If you don't have a qb, or if you don't know if you have a qb, you need to draft a qb.

Thus, the titans should take mariota at 2.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:17 PM

Thank God... I was wondering how many threads we were going to have to completely take over before you put this up.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:19 PM

Shut up Josh. You're only saying this so you can bitch when they trade down. You've been calling for them to trade down forever.. now you're afraid they may actually do it... and you want to be able to bitch about what they do so you're changing your tune.

Trading down is the only smart thing to do here.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:20 PM

and what is this gold carpet bullshit? this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

Anonymous jm April 30, 2015 6:24 PM

I meant if we can't trade down.

Blogger Eric Wilson April 30, 2015 6:31 PM

I think Mariota will be better than Winston.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:34 PM

ESPN reporting that teams are contacting the bucs for trades. That tells me the Titans are asking a boatload.

As they should.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:37 PM

"I meant if we can't trade down."

gay.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:37 PM

"I think Mariota will be better than Winston."

you ain't alone.

I think Mariota will be better than Winston

So you're telling me a less accurate version of RGIII with a far weaker arm is going to end up being better?
Fine.
Mark my words, the only QB in this year's draft that will still be in an NFL uniform in 10 years (holding a clipboard, but still) will be Grayson.

Blogger YIH April 30, 2015 6:39 PM

Here's what I've been following:
The Eagles want to move up, the Bucs (or any team) are not sold on Jameis Winston.
That's my opinion, he's 'another black QB', he doesn't rate the first draft pick.
I hope the Bucs trade down, and that Tennessee team as well.
It worked for the Cowboys last year, they were convinced to not take Johnny Manziel, and it got them into the playoffs.
The Browns OTOH, got Manziel with their 2nd first round pick.
IMHO, the Bucs should go for the best they can get, and it's NOT an QB.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:39 PM

"So you're telling me a less accurate version of RGIII with a far weaker arm is going to end up being better?"

I agree. I don't like any of these guys. None.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:41 PM

I think several teams are sold on Winston... I don't know if the Bucs are. I don't think the Titans want to draft a QB. I think if no trades come through they'll draft Williams

Anonymous Huckleberry -- est. 1977 April 30, 2015 6:41 PM

Winston is a less-dumb JaMarcus Russell.
If that's the X-factor, so be it.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:45 PM

Money makes you more of who and what you already are. That means in about 2 months Winston is going to be arrested for gang raping 27 women... all by himself.

Anonymous Huckleberry -- est. 1977 April 30, 2015 6:49 PM

I think if no trades come through they'll draft Williams

That'd be a big help, but if they could trade down for a 1st and a couple of 2nd round picks, they can still get a top D tackle, maybe 2, and a wide receiver. Or their choice of linebackers.
I'm not sold that there's that much of a gap between Williams and Shelton, Goldman, Brown or Phillips.
Watching him play for USC the past few years, Williams has the odd PAC-12 characteristic of undercoached raw physical talent that needs more polish.
But I suppose that's the 2015 NFL Draft in a nutshell anyway.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:49 PM

When you don't trade down...

you draft Jameis Winston...

When you draft jameis Winston...

Jameis Winston moves to Nashville.

When Jameis Winston moves to Nashville he socializes with Nashville celebrities.

When Jameis Winston socializes with Nashville celebrities...

He rapes Taylor Swift.

Trade Down.

Don't Let Jameis Winston Rape Taylor Swift.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 6:51 PM

"Watching him play for USC the past few years, Williams has the odd PAC-12 characteristic of undercoached raw physical talent that needs more polish.
But I suppose that's the 2015 NFL Draft in a nutshell anyway."

there are a few refined guys.

Amari Cooper has the highest floor of any WR I've seen come out in a long time. He doesn't have the ceiling of White... but his floor is high. Very very high.

If you are looking for a "WE CANNOT MISS" pick... he's it.

Blogger Eric Wilson April 30, 2015 6:59 PM

will be Grayson.

As a Colorado fan, I have to question this. I mean if our sad team almost beat him, it doesn't bode well...

