UPDATE: The Downloadable Content podcast is here if you would like to listen to it and were unable to do so live:
LIVE WEDNESDAY 9PM EST: Tune in at 9PM EST for our special guest, Vox Day! We’re going to be discussing #SadPuppies, #RabidPuppies, Entertainment Weekly, gaming, SJWs/CHORFs and more! Vox Day, Larry Correia, and Brad R. Torgersen had tremendous success with their Rabid Puppies and Sad Puppies nomination slates and swept the Hugo awards with their recommendations. We’re looking forward to hearing Day’s unique perspective on the sci-fi/fantasy community’s battle for creative and intellectual freedom!
I spoke with both vox.com and the American Spectator today, so it's good to see that some media outlets are more responsible than Entertainment Weekly and Slate, which responded to the astonishing Sad Puppies revolution by running to John Scalzi, of all people. In fairness to Mr. Scalzi, what he said was, for once, entirely true.
John Scalzi @scalzi
I wish Larry Corriea had the balls to admit the reason he started the Sad Puppies campaign was that he just wanted a Hugo so fucking bad.
Larry Correia @monsterhunter45
I turned down my Hugo nomination and you still didn't make the ballot. @scalzi

In fairness to Mr. Scalzi, what he said was, for once, entirely true.
As Will Shetterly points out on his blog, people have been manipulating the Hugo nomination processes for decades. (Shetterly recalls watching Orson Scott Card glad-handing his way through various gatherings, penning glowing reviews of fellow sci-fi travelers for his column, and otherwise using his superior resources to mount an effective awards campaign.) And it’s true that, in the past, authors and fans often ignited individual crusades around books they wrote or liked. Writer John Scalzi in particular was famous for opening the threads on his blog to sci-fi and fantasy scribes who wanted to remind the community that their work was Hugo-eligible. But, Scalzi told me on the phone, explicitly anointing and championing a full group of titles, while not illegal, violates convention. It is unprecedented.Anyhow, tune into 405 Media if you're interested. Today was hilarious, though, due to this epic clash of SJW vs Sad Puppy. It was like watch a kitten fight a riding lawnmower.

They forgot trigger warnings. This might get very rapey to SJW's.
I hope it will be recorded so I can podcast it later. I'd love to hear this but will be working.
But Scalzi has that huge lawn. No doubt compensating for something.
The SJWs are continuing to make converts with their histrionic freakouts

> (particularly for nominees that like you, were entirely complicit in the campaign rather than ignorant and innocent of it, like the BDP nominees)
Huh? I didn’t ask to be on the Sad Puppies slate. Nor did I campaign for it. I wasn’t “complicit” in anything – though I’m about ready to start now, because the answers I’m getting from the likes of you and Troutwaxer are pissing me off mightily.
They amount to saying “gaming the system isn’t bad when we do it”, “the politicization isn’t wrong when it’s politics we agree with”, and “the Hugos should be about the best work except when we feel like having a snit”.
I call bullshit on all that. You’re making a better argument for me to sign up with the Evil League of Evil than Vox Day did.
Correia brought the toad on that one. Has Scalzi slinked back underground or is there some serious back peddling happening? (Can't do twitter from present locale - barely able to view this blog most of the time)
Remo
Looks like Scalzi deleted the tweet. I can't find it anywhere.
Regardless of how the history of the Hugos will be parsed, one thing will be immediately obvious to interested parties. Scalzi will be seen as a complete tool.
Damn Slate really fucked up on describing Wright. They seem to think he's only published with you. They completely ignored the fact that he's had a long, successful career with Tor.
What is with these damnedable twats not getting simple facts correct?
Irony 1: John Scalzi using gendered terms to insult someone.
Irony 2: John Scalzi talking about other people not having balls or otherwise 'manning up'.
Vox, you are having way too much fun with all of this. It's unseemly, I tell you.
> You’re making a better argument for me to sign up with the Evil League of Evil than Vox Day did.
Come on in, Eric. The water's fine. You might find the unrepentant Christianity somewhat bothersome, but it's not like we'll subject you to the Inquisition. :)
Looks like Scalzi deleted the tweet. I can't find it anywhere
here
In case you guys missed it, The Federalist also wrote a very good, accurate article about the situation here.
My favorite quote in the article however was this one: "Believe me, when you’re in my line of work, you don’t expect to win any of the mainstream awards, either. They just don’t give those things to people like us. It’s a part of our professional life that most writers on the right have just given up on. And maybe we shouldn’t have."
Vox, you are having way too much fun with all of this. It's unseemly, I tell you.
You can't tell me you all aren't getting $40 worth of entertainment out of this. And the vote isn't until JULY.
> Vox, you are having way too much fun with all of this.
Nah, Last year he was having fun. This year it's serious.
As Gamergate would say, #rekt.
On other news, George R.R. Martin is going to voice his opinion:
http://grrm.livejournal.com/417125.html
Though he's starting with a wrong premise. He claims that Sad Puppies broke the Hugos, but they are only putting a light on the festering wound.
"What is with these damnedable twats not getting simple facts correct?"
Narrative man, and rhetoric. Gotta show all those badwhites* who's in charge now.
*With all due respect to our Indian (casino, not gas station) host.

