The First Law and the NYT

Instapundit calls it correctly:
THAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LIE AND GET CAUGHT: NY Times Taking a Beating In Its Battle With Ted Cruz.

We wrote here about Ted Cruz’s feud with the New York Times. Cruz’s new book, A Time for Truth, is a hot seller, apparently #3 among hard cover nonfiction books. But the Times refused to list it on its best seller list, claiming that its “sales were limited to strategic bulk purchases.” Both Cruz and his publisher, HarperCollins, have denied the charge, and Cruz has challenged the Times either to provide evidence to back up its claim, or else apologize.

Now Amazon has entered the fray, stating publicly that there is “is no evidence of unusual bulk purchase activity in our sales data.” As of last report, A Time for Truth is #13 at Amazon among all books, not just hard cover nonfiction. Other sources that track book sales evidently agree that there is nothing fishy about Cruz’s book’s sales.

The Times is run by Social Justice Warrior types, and Social Justice Warrior types always lie.
Because SJWs focus on taking the public high ground specifically so they can act as gatekeepers and narrative-controllers, they always have a difficult time when there is an objective measure that is not subject to their control. That's why they hate Amazon so much; Amazon destroys their ability to sell the story that their authors and books are vastly popular while no one reads the authors and books of which they disapprove.

But because SJWs always lie, you know, you absolutely know, that the lie is in there somewhere. You have only got to look for it, and soon enough, you'll find it.

This isn't a new tactic the NYT used to do something similar to Ann Coulter listing her books but putting a note that bulk buys may have contributed to sales. Though I guess with senator Cruz the NYT is lying and doubling down.

Blogger Daniel July 14, 2015 1:32 AM

Wow. Pick a front. Take down an SJW. If you aren't in the game, nows a great time to do it.

Blogger epobirs July 14, 2015 1:45 AM

Strangely, when Bridge Publications used to send out an army of Scientologists to make bestsellers of Hubbard novels, the NYT had no objection.

I once had a manager at a B. Dalton store stop a conversation to point at a newly arrived box and say, "Check this out." He opened the box full of a volume from Hubbard's massive doorstop Mission Earth series. All of the books were already stickered and ready to go on the shelf. He indicated this only happened with the Hubbard books because they somehow shipped from Bridge that way. As far as he could figure, the books were being individually purchased and SOMEHOW finding their way back to Bridge en masse.

Do the NYT care when Tor does it for JS? Not that I believe it's happening with Cruz. If an SJW says it, it's probably not true.

If an SJW says it, it's probably not true.

even if it is a 'true fact', it's almost invariably being cited in a deceptive manner.

which is why it's so often true that SJWs always lie.

At the behest of the living God, I, Andrew, son of the prophet Artis, have been sent to you all. The things which God spoke in my ear for your sakes and the things which he commanded me to say are these...

and so on.

This is probably a troll, but it's the more or less the same thing I hear whenever somebody Godposts.

But let's stay on topic. Yes, the NYT probably jewed Cruz's book down. The interesting part is who is more offended by the deception, or who is more offended by the "jewed" descriptor. Fight, gladiators!

It is incredible that people have to learn this over and over again. It's still amazing anyone takes anything in the NYT at face value, but every time it is caught fabricating folks go back to it as a source like it's untarnished.

If an individual lied so much his coworkers would make a sport of predicting his pending concoction.

The SJWs inflate their own book sale figures which Vox demolished in a previous thread while lying and downplaying the sales of those on the Right. Both lies have been conclusively exposed on this blog. SJWs lie coming and going. Why would somebody be an SJW when their pathological lying is constantly exposed here?

Anonymous Bz July 14, 2015 5:46 AM

JACIII, New York Times as a person is a quite funny conceit. Well dressed, seemingly well-read, rather intimidatingly snooty at the dinner party, yet after some conversation ... you realize something's not right. Could be a fine running joke.

Anonymous Giuseppe July 14, 2015 5:50 AM

I LOVE that "SJWs always lie" is becoming a meme all over the internet. It may be the most powerful weapon Vox has created yet.
I use it mercilessly as much as possible and I think the ilk should do the same too.
Expose their lies and then label them filthy SJWs.

Give them no quarter, use facts as a club and don't let their rhethoric distract you from continuously pummeling them (autistic style) with repetitive and undeniable facts, facts, facts.

It's amazing how fast this strategy gets the average SJW to react with comparative silence and running away.

SJWs always lie
Their single basic premise, "We are all interchangeable pieces in the collective." sorry, I meant, "We are are all the same." is an obvious, provable falsehood. Since they hold to this tenet knowing it to be false, lying is not only easy but essential, hence rule #1.

Blogger JAY WILL July 14, 2015 7:12 AM

It can't be true Cruz is on "the wrong side of history". Given he is on the wrong side of history he cannot, by definition, be popular.

There is some unseen "coding" error going on that we are not aware of. At some point this will click back into place as one would expect, in the meantime I would suggest going with what we know is the inevitable path rather than what we see before us. If in time we find this is not correcting, more serious measures may be required.

Long live The Great Society!

The New York Times is opening the books on Bulk Purchases to boost sales rank?

They... are... going... there?

Well that's bad news for John Scalzi and Hillary Clinton.

Blogger Cataline Sergius July 14, 2015 8:13 AM

I think we've seen all three laws of SJWs in play during this latest self-beclowning by the New York Times.

First came the out right lie. Ted Cruz's book doesn't meet our criteria to qualify as a best seller.

