A serious Hugo contestant
Hey, if SJWs don't have to read the books to rate them, we don't have to read them to recommend them.
It seems to me that we'll have to give serious consideration to The Cinder Spires: the Aeronaut's Windlass. Very serious consideration.
1 of 106 people found the following review helpfulSo the SJWs don't like Jim Butcher now simply because he won't submit and dutifully pronounce their ritual denunciations. This is one of the many reasons why they will always lose when resisted; they are the most untrustworthy and unreliable allies you could ever hope to have.
1.0 out of 5 stars
I'm just going to rate this a 1/5 on principle...
By Zoe S. Galaitsis on October 6, 2015
I'm just going to rate this a 1/5 on principle, after Jim Butcher got nominated by Vox Day and his Rabid Puppies. Not sure what's going on there but Butcher hasn't come out and said a thing, not even to deny their platform of reviling women, gays, and non-Christians. I'm generally wary of reading anything by him or giving him any money at this point.

Has butcher ever said anything about the Hugos?
I think that Jim Butcher tweeted that he was pleased about being nominated.
I reported the Amazon review as being "inappropriate", since it didn't say anything about the product. I thought that it was appropriate to try to remove an undeserved 1 star rating and to see how Amazon would respond.
Jim Butcher wrote a brillaint book last year and should have a Hugo for his Chicago series. Dave Weber should have one for Honor Harrington. Ringo should have wone for the posverse.
None of these thing will happen. Butcher is on order in Hardback: I now consider a Hugo a sign that the book is unreadable.
And I only review on Amazon books I have FINISHED READING. The non verified reviewer is noise, not signal.
Purchased. Federal Reserve Notes are the best form of approval.
It is a decent book. Cats are to prominent and I like the more stoic second in command better than the brash hero but it shows promise.
I forlornly hope there isn't a whiny chick befuddled protagonist, but it will probably be worth reading anyway.
No there are 5 protagonist so far. A spoiled rich girl learning better, her gene modified berserker cousin, a shy but tough farm girl, a cat and the Brash Noble pirate from the cover.
If Butcher wrote it, I'm going to read it. I'm currently going through the Dresden books, on about book 5.
Don't just downvote the twat; report her for abuse and demand she be barred for life.
I've bought and read the latest book by Jim Butcher. I'll buy the next one, I just hope he makes it longer.
It was good.
At least she spelled "principle" instead of principal, that puts her way ahead of the far left true followers I went to law school with. They need 40 hours to do a brief because it takes their shared secretary that long to clean them up even with grammar check.
Jim Bitcher has yet to fail me with the written word. His novels always having a shit-ton o' strong female characters makes the SJW baffoonery even more...uh...baffoonish.
Hell, he's even featured in that collection of short stories for "strong women".
I read Jim Butcher's "The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut's Windlass". It was very good. 5 out of 5 stars.
There are several view point characters, two of them female. They weren't irritating. He also devotes a couple of chapters to a cat PoV (who are intelligent in this fantasy world). The cat character was actually very enjoyable to read. Butcher definitely has a sense of humor.
The main character is, however, the captain of the HMS Predator. Think Hornblower with a bit of attitude problem.
The enemy Marines I thought were very well done. The commander and sergeant get a couple of PoV chapters. They know they're allied with evil, but they're going to do their duty, come hell or high water.
I could go on but Butcher never disappoints. Action, adventure, heroism, and betrayal. Highly recommended.
I had preordered it a while ago (on Amazon) and read it about a month ago. Totally different (setting, tone, characters) from his Dresden books, but interesting. As others noted, cats are quite prominent, and there are a few female protagonists, but there's no boilerplate strongwomyn involved. Interesting hints about the origins of the world, indicating the people came from elsewhere. I plan to read any subsequent ones because I like Jim Butcher. I had read Dresden book 13? (the one with the denouement in Mexico) based on a review and absolutely loved it, so then read the others in order.
I'm rather lazy about writing Amazon reviews, but will have to do so, particularly to counter SJW propaganda.
It's a solid read. Probably better than "Skin Game," actually. I supported nominating that one last year as more of a nod to Butcher's general career, but although that one was also solid, it wasn't the best Dresden book. "Aeronaut's Windlass" definitely left me wanting to read more about what happens next.
