Hit me baby one more time

Mytheos Holt points out that SJWs have overused the words from the Codex Maladictorum to such an extent that they have lost their potency:
Donald Trump Is What Happens When You Cry Wolf

However, to speak seriously for a moment, Trump’s candidacy should also serve as a cautionary tale about just what happens when you try to brand even the smallest indiscretions as evidence that someone is of the Devil’s party. To illustrate this, ask yourself this question: what label can the Left (or the Right, for that matter) apply to Trump that hasn’t already been so devalued by overuse?
What label can the Left (or the Right, for that matter) apply to Trump that hasn’t already been so devalued by overuse?

That he’s a racist? So is anyone who criticizes President Obama’s golf swing these days.

That he’s a sexist? So is anyone who defends due-process rights.

That he’s a phony? What politician isn’t?

That he’s a fascist? So were the last two presidents, depending on which books you read.

That he’s a crypto-Nazi? Yeah, because Lyndon Larouche hasn’t beaten that one to death at all.

See the problem? Even if all of these labels were true of Trump, they’ve all been used to cry “wolf” so many times that now no one thinks they mean anything anymore. Short of openly waving a Nazi flag, eating black babies, or sexually assaulting someone on live television, there’s little Trump could do to actually give these labels the power to scare people.
Exactly. It's very amusing when SJWs like John "I am a rapist" Scalzi keep desperately flinging DISQUALIFY DISQUALIFY DISQUALIFY over and over and over again, as if it will finally work on the 500th time after failing the first 499 times. The idiot SJWs simply don't realize that once an individual is inoculated to their disqualification attempts, it's never going to work again.

That's why their current and future outrage over national publications - yes, plural - talking to me is so funny. It would never have happened if they hadn't planted those stories with the Guardian, with Entertainment Weekly, and with the New Zealand Herald. Just as Rabid Puppies would never have existed if they had simply refrained from accusing me of gaming the 2014 Hugo Awards.

SJWs never leave well enough alone and they never learn. And if they're going to go to all the trouble of portraying one as a monster, well, one almost has an artistic duty to ensure that one fulfills all their worst nightmares and then some.

Perhaps the Republicans are smarter than SJWs and they'll stop doubling down on trying to disqualify Donald Trump. But I tend to doubt it.

As is often the case, Orwell was on the job much earlier:

“The word Fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies "something not desirable"...In the case of a word like democracy, not only is there no agreed definition, but the attempt to make one is resisted from all sides. It is almost universally felt that when we call a country democratic we are praising it: consequently the defenders of every kind of regime claim that it is a democracy, and fear that they might have to stop using the word if it were tied down to any one meaning.”

― George Orwell, Essays

But fortunately, we still have words such as cuckservative and thought police at our disposal.

That reminds me, in June of 2014 I was on a layover in Salt Lake City and the local rag had a cut 'n paste article on Gamergate that was the usual pastiche of tone-selected crap. That was my first inkling that cracks in the SJW machine were evident; they went on their counterattack in newspapers printed on dead trees, of all places. Like the over 55 demographic that sits around waiting for Wheel of Fortune to come rather than just Netflix something would be a major player in gaming, gamerjournos, gamergate, or anything else online.

Anonymous Stickwick August 10, 2015 6:34 PM

There's a cargo cult quality to the way SJWs operate. They perceive that "racist" and "sexist" were vile labels and had the power to shape people's behavior, but they didn't understand the mechanics of it. They have sense of neither the law of diminishing returns nor the way a word loses its meaning when it's haphazardly applied to everything, just that A magically leads to B. So, in their weirdly ritualistic way, they uttered the magic incantations, and expected that they'd change people's behavior, every time. Of course, now we're seeing that the spell is breaking. I'm genuinely curious what the reaction is going to be when the SJWs realize that their magic no longer works.

Anonymous Goodnight August 10, 2015 6:35 PM

...consequently the defenders of every kind of regime claim that it is a democracy...

I'm currently listening to a series of lectures on 20th century China, and there's an ongoing theme of Mao calling all of his reforms "democratic", even long after it had become ludicrous.

There's one thing Trump understands, doubling down. He had his own casino. They're playing Donald's tune; he's holding to his rules, and that makes him the House.

