Giving up on civilized standards

Even if you are a blank slatist who subscribes to a purely cultural theory of African dyscivicism, how is a retreat from imposing civilized standards on disruptive young vibrants going to improve either their behavior or their odds in life?
Board members of California's Oakland Unified School District unanimously voted on Wednesday to cease suspending students for what they call "willful defiance." Those behaviors can include swearing/yelling at teachers, refusing direct orders, texting, and storming out of class, to name a few.

The reason? Concern that too many black students are being suspended for willful defiance.

One sophomore student, Dan'enicole Williams, told the San Francisco Gate, "They never take time out, if someone is sleeping in class, to ask what’s wrong. They may be acting that way because they didn’t eat the night before.”

"We’re getting pushed out of schools,” she added. “They don’t care about us.”

Along with suspensions, the new policy will also include bans on expulsions and transfers of students to other schools for multiple infractions.
This is not a society that is going to survive three more generations intact. I mean, anyone can be wrong about what the future will bring, but I simply don't see any credible scenario where this sort of absolute lunacy doesn't have considerable knock-on effects.

These optimistically misnamed "students" don't want to be there and there is observably no purpose in them being there since they're not even going to be held to minimal standards of behavior, so what is the point of denying their free will while simultaneously degrading the educational experience of all the other children?

Ah yes, preserving the narrative. The narrative must be preserved at absolutely all costs, or else Hitler will holocaust the Jews again. If I was a poor black single mother hoping that my child would somehow improve his lot by obtaining an education, I'd be up in arms about this nonsense.

That's right, you complete dolt. That's because they already KNOW what's wrong; someone is sleeping in class.

I also occasionally slept in class and my principal, who taught us, didn't mind. But then, i was an adult so the teachers didn't care.

I also slept during an exam. Still got a B.

My bride runs into that all the time. She has a ready supply of quotes from old Civil Rights leaders about how much a good education should be valued. A number of single moms get thrown for a loop when she brings those up.

A good thing for her is when an male athlete sleeps in class. She tells the coach, and that kid NEVER sleeps or talks back again. Massive and immediate discomfort for the kid at practice.

But for the girls... it doesn't work. The coach will start pulling them from her class and then ask for the State to pay for a tutor.

She is seeing some results from the Long March. A number of kids will come up to her now after graduating, and thank her for not holding them to a lower standard because of their race. Their single parents will howl, but a few have started the walk to civilization. For each one that does it, there following generations who might have a shot of escaping the cycle.

Every semester at the community college where I share information with potential learners, I will have some students, usually non-white, who get a blank glazed look on their faces when I inform them that to pass the course, they have to actually submit their assignments. They show up for the final exam, never having turned in one paper to that point, and then can't understand when I tell them that even if they ace the final, they will fail. Some actually want to argue with me. I just nip it in the bud, and say if they have a problem with it to go through the grade appeal process. So far, none have ever done so.

At a high school my dad taught at, he was challenged by one of his black students, asking what he'd do if the kid punched him. My dad said the punch would never get thrown because he'd have the kid down with a knee in his back before he could touch him.

This kid went home, told his mom my dad threatened him, and she raised Cain about it with the school board. Nothing happened to my dad (this was before things got really bad in the school system), but he was taken before a "tribunal"of concerned parents and teachers to answer questions. He walked out of one session because they suggested he take anger management courses.

That was the last year he taught. He quit and activated with the Navy to spend four years overseas in the Middle East. He preferred dealing with the Shias and Sunnis over school boards and idiotic parents.

I want to college at Cal and lived in Oakland during my time there, and participated in some volunteer projects with the Oakland school district. Based on that first-hand knowledge, three observations:

1) No one cares about blacks and/or Oakland, and for very good reasons;

2) No European-American child goes to school there or will be affected by this black-on-black issue;

3) Anyone involved with Oakland, as with Baltimore, deserves what they get, good and hard.

now mostly they have simply started letting the great bloated beasts fight it out until they have no more energy left to fight with. Which... lets face it... really doesn't take that long.

