Rabid Puppies Final Notice

If you're registered as a Supporting Member of either LonCon or Sasquan, don't forget to get your nominations in today. The nominees should be announced in about a month. The list of Rabid Puppies recommendations can be found here while the nomination form is here.

BA noted that the "best editor" categories were originally in the opposite order on the form, so you may want to check your editor nominations to make sure you didn't put them in the wrong order. I've since switched them around on the list, so they should match now. It should be fascinating to see how it all shakes out. To be honest, I have absolutely no idea how things are likely to go, but regardless, I think everyone here will admit that it has certainly been entertaining.

UPDATE: Sasquan, The 73rd World Science Fiction Convention, will announce the nominees for the 2015 Hugo Awards at Norwescon, starting at noon Pacific Daylight Time on Saturday, April 4th, 2015. A real-time video stream of the announcements will be available on the Internet on Ustream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/worldcon1

UPDATE 2: If you're interested in seeing a more comprehensive selection of recommendations, Mike Glyer of File 770 has helpfully compiled all of the various lists in one easy, if extensive, collection.

Thanks for the reminder... I almost missed it.

Vox, Thank you VERY much for the reminder! I've been travelling on business for the last three weeks, and this would have slipped past without your reminder.

Ditto. Votes cast.

Old Yeller approves the rabid puppies slate.

Voted last week. Give 'em hell.

Got my votes off early this morning.

Tangentially on topic - I note Vox, that you are currently editing Somewhither. Would that be John C. Wright's story that he has teases us with from time to time? If so, can we expect it in time to have another contender for next year's Hugo?

Anonymous Giuseppe March 09, 2015 4:00 PM

Voted only for Vox as editor. In both categories. I'm looking for apoplexy if my general ballot is how people went with it.

Yes. And yes.

Well, if we are allowed to prognosticate, I'd say about half the Sad Puppies slate gets nominated per category. I'd like Glyer's fears to come true by Sad Puppies setting the entire slate, but I'm not holding my breath. As for wins, not a snowball's chance, given last year, not without a large infusion of non-Sad Puppies and non-mangy kitten SJWs between now and the final voting deadline.

Thanks for the reminder, I meant to do it this weekend. Technically you have until "11:59PM Pacific Daylight Time on March 10, 2015".

Took them 11 days to get my login info emailed to me last month.

We'll see. It wouldn't surprise me if we did well, and it wouldn't surprise me if we were shut out entirely. There hasn't been nearly enough whining and crying and gnashing of teeth, which makes me suspect the existence of a stealth SJW slate.

Any chance of Wendell the manatee teaming up with the sad puppies for some serious sci-fi that turns the "volume" up to 11? There is a potential market here for Wendell merchandise that could eclipse the "Hello Kitty" franchise, IMO.

While I'd be surprised if there was a counter-slate this year, if only because I'd expect it to have leaked by now, I would be even more surprised if no one counter-organized a naked and very public counter campaign next year. Three years of Sad Puppies success, assuming any success this year, has legitimized the idea of the public campaign. We'll see what happens.

I put my nominations in yesterday. I look forward to seeing all the contributions and voting for strong writing instead of strong good-think.

Still haven't seen my login info, but may be buried in email. Anyone still have the link for the site to retrieve your pin?

Can't wait to see how things come together.

My guess is they haven't even paid attention. "Nominations, wut?"

Short Story publishers:
1) Castalia House
2) Castalia House
3) Broad Reach Publishing
4) magazine = Galaxy's Edge, issue #9 July 2014

I dipped my thumb in some serious Scovilles to make the eye-gouging work better, and voted a blatantly rabid straight ticket. And I'll admit, I didn't read any of the Analog stuff. Maybe I'll renew my subscription (15 years lapsed), it seems they're not a total loss anymore.

Wendell the Manatee in Castalia Film's production....

Monster Hunter Atlantis!

Screenplay by Larry Corriea and John Wright.

Hm, Never got my voter pin, and the voter pin site keeps saying it is sending me an email, but yet I get no email. Clearly a case of voter suppression.

Blogger Rantor March 09, 2015 9:18 PM

My vote is in for Rabid Puppies

Blogger SirThermite March 09, 2015 10:01 PM

My final vote is in now too. Hoping to see John C. Wright win multiple spots on this year's ballot, and Vox get to update the header of this blog so it says "Three-Time Hugo Nominee"

I'm going to guess one Sad/Rabid puppy nomination for novel, novella, and novelette. Short story will be zero or two. There are *way* too many short stories out there, and several years, only four qualified because the nominations were so scattered, so an organized campaign could get more than one *if* it reached the 5% minimum.

Blogger Zeke OF Confettii March 10, 2015 12:00 PM

Nominated and tweaked twice. May the puppies triumph!

Blogger Migly March 10, 2015 3:28 PM

Short story will be zero or two.

Anthony's analysis is correct, however, it supports the opposite prediction. Uniform support for the Sad Puppies slate ought to lead to a strong showing.

The Hugo rules' 5% minimum is why there were only four Short Story finalists on last year's Hugo ballot -- the only stories with at least 43 nominating votes. In the age of digital publishing there are a lot of stories, a lot of recommendation lists, and a lot of self-endorsements diluting the chances of anything in particular.

Anonymous Nathan March 10, 2015 5:15 PM

Given that there were about a hundred Sad Puppies at the nomination stage last year, the low threshold of votes needed in the category, and the book bombs, I think it's more likely that Sad Puppies over-represents in the short fiction categories. Still, we'll find out in April. After all, there were 600 supporting memberships sold in the last week before the deadline, and I'm not foolish enough to believe that Sad Puppies was responsible for a majority of them.

Anonymous WaterBoy March 10, 2015 7:05 PM

Nathan: "After all, there were 600 supporting memberships sold in the last week before the deadline..."

I'm sure that this year's con organizers are just as appreciative of all the controversy/extra revenue as last year's were.

No doubt next year's committee is eagerly looking forward to Sad Puppies 4.
