RomanceGate

It's hardly a surprise to learn that the SJWs are attempting to thought-police the romance genre as well as games, comics, and science fiction:
The Nazi romance novel For Such a Time, by bookseller-turned-author Kate Breslin, drew little attention outside of a small but passionate romance literature community when it was published in the spring of 2014.

Now, after being nominated for two major prizes at the Romance Writers of America's annual conference in late July, the book's Holocaust-set themes of Christian salvation are tearing the romance world apart—and roiling Gamergaters rushing to its defense....

The group took interest after outspoken science fiction writer and game designer Vox Day shared Wendell's post on his blog. In an interview with Newsweek, Day—whose blog has previously compared feminists to Nazis—described Wendell as an "SJW" (code for "Social Justice Warrior") and argued that "political correctness" is a "major problem" in the United States.

"It's another example of SJW's attempting to thought-police a particular industry or genre," Day says of the Breslin outrage. He compares it to the scuffle over the 2015 Hugo Awards, while others have likened it to the #WeNeedDiverseBooks campaign that fought to diversify children's literature.

"Obviously a lot of people liked the book, because they nominated it," Day adds. "What they're trying to do is disqualify all those people's opinions because they disagree with them. It's something that the SJWs are getting more and more blatant about, and I think people are getting more and more tired of their attempts to impose political correctness and impose thought-policing on everyone else. Donald Trump's not having any of it, and I'm certainly not either."

Day's followers took the bait. Wendell was distressed to learn from a friend that his post had drawn dozens of comments, some denigrating her and mocking her blog by calling it "Cat-Lady Central." One commenter went so far as to write that "as long as the SJWs support Moloch Worship (aka Planned Parenthood) that traffics in baby parts, they have no right to criticize the Nazis."

Day says that abusive treatment is par for the course. "I have absolutely no concern for [Wendell]'s feelings about people speaking rudely about her. She is trying to thought-police people; she deserves every bit of criticism she gets."
Much to my surprise, Newsweek actually soft-pedaled it a bit. They could have mentioned that I have compared feminists to Nazis... to the detriment of the feminists. I believe the exact quote is: "calling a feminist a feminazi is an insult to the German National Socialist Worker's Party."

Anyhow, what we're seeing here is the SJWs attempts to utilize the power of the press to marginalize and discredit me backfiring on them. It was their running to every media outlet from The Guardian to the New Zealand Herald, from NPR to Entertainment Weekly that brought me to the attention of other media outlets that are not simply pushing their libel campaign, including publications such as Newsweek.

It is a little ironic, of course, that I have been interviewed half as many times by national publications concerning a story in which I am not at all involved as I have been about either of the actual stories in which I am directly involved, #GamerGate or Sad Puppies. But that simply demonstrates the utter corruption and ineptitude of the SJW-infested media. One must not speak to anyone who might disrupt the Narrative, after all.

Read the whole thing. Notice how simply calling the SJWs out puts them immediately on the defensive. They don't like to be called thought police because that is exactly what they are. In every conflict, someone will end up advancing and someone will end up retreating. Shoot down their assertions as briefly as possible, then go right after them. Whenever you're faced with an SJW, call them out for thought policing. Call them out for speech policing. Or call them out for the sheer absurdity of their statements.

For example, the next person to respond to one of Wendell's attacks should hammer her for saying that "redeeming Nazis through the power of Christian salvation sounds like a bad idea."  She doesn't think Nazis should be redeemed, so what does she think, they should be encouraged?

The funny thing is that every time I read the word Wendell, our noble spokesmanatee kept coming to mind. It made the whole experience that much more enjoyably surreal. Meeewhooooo Hoooon! And the reaction of the SJW twitterati is even funnier.

Only if I could have back those years.

She was a good mother like that. When she told me 'not to do something' without a reason, I knew it was a joke. She would leave the house and give a list of things that shouldn't be done. If i wasn't aware they were in jest, she could be accused of giving me ideas.

Because what mother would sincerely tell her children to not put rocks in the noses and not to paint the next door neighbour's cat blue?

She was smart enough to grasp reverse psychology

That's a shockingly fair article for Newsweek (the quoted parts, anyway).

Sounds like someone thinks Christians are worse than Nazis.

SJWs absolutely do think that. Their image of a Nazi is an extremist, militaristic Christian with a snappy uniform. So they think devout Christian == Nazi, except that Nazis are part of history and Christians exist today, so Christians are actually more threatening to them.