Anonymous Quartermaster August 10, 2015 6:54 PM

Ailes is trying to make peace as Trump supporters inundated Fox with email after the debate. It was almost entirely against Kelly. Fox is in a good position, but it isn't so strong that it could easily weather a fight with Trump.

The cuckservative running Red State (who shall remain nameless, but we all know who the pathetic troll is) is now trying to make a bit of hay while he can. Erickson thinks that Trump isn't getting his story out, but as long as Trump is the center of the storm, he's getting exactly what he wants and needs. Erickson doesn't understand that. His head is still stuck in law school and seminary. he's in well over his head and doesn't even realize he's drowning.

I agree, but Trump has offended everyone so much that getting their vote is another thing entirely.

Assuming he ends up being the candidate, that only matters if he offended people who would have voted for him otherwise. Also, it's only a problem if it turns away more voters than it gains him. One thing the cuckservatives never take into account is that what offends one group might inspire another larger group.

Also, he hasn't offended "everyone." At worst, he's offended Hispanics with immigrant sympathies -- who weren't going to vote for him -- and liberals who are offended on their behalf -- who weren't going to vote for him -- and hard-driving career women -- who weren't going to vote for him (and who aren't really offended anyway). The few Republican votes that are in that mix could easily be made up from working-class whites who would respond to an immigration moratorium plan.

Not saying he's going to do that, and I'm not sure how well he could connect with working-class Americans in battleground states, what with his New York rich guy persona. But those votes are there to be had.

The panty wetting is amusing, especially among Crown Prince Jeb! supporters.

But I'm not taking Trump seriously until he starts winning primaries. And I don't mean Iowa, they might vote for him just to annoy the rest of the country.

There is the chance that Trump will be the savior (in the short term at least) of the GOP. A party split is extremely likely at the moment. The sheer and utter contempt the establishment has shown the conservative base makes this quite possible.

People who, two years ago were calling Boehner and McConnel, RINOs, have stopped calling themselves Republicans at all. Myself included.

A single issue third party is unlikely to survive without it's leader and Trump is pushing seventy and lets face it, he's no ideologue, he's just an egomaniac.

Of course the GOP could end his run tomorrow by adopting a hardline on immigration but they won't. The dream of a new multi-ethnic base has become a siren song to the GOP establishment. And they are convinced that Jeb! is the man to deliver it.

Anonymous zen0 August 10, 2015 8:32 PM

Blogger Danby August 10, 2015 8:43 PM

the thing is, most women agree with Trump about Megyn Kelly. literally, that was my wife's reaction too, "Take a couple of Midol and lie down, honey." Women, of all people, know how bitchy they get. Besides, any woman not as good looking as Kelly, or in the same range, wants to say nasty things about her. And better looking women a sneering at her anyway.

And that's why the only people complaining about this are either gamma white knights, or women who identify with Kelly. And women who happen to be having their period, of course, but they're irrational bitches so they can be safely ignored..

Blogger David-093 August 10, 2015 8:53 PM

Trump criticized Bush again in another ad showing Jeb supporting Dubyas war and Bush the Elder doing his infamous tax lie. At the end it says, "The third time won't be the charm."

Anonymous Sheila August 10, 2015 8:58 PM

Danby, I would argue that women are bitchy period, regardless of whether they're having PMS or simply being women. Megyn Kelly is attractive and obviously intelligent, but pulling that sort of "sexist" card while moderator to a debate on the faux conservative network just reeked of middle school. (Please note I did not watch the debate nor any other television; all my info on this contretemps is via the internet.)

I have no plans to vote regardless of who is the candidate this year, but I'm greatly enjoying the theatre and Trump breaking all the PC rules. Yes, he's a blowhard and a buffoon and his political positions are rather incoherent, but ultimately none of that matters. We're not voting our way out of this, and he could hardly do worse than anyone else.

If he apologizes for anything, his usefulness is finished. In the meantime, as David 093 so succinctly noted, "in a nation of geldings, the one-testicled man is king."

"if they're going to go to all the trouble of portraying one as a monster, well, one almost has an artistic duty to ensure that one fulfills all their worst nightmares and then some."

A woman came to my plant booth and we got talking about marijuana legalization. I agreed it should be legalized... but then she said "It's not legal because of those damn Christians who don't want us to have any fun. You know, they want to BURN women!"

