Kicked out of the warren

The atheists in Ireland found that PZ Myers's relentlessly odious and bullying style was finally too much for them to take any longer:
Atheist Ireland is publicly dissociating itself from the hurtful and dehumanising, hateful and violent, unjust and defamatory rhetoric of the atheist blogger PZ Myers. The final of many, many straws were his latest smear that Ayaan Hirsi Ali is ‘happily exploiting atrocities’, and his subsequent description of Atheist Ireland’s chairperson as ‘the Irish wanker’...

Some examples of his hurtful and dehumanising rhetoric

He said that ‘the scum rose to the top of the atheist movement’, that it is ‘burdened by cretinous reactionaries’, that ‘sexist and misogynistic scumbags’ are ‘not a fringe phenomenon’, and that if you don’t agree with Atheism Plus, you are an ‘Asshole Atheist’. He agreed that science fetishism reproduces the ‘white supremacist logic of the New Atheist Movement.’ He said ‘I officially divorce myself from the skeptic movement,’ which ‘has attracted way too many thuggish jerks, especially in the leadership’.

He said Richard Dawkins ‘seems to have developed a callous indifference to the sexual abuse of children’ and ‘has been eaten by brain parasites’, Michael Nugent is ‘the Irish wanker’ and a ‘demented fuckwit’, Ann Marie Waters is a ‘nutter’, Russell Blackford is a ‘lying fuckhead’, Bill Maher’s date at an event was ‘candy to decorate [her sugar daddy’s] arm in public’, Ben Radford is a ‘revolting narcissistic scumbag’ and his lawyer is ‘J Noble Dogshit’, Rosetta scientist Matt Taylor and Bill Maher are ‘assholes’, and Abbie Smith and her ‘coterie of slimy acolytes’ are ‘virtual non-entities’. He called Irish blogger ZenBuffy a ‘narcissistic wanker,’ after she said she has experienced mental illness....

He also employs hate speech against Christians (‘I left the theatre filled with contempt and loathing for Christians’), apocalypse-mongers (‘they make me furious and fill me with an angry contempt’), ‘your average, run-of-the-mill Christian’ (‘I despise Karen Armstrong almost as much as I do Fred Phelps’), and several people who were organising a prayer initiative (‘Jesus Christ but I hate these slimebags’ who are ‘demented fuckwits every one.’)

He uses violent rhetoric. He said ‘I’ve got to start carrying a knife now’ to kill Christians if they pray instead of helping him while he is dying. He said about a meal: ‘Don’t show up to pick a fight or we’ll pitch you off a pier.’ When a Brazilian priest died in a charity ballooning accident, he said ‘my new dream’ will be shooting priests out of the sky from an aircraft. When a Christian shopkeeper apologised for offending atheists, he refused to accept the apology, saying ‘No. Fuck him to the ground.’ He would rather debate William Lane Craig in writing ‘where I can pin him down, stick a knife in the bastard, and twist it for a good long while’. He praised a blog post that ‘shanks Thunderf00t in the kidneys and mocks him cruelly’.

He has encouraged his blog commenters to ‘rhetorically hand [critics] a rotting porcupine and tell you to stuff it up your nether orifice’. They in turn have told people to ‘put a three week old decaying porcupine dipped in tar and broken glass up your arse sideways’, to ‘fuck yourself sideways’ with a ‘rusty chainsaw’, ‘red-hot pokers’ or a ‘rusty coat hanger’, and to ‘go die in a fire. slowly. seriously’. More recently he said of ‘faux-Vulcan shit’ that he encourages his commentariat to ‘draw their knives and flense it so thoroughly the dispassionate ass is feeling the pain in every nerve ending’.
You know PZ spiraled completely out of control when not a single example of his regular hate-on for me didn't even make the Top 40 list. I quit paying attention to him years ago, and I'm a little sorry about that because it appears we missed some quality antics during that time.

On the plus side, at least he didn't end up selling his corpulent body in a Las Vegas brothel. It could have been worse.

