Brainstorm tonight

Tonight's Open Brainstorm session features author John C. Wright. We will be discussing his new novel SOMEWHITHER, the new fantasy series he is in the process of writing for Castalia House, his record-setting Hugo nominations, and the Phil Sandifier debate concerning ONE BRIGHT STAR TO GUIDE THEM. The session will run from 7 PM to 8:30 PM EDT on Thursday, July 16, and there will be a Q&A session following the interview.

Wow. I'd really like to attend this, but have a conflict. Crap.

I thought it was on the 21st? Is this a second, first one?

Anonymous Dave July 16, 2015 4:58 PM

Should we assume spoilers wrt "Somewither"? I'm four chapters from the end and hope to have time to finish pre-Brainstorm.

Looking forward, but will only catch the first half hour. Talking with John at our DC meetup was interesting, should make for a great discussion.

No, that is the member's only event. This is the open one.

Anonymous Giuseppe July 16, 2015 6:36 PM

ok. I got confused due to skim-half-reading.
Thought this was the 7:30 one on the 21st and by the time I realised it wasn't the real thing had already started
and then was taking ages to log me in...or maybe once the session has begun it's hard to see/verify joining users. Not sure anyway, missed it, damn!

It's like I have to read instructions and stuff...gaahhh!

Session doesn't start for another 12 minutes ... ?

I can see Vox and presumably JCW, but I have no sound. Anybody else?

Blogger automattthew July 16, 2015 7:05 PM

Fixed now.

Anonymous 360 July 16, 2015 7:10 PM

I can't see them. Can yall see video?

Anonymous mike M. July 16, 2015 7:13 PM

No connection at my end.

Blogger SirHamster (#201) July 16, 2015 7:14 PM

I initially couldn't see video. There was a dropdown button "Webcams" in the top left of the main window that has a "Show All Webcams" option. That enabled video.

Anonymous 360 July 16, 2015 7:16 PM

Is the alpenwolf chat up?

Anonymous 360 July 16, 2015 7:16 PM

Thanks! That did the trick.

Anonymous Mike M. July 16, 2015 7:19 PM

I'm getting "waiting to see VoxDay's screen". No sound.

Blogger Student in Blue July 16, 2015 7:20 PM

Well that's annoying. I've been meaning to register and listen in but it's already started because I got home an hour later.

I guess I get to test out whether I can register while it's in progress and join in.

Blogger Student in Blue July 16, 2015 7:22 PM

Pleasantly surprised. I was able to register while it's already in progress. I honestly didn't expect to be able to.

Blogger automattthew July 16, 2015 7:27 PM

Iron Sky reference.

Anonymous Giuseppe July 16, 2015 8:26 PM

oh...I am just retarded then. But so is google. It told me 7pm edt is 11pm gmt. guess it forgot about summer time or something.

Blogger Daniel July 16, 2015 8:46 PM

Ha! I see that an SJW at file770 is struggling to condemn the plural of Helen of Troy because it is good.

Don't worry Lil sjw; release the liar within...

Anonymous JRL July 16, 2015 8:46 PM

Enjoyed the conversation Vox and Mr. Wright! Thank you.

Anonymous Dave July 16, 2015 8:57 PM

Yes, thanks for that. Will await future episodes

I just finished SOMEWHITHER. Enjoyed it immensely, but I think there might be something wrong with Mr. Wright! The cage does one even come up with that?

Anonymous UsualJay July 16, 2015 9:39 PM

Great brainstorm as usual, thank you Vox and Mr. Wright for the enlightening interview and Q&A.

Blogger SirThermite (VFM #0025) July 16, 2015 10:01 PM

Great interview! Especially liked Mr. Wright's observations that insane SJW mantras (Bruce is actually Caitlyn, etc) are a technique of feigning valor and virtue with little risk or sacrifice, and also defensive mechanisms against having to accept observable reality.

Thoroughly enjoyable, even my four and six year old were tuning in at times.

It's a good sales pitch for the Brainstorm subscription. Just not in the cards, though I think I'll get the month subscription when Stickwick presents.

Really the enjoyed the stream... I would love to get a list of the writers/books he recommended. I got several, but missed a few... Also, for some reason I had thought He was British for some reason... I blame his blog icon and wit...

"The Night Land" William Hope Hodgson

"The Chronicles of Amber" Roger Zelazny

Ayn Rand was also mentioned, but I missed much of the parts about his influences

"The House on the Borderland" by Hodgson - This I have read and might be a more familiar a title.

@Bard. It is logic. John's logical mind goes "what are the logical implications of immortality?" Then, it shows them.

Anonymous Giuseppe July 17, 2015 2:40 AM

Never! That's an overlords of Mars reference. My book was first! (though hardly the first to put the Nazis on the moon)