I really like Butcher, but jeez... fourteen bucks?
Have I become the old guy who leaves $0.25 tips?
BTW, why does the name Zoe seem to be always attached to SJW stupidity? I used to like that name.
She forgot "racist."
Butcher has sold at least six million copies. He's not worried about what a bunch of busybodies have to say, he's too busy selling more books.
It would be funny if he has a couple of SJWs murdered by their own "understanding" natures by some creepys in the next Dresden book, though.
I am willing to bet that 80% of Butcher's fan's have never even heard of the Hugo Awards.
I happen to be mid-read into this very book. I would never have heard of him or picked up a Dresden book or this one if it hadn't been for the puppies. The monster genre held no appeal, but reading Larry Correia has... changed me.
About a fourth of the way thru it now.
Graduated from just Ilk to Dread Ilk (at least according to the cartoon) and went and harangued the commenter and reported it to Amazon. It shouldn't be surprising, but to continually see examples of SJWs intentionally shooting at bystanders who haven't declared their undying love for the hallowed Social Justice still gets to me a little bit.
@6 The women did not seem befuddled at all. Or rather the ones who are have reasons (magic eats at your mind). Those with a sheltered upbringing who are going through culture shock are adapting. And the girl who is strong is the most traditionally feminine in mindset, including falling for a stronger man. The one I would complain about is the brash, masculine woman (hot-headed, duelling, blunt with words, etc, but by no means befuddled, in the tradition of her mother).
Vox, you should learn the difference between "the" and "a"
Hey, can I get a nomination? I know they'd just HATE me!! (I already get hate comments from frustrated female English college profs who say I'm a mal-adjusted teenager who knows nothing of women!)
Larry Correia has... changed me.
He turned you into a groot?

The usual SJW play, Point and Shriek
@24
We don't care
I've finished the book, posted a review and reported this review. The book was really good, but I'm always waiting for the next Dresden book.
In a similar vein, I've recently enjoyed Death and Taxes, The Dungeoneers, and Split the Party. Light fun. The last was probably best. Although the middle is funniest.
Dresden is de rigueur of course.
Denouncing the Dresden Files is going to be tough for them to do, considering it is the top tier of urban sci-fi fantasy.
Zoe Snider Galaitsis is such a child! Does she no know she hurts her cause by being petulant? To denigrate an authour based on hearsay is frightening!!!! I must retreat to my safe place and ponder her fallen ways.
@27. Josh:
I am Groot since a seedling on Planet X.
I introduced Mrs. Groot to the Grimnoir. Typical female, focusing on the exterior, she pegs me as a heavy (the bullet-proof part, I guess). I was hurt: "No, a cog!" She face palms, "D'oh! Of course." Decades of marriage, and she still obsesses on the rock-hard aspects. Could be worse, I suppose.
@24 "The women did not seem befuddled at all."
Apologies D.J. Should have written that "Whiny, chick-befuddled protagonist." Chick-befuddled being a second adjective.
English is my second language; the first being redneck.
A BELATED HALLOWEEN TALE...
Mrs Galaitsis is, of course, an ugly SJW. But she's not funny ugly, unlike, say, Alexandra Erin.
I've been horrified and fascinated by Alexandra Erin ever since xe waddled into the Puppy pen as the poster-ladyboy for everything that is pozzed about SFF.
But did you know Alexandra Erin lives with a "polyfamily"? Guess what they look like...
Meet 'Jack' Ralls. This - ahem - guy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) is the 'husband'. Jack works as a fat Jonah Hill impersonator.
And here's Jack's lovely wife No. 1, 'Sarah'
Now try not to imagine the three of them, grunting and wallowing like pigs in a sty.
You're welcome!
Steve, You are an evil bastard.
The world abounds with proof there is someone for everybody. You should keep those everybodies to yourself.
Are those three pics of the same person or does one acre of flesh start to look like any other acre of flesh??
Larry Correia has... changed me.
He turned you into a groot?
He got better...
Here is what she doesn't get: algorithms don't care. With that many downvotes, her reviews no longer carry any weight for recco's. The Amazon review system only looks like a democracy.
I read it. Wan't that impressed with it. Didn't like the cats, the new Vord (silkweavers) are probably going to do to Cinder what they did to Codex. Destroy the plot. But I did like the combat scenes and some of the character development.