A weekend on Mackinac Island, leave you a chump for all things endearingly old fashioned.

Like this hit piece from the 1980s. Which posits a world where people are still on the fence about "politically correct," and need to have the term SJW explained to their readers.

It does leave me wondering just how old Newsweek's target market is at this point.

Code? CODE? I'm going to go ahead and call it a jargon acronym for a DIRECT accusation,
But that's just me of course! I go out of my way to type it out Social Justice Warriors, (or "Social Justice" Warriors) in places where there MAY still be some confusion.
I guess "code" sounds "edgy", like projections of Newspeak, disingenuous, so- called "usage""codespeak", or "unrealized micro (hyphen) aggressive racism and misogyny" , and any number of edgy, hip, worldly, vaguely remembered from college (and often miscomprehended) "other-than-English" phrases, or something..

"redeeming Nazis through the power of Christian salvation sounds like a bad idea."

The whole POINT of salvation is that no one is too monstrous to forgive. This book might be badly written, with unsympathetic characters and 50 Shades-esque dialogue. (And I wouldn't bet against all three being true.) But it's not necessarily a bad idea.

But then again, these anti-Christian bigots don't have enough imagination or intelligence to realize that.

Anonymous Sheila August 10, 2015 9:31 AM

They have not left the romance genre alone. As I noted in a prior thread, I read everything except horror, and if it's decently written with sympathetic characters and an interesting plot, I enjoy a good romance now and then as R&R. The last half dozen I've tried (in the last year or so) were so pathetically awful I could not stomach them. All strong wimminz, children of single moms, bravely striding forth to conquer the 19th century man and demonstrate the error of his ways - while needing to be constantly rescued, of course. The other big inroad has been homosexual romance. One writer in particular, who specialized in military romance, now writes nothing but novels about brave gay warriors falling in love in a hateful society. Of course, I'm not up on the very latest - I presume by now a writer has found her niche in writing trans romance novels.

I much prefer Tom Kratman and Sarah Hoyt. There's more genuine "romance" in the Darkship books than any of today's SJW romance novels.

Sheila - I don't read romance novels, because I'm a man, but I do flick through the Kindle storefront a lot.

It seems "BBW PARANORMAL SHAPESHIFTER ROMANCE" is very popular. The covers usually have hunky firemen with their shirts off and the blurb is always some variant on:

Sarah is a curvy girl torn between the love of Brett, the hunky fire chief who is also a werewolf, and the mysterious-yet-equally-hunky Tyler, who is a sexy billionaire minotaur... fur will fly in BEAUTY AND THE BULL

Now, I'm not one to judge - I like books about cannibal space horses fighting nazis - but, man...

Anonymous Anonymous August 10, 2015 10:00 AM

SJW thought-police are upset, because it exposes how women think. After all, isn't this the same story line found in ALL romance novels, just carried to its logical extreme?

1) Good-girl falls for bad-boy.
2) Bad-boy, for some unexplained reason, finds good-girl irresistible.
3) Bad-boy's love for good-girl causes him to turn over a new leaf, and thus the good-girl saves the bad-boy.

This stupid fantasy is played out every day by women.

Friends: he's a thug; he robs people; he has been in prison.
Girl: you don't know him like I do; I know he's a good person inside, and I can bring it out.

This book just carries that fantasy to the extreme, but it is still the exact same fantasy.

Friends: He's a NAZI; he gasses people for a living.
Girl: you don't know him like I do; I know he's a good person inside, and I can bring it out.

50 Shades exposed one side of the female psyche, and this book exposes another. Women don't want good-guys, and they don't just want bad-boys. They are attracted to psychopaths; evil men.

A best seller that exposes that truth is one thing, but giving it an award shines too much light on that truth.

Anonymous @51: "50 Shades exposed one side of the female psyche, and this book exposes another. Women don't want good-guys, and they don't just want bad-boys. They are attracted to psychopaths; evil men."

It's the Dark Triad.

@74 I stumbled on parts of that in college. Did a bit of what is now called "game". Not the most devout time in my life, but it worked.

Anonymous KBT August 10, 2015 1:57 PM

Why did it win, though? That's what has me curious. Is the genre starved for new ideas?

I can write, sort of. Don't take my first draft, dashed off tripe here as an indicator. :) I think a local college has an extension course on writing romance stories and novels. IS there an exophillia subgenre yet? Other than vampires, that is.