Anonymous Huckleberry -- est. 1977 April 30, 2015 7:03 PM

I did say he'd be holding a clipboard.

Anonymous WaterBoy April 30, 2015 7:04 PM

YIH: "The Eagles want to move up"

Anyone ever tell the Eagles' front office that the NFL is not a Fantasy Dynasty league, so hoarding QBs doesn't do any good?

Blogger Eric Wilson April 30, 2015 7:07 PM

I did say he'd be holding a clipboard.

True

Blogger Underwater Operative April 30, 2015 7:07 PM

If you want a franchise QB you go with Winston.

Anonymous WaterBoy April 30, 2015 7:08 PM

Nate: "Money makes you more of who and what you already are. That means in about 2 months Winston is going to be arrested for gang raping 27 women... all by himself."

They're going to have to wait their turn at the trough...half of his first year's salary is already spoken for...

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 7:10 PM

'If you want a franchise QB you go with Winston."

Winston has bust written all over him.

Blogger Underwater Operative April 30, 2015 7:15 PM

RG3, Johnny Rotten and Mario Cart had bust written all over them. Winston is the real deal.

Anonymous Supernaut April 30, 2015 7:16 PM

All I can say is if the Vikings trade Adrian Peterson to move up to draft some rookie, Spielman should be tarred, feathered and run out of Minny on a rail.

Whoever he ends up playing for, All Day is going to run roughshod over the entire league this season.

Blogger Derrick Bonsell April 30, 2015 7:16 PM

I'm looking forward to Pittsburgh drafting someone who gets injured in the preseason or better yet during Spring Training.

Blogger Underwater Operative April 30, 2015 7:17 PM

I'm callin' FSU with 11 picks through the whole thing. It's a great class.

OpenID cailcorishev April 30, 2015 7:28 PM

Were I an NFL owner, the fans would hate me, because I'd trade away our first-round pick every year.

Nate:

It wouldn't surprise me that much. Considering he got busted for trying to shoplift crab legs from a Publix it tells me that I should hope the Tinies get him and not a FL team!

If Winston can stay out of jail he might be a middling qb or better. He doesn't seem inclined to mentoring though, so we'll see. His self control is seriously lacking.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 7:35 PM

am I the only one having doubts about this Williams kid from USC?

Which is why you can put good $ on Tampa Bay picking him up. That organization is a hot mess.

Blogger Buddy E. April 30, 2015 7:52 PM

That's his major issue IMO: he thinks he's Mr football and nobody else knows more than he does. It's bound to cause friction unless he pulls his head out.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 7:54 PM

VY head with a much better skill set and higher talent level.

Still a VY head.

Blogger Buddy E. April 30, 2015 8:01 PM

I actually like Grayson better than Mariota or Winston. He's gotta work long ball and get some consistency there. That said, if Winston could mature some, he MIGHT be great. His arm strength is silly. But his attitude and maturity suck and people don't like working with an asshole. He also gets flustered sometimes and is often slow to start.

Blogger YIH April 30, 2015 8:04 PM

Buddy E.:

Seen it all before, Winston will be a one season wonder. He'll raise everyone's hopes that ''He'll be the next Warren Moon'' and then fail.
Too bad Minneapolis failed to get the NFL draft.

Yup, exactly. I'm not writing him completely of yet. Someone might kick his ass and knock some sense into him, but those odds are long.

I don't much care for Mariota because I think the running qb can't last in the NFL. He might be OK for a while but I doubt he lasts long unless he settles down into a pocket passer. Inevitably the running qb gets his shit rung enough times that he ends up like RGIII.

The Bucs got another African QB, maybe they can trade what they got for a starting OL.

Anonymous Huckleberry April 30, 2015 8:41 PM

Mariota had to be the call of the Titans owner. Whisenhunt hates that kind of QB, and his HC career has been haunted by subpar QB play. I don't see him making that choice unless it wasn't his to make.

It seems all the other teams now think the 1 and 2 draft picks are not that important.

Anonymous Supernaut April 30, 2015 8:46 PM

Well Nate, you should at least wait until Philly gets their pick before you go pyromaniac. They may yet find a way to trade for Mariota...like the Eli Manning SD - Philip Rivers NYG swap.