But I read it, and reviewed as such. I didn't just poop on the review.
This is a PERFECT example of the demented mindset of the typical SJW cultist. If you don't actively endorse and applaud The Hive loud enough, you're a suspected enemy.
Remember the "Two Minute Hate" described in George Orwell's book "1984"? Those who didn't scream loud and exhibit enough hate were suspected of being potential members of the resistance.
It's not enough that you obey Big Brother. No, you must love Big Brother.
You're not pointing and shrieking loud enough Mr. Butcher.
I highly recommend that you begin to shout and stomp your feet. Otherwise you'll displease us. And you don't want to displease the SJW Hive do you Mr. Butcher? You don't want to attract our attention now do you? We can make life VERY uncomfortable for you Mr. Butcher. We can impact books sales and you would want that to happen, would you? So let me hear you shriek! I want to hear you scream!
JACIII - You have hurt my feelings. I thought this was a safe space for evil bastards? :(
We need a Code of Conduct.
@ Steve
Is she wearing a dog collar in every pic?
Godfrey - We can make life VERY uncomfortable for you Mr. Butcher. We can impact books sales and you would want that to happen, would you?
It must piss them off royally that Jim Butcher has never had to seek their approval.
Look at poor Scalzi, the Uriah Heep of SFF. He's spent over a decade simpering cuckishly and beclowning himself so the Mean Girls at Tor and Gawker would promote his mediocre books.
He's done well out of it, but fuckit - who wants to be a Scalzi? It profits a man nothing to cut off his own nuts for the entire world, but for a few Hugos and a lawn?
Butcher just writes whatever the hell's bells he wants to write, and BAM! - it sells like a Krispy Kreme franchise on Seanan McGuire's block.
Huge word of mouth. Massive global fan base. No need for his publisher to buy a NYT bestseller slot so they can pretend he's a big name author. He's the real thing.
@45 Steve, Spare me your protestations while we are all reaching for the eye bleach.
VP Proposed Code of Conduct:
1) Steve shall post no more pics of amorous fat tubs of goo.
2) Sign Difster's Neighborhood Association Covenant. Vee have vays of making you sign!
Laz - well spotted. Yes, Erin rarely appears without the pooch collar, which makes me wonder:
* where does he get custom-made XXXL dog accessories? That thing looks too big for a Great Dane.
* how come he needs a collar when, by the looks of him, nobody ever takes him out for a walk?
* have his parents committed murder-suicide yet, or did they just change their names and move away without telling anyone?
I'm reluctant to back a code of conduct because I like to think everybody would just naturally respect and show dignity to all members of the human species. So it is with a very heavy heart I throw my full support behind JACII's "VP Proposed Code of Conduct". I'm afraid Stevil has backed us into a corner and has left us with no other options. And JACII nailed it heh.
I continue to click on Steve's links. Makes one wonder about possible brain damage, since the result is foreknown...

Why, what ever do you mean? Our tour guide has always comported himself by the highest standards of gentlemanly behavior. Surely you can't be ascribing some sort of evil motive here? Look, here's another offering demonstrating his benevolent intent in providing us- @36. Steve, the Dark Ninja of Mockery Just click the links he has so graciously provided and you'll see for yourself. And don't blame him if that's the last thing you'll ever see.
Love the Dresden Files but Skin Game wasn't the best of the series and not Hugo material in my eyes. I still liked seeing him on the Hugo nomination list and getting some recognition though.
Stevil is the Pied Piper of Pain.
"Not Hugo Material?" In 2015?
It isn't better than the utter dreck that has won lately? I disagree most strongly.
@VFM I was not comparing Butcher to 'the utter dreck that has won lately' since I haven't read those. I was comparing him to other books in the Dresden Series.
Similar to http://whatever.scalzi.com/2015/11/03/the-end-of-all-things-an-opening-round-nominee-for-the-goodreads-choice-awards/ I honestly enjoy his books, but I wouldn't vote to give him an award for TEOAT. The only other book from that list I have and am currently reading is Nemesis Games by James S.A. Corey but I like that one a lot more so far.
Why think that the SJWs in general think this about Jim Butcher? The screenshot shows that a single person of the hundreds who bothered to rate that review thought it was helpful.