These students have internalized the regressive narrative that nothing is their responsibility because they're victims and are owed what they desire without having to do anything for it. The school system is in a panic, or perhaps death throes, because black men graduate at pathetically low rates. They'll push these young thugs through the system and then take pride that at least the criminals have high school diplomas. Blacks are being pushed out of the town by hipster techies, hispanic and south east Asian immigrants so the district is even more desperate to manipulate the numbers so they don't appear discriminatory. The dominant black political culture here idolizes violent criminals (a community mural at the local museum depicts Oscar Grant and Treyvon Martin as saints). One would *almost* deduce the people in charge were deliberately trying to keep them down. The left's racism is insidious and result in cohorts of sociopaths, aggrieved victims with an exaggerated sense of entitlement devoid of any sense of responsibility.

Blogger t.c. May 20, 2015 1:44 PM

As a public school teacher, the majority of us agree with you Vox. Almost everyone I've worked with and taught with is so pissed off about the lack of discipline and accountability. Everything is being allowed, treated as permissible, etc. No responsibility anymore. From what I've seen, the impetus for this has started in the home. Parents are demanding less and less discipline or responsibility, and the school boards and government are caving in for fear of less students. The entitlement I see increasing every year is driving me insane, figuratively. :)

Live outside the inner city and think you're immune? Not so fast:

Under a novel and now universal interpretation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is largely illegal (a violation of DOE regulations) to educate handicapped children separately.

Your typical child will now sit in 4th grade next to a kid with autism (and who throws 120 db screaming fits a few times a week, or threatens to stab classmates with a pen or pencil, or bites a staff member while being restrained from running out the doors and onto a 4 lane, 45 mph road.)

Your 1st grader will have a classmate who still wears diapers, whose butt the *teacher* will be cleaning.

Your IQ 125 10-year-old will be included in lessons dumbed down enough for the IQ 80 kid who will *never* learn long division and who reads at a 1st grade level. Your child will thus be bored to tears and eventually misbehave.

Your child's teacher, who *intentionally* avoided certification for "Special Ed," will be stuck attempting to simultaneously provide useful lessons to children across 4 or 5 SDs of ability while attempting to keep those at the bottom of the range, largely lacking in any self-control at all, from turning the classroom upside down. All of these examples are true stories, and but the tip of a very large iceberg.

Every teacher in the public school where my wife teaches 4th grade wants to quit. Every. Single. One.

They show up to work because, like tens of millions of other Americans, they have nowhere else to go to still pay their bills, raise their families and stay off the dole with the defectives.

Blogger Jourdan May 20, 2015 1:52 PM

One more point about Oakland. It is indeed a shithole. But it is not poor. I never saw so many cutting edge tech gadgets or $500+ luxury clothing items/shoes in my life. BMWs, Cadillacs, M-Benz, all very common, as is a lot of solid gold "jewelry".

If anyone tells you Oakland is poor, they are lying.

Blogger dc.sunsets May 20, 2015 1:57 PM

@ t.c., "no discipline."

My wife is convinced it's school boards worried about being sued by parents of belligerent students (many, but not all of whom are black). I wonder why no one is worried about a parent of a well-behaved student suing when their kid is injured by an out-of-control goblin?

I think this is the final death-dive of the public system. Any parent with a brain is pulling their kids in favor of an alternative, any alternative (home schooling is not always a good one for many people.) As this process progresses, eventually only the goblins will be left, and public support for the crushing tax burden will collapse. I see no other path ahead.

When I was in high school, I had an evening job stocking and bagging groceries at a store which had a smallish "projects wannabe" area nearby.

Saw lots and lots of people who would come in and buy steak, seafood, etc. purchased using food stamps, wearing lots of jewelry, and want you to carry their bags out to their Cadillacs.

Lots of the wealth in places like Oakland is not necessarily *real* wealth (i.e. earned and created by taking lower values things and turning them into higher value ones), but is transferred "wealth."

