The crime of failing to cower

This sounds like sheer comedy in the academic thought gulag:
Members of the Virginia Tech football team have been accused of acting disrespectfully at a campus sexual assault awareness event. Players were required to attend a Take Back the Night event on March 26. The event was organized by a campus female activism group and featured sexual assault survivors speaking about their experiences as victims. Multiple attendees accused the players of infringing upon the "safe space" the event is intended to foster, according to The Roanoke Times.

Take Back the Night is a national organization that seeks "to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence."

Several attendees wrote letters to the student newspaper, the Collegiate Times, complaining about the players' behavior. The players arrived late, said they did not know why they were attending the event and spent much of the time looking at their phones, the letters said.

"[T]heir judgmental remarks made it very hard to feel safe," one wrote. "When survivors took the stage, there was nothing respectful in the way the football team took it, especially in reference to transgender survivors. I am deeply offended and horrified by the disrespectful nature that the players displayed."
I would suggest that dragging the most aggressive and athletic young men on campus into a place they observably don't want to be and then flaunting "transgender survivors" in their faces is almost the exact opposite of a "safe space".

Some things merit disrespect. Maoist consciousness-raising sessions are most certainly one of them.

Safety has always been enforced with power. A home is safe because of Mr. Colt.

They have no power with which to enforce the safety of their safe space. They beg administrators to play thought police to indulge them. They have no agency, and they have made themselves into marionettes.

Nothing should make those girls realize how weak they are than that they failed at this "safe space". They should not have tried.

i would like to know how this is NOT racist, sexist, privileged oppression of the minorities on the Hokie team.

LOL

I do feel sorry for the players, though. They're being maligned for attending an event that they were required to attend.

The common sense answer would be to not make them attend, but then common sense has nothing to do with this, does it? The school will probably insist that the players apologize and prostrate themselves in front of everyone.

That's perfect, Salt.

Safe space, like where that picture in the lower topic was taken? Mr.GreenMan is right, a [insert here] is safe because of Mr. Colt.

VT is screaming to be ridiculed. Rolling Stone could make amends.

It's getting really difficult to experience an honest to goodness "WTF!" moment anymore. At one time, such an event and the resulting expressions of butt hurt would give me pause, but not anymore. If I was there, I would just want to yell, "Fuck You!" and leave.

If the bitches want to feel real pain, they should be required to suit up full gear and hit the gridiron for some full contact.

So, in essence, they are guilty for not exposing their anuses to the stiletto wielding crazies and saying 'please sir may I have another?'

I know a Chinese man, an accomplished botanist, who was forced to become a Red Guard back in the 1960's. His greatest fear was that he would talk in his sleep, his true thoughts would become known, and that he would be shot the next day. He still has nightmares about it.

How much longer until they start taking out VT football players to be shot?

Anonymous Strange Aeons April 06, 2015 6:45 PM

If any of those "transgender survivors" were perpetrators of a Crying Game-esque situation that preceded their assault, I'd imagine the fact that they were able to walk on a stage at all and vocalize their complaints was a testament to the mercy of THEIR victims.

Can't "Take Back" the night if it was never yours to begin with.

Blogger Alexander April 06, 2015 6:46 PM

You take the Emperor's coin (a free lunch at the U. to play a game for the richly-paid coach to hopefully put an addition in his trophy cabinet) and they make you jump (how high, Sir?!), juggle like a clown and kiss some transgendered....well.....ick!

What's to complain about? As long as later that night you get a cheerleader or two on the side.

The Modern Corporation's sales meetings are no different; all that is missing are signs that tell you when to clap, when to cheer, and how high to jump when the Head Clown is on stage.

So they were required to attend. They did...and couldn't feign enough interest, and this is categorized as judgmental? Perhaps the ladies could have been clearer that the only acceptable male response is complete surrender to their social values. By that, that they appear to be interested. The football players could have shed a few tears.

Didn't feel Safe. As in, somebody broke one of your bones? As in, somebody left you bruised and bleeding? Football players live that every day. Oh, you don't mean physically hurt, you mean your Feelings were hurt? The place wasn't Safe for Your Feelings? You know, I'm not certain such a place exists outside your own head. Which apparently, is stuck up your ---. Which is why we don't care much about what you think.

They're easy to push around since they're basically employees of the college. The accusations could also be fabricated since the left wants to abolish football anyway. Performance used to get you a power base, but in the a degenerate culture of victimhood achievement is becoming entirely a disadvantage

When Take Back the Night becomes Three Hours I Ain't Never Getting Back.