Then came the Double Down when they were asked, in what way did Hillary's book qualify that Ted's didn't? Ted Cruz's book doesn't meet our criteria to qualify as a best seller.

When that pig didn't fly, it was Projection time. It must have been Bulk Purchases because we know damn good and well that happens whenever someone we like publishes. Just look at Hillary Clinton's Hard Choices. That bomb dropped by fifty percent on it's second week. We all knew what that meant.

They might

Anonymous Ecthelion July 14, 2015 8:36 AM

The third law looks to be at play here, as well. The bulk purchasing of books is exactly what they would expect, and allow, from a politician from the left.

Anonymous Harsh July 14, 2015 9:41 AM

“sales were limited to strategic bulk purchases.”

In response, Johnny Con was heard to say, "nothing to see here, folks."

Considering that they have rewritten the Ellen Pao story a third time ... Oh hell, we know they're lying, they know we know and simply don't care. They have created their own pocket reality and can't see the big scary thing coming up from behind.

Blogger Jack Ward July 14, 2015 10:14 AM

Very much so. As I remember, Vox told the story once how he and Big Chilly observed someone getting beat up and that was what decided them to start training in a really tough school of martial arts.
These days, with most of his physical combat behind him Vox seems to have turned a lot of that combative energy into the on going fight against the sjw/s.

Its really fun to watch and even to participate now and again.

Me too. I've not had anything personally set me off in regards to Ted Cruz, so have been mildly curious.

But with all the other stuff going on lately, this makes me want to read Ted Cruz book while eating a Chick-fil-A sandwich on a Confederate blanket at the foot of the Stone Mountain monument. While wearing an NRA cap.

Blogger Jeff Weimer July 14, 2015 10:58 AM

And the NYT ghettos out "conservative" political non-fiction into it's own category, while letting liberals stay in the general political category. All to make sure its readers don't get exposed to wrongthink inadvertently. Can't have that.

Blogger Doom July 14, 2015 11:22 AM

Sometimes it is difficult to find an exact lie. However, there is great risk in reading their material at all. Starting with the premise, the lead up, corollary notions, aside from the major lie(s), usually it is difficult to even begin with what all is wrong with what they are suggesting. Actually, if you find the big lie(s), you almost have to accept many of the smaller, or notional, fabrications just to deny it. A rather dangerous thing. For those who believe they can just hit the major lie, they miss that point quite often.

It's sort of a booby prize in a trap. Great, you got the easy one but missed everything in getting to it. Your choice, I suppose. I don't bother with the writings of liars. I do understand that most people neither know nor care. I knew that. Christ, at the very least, was evidence of that and a long time ago. Should he return to day, I know of no church, for sure, or government or major business, which wouldn't try to put Him back on the cross. Some people, but most of those will be gone, one way or another, when He returns. Only some of the damned, who find heart and truth, will be lead to a way.

Read and debate as you will. I simply shun.

Sometimes it is difficult to find an exact lie.

"It is one of the cleverest devices of the Modernists (as they are commonly and rightly called) to present their doctrines without order and systematic arrangement, in a scattered and disjointed manner, so as to make it appear as if their minds were in doubt or hesitation, whereas in reality they are quite fixed and steadfast." -- Pascendi, Pope St. Pius X, 1907

certainly a valid response to them.

but it can be a worthwhile exercise to practice taking them apart. there are few of us that can completely isolate our lives from SJWs. and it's useful to take apart some of their arguments just to demonstrate to the less experienced / more foolish exactly what these tools are up too.

41. Cail Corishev July 14, 2015 11:39 AM
whereas in reality they are quite fixed and steadfast.

this is a re-(pre-?)phrasing of me pointing out that so often they're generating supposed chaos and drama so that they can accomplish a goal while you are distracted elsewhere.

it's also something i noticed a long time ago. no matter what the subject matter is, somehow, someway, the Leftist always manages to justify advocating the policy which is most harmful to the United States.

after awhile, it sort of rules out the "coincidence" option.

Blogger Thucydides July 14, 2015 1:09 PM

If the NYT wants to downplay sales figures, they should work to have Sen Cruz' book published by TOR. Then there would be no need to post deceptively small sales figures....

Exactly. When their proposed means are always "less political freedom" (higher taxes, more debt, more regulations, more centralization) and "less social cohesion" (multiculturalism, open borders, attacking marriage and the family, attacking Christianity, attacking American cultural heritage) -- eventually, it becomes clear that the means are the ends.

Today's stated goal is just a pretext for attacking political freedom and social cohesion, and there will be a new excuse tomorrow.

Blogger Doom July 14, 2015 7:16 PM

bob k. mando,

If you need the practice. It's not that difficult. Not at all. I terrify real ones, in person. I literally eat them alive with their own words, yet so nicely they often desire more. Seriously. I need no more practice. Though I do enjoy a few intimate sittings. I quite often end up being called Darth Vader, literally, by some of these folks. What is sad is, they love Vader, deep down, no matter how they imagine themselves. They don't get it, even so. Masochists or something. When that is exposed, finally, I leave them in the exquisite pain of no pain. Professor to hippie to boomer. It's a gift.

Had it even when young. My mother called my music Satan's music. I just quipped that Country & Western was merely a communist plot to make everyone in America a beer alcoholic. Never did hear bitching regarding my music the more. Heck, I even liked some C&W back then, and beer to this day. And, at that age, young teens, I was a socialist and understood the relationship between that and communism. Not the point. :p
