Directly over the target

We know SJW posteriors are burning like Dresden after Plate Rack passed overhead because their antics in response to the release of SJWs Always Lie are off-the-charts crazy. There are, of course, the expected fake reviews, whose authors somehow seem to think that by illustrating the premise of the book in living color, they will somehow discredit it.

He is the only person to be kicked out of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in its nearly fifty year history.
By C. Buser on August 27, 2015
... as a fleshed-out rehashing of his blogspot posts, previous commentary and opinion stated by the author about his personal political philosophy serve as valid advertisement as to whether or not an impartial Amazon shopper would be interested in this product, and a review of his previous statements and blogspot posts serve as a review of this book, which is repackaged and expanded for your convenience for the cover charge.

The book itself is named after one of his "Three Laws of Social Justice Warriors", a reference to Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics:

#1 - SJWs always lie.
#2 - SJWs always double down.
#3 - SJWs always project.

Thus, if you like his blogspot, and the previous examples of his political philosophy, and admire him for his expulsion from the SFWA, then this is something you would enjoy reading. If you disagree with his three laws, you wouldn't enjoy this book.
56 of 188 people found the review helpful
I'm not sure which I find more astonishing, the fact that a few SJWs actually took the time to post these "reviews", the observation that nearly 60 SJWs showed up to pretend that they were helpful, or the idea that I got the idea for the three laws from Asimov. At least the latter does tend to explain why they prefer fantasy to SF. But what definitely takes the cake is Rainbow Brite Boy publishing a brief parody entitled John Scalzi Is Not A Very Popular Author And I Myself Am Quite Popular: How SJWs Always Lie About Our Comparative Popularity Levels, which has now reached #2 in Political Philosophy, right behind the book it is attempting to DISQUALIFY. And wait, there's more! The SJWs are also engaged in a charity drive so that John Scalzi will read it for the audio version.

As you can see, this is a masterful rhetorical response that totally proves the falsity of the Second Law of SJW: SJWs Always Double Down.

One of my friends sent me an email last night that I think aptly describes the situation. "WTF, are you PAYING these people or something?" And just to ice the crazy cake, we've now officially gone meta as there are now fake fake reviews being posted.

And while I'm not surprised by the nature of the reaction of the science fiction SJWs to the book, I am amazed by the vehemence behind it. They are absolutely furious to see that a book unmasking them was not only published by me, but is riding the very wave of media attention that they themselves created to success. That's the importance of the parody in their minds; if it can become even more popular than SJWs Always Lie, that will disqualify it and render it harmless, thereby relieving the stress they are presently feeling. As I said back in 2013, these people are cargo cultists; the concept of the way in which they have volunteered to serve as my de facto publicists doesn't even cross their twisted little minds. Their priority is to wave the totem that will allow them to strike a superior pose and thereby make the feelbads go away.
Totally Legit Review
ByEssJayDouble U "OppressedTumblrette"on August 27, 2015

I was told by my echo chamber to come post a nasty review here. I also have lots of time seeing as my job is being an internet activist. As you can tell I actually haven't read this book but it was written by a white man. The era of the white man is over. It's time for them to shut up and move over so that the muffled voices of their victims can speak up.

Now here comes the part where I'm suppose to tell you about the writer (which may or may not be true, but you better listen and believe what I say as a victim of this white man's world) and why this should be reason enough not to buy the book even though me telling you about the writer gives you no actual details about the book and why it isn't worth the purchase. Instead it's me telling you why we must dismiss this horrible person all based upon his identity.

For starters he's white. White men have oppressed us minorities for long enough. Secondly, I hear that this guy likes Chinese food. That's offensive and oppressive to the Chinese. Those smart people can't speak up for themselves so I'm doing it for them! I also hear that his wife loves wearing kimonos. Talk about being offensive and oppressive to the Japanese. And his son... My gosh I hear that his son calls ISIS a terrorist group. Looks like he's daddy's little islamophoic boy. Racist boy. And his daughter. Oh his daughter says she doesn't need feminism. The poor thing must have internalized misogyny. How dare a woman claim not to need feminism. All women are feminists!

And then there's that Milo guy. I hear he works for some right wing turd of a media outlet. RIGHT WING! I've also seen Milo going around proudly saying that he gives Donald Trump positive coverage all in exchange for strands of Trump's own hair that he then uses as hair extensions. Did I mention RIGHT WING!

