Reddit is dead

Roosh absolutely called this one after Pao was appointed CEO. Ruled by SJWs, Reddit is a dead site walking:
When failed discrimination plaintiff Ellen Pao was appointed CEO of Reddit last January, many predicted that it would herald a new age of censorship on the link-sharing and discussion site. Those predictions appear to have come true, as a number of communities on the site (known as “subreddits”) have just been unilaterally shut down.

The sudden move resulted in the removal of one popular subreddit, /r/fatpeoplehate, which until its closure was the 13th-most active community on Reddit. The subreddit was dedicated to mocking fat people and the “fat acceptance” movement, although it was not known for engaging in any off-site harassment. Other Redditors have cited the subreddit as an important source of motivation to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

The crackdown came after a week of censorship on Reddit, including the mass deletions of links to media stories and even satirical cartoons concerning CEO Ellen Pao. There was also a bizarre incident in which a moderator of a gaming community demanded a user write a 500-word essay on trans acceptance before being unbanned. The user’s crime was using the word “trap”: a common, but not derogatory, term of Internet slang to describe crossdressers. Despite protestations from transwomen who said they were not offended, the moderator refused to relent.

There are early indications that the Reddit admins may have finally crossed the Rubicon on the road to alienating their user base. User activity on their main competitor, Voat.co had been rising steadily since social media censorship became an issue during the #GamerGate controversy, but in the past few hours their figures have skyrocketed.  At the time of writing, there are over 3,700 active users on Voat’s alternative to /r/fatpeoplehate —almost double its number of subscribers.
The lesson that conservatives and even liberals have to learn is that there can be no toleration for SJWs. There can be no support for SJW organizations and institutions. Their entryists must be guarded against. The prideful, self-centered declaration that you are above all cultural war and will nobly go down to graceful defeat rather than dirty yourself by choosing a side doesn't mean that you have higher ideals and standards, it means that you are observably stupid and self-defeating.

Fence-sitting doesn't make you a better person. Especially when the fence is in the process of being knocked down by SJW bulldozers.

I sometimes use reddit and right now its chaos. The backlash is amazing.

However, I found this to be a perspective I had not considered in the whole debacle:

Agreed.
I would go a step further and say that even gentlemanly war agaimst SJWs is not a good thing.

For example, Mr. Wright's acceptance of Gallo's non apology was effectively a civilised man's rapier thrust to the wrist of the enemy.

And while I appreciate JCWs acceptance of the apology from both a stylistic perspective (though it is not my own preferred style, I can appreciate good art) as well its instructive and educational perspective from a Christian point of view, the main issue I have with it is that it is the gentlemanly behaviour that allows the roaches to live and go on to destroy more later.

Vox's Christian approach is more brutal and definitive, yet not merciless, but also allows for plenty of room for these rabbits to continue existing in for a time, but I think that is a function of his playing the long game and so is probably a positive.

I can't say for certain, but I think I may be more with Tom on this one. They need to be rushed out of the trenches with flamethrowers and then crucified as an example to other would be SJWs.

So while Vox is more the general type whobsees the bigger picture, Tom and myself would be more the types who should be used as shock troops and front line effect, scorching the Earth as we go.

Once the dust clears, people like John Wright can then re-educate the Kratmans and Filottos of the world into being more... Civilised I guess.

I haven't used Reddit very much at all. I go on the site every once in a while, but don't see much if anything of interest. It won't be a loss to me.

It's only a matter of time before /r/theredpill is also expunged. I remember reading early posts from the mods about this eventuality and preparing for it.

I've mostly used Reddit as a source of technical reading material (/r/programming and the like). I rarely participate in discussions.

The notion that Old Papacon defending civilization from Radical Child's temper tantrums and Big Momma Liberal's enabling behavior is dead.

Bring back the cross and the nails, banish the squeamishness. Don't fret Papacons and other Emasucons while civilization is dead, dead, dead culture is still possible.

Why would Conde Naste appoint such noxious woman as CEO?

OpenID eidolon1109 June 11, 2015 7:00 AM

An article linked from Instapundit:

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/208412/

Manages to utterly miss the point, I assume on purpose. Apparently it's misogyny to point out that a high-level editor insulting the company's own authors and customers is different than various authors having opinions, if that editor is a woman. Nowhere in the article is it made clear what the woman's job is or why her statement is a problem for the company, or why it's different for her to say it versus Scalzi.

"Why would Conde Naste appoint such noxious woman as CEO?"

At a guess, 2 reasons:

1: If it works, Pao does the dirty work of the purge and Naste keep their hands fairly clean.
2: If she fails, they can say Pao caused it to happen and it was her fault entirely.

Either way, they technically "win" to a certain extent.

OpenID eidolon1109 June 11, 2015 7:05 AM

Never had much use for reddit. I can see using it for general discussion of mostly neutral topics, but I always figured controversial stuff is better discussed on sites like this one. Anytime you have "controversial "(i.e. not SJW) opinions you run the risk of this sort of thing happening. I just assume any supposedly neutral platform is capable of this.