There is one interesting thing here. You've probably noticed that all the various calls for Larry Correia, Brad Torgersen, and others to disavow me are based on a very small number of cropped and ungrammatical quotes; they don't even dare to quote a single complete sentence. And yet, there are no calls from public figures for Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris to disavow PZ Myers despite there being considerably more examples of considerably more objectionable public statements.

Why might that be?

‘put a three week old decaying porcupine dipped in tar and broken glass up your arse sideways’

Is that a porcupine that was three week's old when it died, or one that had been dead for three weeks? Plus, I think the tar is counterproductive. You don't want those quills smoothed over and pinned down for that. They need to be bushy.

It now occurs to me that PZ might not have had the rodent rectal insertion expertise he claims. No wonder they kicked him out.

MPC: "lol, why is PoZ Myers so obsessed with knives?

PZ Myers on January 20, 2011:

First, never quote Mother Teresa at me — she was an evil hag who worshipped poverty, who did not help people except to encourage them to suffer more for her faith, while she lived in comfort and traveled far and wide to receive the accolades of the gullible. I would never find the words of that wicked woman persuasive.

Secondly, the standard bullying tactics of waving bloody fetuses might cow the squeamish, but I’m a biologist. I’ve guillotined rats. I’ve held eyeballs in my hand and peeled them apart with a pair of scissors. I’ve used a wet-vac to clean up a lake of half-clotted blood from an exsanguinated dog. I’ve opened bodies and watched the intestines do their slow writhing dance, I’ve been elbow deep in blood, I’ve split open cats and stabbed them in the heart with a perfusion needle. I’ve extracted the brains of mice…with a pair of pliers. I’ve scooped brains out of buckets, I’ve counted dendrites in slices cut from the brains of dead babies.

You want to make me back down by trying to inspire revulsion with dead baby pictures? I look at them unflinchingly and see meat. And meat does not frighten me.

Mike, their hatred of people is just a shadow of their primary hatred. Remember the unofficial atheist motto: God does not exist and I hate him.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan April 15, 2015 6:57 AM

All the Left IMO is an unstable coalition, but that is never exploited. Instead each cult or group of the Left is allowed to come out of their ranks to do battle with the "common enemy" and we being the "common enemy" oblige them by doing battle with each group one at a time.

Somewhere in strategy lessons from history should be that sage advice to allow the enemy to collapse upon itself, with our help of course.

It's a travesty that a manw ho states he carries a knife to kill Christians is actually TEACHING at a college in Minnesota. I can tell PZ that if he was in trouble on a street, I probably wouldn't waste time praying for him, I'd just let him bleed to death while he thrashed with his penknife wildly, that same twisted look of hatred on his face.

A bestiality advocate and an all round disgusting human being, the best way to get back at PZ is to ignore him. I mean, Dawkins and company are detestable enough, but PZ is actually a lower form of life.

PZ Myers always makes me wish I lived physically close to him, in order that I could give him a chance to make good on one of his threats to stab or accost a Christian in public. Once before I believe he mentioned that the next time he saw a family say grace over a meal in a public restaurant he would confront them and throw food or smack them around...

I would LOVE to be that guy he accosted...but like virtually all SJWs, he is no doubt a physical coward and is all talk unless he is in a place where it could only be "all talk"...i.e. behind his keyboard or classroom lectern.

Even if I didn't look like a big goon...my wife could probably beat him down in a fight.

Anonymous zapbrannigan1 April 15, 2015 10:28 AM

Stephen J. nails it above.

This man does deserve our prayers. The quotes above (and the frankly astounding number of them) legitimately lead me to believe that Mr. Myers is suffering from some form of mental instability. For people like him, life itself is cruel punishment and everyone around him needs to suffer for it.

