The refutation of Freud

In case you weren't convinced that psychology is a pseudoscience, this should do the trick:
Let me be perfectly clear: Larry Correia and Brad Torgersen (who really seems to more or less have tagged along on Larry’s coattails) are not in the same league as Theodore Beale. Larry and Brad are frightened, well fed little puppies sitting on top of a large pile of meaty bones and snarling because there are one or two they can’t have, and feeling justified in their fear because some skinny kittens have managed to slip away with a few of the bones and gnaw on them in peace.

Theodore Beale, on the other hand, is Cerberus sitting on top of the bone pile breathing fire and wreaking mayhem for the joy and the attention of upsetting everyone, puppies and kitties alike. I’ve been searching for ten years now and have not found a single redeeming characteristic in Beale. He’s a vile person with vile opinions, and he’s an absolutely atrocious writer. If it weren’t for the fact that he was raised with money and privilege, he would almost certainly be serving twenty to life somewhere, because he either acted on or got caught acting on his beliefs. He is someone outside the scope of psychotherapy. If you were to ask him, he would tell you there is nothing wrong with him, he’s just fine the way he is – and that is why he is outside the scope of therapy.

He doesn’t need to be saved, society needs to be protected from him – and then maybe someone (not me) can work on saving him. And I speak as someone who works with violent people, entitled people, people who abuse, on a regular basis. If he were free to act on his impulses with impunity, people would suffer. I can only be grateful he’s not particularly impulsive.

Right now, it serves Theodore Beale very well to borrow the Sad Puppy meme and create his own offshoot, the Rabid Puppies. He is getting attention and hate, and he thrives on that. It’s what he lives for. For now, while they serve his purposes, he is keeping the Sad Puppies protected from his fire – until they no longer serve his purposes.

And I suspect Correia and Torgersen know it. They are very careful to walk the line between distancing themselves from him and not distancing themselves too much. They have only recently acknowledged that it wasn’t the Sad Puppy slate that swept the Hugo nominations this year, it was the Rabid Puppy slate. They haven’t admitted (at least publicly) that it was Beale’s invitation of Gamergaters – people who are perfectly willing to commit illegal acts including doxxing and making rape and murder threats (and in at least one case, an attempt) – to exclude specifically women, and specifically minority women, from their own particular fandom (video games).

And yet (Correia and Torgersen claim) it is not about sexism. It is not about racism. It is about fighting against ideological purity. To borrow a meme, it is about ethics in gamer journalism.

Here’s the final, worst piece of all of this. By now, the Sad Puppies have realized what they have unleashed. They realize (at least privately) that they overreacted, that they were the bad actors against an opponent that only existed in their heads – but they can never publicly admit it, not without having the hell hound they unleashed turn on them. If they distance themselves from Beale too much, they risk being slapped by the same forces that they opened the door to theHugosfor. They might be subject to doxxing and threats and actions. They will have Beale’s venom spewed over them.
Yeah, somehow I doubt Larry and Brad are shaking in their boots that I am going to attack them. I know the SJWs would love it if I would do so. But that's not going to happen. I didn't fall for the divide-and-conquer tactics when they tried to get me to disavow Roosh and Roissy, and I'm not about to fall for it now.

You don't need to be best friends to be allies. You only need to be shooting in the same direction. The weakness of the moderates, and the reason they are so reliably ineffective, is that they would much rather shoot at their allies than at their enemies.

The amusing thing is the way the "psychotherapist" tries to turn a very real enemy into something that is supposedly existing only in our heads... even as that enemy has been shrieking in full-throated outrage against us for the last two week. And then, she turns around and blames everything on #GamerGate, when there are only two confirmed #GamerGaters in Rabid Puppies, myself and Daddy Warpig.

The lesson, as always, is this: SJWs always lie.

Let them shriek. It won't be the last time. Cerberus has a LOT more bones to crack.

She must be too dense and self-absorbed to realize that you have a long-standing professional association through Alpha Game with an actual, real, honest-to-God, practicing professional Dr. Helen Smith, who has said on a number of occasions that you and the Alpha Gamers and the broader Ilkdom are just pleasant enthusiasts who are perfectly fine and nice to deal with provided you don't charge in slinging insults firsts.