Re: Titans draft Mariota:

And so we came here to find out why those who have coached him, like Helfrich, rail so vehemently against that perception.

"He might be the fastest guy on the field, but his mind is even faster," Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly said on ESPN, just before Mariota's final college game in January. "He thinks like Peyton Manning."

I have to admit, I admire Nate's perserverance in the face of constant disappointment.
This too he will rise above, even while serving time for his Baltimore Thug response.

If they can do it, I do not see why it is "NOT OK" for Nate. That's just raciss.

That's pretty much normal for Tampa Bay.

Anonymous Tom B April 30, 2015 9:16 PM

There are people on here who think the Bucs are the worst team, on the field and in the back office, in the League. Really? The only reason the Jags drafted Fowler was to get a Gator on the team, because they think that will get asses into seats. THAT... is the worst team in the League, ladies and gentlemen.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 9:20 PM

They aren't trading him. They've already interviewed him and everything. Idiots. They are adamant they are keeping him.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 9:21 PM

Blogger Conan the Cimmerian April 30, 2015 9:21 PM

Vikings pick:

Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
Waynes (6-0 1/8, 186 pounds, 4.23 40) was burned 25 times on 59 targets, meaning he was beaten for a catch just 42.4 percent time, a strong figure. He gave up one touchdown and also had 11 passes defensed and three interceptions.

Anonymous zen0 April 30, 2015 9:21 PM

@ Conan
> Warren Moon is the only exception to that rule.

That is cuz he trained for pro ball in Canada. Different culture. Had to learn to hang with whitey, while receiving constant respect and other rewards for doing so.

He had to play in Edmonton, for pity's sake. On the highway to the arctic friggin circle.

Blogger Nate April 30, 2015 9:24 PM

"Mariota had to be the call of the Titans owner."

You should remember that the controlling ownership of the Titans are Bud Adams DAUGHTERS... who basically hate the team and always have. They are using it to fuck over his grandson who is the only family member who actually ever gave a damn about the team besides Bud himself.

its a damn nightmare.

As a Wisconsinite I'll say" "In Ted we trust." As I expect the Packers to trade back into the 2nd round.

What's with the Rams drafting an rb in the first round? Unless he turns out to be comparable to AD or Lynch that has got to be a wasted 1st rounder.

I didn't think Byron Jones would fall to 27 -- and I was 90% certain he'd wind up in the City of Brotherly Shove. But no, coach genius smoothies decided to take an ok slot receiver from the Pac10, thinking he'll be the next Odell Beckham. Good luck with that Chipster and we'll be saying thanks when Byron Jones gets his first pro INT wearing a Star on his helmet instead of Eagles fly fly wings in Week 2.

It must suck to be an Eagles fan. The only thing worse is being a Browns or Jags fan.

As for Vox and long suffering Vikes fans, I'm cool with dealing a 4th for All Day if he wants to take a pay cut. I just don't see the salary cap cents working even with Carr's deal being dead money next year. Brandon won't get cut this year.

Blogger Dave W. April 30, 2015 11:24 PM

Dorsett to the Colts? Geezus, he's a TY Hilton clone. Luck gets two of them to throw to?

Plus Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, Fleener. That's just filthy.

Anonymous Cowboys Fan April 30, 2015 11:32 PM

Me thinks Colts knew they're gonna have to pay Luck ridiculous money in a contract extension -- and got Dorsett as a T.Y. Hilton backup/kick returner/potential replacement after T.Y. gets paid by the Raiduhs or Jags in FA next season. Otherwise that pick makes little sense to me...

anyway this is already shaping up to be Jason Garrett's best draft, especially if we can finagle AP for a song (though we don't have the cap room unless Tony redoes his deal through 2021 to go for Romo Super Bowl 2015 or 2016 broke).

Yup. And they passed over another CB with a slightly better draft rating. Sometimes, I don't know what to think about the Chiefs.

They got the guy with the most talent and upside. Big risk too, but that's the way it goes.

