The war on free expression

The principled defenses have failed. The attempts to ignore it have failed. The attempts to placate have, predictably, failed. The only way to shut down the "army of self-appointed militants who see themselves as the guardians of correct thinking" is hit back twice as hard and hold the SJWs completely accountable to their own rules.
When Professor Tim Hunt, the Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, recently addressed a major conference in Seoul about women in science, he said he had three problems with 'girls in laboratories', namely that: 'You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticise them, they cry.'

As a media storm erupted, Hunt insisted that his remarks were made in 'a totally jocular, ironic way'.

But none of that matters to today's self-righteous crusaders against offensive opinions, for whom language is never a laughing matter. Professor Hunt was immediately surrounded online by an outraged Twitter mob demanding his head on a pike.

These boycott-and-ban zealots are not content with exercising their right to criticise somebody who makes an offensive joke. Quivering with self-righteous indignation, they want to silence those who fail to conform to their group-think.

In this case, their bullying worked. The scientific authorities immediately caved in. Not only was Hunt forced to resign from his post at University College London, but he was also dismissed from the science committee of the European Research Council.

So biochemistry loses a brilliant pioneer, while we lose more ground to the forces of oppressive censorship.

For the saga of Tim Hunt's downfall is just the latest example of how a culture of verbal prohibition is taking over society, led by an army of self-appointed militants who see themselves as the guardians of correct thinking.
If you don't want to see more Nobel Laureates like Tim Hunt and James Watson hounded from science, more innovators like Brandon Eich hounded from tech, then you should endorse the Tor Books boycott and force the SJWs to realize that they will be held twice as accountable for their every joke, every tweet, every Facebook comment, and every personal statement as they hold everyone else.

I'm happy to participate in the TOR boycott, but I don't buy any of their books. Boycotting TOR for me would be like boycotting the NBA or the Oprah Winfrey Network. But I will happily actively not buy their books, rather than passively like I've been doing.

In Atlas Shrugged the people who "Went Galt" were just the kinds of people you've listed above and for many of the same reasons. When people start doing this more often without being forced into it (and trust me, plenty have) the decline will accelerate rapidly. The shamers have nothing to offer that will replace what is being cleansed other than sensitivity training and patchouli stinking dreadlocks.

Every one of these incidents pushes the pedal to the metal.

You have to give them credit. They know how to fight a culture a war.

On the one side they organize instinctively in a way that is alien to our very nature.

On the other side, The hive mind does not pick its targets carefully. Often those that are purged inspire sympathy from our side.

The question nobody asked: when the Brilliant Scientist made the joke, what shirt was he wearing?

It feels like battlespace preparation: drive the smart men out of STEM, makes space for not-so-smart women who won't be shown up by the competition, because there won't be any.

And that is where you are all screwed-----"Freedom what a concept".

That is not Western Culture or Western Civilization. What you have glammed onto is the Atheist/revolutionary/radical cry that they taught the dumb low IQ idiots in order to tear down Christendom. But when they get into power, they practice exactly what Christendom did.

Wisdom teaches to suppress. There is no free speech in Heaven. Why should it be here on earth?

Freedom is what got you in this mess to begin with because "freedom" gave the radicals, the Marxists, to gain control of the culture, and then they control you. It is about control. MacMillan and Tor books are full of liberals. They don't eat their own. Their world view is that conservatives, reactionaries, traditionalists are evil. Marx called for their genocide. They have no comprehension. What a bunch of Nazi's (their word for nationalists), homophobes, misogynists, are going to boycott Tor? No big deal to them. To progressives, traditionalists and conservatives are evil because they stand in the way of "progress". Anybody who stands in the way of progress is, in their delusional minds, morall evil.

Once a dog goes rabid, the only cure is to put them down. There is no talking. There is no society with "progressives". Their "progress" is their religion. They are zealots to their erzatz religion.

Freedom as a concept is full of BS. It is a load of crap. I've got forty acres of marshland to sell to you.

In Mr Hunt's case the SJWs struck at the softest of targets; the fainting men of academia. University is the hub of the SJW know-betters' claims to intellectual seriousness. It is from there their corrupted vocabulary is endowed with the illusion of legitimacy.