That is funny.

And what am I , and the rest of the rabid puppies? Are we uncontrollable, ravening destroyers as well? Or perhaps we're mind-numbed robots, taking our orders without question?

Or do we even exist? Does Vox loom so large in their heads that they can't see the army, rendering us all a faceless drones whose only will is the will of our Dark Lord?

You know, they created us. After all, the awarding of Hugos to unreadable dreck is the major cause of rabies in puppies. And by continuing this nonsense, they feed us, arm us, and heal us.

It really is amazing.

Oh God, the idea of Larry Correia cowering in terror! LOL!

I haven't read much of Brad Torgersen's stuff, but from what I've seen of his response to critics it's nearly as laughable in his case too. Why not say Wright and Kratman are terrified of Vox while you're at it?

If you were to ask him, he would tell you there is nothing wrong with him, he’s just fine the way he is – and that is why he is outside the scope of therapy.

For some reason, this line really reminds me of Soviet justifications for "reeducation". You need therapy so you will be just like everyone else. It is wrong to have a different idea from the approved politically correct thoughts. We have to fix you.

This kind of thinking turns my stomach. Just the same way they are saying now that the Holy Catholic Church needs to change their teachings to conform with new societal "norms".

It is all good though, if you are not catching flak, you are not over the target.

Now, if I were Vox, I'd schedule a half-dozen counseling sessions with her, to see what best practices she recommends as a professional to overcome my case of chronic vileness. I'd pay her premium rate even, so she didn't have to hassle with the bureaucracy...

One of the first things they teach you in psychology school is to never, not ever, diagnose someone second-hand at a distance.
Fairly sure it's a breach of ethics in their psychologist code or oath or whatever.
But they never enforce it, because let's be honest, all psychologists are severely broken, damaged, cognitively challenged individuals without the chops to make it into dentistry school.
Just pity the poor dear and top off her Zoloft prescription.

Anonymous Nex April 17, 2015 11:47 AM

Honestly, this is not refutation of Freud, this is actually vindication of Freud. Because this steaming pile of crap this SJW idiot wrote is textbook example of psychological projection.

This is what they do: they abandon former allies and attack them at first chance to gain something. So, they assume everyone's like them.

Now, imagine VD attacks Brad or Larry over something. Or they attack them. How exactly would that mean SJWs won? Would either of Brad, Larry and VD suddenly abandon his principles and side with SJWs against former allies? Of course not. Any disagreement between Lary/Brad and VD would be just that, their disagreement. Everything they did together in the past would still stand. But, for SJWs that is incomprehensible. When they denounce someone it's time to completely rewrite history: "We've always been at war with Eastasia."

They have no principles, no sense of loyalty and they can understand only short term goals. And they assume everyone is like them.

Blogger Joshua Dyal April 17, 2015 11:48 AM

Love how she refers to Delany as "the first black man to win a Nebula". Not "the first NAMBLA supporter to win a Nebula." I think I might go and correct her!

Anonymous 10900209 April 17, 2015 11:48 AM

One of the many good things that GamerGate has accomplished is to give every imbecile with a blog an opportunity to reveal the depths of their dumbfuck credulity by parroting the SJW party-line about GG being "a movement to harass women out of the game industry."

I don't know why, exactly, but it seems like none of them can resist putting that in every article they write anymore.

Freud actually had a lot of good ideas, imo. His theories about projection, for instance, we see constantly evinced in the ravings of these creeps. Idiot psychoanalysists don't necessarily invalidate psychoanalysis!

BluntForceTrauma - or, charitably, astounding and irresponsible ignorance.

Speaking for myself, I have no charity left for these sorts of claims. If out of ignorance you libel someone about something that can easily be checked, then your negligence of research is as bad as outright lying. Making accusations of mental illness and criminal activity in a public forum is no light matter. Also, I'm certain that many of those SJW's who loudly opine on the topic and repeat falsehoods like "Gamergate death threats" are refusing to do the research specifically in order to avoid finding out that it isn't true.

Psychoanalysis is pseudoscience.