Can anyone 'splain the Superchargers giving the San Francisco Dumpster Fires two extra draft picks in order to move up two picks and take a guy neither of the teams in front of them were going to take? Houston wasn't going to take a RB, and if you were weren't sure how happy SF was with Hyde, ask them what they want to swap picks. If they make any sort of reasonable offer, turn them down cause that means they aint interested in the RB.

IMO, I think it makes a lot of sense. You give your elite QB lots of weapons. It'll be a nightmare to cover all those guys.

Yeah, Luck is gonna get sick money come his next contract. Gotta keep giving him guys to throw to.

re: YIH
Cowboy will pick him up for nothing. Vikings cut AP, there's nothing they have on him.

Zen0, and yet, they've dominated for almost 15 years. True, all good things must come to an end. I was a long suffering Sox fan before they had their run.

You've got to be fucking kidding. You forgot the /sarc
The Vikes and AP are over. If they keep him, they are being stupid.

Pffft. AP got a few more good seasons left in his tank. Only one serious injury in his hall of fame career, and he came back from that in record setting time and form.

Then he got a whole season of rest to build up his hunger.

Of course AP wants to play near his hometown. "It would be nice." Too bad for him, the Vikes have him under contract for the next several years.

"Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said today that despite widespread speculation that Peterson could be traded, that’s simply not going to happen.

“We can just end the Adrian Peterson stuff. Our position has not changed since all of the statements we made down at the owners’ meetings. Adrian Peterson is under contract, his suspension was lifted, we’re looking forward to having Adrian Peterson as a Minnesota Viking in 2015. That’s the end of the story. That’s it,” Spielman said.

Spielman reiterated comments from coach Mike Zimmer that the Vikings expect Peterson to be their starting running back this year.

“I think coach Zimmer made it clear that we have no interest in trading Adrian Peterson. We don’t."

Zimmer is a defensive minded coach who likes to run the ball, and has stated over and over again that he wants and expects AP to play for the Vikings in 2015.

"Cowboy will pick him up for nothing. Vikings cut AP, there's nothing they have on him."

Keep dreaming about AP in your team's favorite color. It 'aint happening this year. He's going to redefine beast mode while wearing the purple and gold. Count on it.

There's no reason for the Vikings to trade Peterson for a song, they have all the leverage and aside from chirping like birds Peterson and his camp have little else. If AP holds out his only leverage out of Minnesota, playing well enough to increase his value on the market, will decline even more rapidly. The Vikings shouldn't give up Peterson for a 4th rounder, at a bare minimum I'd require either multiple mid round picks highlighted by a 2nd round pick or a 1st round pick. If they can't get that why trade him, especially when they have all the leverage right now? I doubt they could get a 1st round pick for him unless a team is certain they're a RB away from a SB.

Happy my Jets got Leonard Williams at #6, but I wonder whether the Titans got too cute and took Marcus Mariota when they preferred Leonard Williams, leaving the Jets to take Williams when they preferred Mariota.

Nate, you seem to like Mariota less than I do. If you had the power, would you now trade Mariota for Williams, knowing how everything shook out?

Watching Mariota go to the Titans is painful. I wanted the Chippy to burn all his bridges to get Mariota so that I could designate ONE team in the NFL the Team I Hate.

Oh well, now that the first round is over, I get to watch the Seahawks dominate the rest of it. Not 100% sure if it's brilliant picks or brilliant coaching, but they have done a fine job in the draft since Pete came on board.

1st round Day of the Bust. Basically driven by the closeted homosexuals of the sports media. Big Gay Steve might as well be handed the reigns at ESPN and the front office. Caste Football is far better than the TV clowns or the gimps of the GM offices

Hooray the old criminal, weed smoking Cowboys of the 1990s are back. I guess that means we're ready for Super Bowl glory.

Half joking, of course. Our QB has had two back surgeries in two seasons.

Here's hoping we beat out the Bolts and Niners for RB Jay Ajayi. He is a D/FW kid from Boise St.

By the way, am I the only one who wishes they'd tell us the players' hometowns instead of their colleges? I'm much more interested in where a guy grew up than in where he spent a couple years banging coeds while training and waiting to be eligible for the pros.