I looked at her calmly and said, "First of all, I AM one of those Christians... and second of all, I don't see anything wrong with burning women."

She blinked about five times and couldn't figure out what to say, until she blurted out "Well, we lesbians would like to see all men castrated! That would end war and make the world a better place!"

I shrugged and responded, "As long as you start with the bankers, okay?"

She then walked away. Later she waved to me and smiled from across the parking lot as I was on my way out.

Game works.

Josh and Nate aren't here. It's not a sign of cowardice, it's a sign of possibly having a life. But you've made whip out the google. I knew Vox would define his terms, and so he has, quite clearly:

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with disagreeing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with criticizing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with attempting to demonstrate why your position is superior to another one.

"But DISQUALIFY is the singular tactic of the stupid and the shameless. It is what they reliably resort to because they cannot successfully make a rational case for their own positions or construct a rational critique of the positions presented by others."

Nate and Josh have not been Disqualifying, they've been making a rational case and arguing it. I'm not White Knighting them, as I'm sure they can and will make their own case. But I have been agreeing with them. Plus, you have to concede that their claim that you're poopy-heads is devastating.

Given time Trump could mop the floor with Obama but with Obama you never know if you're going to get the 'baked' version or not. "The avalanche of stories and think pieces about trigger warnings, mattress-carrying bluestockings, and freakouts over “misgendering” someone who as of only a month ago was still a man have painted a very unflattering picture of our national culture. America, the land of the free and the home of the brave, appears to be in danger of becoming the land of the fragile and the home of the breakable. Everyone, both Left and Right, is getting fed up with treating their fellow citizens like overpriced glassware.

"Into this great American China shop steps Donald Trump, aka the bull. If Donald Trump didn’t exist, someone would have to invent him... the man will probably perform at least one public service by making it that much safer to speak honestly about your political views."

With all due respect to its proponents, that single line item Trumps the argument about him being a stalking horse. He is already leading without even being the great leader. Time to agree and amplify, as @43 Viidad demonstrates. He is no Prince Phillip either- Trump actually did cut all those deals and build all that stuff for real. The bafoonery is merely grist for the bafoons.

Question for the political scientists: how many microaggressions are there in one full-up aggression?

It's actually quite the clever portmanteau; a baboon and buffoon all in one.

If Donald Trump didn’t exist, someone would have to invent him... the man will probably perform at least one public service by making it that much safer to speak honestly about your political views."

That's the crux: we're getting loads of people claiming the regular GOP candidates would be talking about immigration and these other issues even if Trump weren't in the contest, so he's just stealing their thunder. But as far as I can tell, no one's presented any evidence to support that. It's just bald assertion.

All the evidence we've seen from past elections is that they'd pussy-foot around the edges of the issues that matter, spouting vague platitudes that don't mean anything. We'd get some competitive races between nobodies in Iowa and New Hampshire, then the "real" race would start, and Bush would pull ahead with the advantage he has in donations, even though no one seems excited about him. Just as in 2000. It surprised me then; it won't again.

So again: if Trump kills Bush's chances, he's earned my thanks, no matter what else happens. Bush III is the script and has been for at least 16 years; all I want to see is that script spoiled. If Trump bows out before he has to and throws his support to Bush and his NAFTA-style plans, then I'll concede that Nate was right and Trump was a GOP pawn (though I still don't see how that would help Bush more than sticking to the original Trump-free plan). Anything else, and I'm satisfied.

Oh come on now. Goodyear "invented" vulcanized rubber by forgetting a pot on the stove, such bafoonery. Maybe he was actually trying to brew up some mash, who's to say?

@82 If you're not willing to discuss the elephant in the room, then the lowest servant who notices it becomes a prophet.

There we are. Restating as a reactionary, running dog, capitalist pig might:
If the oppressed masses are not willing to discuss the elephant in the room, then the sharpest operator who notices it first makes a profit.

That's how trends always start. And maybe Protein World and all the rest have already given the sharper operators a heads up on a new market trend. Maybe there's something there to be capitalized on- and screw the alleged US Presidency btw. Who in their right mind wants to play Captain Smith on the cuck RMS Olympic?