The sheer, unadulterated hate that he spews forth reminds me of one of the most interesting articles to which Vox has ever linked on his site. It's an account of a former Communist radical who had "converted" back to her native Catholic faith, and why she made the choice. The link to Vox's post is here:

http://voxday.blogspot.com/search?q=red+diaper+baby

The relevant portion of the article is as follows:

"1) Hate.

If hate were the only reason, I’d stop being a leftist for this reason alone.

Almost twenty years ago, when I could not conceive of ever being anything but a leftist, I joined a left-wing online discussion forum.

Before that I’d had twenty years of face-to-face participation in leftist politics: marching, organizing, socializing.

In this online forum, suddenly my only contact with others was the words those others typed onto a screen. That limited and focused means of contact revealed something.

If you took all the words typed into the forum every day and arranged them according to what part of speech they were, you’d quickly notice that nouns expressing the emotions of anger, aggression, and disgust, and verbs speaking of destruction, punishing, and wreaking vengeance, outnumbered any other class of words.

...

I do have right-wing friends now and they do get angry and they do express that anger. But when I encounter unhinged, stratospheric vituperation, when I encounter detailed revenge fantasies in scatological and sadistic language, I know I’ve stumbled upon a left-wing website."

I would encourage you to read the whole thing. It's eye-opening.

Anonymous hygate April 15, 2015 10:42 AM

Blogger rcocean April 15, 2015 10:55 AM

"PZ is an attention whore" - he's made it quite clear he considers himself in engaged in a "movement" for fun and profit. Accordingly, debating Vox or doing anything that doesn't achieve that objective is useless to him. Of course, his hate filled tirades show he's a SJW first, and an atheist second. I've known lots of atheists. In my experience it doesn't appear to be a static condition. Following atheists over a number of years you will notice some inching closer to faith and others receding. Without exception those receding, degenerate. Without exception. Mental health, physical health, economic stability, rationality, altruism, civility or any other measure of thriving decline according to the level of atheistic devotion.

A recent acquaintance, an intelligent young man, devotee of Hitchens (he would weep reading passages aloud) upper middle-class, "with potential" who used to "debate" my theism for sport every time he had the chance, is just one example. I ran into him the other day, barely recognized him. He smelled like pee, emaciated, hands shaking, looked like he brushed his teeth with cheddar cheese. I heard he's on his second DUI, finally dropped out of college after 7 or 8 years--no degree, still living at home working part-time making funeral urns (yeah, really), has attempted suicide by carbon monoxide and is now screwing men for drug money after the umpteenth girlfriend dumped him.

All metaphysical questions aside, atheism is just not a healthy paradigm on which to build one's life.

Crazy, sure, and far be it from me to throw stones. But a great deal of what he's quoted as asserting was true. For example, scum rises to the top of the atheist movement, misogyny is common, and science fetishism has indeed reproduced white supremacy.

The stuff he said about Christians was almost entirely emotional reactions (disgust, primarily) to their cultural practices.

As an atheist I am glad to see that the Irish atheists have called him out.A lot of what he posted (and worse encouraged among those that commented on his site) was extremely hateful. Democracy needs a lot of virtues that are not defined by law, but are the product of recognition that those who do not agree with one should be treated as humanely. Good people can believe bad ideas and vice versa.

Also though I should note that,

One of the Christian posters in this thread describes an atheist as

" He smelled like pee, emaciated, hands shaking, looked like he brushed his teeth with cheddar cheese. I heard he's on his second DUI, finally dropped out of college after 7 or 8 years--no degree, still living at home working part-time making funeral urns (yeah, really), has attempted suicide by carbon monoxide and is now screwing men for drug money after the umpteenth girlfriend dumped him. Even if all this is true for all athiests it would show that that believing in God is good for us. This might be why religions have lasted. It does not mean that religion is true.

Certainly.

And I would make the same plea for paganism in respect of Christianity, despite Christianity having out-competed paganism politically and historically.

And Christians can make the same plea in relation to Islam, in the parts of the world where Islam has conquered Christianity (and paganism) such that both of those options are bad for one's health.