Do you really want to support horrible racist, oppressive right wingers? Instead take you 5 bucks and donate to one of the awesome women that these men have help to harass. By buying this book another poor oppressed child dies over in oppression land.

Oh did I mention that my reasons may or may not be true? Just listen and believe or a poor oppressed women of color will die over in oppression land.

Trust me, after reading this book it isn't worth the money.

Good god, these people *named* the Streisand Effect. Do they seriously never remember it works both ways?

There might be a few people who would take that Buser review seriously, but the others are quite obviously written by people who haven't read it. I hope you reported them to Amazon for fraud.

The last one sounds like you paid a decent satirist for it, though.

Awesome. You can write a sequel just off of their Amazon responses alone.

Can you modify the book description to reference the comments section? Pointing potential buyers to the obvious butthurt trolling might be the best thing you could do.

Thanks for writing the book, Vox. I thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the concise summaries of GG and the Puppies stuff, and because of the valuable educational lessons within it was well worth the money spent.

These latest SJW shenanigans are the icing on the cake - it's almost like they're writing another chapter for you that's playing out in real time, and it's quickly shifting from educational to pure entertainment. At this point I feel like I've gotten at least double my money's worth out of the purchase or more. When the dust settles you should consider releasing an addendum chronicling all of this.

I'm tempted to write a satirical review myself; encouraging white men to avoid supporting this Indian/Mexican soccer player who has a predilection for tall, blond, Nordic women (What is he, some sort of modern day Commanchero?).

Blogger VD August 28, 2015 8:52 AM

An honest question: as an introvert, do you in any way enjoy this attention?

I'm of two minds. Emotionally, I dislike excessive positive and negative attention alike, but since it's only Internet-attention, it's very easy to turn off when I get sick of it. It was harder when I was in a band and worked as a newspaper columnist because I would get recognized when I was out and about. Since I live in Europe, nobody I know gives a damn; at least half of my acquaintances would be surprised to hear I'd ever written a book, much less 12 or whatever. It's not something I usually discuss with anyone except SB. Most of my colleagues in the game industry regard it as no more than an amusing quirk, of no more interest than another guy having a theology degree or a fishing boat.

Intellectually, I know this is very good for the book, for Castalia, and for my other books, so I welcome it.

Anonymous WhiteKnightLeo #0368 August 28, 2015 9:16 AM

I checked out all of the reviews. There's a weird 4-star talking about the upside-down pineapple cake and reupholstering his chair...? WTF?

Reported all the short 1-star ones. The two long ones obviously read at least part of it, so I left them alone.

One claims that he was posting excerpts on Twitter, and "Vox Day's followers" were claiming he was trying to make you look bad. I've got no idea what he's talking about, since I'm not on Twitter, but given your penchant for just not giving a shit how people interpret what you say, it's easy to post stuff out of context.

Anonymous PVB August 28, 2015 9:28 AM

A weird fake review:

4This book is worth buying for the pineapple upside-down cake ...
ByHyman Rosenon August 27, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition

This book is worth buying for the pineapple upside-down cake recipe in chapter 6 alone. The rings of pepperoni and flecks of bacon combine with the tartness of the pineapple for a very unique flavor. And if you need to reupholster your dining-room chairs, chapter 3 is for you. I have sat on many such a chair only to have screw tips from the underside dig into my thighs. Now I know why, and how to avoid the problem!

I think chapter 9 was extraneous, though. In the modern age of music players and flat-screen TVs, I don't think we really need a guide to repairing old vacuum tube TV sets and transistor radios. But that's a minor cavil. Buy this book - it's worthy of an award!

Anonymous Alsos August 28, 2015 10:13 AM

Apart from the spot-on examples it provides of what Vox argues in the book, is Scalzi's response not also a textbook example of solipsism?

If he hadn't been mentioned in the book at all, the most we would have heard about it from him would probably have been a half-dozen of his trademark snarky mean-girl tweets. But since he is the star of one chapter, he goes to the opposite extreme, as if he sees the entire book being about him.