But Scalzi has that huge lawn. No doubt compensating for something.
Somebody should warn that unrepentant jackass that eco-nazi SJW's think big lawn are EVIL.
EVIL, EVIL, EVIL!
(and if he used any herbicides, he is going straight to the gulag)
@Vox
You can't tell me you all aren't getting $40 worth of entertainment out of this. And the vote isn't until JULY.
I sent my 40 on the 6th. to Susquan. No word back yet. They take a while?
eh, make that Sasquan. opps/
All this free advertising though by Slate and Eww is excellent. They might as well say "all the badboys are over there, breaking rules and not giving a shit!"
Yeah, like that's ever worked at turning people off of whatever anyone's doing.
@ Jack:
My email receipt and whatnot was nearly instant.
The best part of this entire thing is that after the SFWA purge the shortsighted Scalzi cannot escape from a flashback loop of "But you were supposed to go away!".
Welcome to the Manducare Cantet Continuum, Marine.
Irony 3: John Scalzi pushing his slate for the Seattle City Council
George R.R. Martin doesn't care for puppies too much....
http://grrm.livejournal.com/417125.html
Thanks, Salt. My Twitter skills aren't very good...which I suppose isn't surprising given that I don't use it.
National Review however does like puppies. .

I didn't want to sign up, since the currency restrictions here meant that I wouldn't be able to buy books. The thought of getting the package with so many stories I wanted to read was enough to push me over the edge.
The rest is Cornish cream on a toasted scone smothered in strawberry jam. With butter.