C'mon, just go with the flow, don't be a baffoon about it. Or maybe just drink more.

@26 Everyone's tired of scolds. From wiki:

In the common law of crime in England and Wales, a common scold was a species of public nuisance—a troublesome and angry woman who broke the public peace by habitually arguing and quarreling with her neighbours. The Latin name for the offender, communis rixatrix, appears in the feminine gender...The prescribed penalty for this offence involved dunking the convicted offender in water in an instrument called the "cuckng stool".

Blogger Mr.MantraMan August 11, 2015 7:16 AM

"No scold Braa" Now if we could only come up with an international street sign for it.

As an aside maybe about ten years ago I would have delivered the standard conservative scolding to blacks call it the "Lecture", but that is in the past and better served to the few cuckservatives who have not got the new message from the Left, "They're Africans let them be Africans" and they are.

While this is no equivalent to the chili, I'd love to see this become a bit of a meme.

A million, of course. But in a pinch, you can round up from 500,001. Last time I was accused of a micro-aggression, I told the person who accused me to get with me after 999,999 more. Maybe then, I'd offer them one insincere apology.

From the last thread, VD said, "I am paying next to no attention to the US presidential election. I barely know who is running."

Given the subsequent threads about the election, VD is sounding a little bit like the kid in class who says he probably just failed the test but then gets the highest grade in the class when the teacher returns the tests.

What I want to know is, if Trump was Hirohito, would he invade the West Coast of the United States of America

Or another question, if Trump was President of USA, would he invade northern Mexico?

@46 Fp

Why doubling down of course (another SJW law) and chanting more and louder (see prophets of Baal in the OT)
--------------------------

I've observed this for a while also. They remind me of an old movie (forgot what it was) where they had some chimps and they could push a button to get a banana to pop out of a machine. Then, sometimes the banana wouldn't come out, and the chimp rage would begin as they pound the button over and over with nothing new happening, other than the spectators being further amused.

And I know just the "troops" to invade them with. Every immigrant on any kind of government assistance, every immigrant accused of a crime, every immigrant who's been involved in any kind of fraudulent scheme to come to America.

That'd clean out 95% of our immigrants—legal and illegal—from the last several decades.

And if Mexico complains, clearly communicate to them that their actions over the last several decades to us with their encouragement of sending 25% of their citizens into our country, mostly illegally, to plunder our people are the equivalent of an act of war. They can either take everyone we give back to them and shut their traps about it, or find themselves squarely targeted as our most significant geopolitical foe, with decades of enemy action requiring payback.

"LGBTQ Tech & Innovation Summit"I'm imagining some perv figuring out an algorithm that calculates the best chances for an anonymous encounter in the bushes at the local park.

More like obese black lesbian unable to figure out why lesbians are obese She has a clue it has to do with how many wedding cakes she ate recently, but needs help converting it to code.

Just to be clear, most are Mexican but a significant percentage are from other countries.

It would just be easier to invade and make it a protectorate or something like that considering all those lovely consumer products Mexico makes for the US. "The spice must flow!"

Cail - The only thing most of the Republicans would be discussing would be how to get illegals work permits and benefits without allowing citizenship, amnesty, how to give them benefits and voting rights and more amnesty. There is the odd ball out there who understands that the US is the US and has actual borders and stuff but most are simply trying to figure out how to lower wages in the US and bring in all the low wage workers.

I say we build a fence give away rural land along the border to anyone with the skills and motivation to catch border jumpers. Give them a bounty for each one stopped. Make the land grants big and extend it for a mile like we did for the railroads.

Extra bonus for shutting down tunnels. Any of those caught can be sent back or put to work reinforcing the wall or doing maintenance. In urban areas we'd need to work out a different system but most of it is rural. For tribes along the border that do not allow non members to own land recruit from the tribe. In national parks suck it up and build anyway.

Open carry required at all times for guys who get the land grants while they're at home.

End birthright citizenship, jail employers and sanctuary city politicians or any politician that advocates any kind of amnesty.

@25

The correct quote is not "Theyre murderers, theyre rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.". It is "Their murderers. Their rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.". Rewind the tape a few seconds and you'll see that he is talking about the Mexican government dumping their problems on us.

The misquote has led a lot of people to believe that Trump is harder on immigration than he really is.