Nate, I'm far too young to have been around as they began to phase out corporal punishment. Sometimes, I wistfully think about what it would have been like... :)

As a teacher, only at the end of my 8th year, I've never wanted parents to butt out. I love collaboration with good parents, I am constantly sending home updates, asking for help, or any other guidance they can give me in relation to their individual children.

dc.sunsets - Trust me, I understand. Needing the paycheck is part of it. Having multiple degrees in the field is another. Most of it, though, and I know this sounds cliche, but whatever - I love what I teach, and I love when kids get excited about history. I tend to be very animated and dramatic and I love role playing events with the students, whatnot. That truly is why I went into the field and despite my NUMEROUS frustrations, that still wins out in the end. Do I think the end of public education is on the horizon? Yes, I do. But that will have to be a personal hurdle for another time.

Anonymous Oaktownie May 20, 2015 2:05 PM

Depends where in Oakland you go whether it's shitty or not. The worst areas are easy to avoid, though you can never escape the hood entirely except up in the hills where I live. That said, I'm hoping the influx of tech affluence lasts long enough for me to cash out and move, preferably out of California and out of the United States too. If your food and rent are subsidized, then it's easy to buy expensive consumer goods. One characteristic of the underclass is that they do spend money on stupid things as soon as they get it. They're incapable of thinking long-term which saving would entail.

Blogger swiftfoxmark2 May 20, 2015 2:06 PM

We could just stop trying to educate them entirely. It's clear that a student who is willing to cuss out his or her teachers and be a disruption in class doesn't want to be there. So why dump tax dollars into their education?

Remember, it was their choice to not "act white" and instead be as opposite of whites and they think they should be, which apparently includes trying to be a better person than their parents.

Blogger dc.sunsets May 20, 2015 2:07 PM

Two observations, Nate:
1. Not everyone is well-suited to home-school (including some who try) and alternatives often stink (most private schools are still on the age-grouped, Pavlovian-bell-rings public model.) I assume your approach is working, not that you care what I think.
2. My three sons did well in the local public (although that was before the SpEd inclusion model.) The system still had a school-within-a-school for academically-gifted students and a H.S. math team whose coach was the most gifted math instructor I've ever heard of, much less met.

Three sons. One full scholarship for academics, one about 3/5ths scholarship for academics who landed a highly paid co-op, the third finished college in 2.5 years and graduated at 20.

Degrees in Comp Sci, Mechanical Engineering and Comp Sci, all three very well employed, happily married to gals who all want a traditional family structure.

It was actually fun at the dinner table to discuss the silly stuff some of their teachers (from H.S. on to college) tried to sell. In reality, most of the leftist tripe just bounced right off them unnoticed.

The father of my niece told me how proud he is that his daughter is in a school with disabled children and know how to socialize with them. How socializing with people from all walks of life is more important than learning. I'm sitting there wanting to shake all family members sitting at the table and slap some sense into them. But I know speaking up will just drive them further down into insanity. How on earth can you be proud that you have some children in class who need special needs teachers which show up every 5 days or so? If you want to force that on your children why can't you do that outside of school, why do you have to shit on their education?

(Germany btw. I think that is done voluntarily here. Doesn't need a Disabilities Act. Lockstep into the decline.)

If my wife and I are still young enough when the system breaks enough to loosen the regulatory stranglehold, I envision opening a for-profit (or NFP, I'm not picky) school for motivated families. Strictly the 3-R's, those lacking self-control need not apply. An alternative to home- and un-schooling, offering guidance and instruction by those who actually are good at what they do, and recognize that the smartest person in the room may be the student. No express religion, no "values based" crap other than the shared values that underlie civil society.

The father of my niece told me how proud he is that his daughter is in a school with disabled children and know how to socialize with them. How socializing with people from all walks of life is more important than learning.

If what I hear is true, forcing the able into proximity with the disabled is having the same effect as affirmative action: filling a reservoir of resentment.

Kids in school today will grow into adults having zero empathy for the have-nots and the disabled in whose dysfunctions they were involuntarily immersed as kids. Eugenics is going to be very popular in 25-40 years.

Black-white dating is almost non-existent because of the ostracism by blacks of anyone who dates a white.”

All will not put the effort to homeschool, but almost everyone could do so if they would stop their selfish pursuits for a few years.

They are too stuck on themselves to not give their children a better education.

A parent can even learn things along with their children as they are older and plenty of outside resources exist to help out, especially in the later years.