He isn't going to the opposite extreme. He wants to be talking about making movies with Tom Hanks and his book tour, not whether he lied about his traffic or not five years ago. Vox, are you familiar with Ray Bradbury's essay titled Coda? It strikes me as very relevant to your fight to free Science Fiction from the death grip by SJWs:

About two years ago, a letter arrived from a solemn young Vassar lady telling me how much she enjoyed my experiment in space mythology, The Martian Chronicles.

But, she added, wouldn't it be a good idea, this late in time, to rewrite the book inserting more women's characters and roles?

A few years before that I got a certain amount of mail concerning the same Martian book complaining that the blacks in the book were Uncle Toms and why didn't I "do them over"?

...

The point is obvious. There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches. Every minority, be it Baptist / Unitarian, Irish / Italian / Octogenarian / Zen Buddhist, Zionist/Seventh-day Adventist, Women's Lib/Republican, Mattachine/FourSquareGospel feel it has the will, the right, the duty to douse the kerosene, light the fuse. Every dimwit editor who sees himself as the source of all dreary blanc-mange plain porridge unleavened literature, licks his guillotine and eyes the neck of any author who dares to speak above a whisper or write above a nursery rhyme.

Fire-Captain Beatty, in my novel Fahrenheit 451, described how the books were burned first by the minorities, each ripping a page or a paragraph from the book, then that, until the day came when the books were empty and the minds shut and the library closed forever.

This was included in the copy my wife and I have of Fahrenheit 451, but the full thing has been reposted online in a few places.

Just to repeat what Vox said, get over there and mark the one-star reviews as unhelpful (so they are not displayed) and report them as inappropriate (so they get removed); they are all clearly fraudulent.

Amazon works purely on numbers, no one is reading any of the comments. TURN UP and vote or see their awful parody take the top spot. As the book describes, they will stop at nothing.

And ffs, don't wait for someone else to do it. This is about NUMBERS and EVERYBODY turning up.

Looking your negative reviews, I think you need a 4th law:

4. SJWs always deflect

When presented with a rational or objective argument that causes them mental pain due to reality colliding with their cognitive identity, they seek to deflect the conversation away from the logical point and into the realm of their subjective feelings. Their subjective feelings being the standard upon which reality should be based.

It is quite telling that in no negative review are your points ever actually addressed. At no point is it ever argued that your rules are incorrect. They simply move into the Candyland and rainbows world inside their head at which point you are simply the bad guy and no amount of objective fact can change that. I think at some instinctual level they have found that they can't be wrong in a whacked out world of their own making and Progressivism is just the world they pull over their eyes to protect their fragile egos.

Started reading the book last night, it had several actually laugh out loud moments. One of my favs was the line about making comments on the radio when your opponent was a member of a techno band!
BTW, that techno piece was pretty good, think I'm gonna download a copy and stick it in the mix I listen to while writing. I especially like the fact that it's probably illegal in certain European countries :-)

Many years ago, when SJW's were starting out, I had a serious confrontation with one at my job, that could have ruined my career. That was when I learned the only proper response is to attack them right back, playing nice or giving in, is a sign of weakness to them. As Vox says: They always project. If you play on that projection, you can easily scare them into backing off.

Great book Vox! And your timing, is as always, impeccable.

Blogger Cataline Sergius August 28, 2015 12:22 PM

SJW swarm around this book is interesting, if you have read the book.

The swarming was completely reflexive on their part. They simply could not avoid doing it. Even though they all know it is completely pointless. They can't get to Vox in anyway because he is completely beyond their reach. The can't get him fired. They can't ban his books from the bookstore. The fact is that any attempt to harm him, only builds him up.

But the hive mind as I've said before is not an intelligent one. The swarm reflex was triggered, so they had to swarm. They literally had no choice. Even if the best option so far as they were concerned would have been dead silence.

They appear to be rushing through the stages. Not quite deliberately, they really have no choice about doing any of this. The procedure must be followed. They shot through stages 1 to 5 pretty quickly. Stage 6 is a non-starter as there is no amenable authority other than possibly Amazon itself, (something to keep an eye on in the future).

The fund raiser for Con or Bust constitutes the Show Trial.

And Scalzi's reading is supposed to be the Victory Parade.

It's all there if you know what to look for.