" I have my own views on all of this, and they don't line up precisely what what either camp is saying."
Somehow I expect this to be one of those "I don't agree with either side, but one side is clearly right and good and the other side is clearly wrong and bad" situations.
"But many things can be legal, and still bad... and this is one of those, from where I sit.
I think the Sad Puppies have broken the Hugo Awards, and I am not sure they can ever be repaired."
Yup
I think the Sad Puppies have broken the Hugo Awards, and I am not sure they can ever be repaired."
Aww shit.
They can't go back to being a celebration of top quality work, like Redshirts?
Bugger.
Thanks for the opinion, weird little hobbit man!
> I think the Sad Puppies have broken the Hugo Awards, and I am not sure they can ever be repaired."
Sad Puppies followed the rules and the expressed wishes of the Hugo voters explicitly. They said they wanted to get more people involved in the process. They said we should all take part and vote for the titles we wanted. We (myself not included, as I sat out this year) did so. If the result wasn't what they wanted, then the Hugos were already broken, and all Sad/Rabid Puppies did was illustrate it for all to see.
Is part of this Xanatos Gambit the ultimate discrediting of the two-party system?
Hooray, tuned in.
When does the replacement Hugo award get established? I nominate Vox for the first ever "Castilia House of Pain" award!
And, it starts. Thanks for the heads up. The live stream sounds better than my off air tv. Excellent.
Kate and company and Vox.
I wish he hadn't declined the nomination, but I will admit that being able to make this response is entertaining!
OK. Vox sounds good on this superior streaming system. I remember some others where he sounded 'tinny'. I think I will put 365 on my desktop.
I wish he hadn't declined the nomination, but I will admit that being able to make this response is entertaining!
Listening now - thanks for the link.
You don't sound evil enough.
Out but I hope one of you chaps will make it available for later listenibg.
Best comments,
9:04; its a gift...
9:05 gamergate topic, social identification within business model
9:07 keep SJW out of your org
Yes, the perpetually offended, in fear of free market cuz they cannot win in the free market.
9:09 Hugo awards; strategy dependent on our side not fighting back. In 2015, you can be your own independent journalist/game reviewer/Castalia House, etc., doing one's own thing scares the gatekeepers.
9:13 independent best sellers are not perfect but have strong story element.
9:14 Sad and Rabid Puppies
VOX: "I'd like to answer your question but I can't, because I've been reliably informed by a wide variety of media sources that I hate women"
Interesting point on sticking together with others on the Right. I've made that same mistake myself, distancing myself from views I don't like in order to, dare I say it, ingratiate myself subconsciously to my interrogator.
Need to work on that. Never realized it before.
Vox, your voice is very different then I expected. I always thought of you sounding like George C. Scott in Patton
9:19 The Right back down to SJWers as they are not ready for the conflict. a. Fears exist of blacklist/purges.
b. Don't inform the always on the attack SJW, driven by emotion, with any weaknesses like group think, not everyone (EE) agrees with EE.
9:21 Block voting is old/common for various authors to register entire families to vote, legal in HUGO for decades. Discusses Stross various other HUGO noms. Small group whom revolved around Hayden yet have a lower amazon rating.
9:25 Sad Puppies continued coverage.
c. SJW's skew definitions and want terms with murky definitions.
Vox sounds like the reasonable gentleman he is.
Totally terrifying.
@Jew613
You can take the boy out of Minnesota...
MrGreenMan, It could be worse, Vox could be from the upper peninsula in Michigan.
Let no one accuse me of not being a hardcore Vox supporter, staying up till 3 am to listen.
(ok, not really just for interview, working all night anyway)
Good interview so far.
Loving the interview.
My son said "That's Vox? I always hear Darth Vador's voice when I read him."
Jew613 and SarahsDaughter,
Just imagine him stroking a cat while he talks.
My son said "That's Vox? I always hear Darth Vader's voice when I read him."
I always imagine Chief Running Bull, from McLintock!:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POWhlGzTELw
SJW Lady blogger does not understand what blog stats or site meters! Wow! Fudgin numbers dont fly.
Great conversation. Kickin' butt with exact evidence and clear explanations.
My son said "That's Vox? I always hear Darth Vader's voice when I read him."
I always imagined James Earl Jones myself.
Vox sounded downright genteel.
And a pretty accurate description of Star Trek.
Quite entertaining. Plenty of good content. VD was more pro than the hosts... always nice to hear.
I miss Voxic Shock.
Great interview man. Well spoken. Hilarious description of Star Trek.
Good interview, Vox.
And, it ended. Very well done, sounded great, and was informative and entertainiing.
I do feel Vox was a bit rough on the SJW's. But, hey, somebody has to take out the garbage.
What's a "kleeko" (sp)?
Good stuff. You would think from all the SJW tweets, posts, etc, that you kill babies (that's for them to do and only them) and are as shrill as they are. You dispelled all that quite nicely.
Well done, well done.
That was great.
Great interview.
I remember you mentioned in the past, when you did another interview, a few years past, I believe, that you thought you used to many Umms. Or something similar do it. I didn't hear it then and I do not hear it now.
Great job in explaining the real situation.
It's hump day...ha ha ha ha
Neat podcast. Amused to hear about you losing to your son in a miniatures game, Vox.
How would you break down the reasons for your losses? Chance, weakness in strategy, difference in level of interest ... ?
Good interview - they run a pretty professional show there (and I like the use of the TRON theme at the end....).
Great interview man. Well spoken. Hilarious description of Star Trek.
Yes, JJ Abrams even noted some of the difficulties of the material. To him Star Trek what was a little too static for his taste.
Enjoyed the interview... I think dominating the a hugs a good idea, I also hope we just see a higher level of input from fans. A World science fiction award where less than 2000 voted on nominations and not significantly more decide the winners is somewhat broken. I remember going to my first world con in Phoenix and I can't recall that I was even aware of the opportunity to vote on the award. (Pre Internet age).
Wresting the award from the SJW crowd is the first and most critical step
At the end, Bacon asked Vox if he had a "kleeko" and Vox said he had one and a "kleeko emulator" on his phone.
Will someone please tell me what a "kleeko" is? Or at least how to spell it? This is going to drive me crazy otherwise.
"Coleco"
ColecoVision. Google it.
"Aggressive cleavage", nice touch.
If some one accuses a woman of micro-aggressive cleavage, is that an insult now?
Thanks, David and Salt
Great interview. While I agree with your take on Star Trek, that show was a big part of my childhood and did as much for my love of Sci-Fi as Star Wars did. Plus, James T. Kirk has to be the ultimate Alpha.
That reminder that SJWs preaching inclusiveness is an irrelevancy because they always lie made me realize that GlaDOS is a fully operational, more rationally efficient type of SJW.
Practice reading poetry or classic plays out loud. The umms come when your mind and mouth desynchronize. You always have to be anticipating the next bar so the transition is smooth, but stop reconsidering every phrase. The discipline of your music background will help you there - you have to follow the rhythym regardless of where you take it.
You people just don't understand the REAL power behind the #SadPuppies throne, the sinister presence manipulating everyone behind the scenes.. Vox Day! VOX DAAAAaaaay!
a little present for the Ilk and Sad Puppies