Those guys probably should have been more compassionate. They could have said, "Don't worry ladies. I assure you that your diligent daily efforts in the cafeteria have assured that you will never become a sexual statistic on campus."

After all, statistics indicate that only 1 out of 5 women at fake rape attention fests don't make football players throw up in their mouths a little. Take Back the Buffet.

"Survivors." Come on with their suicide rate a transgender survivor is one that didn't kill themselves.

Yeah, I was wondering what that means. They used to be transgendered, but survived it, and now they're not? That would be a good thing, so I guess that's not it. Hard to sympathize with people when you don't even know what their gripe is.

Is it just me, or are they pushing the TG thing way too fast too hard? Middle-Americans slowly caved in on gay marriage basically because Neil Patrick Harris is cute and funny and they didn't want to make him feel bad. He's not creepy, as long as you don't think about what he does in the bedroom. But TGs are either ridiculous-looking like Terry Jones playing a woman in a Python film or the ones who look female enough to get an uncanny-valley thing going.

As far as I know, there aren't any prominent, attractive, charismatic TGs out there who could make people empathize. Yet they're trying to push this particular sensitivity training session through in a fraction of the time that it took to sway people on homosexuals. And it sounds like they're sabotaging their other efforts, if the football players didn't stray from the script until the TGs came out. Were I a member of one of the other designated victim groups, I might be a little miffed that I'd spent all these years browbeating people and twisting their arms to get them to approve of me, and now they're laughing at me again because I'm standing next to a drag queen.

Blogger James Sullivan April 06, 2015 8:24 PM

I believe it was all an elaborate exercise on the part of a very creative Literature professor to teach Kafka to the football players.

Excellent idea, Batman! Much less vibrancy on campus that way. Forward!

I think the football players should have all attended the event wearing huge dunce caps with "Kill the chickens to scare the monkeys" written on them in Chinese. But then, the femtards wouldn't get the reference, and in any event, they'd undoubtedly support the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution even if they knew. Hell, they're doing a lemonade-stand version of it right now.

"Alpha Males Pass Collective Shit Test. Film at 11."

Anonymous Brian April 06, 2015 9:13 PM

Speaking of safe spaces and football, I am reminded of George Carlin.

In football the object is for the quarterback, also known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! - I hope I'll be safe at home!

no, they didn't.

they were brow beaten into attending an event they had no interest in and now they're being brow beaten for not having sufficient interest in the event they had no interest in.

they will pass the Shit Test when they start accusing the faggots and womynz of 'othering' and 'oppressing' them and other racist behavior.

as i pointed out at the very beginning of the thread.

This reminds me of when I was I college and I went to a weekend gay youth conference in DC subsidized by the taxpayers. There was over a thousand in the youth conference zone and they where going around the room with a mic for ideas. This either butch dike or fem guy said that the streets should be made safe for sex workers and whatever it was got a decent amount of support. I signaled for the mic and said " we should try to have options so people don't need to sell their bodies, and I have been an EMT ambulance driver for 2 years and don't think it's realistically possible for the streets to be safe for EMTs much less people selling their bodies". At least that's what I thought I said because they acted like I said "I kill baby seals for a living". Even then I had too much contact with reality to fit in to the hivemind.

OT: Vox Invades Canada, ay?.

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/70987

From the link:

This being said, it’s time for those of us on the Right to acknowledge something else that may be uncomfortable—we do not owe the Left anything.

Anything.
We do not owe them respect.
We do not owe them courtesy.
We do not owe them “fair play.”
We do not owe them the normal restraints of a civil society that operates under polite discourse and civil persuasion.

They want to play rough? Then they need to be on the receiving end of it as well. And if they cry, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!”, then simply remind them that we’re giving them what they indicated that they wanted. They did to others, so they must have wanted it done to them.

I used to hang out at a campus coffee shop in the late '90s. They would frequently host poetry slams that were invariably dominated by angry, aggressive, radfem lesbians. On night, one of these radfems was reciting a graphically sexual lesbian poem when a friend of mine started heckling her by insisting that, since women don't have penises, they can have lesbian sex but they can't actually fuck each other since fucking is penetrative. Drove the lezzies NUTS. Good times.

Awwww, man.....what a gyp! SI didn't reprint any of said snide mocking comments. There must have been comedy gold a plenty.

He estimated that there were 105 players in attendance
I haven't seen a silly campus rally of this type since the mid-90s. Unless they've gotten really popular in the past few years, 105 track-suited football players would likely constitute a majority.