People will believe 2+2=5 when you tell them the learned (people who study such things - "experts") only consider 2+2=4 correct when expressed as cis2 + cis2 = cis 4 and only hillbillies and rednecks and Nazis still use old fashioned cisnumebers.

They are winning because they have not met serious opposition up to now. Normal people have been napping, thinking that Western Civilization is the default condition of humanity. It isn't.

I want to know who these people are. I want them individually identified with a summary what they have done to earn their SJW moniker. The list should be easily accessible online. The first three names should be Irene Gallo, Patrick Hayden, and John Scalzi, with SJW bona fides included.

IDENTIFY. NAME. TARGET

What we should do is try to get the name of the person who lied to Hunt about being allowed to resign quietly, no need for her to enjoy quit herself. Maybe someone could send him a post card and tell him to post the name here so we can at least draw some attention to her, I think Giuseppe lives in the same nation. When she cries about being outed it will make the next SJW think twice about lying.

I wasn't going to boycott because I feel it punishes the authors rather than the company

If I took a job doing database administration for Planned Parenthood, I would expect my pro-life clients to dump me, because I would be helping evil.

Now that's not a great analogy, since the authors we're talking about didn't know this was coming when they signed with Tor. So let me adjust it: let's say I sign a two-year contract to do database administration for a web development company, and one year into it they take a job from Planned Parenthood. I'd still expect my clients to look askance at that; and if any of them chose to cut ties with me, I'd be disappointed, but I couldn't blame them. I'd be honest with clients about the situation, and do my best not to support the company any more than required by my contract.

That seems like the most honorable position an author in this situation can take: do the right thing by his readers while keeping his word; and if that means taking some punishment, that's life.

I seen people like ... Roosh ... mention that perhaps free speech is a principle we no longer need to support.

a - remarkably short sighted. the Cultural Marxists control all the high ground, loudspeakers and bully pulpits of society. IF you succeed in destroying respect for freedom of speech *now* THEN who is it that will succeed in destroying all other speech?

and don't say that you didn't quite mean that. when Marxists fully realize their ambitions, they set about murdering great masses of people for wrongthink and badfeels. it's like clockwork.

b - not particularly suprising that Roosh would swing this way. i've not read much of him but that video he posted never amounted to any more than "How dare you criticize me, I am your father."

so fucking what?

you can assert anything you want. you can cite any facts or philosophical conjecture you want.

you WILL NOT tell me that i am to set aside my own judgment and reason because you claim to be 'my father'.

especially when i was never in the PUA community in the first place and that's the only claim you can even assert to 'fathering'.

The Dread Ilk, etc., are the Sons of Liberty and Vox is Samuel Adams! There is much to be optimistic about, and history proves that these movements can have historic consequences.

England, under George III, had determined to bring the colonies to heel, and passed the Stamp Act, requiring just about everything to have official Stamps to regulate and tax trade. The Secret Nine, led by Sam Adams, met in Boston and strategized. Every year, gangs would fight each other, supposedly in fun, but being Boston, things could get quite bloody. The Secret Nine allied with one of these gangs and terrorized the particular officers appointed to enforce the Stamp Act, hanging and burning them in effigy, sometimes stripping, tarring and feathering them. The Sons of Liberty then spread to the other colonies. The Whigamores (Whigs) that had headed the English parliament for decades and developed a highly advanced libertarian philosophy under Burke, et al., had been ousted, but now returned to power briefly, and repealed the Stamp Act.

The Tories returned and we had the Intolerable Acts, the Boston massacre, the Tea Party, the Declaration of Independence, etc. But Sam Adams, Milo Otis, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and the rest imbibed the pamphlets from England's libertarian renaissance and what we now call the Enlightenment, and brought forth this country in liberty. And gangs from Boston, dread ilk all, were absolutely instrumental in it all. What fun this is!

I highly recommend the great Murray Rothbard's Conceived in Liberty, free from mises.org, even in audiobook if you have a commute.

I don't believe Roosh is swinging this way or that. However it's clear reading between the lines what is on some people's minds and therefore a discussion would be helpful. I do think you make a good point that free speech helps the minority which the Ilk currently is in West.

Inescapable conclusion: Gallo is transsexual.
