NFL open thread
Well, starting the Bills defense against Jacksonville looked a lot better on paper than it has in London. This is your weekly NFL open thread.

The London game apparently isn't being broadcast nationally which feels weird. It's the only game on why not air. Feels like England is stealing it from America.
It's being aired on Yahoo. NFL was paid $20M by Yahoo for exclusive rights. Welcome to the future of the NFL
In the "how to extort a new tax-payer funded stadium" news:
Los Angeles (AFP) - The San Diego Chargers plan to file a relocation request to Los Angeles with the NFL in January and expect the Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams will do the same.
Mark Fabiani, the Chargers lead counsel on their bid for a new San Diego stadium and possible move, told radio station XEPRS of the team's plans when the application chance for relocation opens in January.
All three teams are seeking new stadiums in their current market but doing so with an eye toward possible relocation to Los Angeles, a city all three teams have previously called home in their history.
It's being aired on Yahoo.
With Flash. That's like starting a brand-new line of sports cars and giving each one a rebuilt quadrajet carb salvaged from 1978 Buicks.

i think it would be hilarious if all three of these cities passed laws 'nationalizing' these teams as compensation for having built them a stadium in the first place.

hey, HEY, don't be bagging on my Buicks now. an 87 GNX will tear you a new asshole.
and the technical term is 'Quadrajunk'.
Bills' D has been pretty stout. Not so much the O.
Quadrajunk heh...so Flash doesn't get a fuel injection comparison. That's harsh.
Can you really call them stout giving up 34 points? Pick-6 yeah but it's Blake Bortles
hey, HEY, don't be bagging on my Buicks now. an 87 GNX will tear you a new asshole.
No doubt. I always wanted an 87 GNX, and owned a few other models that had the 3800 engine.
I put a quadrajet on the 350cc in my 73 Century. Sounded like an actual jet when you stomped on it.
And the Jags don't know how to step on their opponents throats.
Will Best
350cc? Would that even get a Century rolling? I'm sure you meant 350 cid but you never know with all the europeans on this blog
Duh, you're right, of course, 350 cubic inches. Was thinking of cc's from the 3800.
It didn't get it rolling in a hurry, but once it did.... I used to race my friend in his Duster, which was geared lower in the rear end. He'd jump out in front off the line, then I'd catch up and go past him at about 60.

big ol secondaries. you should open them up on a 455.
73 is a ... pretty harsh year for GM. last year with points ( before HEI ), after the 1971 compression drop and first round of major emissions crap.
the only major thing you didn't have to put up with was a catalytic convertor. which, of course, is why the late 70s sucked so hard, car wise. even the Vette got down to 165hp.

350 Buick. 350 Chevy wasn't available for the Buick until 74.
yes, it makes a difference.
Fine. It's junky like TBI.
yes, it makes a difference.
Yep. The 90-degree V and wider design in the Buick 350 gave it a longer stroke and more torque (no wonder I felt a kinship with it).
And yeah, they really didn't do anything good again until the GNX. I had a couple late 70s/early 80s Buicks that were crap, loaded down with emission-control garbage and all the other bad ideas of the time.

Just watched it. I was expecting Yahoo to fall flat on it's face, but they did OK.
1. Flash unfortunately, but at least it worked pretty well. Some slight jerkiness on the action and some mild pixilation - looked out of focus, not like minecraft.
2. Yahoo lucked out, I was expecting a dull game, it wasn't.
3. Something else Yahoo did right was not trying to ''reinvent the wheel'', it was the CBS coverage. I'm in the Jax 'market' so it was over-the-air as well.
Other than overlaying the Yahoo or NFL logos over the eye they were just about identical.
Yikes, I was expecting the Vikes to roll over the Lions (if they couldn't even beat the Bears...)
wonder if the Pats receivers are on a union slow down today. crazy how many on target balls they're dropping.
at the moment, Brady is 18 of 34 WITH NINE DROPS.
that's nuts.

