The SJW reader challenge

Larry Correia fisks Teapot Bradford's call to not read straight white male authors while Superversive SF takes her SJW reader challenge:
In the spirit of taking this challenge seriously, I will be making an effort to avoid such writers and see what it does for my outlook. So I guess I should make a list of authors that are “acceptable” to read because they aren’t “cis white het males” to make it easier for anybody that wants to join me.

So lets see what is in?

Sarah A. Hoyt – POC Womyn
    Larry Correia – POC
    L. Jagi Lamplighter – Womyn
    Kate Paulk – Womyn
    Amanda Green – Womyn
    Vox Day – POC

and out

John Scalzi – Cis Het White Male
Jim Hines – Cis Het White Male
It really is time that Native American literature finally found its place in fantasy and science fiction after all. It is, frankly, shocking how white women like Catherynne M. Valente are shamelessly appropriating our culture and our legends. I can only applaud Ms. Bradford for encouraging her readers and followers to read my work and I hope they will enjoy it.

Meanwhile, another SJW at File 770 warns about the consequences of the cultural war in SF in light of the attempt to ban Adam Baldwin from a convention in Australia:
This isn’t going to end any better than the rest of these discussions.

Let me ask a question based on two possible thought experiments. Those who want to can ban Adam Baldwin if they want. The right get to ban a person of their choice from an event of their choice. Are we all happier and better people?

Alternatively we allow this sort if banning but to stop people using it capriciously we say you have to pay some amount of money which is not easy to raise in order to do it. The ‘other side’ get to donate it to a non political charity of their choice. In this case I’d guess it would be between a quarter and a half million dollars. Is this issue really that important to people if it comes down to real effort, not just arguing online?

Think up your own method if you like but remember that your opponents get to use the same rulebook.

We can’t go on doing this. It has just about destroyed the gaming community and it could do the same to the SF community. The politics don’t matter. The same situation will crop up sooner or later with different politics. The problem is that neither side respects the process. Whoever amasses the most angry tweets wins but nobody believes that is either just or fair. Nobody has their thinking chaged, simply reinforced. The losers just retreat to reorganise and swear to be more vicious next time.
And now, the punchline, from the same SJW, Martin Easterbrook:
At Loncon last year we had many fans from the Ukraine and Russia, two countries who are effectively at war and who go out of the way to humiliate each others POWs. There were no problems with any of them. They stuck to the fan tradition that, as far as we can, we “leave our guns at the door”. This has become unfashionable lately but for some of us it remains something that is part of the core of being a fan.

Some decisions are difficult, for instance I’ve personally suggested to a convention that they exclude Vox Day because I believe he has personally insulted another author to the point where she would be justified in punching him on the nose if she met him. I would not want to attend a convention that had Orson Scott Card as a goh but neither would I want to go to a convention that excluded him completely.
As I pointed out, by Mr. Easterbrook's standard, John Scalzi is due enough punches in the nose that he's effectively given me permission to beat the little creep to death. I wonder, how many insults does Larry Correia have to take before he is justified in playing Mountain to Scalzi's Viper?

Aren't crazed veterans an approved victim group. I though we were anyway. I mean I hope so because it's the only thing I've got going for me as victim, so I try to make the most of it.

Anyway we can include John Ringo and Mike Williamson if that's the case.

Vox, it's rhetorical; there's only one race: the human race.
I took a quick look at languages yesterday and it seems a group called the Sentinelese are one of the last standing unreached people groups on earth. But, they're all "my people". Their story is my story. It's all

Linguistics is the universal imperative.

I enjoyed Larry Corriea's take down of this woman. He pointed out that she is wearing a Dr. Who shirt and that Neil Gaiman has written at least a couple of episodes.

Blogger Cataline Sergius February 24, 2015 6:57 AM

How the hell did Neil Gaiman of all people get denounced before the SJW Central Committee?!?!

Okay he is very white and by that I mean really, really white. Sandman white when you look at him.

But for years Sandman was the SJW bible. They loved it, lots of pictures and everything.

All it took apparently was using the words Trigger Warnings in a way that was actually interesting for once. Double plus ungood badthink. And being friends with Jonathon Ross, which I admit is horrible. but not that horrible.

Good luck getting on the victim roster. "Victim" is the most coveted status in America today. Cash and prizes abound. The best part: you dont need to ever have actually accomplished anything.

Wouldn't it be more like Larry playing Mountain to Scalzi's random guy that Mountain kills while training?