Psychology isn't pseudoscience per se. For exampel, a sub-field like neuropsychology is more or less an exact science and therewith far more scientific in its approach than the pretty dogmatic and quasi-religious sub-field of pseudoscience.

Greg Cochran's take on that field:

yes, the pre-1930s psychology that he speaks so approvingly of is the "Descriptive Psychology" which i've mentioned many times.

Freudian and Jungian and all the rest of the 'talking cures' fall under the "Therapeutic Psychology" rubric.

the old DSM manuals were the product of Descriptive Psych. the new DSM manuals are a perversion created by the Therapeutic entryists.

it is important ( for the neuro-deviants ) to destroy and conceal the understanding and research that the Descriptives produced because
IF you don't recognize these pathologies
THEN it's much harder to defend yourself against them.

You get more projection from these rabbits than a twenty screen AMC Theaters Megaplex. They turn on their own whenever some group has outlived its usefulness. As far as walking lines, in the start of her little outburst ,she mentioned that she is "an LGBTQ ally" and that was the first time I've seen a Q on the end of that string of letters.

I assume the Q is for "Queer" but how exactly is a Queer differnt from a Lesbian or a Gay? For that matter, why do they need to distinquish between "Lesbian" and "Gay"? Can't both male and female homosexuals be called "Gay"? Seems to be the whole thing could be edited down to "GBT" but...

They insist on their differences, don't they? Call a female homosexual "gay" instead of "lesbian" and you're oppressing her. And now I assume some group has popped up insisting they be called "queer" in order to... what? Validate their lives? Empower their self-expression? Whatever the reason, these groupist types are incredibly divisive among themselves.

Seems a contradiction, but it isn't because they're not groupists for the sake of the group, they're greedy little shits who want to use the power of a group to push other people around. Once a group is successful, they start forming sub-groups to try and push the members of the larger group around.

They assume we're just like them.

O'Danu: "Gamergaters – people who are perfectly willing to commit illegal acts including doxxing and making rape and murder threats"

This is the Fallacy of Hasty Generalization. Even if this is true of some of those who wave the GG-flag, she offers no reason at all for painting all GG-ers with this overly broad brush.

O'Danu: "He doesn’t need to be saved, society needs to be protected from him – and then maybe someone (not me) can work on saving him."

Rather than argue with Vox's positions, she simply chooses to call him names and slight his character -- that is, of course, just the Ad Hominem (abusive) Fallacy.

O'Danu: "And yet (Correia and Torgersen claim) it is not about sexism. It is not about racism. It is about fighting against ideological purity. To borrow a meme, it is about ethics in gamer journalism."

This is simply the Straw Man Fallacy (a deliberate misrepresentation of the opponent's position)

Fallacy much, Maureen O'Danu? Not only does she engage in these (and other) informal fallacies -- she then demonstrates that she has no idea what she's talking about:

"he [Vox] would almost certainly be serving twenty to life somewhere, because he either acted on or got caught acting on his beliefs"

She does not understand that Vox is already acting on his beliefs -- and quite freely as far as I can tell.

She tops it off by suggesting that Correia and Torgersen should apologize for "what they unleashed" -- namely, Vox Day (as if they were Vox Day's legal guardian). She writes:

"Brad and Larry can do to save their reputations is to apologize, show up at WorldCon and go to the business meeting and participate in cleaning up the mess they made."

Absurd.

So tired "let me be perfectly clear" intros, signifying the speaker or writer is a pompous, neoprog authoritarian right off the bat.

So Vox is evil because you don't like his opinions? Truly this signifies our troubled age, the fact that mere opinions may cause such suffering! In the words of Indiana Jones' serpent loving pilot, show some backbone will ya? Or at least provide some evidence or refutation however slight, if his opinions bother you so much.

Some top notch projection going on there.

I think shows like Survivor have been so popular because it is more or less a microcosm of how liberalism works, They make alliances to gain advantage and position and then cut loose those who are weak or threatening until only their own brand of liberalism survives.

And they assume we do the same.

It is also interesting to note that groups of female friends do exactly the same.