Cry 'Ribbit' and let slip the Toad of Tor
Her nose, at least, is fairly well-formed.
Great. This would qualify as Voxic Shock material, at least for the sjwscreamers, I wonder what twitter is throwing out right now.
@Krull - "Coleco" - game console from the mid 80's. I believe the first home platform for Donkey Kong, but after this many years - and it was my cousin's - I could be wrong. Pretty nifty console.
Good Lord, Bob, I may have to stay awake all night to avoid the nightmares after looking at that link.
It wasn't real was it?
You people just don't understand the REAL power behind the #SadPuppies throne, the sinister presence manipulating everyone behind the scenes.. Vox Day! VOX DAAAAaaaay!
I like how Martin uses Orson Scott Card as an example of someone who hasn't experienced any blacklisting and who still has a healthy career. Was he just not paying attention when Card was booted from writing a Superman comic specifically because of his politics?
RE: Vox' point about the SJWs always being on the attack:
Too damned true. A moron cousin of mine posted on FB, ripping Indiana for being backwards hicks on the gay bakery stuff. They started in with the usual "gay bashing" bullshit and then moved onto defending Muslims. Her and her orbiter trying to get under my skin when all I said was maybe it's wrong to force anyone to do things they don't want to. I tried to be reasonable and have a discussion and they kept being dicks.
So after a bit, I figured... OK .... gloves off.
I responded with total mockery. I included lisps, cowardice and a NAMBLA reference.
I figured "Game on!" and awaited the return volley.
Nope. Nothing. Crickets.
After all their dipshit bravado, they had nothing else to say after my one intentionally-offensive post.
So I've had it with trying to be reasonable. I'll dissect with logic and if they want to go stupid and irrational, I'll just go straight to the vivisection.
Hell... life's too short to do otherwise.
jack April 08, 2015 10:53 PM
It wasn't real was it?
i think Porky should post it as a reply to every TNH post ... you know ... since he's running the Ilk twitter channel and everything.
Thanks Lana, that link makes it all clear. The blinders are lifted. We now know who's behind it all...
"While Larry Corriea and Brad R. Torgersen have gotten a lot of the credit in the press, the real power behind this year’s Hugo nominations is someone else: Theodore Beale."
Indeed.
You have to watch that Vox character. He's pullin' strings everywhere. (And all this time, I thought it was the Illuminati!)
This IS worth way more than $40. For the first time in my life, I am a genuine, dues paying, fully subscribed "supporting member" of Worldcom or whatever it's called. Looking forward to July.
i think Porky should post it as a reply to every TNH post ... you know ... since he's running the Ilk twitter channel and everything.
And I thought I was the only one who caught that. Not that I forgive you for the "let slip the Toad of Tor" graphic. Yikes.
bob k. mando - a little present for the Ilk and Sad Puppies
Could have given a trigger warning....
Bob, I dry-heaved a bit and - if I weren't a soulless ginger - my soul would have just died.
Well done.
So I've had it with trying to be reasonable. I'll dissect with logic and if they want to go stupid and irrational, I'll just go straight to the vivisection.
Just remember the power of "no". Watching the lefties get nonplussed because they can't get around that simple word can be a whole lot of fun.
Brad Andrews: "I wish he hadn't declined the nomination, but I will admit that being able to make this response is entertaining!"
A burn like that is an award all its own.
Speaking as someone who, much like the classic SJW, finds lots of things "triggering" seeing the picture of Vox with wife and also listening to his voice is jolting to me. I think its because, much like the SJW, I always suspect that deep down everybody is like me and completely insecure, and that this blog is actually written by somebody with deep insecurity. When it becomes clear that it isn't it is a mini-shock to me.
Larry also played Slap the Stupid Damien last night.
WHO RUNS HUGO TOWN?.
FYI, McAffee is blocking 405 Media as Pornography.
I'm a little surprised that Vox has such a good sense of humor. I was expecting grim and humorless. Harumph.
Thanks for mentioning me, Vox.
From now on, in all public communications, we should refer to Miss Swirksy's award winning work as 'If You Give a Dinosaur a Cookie.'
My internal voice for VD as I read his posts was significantly different than the reality .... he sounds almost normal and sane...
Great interview.
I enjoyed how they actually let you talk, unlike Thomm Hartmann.
I cannot commend you enough for what you have done with this.
Nobody in recent times has done more to put the illiberal left back on it heels as you have (though this may be a small arena).
This is why all of the pundits are nothing but blowhards.
Again, I cannot commend you enough for leading the way and being a stonewall against them.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but WTH you do not sound like Satan or anything. I was certain you would sound like the Devil from 'The Devil and Daniel Webster'. But no just a normal mild voice.
How did you disguise the evil? Is it possible you are not the reincarnation of Rasputin/Hitler/Khan Noonian Singh?
