...

I think it'll require sad puppies winning a chunk of the slate for this to be a possibility *this* year. Otherwise they'll turn it around as a great victory over the dragon and this year, for real this time, for the nth time, HE WILL GO AWAY!!! But the levels of frantic are rising, and *someone* needs to be sacrificed so the rabbits can claim a victory.

"Diddling with the bestseller list?"

You mean "selling books?"

Does she know what the fundamental principle of the bookselling business is?

SJW: I thought you just wanted our awards...now you tell me you actually want to sell books? Goalposts!

Odd that this post immediately preceded the one on the rather deranged Donglegate accuser. That's almost Drudge-like juxtaposition, yet Cat has descended into that level of insanity.

Anonymous Alexander February 23, 2015 12:34 PM

Aren't they always 'not about politics' and about how it's just soooo important to 'get people reading'!

Surely they should be cheering Larry's book bombs. Because you know, literacy.

But they never, ever do. Their abhorrence over books being available to the masses - and even worse, books that the masses *want* being available to the masses - has always been very clear. I remember the bemoaning that cheap kindles would destroy libraries because everyone would have their own library...

Blogger Chris Gerrib February 23, 2015 12:42 PM

I remember a monk and an elf. Who was the chest-named woman? - she was in Torgersen's "The Exchange Officers." Alas for Cat, naming a chesty Marine after Chesty Puller is exactly the sort of humor you'd expect in the military.

Blogger MidKnight February 23, 2015 12:45 PM

@Alexander

of course - it's not the RIGHT lesson we're learning.

@Chris - yeah. That's exactly the kind of joke you'd expect. shows more about what she knows and how she looks at the world than what we know.

On the journalist side the problem is that most of the big name game journos have been in the industry too long.

The first problem here is that years of playing crappy and, worse, mediocre games for review and/or analysis have burned them out on the hobby. This results in them moving from generic liberalism to writing about extremist SJW stuff in a vain attempt to rekindle any kind of passion similar to what they felt in their teens and early 20s.

The second problem is that years of being game journos causes them to form too many friendships with developers and, worse again, PR people. Most people are much less objective than they claim when it comes to their friends.

I think the solution to the above for most people, unless they're there to move up the company ladder, is not staying in game journalism past their mid-20s.

It's funny how only drooling,paranoid,hormonally-imbalanced,leftist,dimwit,second-rate conspiracy fabulists can "hear" the "dog whistles".

I also wonder if this is like that "Klan hoodie" you guys saw on some New England university campus that turned out to e a drug-addled hippie walking around in the early morning hours with a blanket.

You're like the Mexicans who see the face of Jesus or the Virgin Mary in their french toast every other day.