I leave the following comment on her site:

Ma'am, I read your indepth psychological analysis of Brad Togersen and Larry Correia with avid interest. I am one of the promoters and founders of the Sad Puppies 3 effort, and also a writers whose work has been published both by Tor Books, and by Castalia House, which is Theodore Beale's imprint. I have been nominated for a record-breaking six nominations thanks to the efforts of these men and my readers, one of which was later disqualified.

Hence I find myself wondering as to my psychology. Please explain my own mind to me. Am I afraid of Theodore Beale's destructive and venomous powers, and afraid publicly to admit the same? Am I gloating over having deceived Mr Torgersen and Mr Correia into promoting my works? Do I feel the impulse to apologize to whomever it was -- I was not clear on the details -- that is rightfully offended that these gentlemen asked their audience to read and nominate my works?

Please tell me more clearly what I am thinking, and do not leave me suspended in uncertainty. Am I a puppy greedy for what I have not earned, as Mr Correia is, or a destroyer lusting merely to inflict harm on the innocent, as Mr Beale is?

Since you know me as well, if not better, than you know Mr Beale, Mr Correia, and Mr Torgersen, all of whom are complete strangers to you, I look forward with great eagerness for you insightful and trenchant observations of my case, and your caring yet loving prescription for how the healing might begin with me.

Hmm...who does that remind me of? Some public figure...maybe a politician...Of course! Barack Obama!
Yep, both his Immaculateness and this woman are working from the same script written by Alinsky. I am getting very tired of all this "argument by assertion," in which merely stating something means that it's true. What is stated MUST be true, because it's based on narratives learned from intersectionalist theolog---err, I mean theory.
I see that my $40 for Hugo voting rights is also working to lure moths to the flames of Cerberus and his Puppies...

Blogger Kentucky Packrat April 17, 2015 12:57 PM

I left a comment that will get deleted. Of course, I forgot to cut and paste it, so I'll have to summarize:

I'm getting motion sickness from the changes in story. The Powers That Be can't decide if Larry, Brad, and Vox are the Evil Overlords, or if they're angry toads about to get squashed, or if Larry and Brad are being controlled/overpowered by the evil Vox and his ilk.

And there's no way in Torment that I would describe Larry Correia as a "frightened puppy". That's a sign of a complete break with reality.

Long time the malodorous foe he sought—
So rested he by the Numnum tree
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Blubberhock, with sibilants of name,
Came waddling through the lapine wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the blubberhock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

You were engaging in wild slander based on your own fears and biases against people you have never met, never read, never engaged with at all.

You were projecting your fears an apprehensions about yourself and the people you side with onto an outcast "Other."

Ironic, since them themselves exhibit so many truly unhinged tendencies.

"He is someone outside the scope of psychotherapy." "I ...hold a license to practice in the state of Missouri. My “day job” is as a psychotherapist in my own practice, and I have specialized over the last ten years on issues of poverty, trauma, and personality disorders, with a lot of depression and anxiety thrown in. "

She is so stupid she thinks by saying she isn't going to analyze you only to say you are too insane to analyze, and thinks a couple weasel words "I am not going to try to diagnose anyone" will get her out of a willful HIPAA violation.

While anyone can file a complaint it would be best if it was someone that could make a physical visit to the offices & play phone tag with low IQ affirmative action tokens that don't want to do their job, along with her state board.

•The fine for a first time infringement by someone who did not know they violated HIPAA could be as low as $100 or as high as $50,000.
She certainly can claim stupidity for not knowing but it is a willful violation.
A Privacy Rule infraction can be considered criminal and may lead to prosecution by the Department of Justice if someone deliberately acquires or discloses a person’s health information; the fine is $50,000 and up to one year in jail.

I accidently posted this in the sea thread if someone could delete it.

It really fascinates me that people get this upset at our host. The guy really isn't that controversial. I 'm not convinced that he's right on free trade and I definitely don't agree with him on the Trinity, but besides that, what has he written that really that controversial? Most people I deal with on a day to day basis would agree with a majority of what he's written about.

Is it because he's popular and has a public platform? Is that is? Maybe they're afraid that most people will begin to realize that they agree with him? Maybe that's it?

The way these people describe Vox you would think he has a red lightsaber, black cape, and a hissing black breathing mask.

All covered in little red Nazi swastikas.