I just checked with my 14 yo son -
"You're not following a man named Vox Day on the internet, are you?"
"No!"
"Good. Don't... Ever."
===
"You're not reading anything that might disagree with me or make you think on the internet, are you?"
"No!"
"Good. Don't... Ever."

@25
It is all YOUR fault that I cannot get this "classic song" out of my mind now!

My mommy said not to put beans in my ears!
Beans in my ears! Beans in my ears!
My mommy said not to put beans in my ears!
B-E-A-N-S in my ears!

Now why would I want to put beans in my ears?
Beans in my ears? Beans in my ears?
Now why would I want to put beans in my ears?
B-E-A-N-S in my ears?

You can't hear the teacher with beans in your ears!
Beans in your ears! Beans in your ears!
You can't hear the teacher with beans in your ears!
B-E-A-N-S in your ears!

Hey, Charlie, let's go and put beans in our ears!
Beans in our ears? Beans in our ears!
Hey, Charlie, let's go and put beans in our ears!
B-E-A-N-S in our ears!

WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY? Let's put beans in our ears!
Beans in our ears? Beans in our ears!
WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY? Let's put beans in our ears!
B-E-A-N-S in our ears!

YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP, I'VE GOT BEANS IN MY EARS!
Beans in your ears? Beans in my ears!
YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP, I'VE GOT BEANS IN MY EARS!
B-E-A-N-S in my ears!

Hey, mommy we've gone and put beans in our ears!
Beans in our ears! Beans in our ears!
Hey, mommy we've gone and put beans in our ears!
B-E-A-N-S in our ears!

That's nice, boys, just don't put those beans in your ears!
Beans in your ears! Beans in your ears!
That's nice, boys, just don't put those beans in your ears!
B-E-A-N-S in your ears!

I think that all grownups have beans in their ears!
Beans in their ears! Beans in their ears!
I think that all grownups have beans in their ears!
B-E-A-N-S in their ears!

Sheila, David, you may think you're joking but the wife very seriously wants me to write romance.

Because the SJWs are such GOOD people.

Good at making enemies that is. Is there one that isn't some sort of deviant?

Anonymous Bz August 10, 2015 2:59 PM

Here is how a SJW dies: Molested by her acquaintances.

Until the last week of her life, [Kathy] Acker was still convinced she would survive, and everyone knew not to say otherwise. But by the week of Thanksgiving, her condition rapidly declined. She stopped breathing and was resuscitated, and thereafter could no longer breathe unassisted. She stopped eating solid foods. Her body shrunk even more. In one of her last lucid conversations with Viegener, they talked briefly about her literary legacy. ...

Two days later, the L.A.-based photographer and video artist Connie Samaras, Viegener’s best friend and someone with whom Acker had enjoyed a flirtatious relationship, called him and asked when she should visit. He told her to come down right away ...

While [Viegener] napped, Samaras sat on Acker’s bed, whispering soothingly to her. While Acker could barely speak, Samaras sensed that Acker wanted, needed, some kind of sexual contact. “I just started touching Kathy everywhere,” she says, “on her breast, on her pussy. It was sexual and comforting. I knew she wanted to be touched like that. Kathy was very sensual.” In response, Acker gently kissed the air.

(She dies a couple of hours later, still seemingly befuddled.)

I'd prefer something more dignified myself.

I'm not sure which SJW rule # this should be listed under.

You're not allowed mention Nazi's because they be bad, unless an SJW is calling you a Nazi because you be bad!

"Sheila, David, you may think you're joking but the wife very seriously wants me to write romance."

Mr. Kratman - I think you ought to - make the SJW's heads explode! The way you have your male/female relationships depicted in the "Countdown" series is terrific as it is - sure, the women want babies, but they also understand their husbands are involved in something bigger than themselves and their marriages. That they can handle some physical hardship or discipline hardly makes them unfeminine. Just be sure to market it with a traditional "bodice ripper" cover, and then let the unwary SJWs read it unexpectedly. It would be great fun reading those reviews.

I'm still waiting for the Romance novel where the hot girl chases the fat nerd. I think that would be pretty epic. :p

I wouldn't go crazy and call Newsweek the power of the press. They haven't printed anything but pink slips in years. How does Vox find out about what happens at Newsweek? They're audience is so small now that even the NSA probably doesn't even know or care what they do.

We should erect billboards on every corner with that written on it.

Not only will the SJW's heads melt down even more, but there will be a possibility of saving some of our youth as well: a real "twofer".

Me either, but I do try to have something strong at hand for after clicking on the link.

Just in case.