you know what the difference in stroke between a Buick 455 and 350 is? .050". most people can't tell the difference between the two without labeling.
Great catch by Stefon Diggs! The kid is for real.
> i think it would be hilarious if all three of these cities passed laws 'nationalizing' these teams as compensation for having built them a stadium in the first place.
Don't bother taking the team. Just take the team name. You know the egos these owners have.
@19: at the moment, Brady is 18 of 34 WITH NINE DROPS.
I just watched Belichick's press conference. He said there were lots of things they needed to work on. However, when asked directly about the drops, he defended his players. I feel like this year he's been very protective of them with the press. Good leadership.
I wouldn't want to be in those meetings on Monday, though...it'll be brutal. Ball control issues are a quick way onto Belichick's naughty list.
I never like to see the Redskins win, but that was a hell of a comeback.
"Ball control issues are a quick way onto Belichick's naughty list."
Unless it's your own QB 'controlling' the ball.
The Pats have lots of talent. Bellycheat doesn't have to cut corners to win.
The whole 'legal system' dodge by Brady was just pathetic. Oh look! the court says that cheaters aren't cheaters. Cause he's a Big Football He-row!
Tannehill thinks he's Marino. Next Thurs. ought to bring the fish back down to earth.
Jets played well today, but there was no chance they would hold NE to 20 points. In other words, they couldn't win today.
I'm starting to sound like a broken record. It's very, very hard being a Cowboys fan sometimes.
Skol. Don't make the Vikings angry. Matt Stafford doesn't like you when you make the Vikings angry. I will be very annoyed if the Vikings lose the Wild Card race because of that horrible opening game at SF.
Brag time! I'm 9-1 so far today with only the Eagles +3 left. I don't bet big, and by that, I mean that you should think about what "don't bet big" means and then lower your expectations by an order of magnitude even further. My largest bet was $7 on KC -2.5. All in all, I'm up 30 bucks! Paid for lunches for my kid and I at IndieCade.
I was 10-6 for NCAA CFB, but overall lost $6. The ones I was SURE about I bet $20 on. Lost 2 of 3 on those. Fricking Utah, amirite?
@29. eharmonica
Fine, if you can do it I can too. lol. I don't bet sports, but I do play poker. Went to a friend's cash game last night and bought in for $20. I then noticed that everyone else bought in for $80. I commented on it too, but decided not to buy in another $20 because several of the guys said, "yeah, buy in", with this hungry look in their eyes. Got down to $7 and went all-in pre-flop on a wing and a prayer with A,3 off suit. I won that with A high and it was like a dam broke and all the money on the table started coming my way. By 3am, when the power went out, I had $310. Treated myself to a 20oz rib eye today

Tannehill thinks he's Marino.
But he's not

sheesh, have you forgotten the Cleveland / Baltimore thing already? losing the name AND historical records didn't slow down Modell in the slightest.
i really don't think it would have slowed Irsay down either.
oh, wow, i don't think i even knew that Baltimore was going to eminent domain the Colts ... i'm not the first one with this idea:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapolis_Colts#Relocation_to_Indianapolis
"Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the situation worsened and the Maryland General Assembly intervened and began to pass a law giving the city of Baltimore the right to seize ownership of the team by eminent domain."
> sheesh, have you forgotten the Cleveland / Baltimore thing already? losing the name AND historical records didn't slow down Modell in the slightest.
I believe the league dictated the terms after he had already decided to move.
> i really don't think it would have slowed Irsay down either.
Probably not, but it's not something he would ever have forgotten either, and it may have made the other owners think twice.
One of the stipulations on new stadiums paid for with tax dollars should be that if the team moves within the next 50 years they're liable for the entire cost of the stadium plus a hefty interest payment.
Tannehill had, forgive me if I'm wrong, 25 completions in a row. An NFL record. Not a guy to build a team around, but not a JAG.
For those of you who are still awake. If you enjoy power running football you should be watching the Eagles/Panthers.
@LAZ
nice! Usually, I'm 6-5, 5-6 on my games. I bet for fun. It was just a really crazy result this week.
My one SURE bet was Utah beating USC. Eeesh. I'm a Bruin and I never bet on UCLA or USC, unless I am sure. My heart gets in the way. But I studied this game, and I was SURE that Utah would win outright. Still, I took the points. In this case, the Sirens called to me.... And I crashed upon the rocks. -$22, Ugh.
@eharmonica
You weren't the only one who thought Utah was gonna win. I thought Univ. of Tenn was going to win too.
It's sweet waking up seeing a tweet that says 'Congrats on those who started Tannehill' when it was either him or Jameis Winston to go for. Lost first 5 now I come back and beat the Americans and make America great again.
I put that fool on waivers, Jamie. Darn it.
Great catch by Stefon Diggs! The kid is for real.
I stole him when no one was looking deep in the FA WRs.