Red Nazi swastikas painted with the blood of puppies and kittens.

That he himself killed.

With his bare hands.

When person A states an unpopular or even offensive belief, and person B comes to view person A as something worse then a violent felon, I'm pretty sure it's B with the mental problem.

Besides...we all know he bought the red paint.

My favorite is the one I saw someone reference the other day and that turns out to be true: he would happily kill infants if he herd his God tell him to do so. This has the added element of being psychotic as well as controversial.

BigGaySteve, it would be ungraceful for me to mock a fellow author.

But your idea contains the trace of a science fiction idea, whereas neither 'Yes Virginia' nor 'If You Were an Upside Planet, My Love' contains any science fiction at all.

Mine was a mainstream story akin to ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE, and his was some form of slipstream or magical realism or extended metaphor of a style very much not to my tastes. Nonetheless, I salute him for making the nomination: such things are not done without talent and effort.

If Dejah Thoris had left John Carter, and all of Mars suddenly suffered reverse gravity, I doubt the Warlord of Mars would have either saved the goldfish, abandoned anyone to die, nor surrendered her. And there would have been more swordplay.

And Edgar Rice Burroughs would have AT LEAST posited a Tenth Martian Ray which only causes gravity reversals on living things, hence leaving rivers and buildings intact, as well as the envelope of the atmosphere.

Blogger Joshua Dyal April 17, 2015 2:50 PM

Is it because he's popular and has a public platform?

Yes, of course. Because without that, they can pretend that his views are NOT normal and non-controversial. Because, Pauline Kael-like, they don't personally know anyone who thinks like that, of course.

Anonymous Stickwick April 17, 2015 2:50 PM

Do you mean aside from the hysterical far-left? Considering that they have to measure what upsets them in such small units that they're termed "microaggressions," coupled with the fact that Vox is 23 on a scale of 1 to 10, well, it's kind of amazing that their brains haven't exploded from apoplexy.

As for why more normal people are kind of shocked by Vox, I figure it's because he transcends the usual apologetic, self-conscious, half-ashamed way that a lot of people express non-PC observations and opinions.

I can tell from the sentence structure that it is meant to be an /ad hominem tu quoque/, but apparently based on something someone else did, which makes it an eructation of logical fallacy so illogical it does not even have a Latin name.

Anonymous Steve April 17, 2015 3:00 PM

John Wright - Ah, well, I actually would prefer to call Mr Beale by his right name, myself. It is not talismanic; I just find nicknames show too much disrespect.

At school, I tried to get people to call me "Ace", but it didn't take. They called me "Thicky", but my Mum said they were just jealous of how handsome I am.

Now, that was disrespectful. (The thicky bit, my Mum was just being honest)

But is Vox Day a mere nickname?

Only the man himself can say for sure, but I think of it as a nom de guerre.

Great leaders throughout history, like Richard Coeur de Lion, El Cid, Charles "the hammer" Martel were celebrated - often by foe as well as friend - through the epithets given to them.

Of course, Vox hasn't - yet - launched a holy crusade to liberate Christendom, but his sterling work towards liberating the Hugos means that to my mind Vox Day is more honorific than sobriquet.

To the Social Justice Weenies, he is, of course, Cerberus, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, the Moriarty of Science Fiction, Morgoth, Darth Sidious, Khan Noonien Singh, Ragnar Danneskold, and the Master of Ballantrae.

When they call him by his Christian name, they do so to comfort themselves during the darkest hours of the night.

Everybody needs a little comfort at 3 am, when they are alone and unable to sleep. When all they can hear is the wind soughing eerily through the trees, and the house around them's nocturnal murmurs.

What was that? No, no... it was just the pipes. Just the wind. Not - him. He's just a man! His name is Theodore Beale! Just a man! Where did I put those sleeping pills? Oh... please let that be the wind...

Blogger Salt April 17, 2015 3:02 PM

But let us not pretend that you don't know exactly what you're doing. You are silencing me -- one woman to another -- and not allowing me to have a voice. Of course she is trying to misrepresent you, allowing slander and innuendo (her own and others) to stand. That is how they work. Look at the unbelievable lies she told in the original post; how could you ever believe a woman like that?