I usually promote a common idea that stress promotes temptations thus sin and mistakes. The SJW cannot be objective and lives in such odd states of stress/fear its rather interesting to observe. But sad overall, yet pity is not part of the assistance package, what is part of the recoveries of SJW's has to be some kind of miracle.

At this point its not amusing or interesting to read others fall into faulty thinking and awful or not thought through versions of reality or logic.

The best solution was what Vox provided, a perfectly available to all book regarding the topic, hopefully sjws can turn their minds around.

Blogger SirHamster (#201) August 28, 2015 1:58 PM

I've actually found that fake SJW reviews actually often are helpful. They tell me which works I'm likely to enjoy and why; in direct opposition to their stated intention.

Some people don't realize that a negative signal can carry the exact same information as a positive signal. And so provide exactly that information that encourages others to buy the book.

Sometimes, we ought to be very, very thankful for our enemies.

Blogger Jim Rizzi August 28, 2015 2:01 PM

At some point, I'd like to look further into this "Con or Bust" thing. It's the charity Scalzi is hyping for the audio version of the parody book. Interestingly, at least to me, it's also the nonprofit organization Hines chose to donate the proceeds of his blog-post book, the one titled Invisible.

The nonprofit's website lets us know it's run by Kate Nepveu, under the umbrella of The Carl Brandon Society. I was curious to learn more so I went looking for any 990 Forms that may have been filed. I haven't gotten far in this search, but I did come across this site: http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-0140141/carl-brandon-society.aspx

There, I read the following:

"Legitimacy Information

This organization has not appeared in IRS records for a number of months and may no longer exist.

This organization's exempt status was automatically revoked by the IRS for failure to file a Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, or 990-PF for 3 consecutive years. Further investigation and due diligence are warranted."

Another reason to report fake reviews: I don't know how Amazon's system works under the hood, but if I programmed a review system with "was this review helpful?" buttons like theirs, the whole point would be to score reviewers up or down based on reactions to their reviews (not the number of stars they give, but how many people say their reviews are helpful/unhelpful), and promote reviews from high-scoring accounts to the top. Reviews from accounts scoring low would appear at the bottom of the pile, or not at all if their score were low enough. Reports requiring actual eyeballs on a review would get a massive negative score if the review were found to be against the rules, and accounts dropping below a certain score would be limited or banned from reviewing.

Again, I have no idea if it does all that, but it's all fairly obvious stuff, and not hard to do once you have the data. So there's a good chance that reporting fake reviews will make it harder for them to post other fake reviews, at least with an account that has built up some reputation.

At my last job I was the victim of an SJW attack with a coworker who had been my project manager and lost my job. I wish that this book had existed then and that I had read it. SJW types are everywhere and in these days you are never safe. You have to remember that it's never about you, it's about them. There is nothing you can do to deter the attack once it starts. You can only counterattack or decide that it's over and burn them down. Though, you won't need to do that, as in my experience the SJW types will be perfectly and naturally happy in burning the place down all by themselves without your help out of pure spite.

Artifex @107: "4. SJWs always deflect"

I disagree on three counts.

For one thing, we really only need the three, since once you accept that there are at least three such laws, you will quickly see more on your own.

For another, that is not the fourth-most salient law; for just one example, "SJWs are never satisfied" has predictive value at both the strategic and tactical levels.

For the last, a good law is a general one; for example, although it is true that "SJWs always devour their own," that's just one of the natural corollaries of never being satisfied. Likewise, "SJWs always deflect" is a corollary of "SJWs can't logic," and we don't need a separate law for each fallacy.

Russell - and the Rabbi's winning. I don't even know what that was he posted at 12:52, but it made my retinas catch fire.

Torial - Not me.

Were-Puppy - Alexandra Erin is like a cruel caricature of SJW's. He's almost too perfect to be real.

Maybe he's the latest Sacha Baron Cohen comic creation.

Viidad - I can't begrudge Mr Erin making a few quid off the sweat of his moobs.

For it is written that a fool and his money are easily parted, and if you read AE's blog (and I do, as a guilty pleasure), you may be shocked to find that morbidly obese trannies who wear rainbow wigs and dog collars are unemployable.

Also, though it was not his intention, he's provided us with lots of lulz and Vox with free publicity.

I bet Phil Sandifer is pulling his beard out at not having thought of it first. Think of the Tardis-shaped fleshlight he could have bought with that Amazon money, that Erin's going to spend on food.