A few rare cases may not be capable, but if my wife could handle 4 very unruly children (adopted from a horrid birth family) then anyone can. We didn't succeed like some do, but they know a fair bit more than these thugs, in spite of rejecting all we stood for, including education.

In NYC, students can be suspended, but it is a tedious process. The teacher must first conference with the student. Then the teacher must attempt to contact parents by phone and by mail. Then the teacher must write a referral to his/her supervisor. Then a referral to the student's Counselor. Then, to a Dean. Then the student will be given an in-house suspension. My supervisor was the nastiest person you never want to meet, so he usually returned my referrals unread. If there was a threat to safety, then a student good be removed immediately. I learned very quickly to "fear for my safety." Some of the Dean's would suspend a students for safety reasons, even when it wasn't really a problem. I had to make sure that the right Dean got my referrals.

I like to blame the Principals ad supervisors. Most of them were incompetent as teachers, so they got themselves fired up. The person I work for now is an incredibly stupid, nasty um,,,,,witch. I could write a book, but no one would believe that anyone could be that stupid and live.

Parent of an autistic child here. I won't get into all the details, but autistic children perform better and adapt to society (and can actually assimilate and be productive) when they are forced to interact with typical children.

I understand the sentiment to kick them out of the typical class (my two oldest are in the "Gifted and Talented" tracks), but understand why the schools do it. And before anyone tells me it is unfair or a burden on the typical kids, I fully agree that if a para professional (Specialized teacher) is not available to guide the child and keep them from disrupting the class, the child should not be there. I recognize this doesn't always happen, but it can (and should) happen. My two cents.

My experience is the decision is a combination of the schools looking to save money (because one regular teacher vs 5 special ed teachers) and the erroneous belief by parents that mainstreaming is benefitual for their kid --- which I can assure if any of you went into the school you would see that they would be much better off in special education classes where the teacher to student ratio were 5 to 1 or better instead of the regular class where is 25 to 1 .

Blogger hank.jim May 20, 2015 3:51 PM

I'm sure this is about the schools keeping attendance and thus, the money for each disruptive kid. Personally, I do think suspension isn't necessary is most cases when the schools should be doing the disciplining.

"swearing/yelling at teachers" detention at school.
"refusing direct orders" detention at school.
"texting" take away their phones
"storming out of class" detention at school.

Why suspend them when they should be made to do their homework during school hours. Besides, one they are suspended, they won't be used to the school schedule and they are likely to drop out.

I'm a bit hesitant on "bans on expulsions". It has to be a good reason to keep them there. At some point, they need to be moved to a school what works better for them, perhaps independent learning.

OpenID genericviews May 20, 2015 3:56 PM

it has nothing to do with creating a learning environment. Expulsion is not supposed to benefit the kid who is expelled. It is supposed to benefit all the rest so they can learn without being disrupted by trouble-makers. But now it is all about federal fee collection, based on number of days warm butts are sitting in chairs (at least long enough for attendence to be taken). If the teachers give up on that and start declaring everyone gets credit even if they don't show up, then word will go out that showing up is for suckas. And there are plenty of teachers will will do just that because it is easier on them.

On Sixth Street, drug dealing is tantamount to a bourgeois occupation. Chuck complains that his middle brother, Reggie, lacks the patience for “making slow money selling drugs hand to hand.” Instead, Reggie favors armed robberies, to the admiration of his mother, Miss Linda. “He fearless,” she says. “A stone-cold gangster.”
Ned, 43, supports himself in part by stealing credit cards and intercepting checks in the mail. When he and his girlfriend Jean, a crack addict, need money for property taxes, they lure a cousin of Reggie’s (Miss Linda’s second son) to their house with the promise of gossip about a former girlfriend. Waiting there is a man in a hoodie, who robs the cousin at gunpoint. The unintended punch line of the story: Ned and Jean also get income from working as foster-care parents, a fact that does not apparently give Goffman pause but that speaks volumes, sadly, about the quality of parenting in the area.

I'd rather parents and extended families saw to the needs of their own children wherever possible, accepting private charity when necessary, banding together for efficiency if desired. If your son is helped by being involved with other kids, then involve him, assuming he doesn't cause problems for the other kids. There are plenty of ways to do that that don't involve school.