Dont know that much about him other than that he is a popular author, who is friends with Wossy and recently wrote a book called Trigger Warning which was considered by some to be mocking the concept. Based on that I expected at least a sense of humor, a spine and some disrespect for SJW antics...

Gaiman (really? how is that pronouced? not that there's anything wrong with that.) was on NPR the other morning. I read about 7/8ths of his American Gods before just quitting (not horrible, just not worth reading another 10 pages) and I have got to say if you could come up with a more insufferable tone/voice/manner of speaking than that you could have a career in Hollywood. Absolutely priggish, effeminate, wonkish, stepping on eggshells, smarmy effete and plain old BORING responses to every single question. Some writers may have a great deal of commercial success, but does that really mean that they are good writers? C'mon.

Books in Translation
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

We should heed her call for diversity in reading and read more books in translation.

Who cares about "the community?" Fans buy what they want and read it, all without the benefit of a "community." That's just for folks who go to cons and talks about crap online, which is an insubstantial and insignificant portion of the fanbase.

"How about putting your money where your mouth is? Go an entire year without using any thing invented by an evil straight, white male. Go an entire year without using the services of an evil, straight, white male.
There goes your electricity, plumbing, printed books, phone, central heat, travel by motor vehicle and a host of other things. Show how committed to social justice you are by living like an African bushwoman for the next year.
After a year of eating grubs and drinking out of rain puddles you will probably appreciate the evil, straight white males a little more."

It would be hilarious to see one of these loud-mouthed self-styled tough women getting the absolute hell beaten out of them in the ring. It would be even funnier if it turned out she was so self-deluded as to go for something like that.

Scalzi just about wet himself when he ran into Larry and saw how big he is. One of the reasons these yap-dogs bark so loudly is because they can't even imagine physical conflict.

I've run into Scalzi at a hotel before. I think he claims to be 5'10", but he's probably like 5'7 or 5'8 (or maybe his posture is just so bad that he's stooped down and if you straightened him out and made him walk his shoulders back like a man he'd really be 5'10 or whatever). He's also chubby faced and pear shaped, more or less. He makes a big deal about cleaning up nice, but even "cleaned up" he was a rumpled mess of a man.

If John's self image is a "bad ass Marine", then Larry's self-image would be, just scaling straight linearly, Godzilla.

Saw Larry at Constellation, doing the stretch out the leg because it hurt, and talking to a bunch of fans. He seemed normal sized. Completely relaxed, and not at all threatening, even tho' I'm pretty sure many of his fans hanging on his words were liberals. I was expecting something terrifying based on everyone's description of him.

*Normal means > six ft, and 220 pounds. The Bible clearly says that its not your fault you're a shrimp if you're less than six feet. So don't feel too bad you lucked out on being awesome.

OpenID everybodyhatesscott February 24, 2015 10:45 AM

Cataline,

According to that infamous DHS report from the second year of the Obama administration, returning/crazy vets are at or near the top of the list, along with fundamentalist evangelical Christian groups, for being fertile grounds for home grown terrorists.

Somebody here must have saved a copy of that report. It is a very scary report, and all the stuff from Obama's recent conference on extremist terrorism came right from that report.

I blame the school system, we never had "Black History Month" back then.

It goes farther than that. In the past five years I have had people approach me and chastise me (sometimes after church while shaking hands) for not preaching about the topic 'of the day,' including:

MLK Day
Veterans Day
Mothers Day
Sanctity of Life Sunday
Earth Day
Fourth of July
Confederate Memorial Day (Just kidding - that would be ridiculous)
Native American Day / Indigenous People Day (Sorry Vox...)

The first couple of times I was bombarded with these, I fumbled through a response like a scared red-headed step-child (which, BTW, I was for a long portion of my life until my hair went from red to brown). After a while something dawned on me, "What does the Bible say?"

After a careful search from scripture, I had the perfect response, one I use whenever someone gets offended that worship is not about their DAY. "I resolve to know and preach nothing except Christ and Him crucified as long as I am with you."

Now...I will often weave a "day" theme into the sermon if it fits, but won't make worship about the country, or an ethnicity, or the earth.

I also want to thank whoever posted the Bill Burr Philadelphia Rant. If one needs exhortation in being bold in your proclamation to SJWer's this is one to listen to. Warning...it does contain a few salacious words.

Rhetorical question for Mr. Easterbrook: If ordinary assault can be "justified" on the basis of the attackee's speech alone (a la, 'he asked for it'), can sexual assault be similarly "justified" on the basis of the attackee's speech alone (a la 'she asked for it')?