The Scalzi-written parody is at 896 while SJW's Always Lie is at 313 and seems to be on its way down (to lower numbers) again.

If they spent $100k just to not give people I recommended awards, I expect they'll throw a good deal of money to sell more copies of the parody than the real thing.

Which is great, considering that the book is an advertisement for Scalzi being a liar.

Blogger Markku August 28, 2015 5:51 PM

But guess who's REALLY laughing all the way to the bank here?

Amazon.

Good job, Tor...

This is a publicist's dream come true for SJWs Always Lie. May scads more Unwittings pile on in the days ahead.

Oh, and as an aside, isn't Scalzi the mercenary, wanting to be paid to read their little work of puzzz. Scalzi is not helping out the warren is he?

Anonymous WaterBoy August 28, 2015 6:12 PM

Well, would you look at that...Vox now has his very own flea(s) (plural to be), and can start quoting Yeats himself.

Just like Dawkins...Day's Fleas.

Well done, old sport!

The Chapter 5 thing reminds me of a trik I sometimes play. Put one glaring error into a paper just to see if anyone's paying attention. The clowns will invariably zero in on the error and ignore everything else. It acts as a sort of clown filter. Of course, I'm sure VD wouldn't be so devious.

Blogger Michael Maier August 28, 2015 6:29 PM

These 1-star morons and the buyers of this parody probably think "BORED OF THE RINGS"is great writing too. I really wonder about what passes for humour..

As someone posted here a while ago, the great thing about SJWs--and the reason some companies love them--is that they'll buy any old crap so long as it has the right slogans on the front.

It's like Franken's "Rush Limbaugh" book. After the rave reviews I expected something stupid but amusing so I read some of it in the bookstore. It was painfully unfunny. It was like reading a toothless version of Ann Coulter's pitbull books, just lacking her wit. And balls.

Blogger Jack Aubrey August 28, 2015 6:33 PM

@176 I thought Bored of the Rings was great writing when I was fifteen. Don't imagine I'd have the same reaction to it now.

On Scalzi's Whatever blog, "Dorien" is calling bullshit on Scalzi's "charity," supposedly a 501(c) tax deductible charity under the "umbrella" of the Carl Brandon Society.

"I just spoke to the IRS. According to them, the Carl Brandon Society’s 501(c) was revoked as of May 15, 2013 and NO contributions to the Carl Brandon Society made AFTER August 12, 2013 are tax deductible.

The IRS official also stated that there is no record of the Carl Brandon Society acting as an “umbrella” for ANY organization. He didn’t even know what that meant.

Call them yourself if you want. 877-829-5500.

You are being had."

Rabbit pelts make such warm jockstrap linings!

Anonymous Curious August 28, 2015 7:18 PM

The amount of money Scalzi and friends are making is less than what SJWs Always Lie makes for its author.

Blogger Jim Rizzi August 28, 2015 7:31 PM

@183 Minion #0172,

Hahahahaha

I had a weird feeling about that charity after Hines donated proceeds to it, then Scalzi followed suit. Someone please screen cap Scalzi's quote about it all being tax deductible.

Probably shouldn't have mentioned it in open on the blog though. Probably should have emailed Vox for a more proper and fun announcement.

Anonymous Til August 28, 2015 7:38 PM

@184

We don't care. Note that Vox has written a 200 page book that people are calling very informative and entertaining, while this joke-reply book is 28 pages.

We reward effort around here. Imagine that.

Blogger JCclimber August 28, 2015 7:44 PM

The fake fake review at least proves that the SJWs have not quite achieved the ultimate in being beyond parody.

So, they have that going for them, at least.

Blogger Danby August 28, 2015 7:57 PM

In my comment on Alexander's 1-star review, (since deleted for calling him a rainbow-haired twink), I noted "Just be grateful he kept his comment under 10k words.
Evidently he saved that up for his parody.

Blogger James Dixon August 28, 2015 7:58 PM

Well, being a dutiful VFM, I wandered over to Amazon, logged on to my account, read all the one star reviews, and marked all but one as unhelpful. C. Buser's review was at least coherent and could be useful to some readers.