If you want your kid to play the piano, you get private lessons, and no one has a problem with that. If you want her to dance, you enroll her in a private dance troupe, and no one has a problem with that. But if you want her to learn to read and write and get along with other human beings, suddenly that's a near-insurmountable task that should only be attempted by government-approved experts as a service that should be provided to all for free.

It makes no sense.

“A stone-cold gangster.” It would be a mistake, however, to think of drug dealing as a peaceful activity. Early on, a disgruntled supplier firebombs Chuck’s car. Chuck responds by shooting at the supplier’s home. In 2007, at the end of Goffman’s chronicle, Chuck is fatally shot in the head while standing outside a Chinese restaurant, one of three shootings that night in Philadelphia. The killer, Goffman writes, was “trying to make it at the bottom rung of a shrinking drug trade.”

On SpEd students in regular classes, this should be decided on a case-by-case basis. Not all are disruptive. My daughter has autism and is extremely well-behaved at school. She understands the routine in the classroom and follows it. She also has a 4.0. She is pulled out of class for a couple hours per week for speech and occupational therapy (for fine motor skills). Otherwise, she doesn't get special ed help because she doesn't need it. Even the speech and OT should be unnecessary after 4th grade if she continues doing so well.

Students like my daughter shouldn't be put in a separate class with disruptive, in some cases even violent, students just because of an autism diagnosis.

The disruptive and violent kids should be educated separately though. As should the low IQ children who drag the other kids down.

It's interesting to contrast this with the results obtained by missionaries who opened schools in the south after the end of the Civil War. Thomas Sowell discusses the missionaries and their impact in Black Rednecks and White Liberals.

The missionaries were part of a movement in the New England region of the U.S. to help the children of newly freed slaves. The churches that participated were generally descendant from the Puritans, and they still held to the Puritan work ethic.

Their black students performed very well, comparable to whites in many instances, despite having recently endured slavery and a horrific war. Where he was able to trace life outcomes they proved to be very good as well despite those blacks existing in a world where institutional racism was a real thing that could get you beaten or killed. Not shaming language thrown around by a SJW tumblrina.

And where he was able to trace family lines...the positive outcomes continued. The missionaries had instilled a successful, civilized culture in the freed slaves they worked with.

But then I somehow doubt those missionaries allowed anyone to sleep in class. Or threaten a teacher. You probably got food if you were hungry. But you probably also got your butt beat if you even dared to talk back.

I agree with Vox's time to civilization hypothesis. But it does seem possible for a civilized people to force civilization and assimilation upon an uncivilized people and make it stick. At least when the ratios (civilized:uncivilized) are within a certain range.

It may not have the same roots. One of Sowell's own recurrent themes is how formerly successful and respectable black families have shattered against the growing ghetto culture. I wouldn't expect, say, English or German families to shatter so easily. Never the less, if you impose rules of civilized behavior and stick to them it seems possible to civilize in a shorter time span.

As a teacher, I've dealt with classrooms where there isn't any good/fast/easy way to get rid of disruptive kids. It tanks the whole room in short order. There is no way this can end well, because teachers that actually want to teach will leave (be driven out), and you'll be left with credentialed predators who have no interest in teaching, only hanging out, being "cool," and hunny-hunting (or stud-hunting for the female teachers). Once the district gets too toxic for good teachers, recovery will be impossible, because the union will make trouble when you try to flush the system.

Oh, well. Burning it down all the way makes clearing the land to rebuild easier, sometimes.

You can't set up a system for autodidacts. (Actually, can you think of a bigger example of something from the department of redundancy department?)

The presence of para(professionals) to help ASD (or other) kids is hardly a panacea. The kid in my wife's class has a para...and recently threw a complete fit, complete with a scrum of adults holding him (a 10 year old) down on the floor while he screamed every swear word any sailor knows at every adult. My wife is in her 50's and has never once been called all those names.