Blogger Laramie Hirsch June 11, 2015 7:15 AM

Reddit? What is that? I don't have time for liberal horseshit like that!

Anonymous Stilicho June 11, 2015 7:16 AM

It is hilarious that SJW'S think that taking over what is essentially a big Internet chat room will allow them to stop all the feelbadz discussions... it's not like another chat room or message board could be opened up on the intarwebz after all...

These purportedly tech savvy SJW'S actually think that they can apply the newspaper model of censorship to the Internet that has effectively killed the old news media monopolies. What next, a typesetters union for Gawker articles?

why wouldn't they?

remember, large corps are chock full of MBAs.

MBAs come from ... colleges.

SJWs and Cultural Marxists have owned colleges for pretty much a century now.

a follow on to that is this:
i've been told by several IU-Bloomington MBAs ( regularly a top 20 Business School ) that Business School doesn't really teach you much ... except for how to Network.

internalize that thought. turn it over in your head. examine it.

practically applied, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Huff and puff as you wish. I love it when something falls through efforts by such. Two third of social media, "news", and other sites could succumb and I would consider it... a net gain. Let them eat their own. It's entertaining as hell... well... in a way... from the correct side of the affair.

If you needed reddit, you probably aren't doing all that well.

Anonymous p-dawg June 11, 2015 8:01 AM

SJWs in leadership positions are just death for your business. Starbucks, reddit... wherever. It used to be that directing boards knew that pissing on the user base was corporate death. They must all be cuckold fetishists now. Goodbye reddit.

Blogger Salt June 11, 2015 8:35 AM

It's a different front on the same culture war. We may find some allies there. "See? We're dealing with the same assholes trying to be gatekeepers of science fiction." Reddit is full of obnoxious jerks who love Internet fights.

As for burning them out of their nests, Brad posted the King Solomon story as it applies to Puppies and CHORFs a while back but he never answered the key question posed. You've determined the real mother and the indifferent nanny who would rather burn it down than see it in someone else's hands. Do you let the nanny back into the nursery? Or do you drive her and her coterie away. Rooting them all out is the only long term solution.

Of two minds. On the one hand, Reddit was always a pest to the current Liberal establishment, but on the other it was also a hotbed of hedonistic immaturity. What this shows is "never believe a Liberal when they say they won't try to change anything". I'm sorry, but this woman was ALWAYS going to be a disaster. Good that it was called early.

#1 has a really good point if they get rid of everyone smart enough to block ads they will have a target audience of low IQ SJWs on government benefits that they can directly target with ads from the government. The reduced usage will mean even non Asian minorities might be able to handle the maintenance. Think of what was said about why WOW supported people multi boxing, people paying to extra accounts that they normally didn't play.

It's worth taking notice that two notorious racist subs, CoonTown and GasTheKikes, were unaffected. Chairman Pao's explanation for not killing off CoonTown was that the denizens were following the Reddit rules about harassment.

In the wake of the subreddit shoah, CoonTown's subscribership increased from about 11K to over 13K overnight.

Why would Conde Naste appoint such noxious woman as CEO?

The evidence would tend to suggest that this is exactly what Nast wanted. As a former co-worker said "Don't bother telling management what an asshole our boss is. They hired him. They had to have known about it. They've had a year to watch him work. He's here because he's an asshole. An asshole is exactly who they wanted for the job."

If you watched the Jerry Seinfeld / Late Show vid that's going around, i find it hilarious. Jerry unconditionally stated, I'm not doing a per-interview because I really don't want to be here and I'm not doing extra work, that's your job... and I won't do colleges because their too PC. Haven't paid too much attention, but I know some SJW out there has gotta be offended. Gotta love Jerry. I just hope he doesn't offer some lame non-apology afterwards, although I don't think he will. What the hell does he need from them?

I think the best part of the "trap" guy getting banned on the planetside reddit of all things was the moderator citing their 100 page master's thesis thus a 500 word essay wasn't a big deal.

Giuseppe: For example, Mr. Wright's acceptance of Gallo's non apology was effectively a civilised man's rapier thrust to the wrist of the enemy.

That's a clever way of putting it. Instead of dispatching her he disarmed her.

Essentially, "No hard feelings, but you still need to go", justified by a firm sense of professional propriety. Going for the wrist instead of the heart is a move dictated to by holding himself to the same standard that he holds others.

Anonymous Red Comet June 11, 2015 6:38 PM

The White Night of the Long Knives on reddit is a case of the advertisers and board members using SJW Ellen Pao as a blunt instrument to cleanse "controversy" (re: anything that's not the narrative) from the site.

They are likely positioning reddit for a demographic changeover to a more profitable user base (re: MAC using hipsters that don't know what Ad Block is) and then a billion dollar sale to Facebook, Google, or whoever.