Blogger Jim Rizzi August 28, 2015 8:02 PM

All humor aside though, falsely claiming 501(c) status isn't a good thing to do. If this is indeed the case, it feels a little bit like fraud, doesn't it?

They could be in violation of US Internal Revenue Code Sec 501. I imagine the IRS could look into this. This may also be fraud on a state level, depending on the statutes; I think they operate out of Washington, but I'm not sure, nor am I familiar with the statutes in the state of Washington.

Additionally, it's reasonable that anyone who had reason to expect a tax deduction could sue them.

Something to keep in mind: anyone who donated to them thinking they could write it off last year, and then did write it off, well...they might want to file an amended return. Just a thought.

Anonymous Minion #0172 August 28, 2015 8:09 PM

And now Scalzi shuts down all comments about his "charity" Con or Bust fraudulently claiming 501(c) status for over two years after their "umbrella" organization The Carl Brandon Society had their certification revoked. Just an honest mistake, don't ya know?

As does Mike Glyer at File 770 after giving unlicensed tax advice to the warren.

Let the rabbits be sheared!

Anonymous Nathan August 28, 2015 8:19 PM

Is that that "charity" the same one that Mary Robinette Kowal was pushing prior to her naked vote buying?

Blogger Jim Rizzi August 28, 2015 8:24 PM

Not sure which time you mean, Nathan, but yeah, MRK did pick Con or Bust after the Rothfus Twitter contest. DAW donated something like a $1,000 to them.

There may be more examples, but that's all I know of right now.

1. Mary Robinette Kowal, the DAW contest.
2. Jim C. Hines, INVISIBLE book proceeds.
3. John Scalzi, audio book

Anonymous Nathan August 28, 2015 8:49 PM

That would be the one she was shilling. Seems like a stupid idea that reinforces "you're not a real fan unless you go to our cons" to me, but I'd rather have the $100-$200 of a con membership in books instead of a three day visit to listen to a bunch of people older than my parents. I can always reread the books, after all. But if it helps someone, and the money isn't being embezzled by fraudulent claims of charity, I'd rather they spend their money there.

O. Coombes = Philip Sandifer

Blogger Cail Corishev August 28, 2015 9:04 PM

One of the more disgusting things I've learned from these recent controversies is how much money people make just being SJWs. Some wanker will have a few articles scattered around and some thin fan-fic books that would have been posted to Usenet for free a decade ago, but he still makes enough money to split the utilities with his mom. A girl can do nothing for years except harass people on the Internet and make $3K/month in donations. Some of them don't seem to take a leak without applying for a grant to pay for their time. None of them does anything that adds value to anything, but they all have scads of free time and money to blow.

I think I'm working too hard.

Anonymous Minion #0172 August 28, 2015 9:13 PM

And the lady who runs Con or Bust says she had no clue the Carl Brandon Society wasn't tax exempt.

From Scalzi's blog Whatever You Moronic Rabbits Will Buy

#

Kate Nepveu says:
AUGUST 28, 2015 AT 8:43 PM
In addition: I would like to assure everyone that I had no idea that there was any question about the Carl Brandon Society’s IRS status, that I am looking into it, and that in any event, 100% of all donations to Con or Bust are spent directly and fully on grants to fans of color to attend SFF cons. I donate all of my expenses, such postage and web hosting, and the Carl Brandon Society donates PayPal fees and other administrative costs.

#

See, just two years and 3 months after the IRS pulled the plug she just now found out about it. Yeah, honest mistake.

And if that wasn't enough, apparently Alexandra Erin is a Person of Color because Con or Bust helped "her" to attend SF/F conventions. Really, who knew?

Anonymous rubberducky August 28, 2015 9:16 PM

Wow look at that maniac, Scalzi! Boy does he always find a way to disappoint, or what?

You can't tell people their donations are tax deductible when they aren't. That's not just a lie, it's potentially a crime should anyone chose to prosecute. I guess he's banking on the probability that the amount of donations is too trivial to trigger anybody's threshold of materiality, and folks will skate.

Still, that's a helluva way to do business. And questions regarding legal status of Con or Bust were raised on his blog, so he can't feign ignorance.

Anonymous Minion #0172 August 28, 2015 9:23 PM

Scalzi's claiming about $7000 in donations now. If they're claimed on tax returns the US govt will be out about $2100.