No. Kids who are disruptive damage the learning process for kids who aren't. If an ASD kid gets along, fine. No harm, no foul. But I as a parent would have taken one look at the chaos now in the school where my wife teaches (and where all three of my sons attended K-6), turn to my wife and say, "Homeschooling. Now."

This could all work out. If they're allowed to leave without getting in trouble, I suspect a lot of troublemakers will just leave... wander right out of school. Probably tough luck for any gas stations or fast food places nearby, but that's what you get for doing business in the ghetto.

I'm agreeing more and more with Thomas Jefferson and Albert Jay Nock. Jefferson: only a small and elite minority of students should be educated past basic learning. Nock: the world doesn't need Emersons, it needs Edisons. Training > Education. Besides, most people don't even know how to utilize their education to squeeze value out of it. Look at how many underemployed and unemployed college graduates there are. Those kids are everyone's idea of an educated person, but in reality they are just bank fodder.

Except many of those kids prefer school to their home life, because they can sell drugs, fight, and game girls.

"Dan'enicole"...heh.

Blogger Bard May 20, 2015 9:17 PM

Went to a college graduation last weekend for a friend. He was graduating from Bethel College as a Physician Assistant. Not a single graduate of the program was black. The majority of the criminal justice grads, education grads, and whatever the fuck "conflict resolution is" grads were almost all black. Polite clapping for all PA students. Whooping and hollering, dog barking, yelling as every Tashan-da-Lequin-she Dan'enicole had their name called as they crossed the stage. The director had to ask half of them how to pronounce the names. I was very entertained and enjoyed it immensely. Their degrees are next to worthless, but hey, at least they completed something.

Why don't the Oakland teachers just show up with a laptop and read all day or watch movies and collect a pay check? Who gives a shit what the students are doing? Do it until fired.

Anonymous Curlytop May 20, 2015 10:05 PM

@ Bard
Hell, some industrious teachers can charge $ for the students to use their storage closets as sex rooms to receive some extra income on the side. Just make sure the retards don't leave incriminating evidence on their smart phones (See Stone Mt. Ga story regarding 8th grade teacher who did just that for free).

Homeschool or die..yep. I liked one of the comments above that in a few years public school will only be for the poor and most successful families will be homeschooling. At least they can run sex closets in public school as a crash course in entrepreneurship.

@Bard,
The latest national statistics from last year show that we've entered 50% of public school kids are low income. The mass exodus has been pronounced in the past two years from my personal observation as well as friends in two other states. It's so widespread that many solidly Christian home-education programs are vetting the new families thoroughly before admission to keep the thuggary at bay.

Well it works out in places with the castle law. This guy was lucky one of the unarmed teens he shot in the middle of a school day had a probation ankle bracelet on him & was the first use of the upgraded castle law. So the cops didn't even take his gun. http://www2.readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=361731

Here's a thought...

Make them eligable for their first EBT card at 12. Then along with the card, automatically give them a high school diploma and also a college diploma for a degree in polysci.

Why make them go through the white man's system... it all be racisss anyway. When they're thoroughly equipped with all the right paper but none of the responsibilities, they can then go to their local employer and apply for a job as an affirmative action quota hire.

I think my plan is wonderful, don't you?

Anonymous Rolf May 21, 2015 12:48 AM

I should note, though, that the current gig I have is FAR from a worst-case scenario. It's more like a pretty good scenario. It's more like what most people hope their school is like. Nothing is perfect, and no school is a best fit for every student, but most of the parents are supportive and somewhat clued in, the admin back the teachers, and all the teachers I have to work with are doing pretty well with what they have (in terms of space, funding, students, etc.) They actually talk to each other and coordinate things in a useful way (yay!), a much appreciated rarity. But not every school is blessed with an open and honest principal and lead teachers.

Charter schools are a mixed bag, but quite a few are very good. My youngest two went to a decent charter school run by dedicated teachers that managed to get the wherewithal to start their own school (with a local church's assistance). The classes were held to 25 students, discipline was enforced (all student cell phones were turned into the office at the start of class and picked up after school, for example) and half of the teachers were retired engineers/scientists. Much better than the vibrant public school that serves my area.

**same Anonymous as above, with autistic daughter**

I agree with the homeschool or die sentiment. The schools here aren't as bad as inner city schools, owing to our rural lack of diversity, but it's still bad for the kids. This town is swamped with methheads and single mothers, whose progeny are in the public school system. I want my kids out, if only my husband will agree.

The kids' names around here aren't as nonsensical as the ones some black ghetto kids have, but my husband still makes disparaging noises about it. I blame single mothers for so many little redneck boys having effeminate-sounding names.

The white lower classes are lagging behind the black lower classes in the race to return to barbarism, but they're doing their best to catch up. I see some very disturbing trends in our poor white community here. Let's hope to God white communities don't deteriorate to the point black ghettos have, but I think that hope is bound to be disappointed. The rate of single motherhood, around here anyway, has skyrocketed. God help us when their bastards reach adulthood.

Oops, I just noticed the instruction about anonymous comments being deleted? I didn't notice it before, maybe because I was typing while feeding the baby. I don't have an account of any of the types listed because I don't comment online much.

I'm sorry I didn't see it. I hope it isn't too annoying to do whatever has to be done to delete comments.

The only problem is that Sowell has researched similar comparisons in the 20th century and in other regions of the U.S. (Inside American Education). The conclusions were also similar: black students performing near or at the level of white students when the black students were in schools that were run properly.

Even those of us who hate progressives and the public school system probably do not fully comprehend the damage they have done.

Your plan does not provide scads of jobs at taxpayer expense for female "teachers" and "administrators". The Party Will Not Approve!

Blogger Good Will May 21, 2015 10:55 AM

Every semester at the community college where I share information with potential learners, I will have some students, usually non-white, who get a blank glazed look on their faces when I inform them that to pass the course, they have to actually submit their assignments. They show up for the final exam, never having turned in one paper to that point, and then can't understand when I tell them that even if they ace the final, they will fail. Some actually want to argue with me. I just nip it in the bud, and say if they have a problem with it to go through the grade appeal process. So far, none have ever done so.

I love the first sentence, refusing to call it "teaching" (which it isn't).

At the public high school were I teach (taught) physics, I announced to my students on the second day of class that if they didn't do their homework or bring and use calculators to class, they would fail the course. The administration promptly yanked me out and gave the students a sub that didn't know (and couldn't do) physics. Their subsequent "work" consisted of drawing pictures of things (like cars) and labeling them with arrows and statements like "This car goes fast!"

This is the modern American "physics" curriculum "taught" in public schools fraught with sub-civilized, illiterate, innumerate occupants. "Public education", in many places, is a lie, a sham and a travesty. The administrators of this system ought to be put in jail.

Blogger Good Will May 21, 2015 11:07 AM

I might add, when I complained that my physics students couldn't even add 8+7, the principle said, "Why do they need to add? They can google it!"

Morons.

There are some people who are still trying to teach Calculus to monkeys. Well, good luck with that sport. Just stay away from the basketbrawl courts after noon because that's when the monsters wake up and enter a stupor. They have to male it up before the sun goes down or the Vampires will beat them to their prey the DWL who still believes in equality of something that doesn't exist because Math is Hard, Barbie!
Public School taught me a lot about life. I learned how to HATE THE GOVERNMENT in school. I never would have learned that at home! That lying box with the Evil Eye was lying to me all day and if I stayed at home, I might have believed that shit! Thank God I was able to see it for myself.
Those of you who still believe the System is viable, what World are you from? Have you seen the Economy? I heard it died in 2008 or sooner. Didn't you at least know it was sick?
I'm still waiting for Global Warming to let up and the temperature to rise. I'm expecting our black African dictator to get his JFK retirement plan from a Lone Gunman. I hear some former Israeli commando is kind of pissed from him being involved in their election or something. Whatever. Its all good. I hear ISIS wants him dead too for some Delta Force strike that killed a leader of theirs. I'd do it myself, but this line is too long for me. I just have the patience of a Saint, and this line is longer than Space Mountain at Disney World.
After that I expect a Planet of the Apes movie around the time they release a Planet of the Apes movie. Ironic. The System will be down for awhile, and I might have a chance to see it doesn't get back up again, by giving it some nice swift kicks in the Head.
