Caught red-handed

This is yet another reason why we need a new Wikipedia:
A crew member from "The Hunting Ground," a one-sided film about campus sexual assault, has been editing Wikipedia articles to make facts conform with the inaccurate representations in the film.

Edward Patrick Alva, who is listed on the film's IMDB page as part of the camera and electrical department, has been altering Wikipedia entries for months, in violation of the website's conflict-of-interest guidelines. Alva is the assistant editor and technical supervisor for Chain Camera Pictures, the production company associated with "The Hunting Ground" director Kirby Dick.

Wikipedia guidelines state: "Do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests or in the interests of your external relationships." As a member of the film's production team, Alva should not have been editing pages about the film or related to the film.
I'm only surprised that it wasn't a Wikipedia admin. They are the real problem. But it does demonstrate the Left's backward thinking. Rather than observing reality and acting on that basis, they act on the basis of their ideology and then attempt to modify reality accordingly.

This is why they reliably fail.

But maybe if he white knights obsequiously enough, M'ladies will have sex with him?

Blogger Lukas Brunnor November 20, 2015 9:20 AM

How did this film get caught in the controversy Normally the COI rule only applies if your "interests" include those not aligned with the left.

Is Wikipedia feeling some pressure? Revenues must be down.

They are remarkably similar to ISIS. Read with great sadness a couple of months ago about their destruction of the ruins in Palmyra. Apparently, they destroyed them because they were temples dedicated to some long dead religion and it conflicted with their beliefs. Like destroying it makes your beliefs more valid.

You're on pretty shaky ground if you threatened by things like reality, history, and facts....

Anonymous mark in orlando November 20, 2015 9:32 AM

so the director of a movie about the "epidemic" of campus rape is named Dick, truth is funnier than fiction!

@1 - Constantly with the "fedora". It's like a yamulka for atheist twits.

OpenID crash November 20, 2015 9:51 AM

Anything even slightly controversial is usually slanted on Wikipedia.

Here's one I noticed recently, the page on the 1986 tax reform act

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_Reform_Act_of_1986

Vs

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040--1986.pdf

The Wikipedia is grinding an axe about tax brackets when the effective tax rate actually fell, the number of people not filing tax forms rose.

OpenID crash November 20, 2015 9:54 AM

Copied the wrong link there https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040--1987.pdf

Seems to me like wikipedia is working as intended. Someone edited wikipedia and was caught. The question, was this because or despite wikipedia or a wiki admin?

I assume you do not consider conservapadia or other existing sites a valid alternative since you talk about the need for a new replacement?

@10 your link also covered the gay boy Barbie ad positively. Even gay patriot listed it as bad. Trigger warning you might want moslems to attack DC after watching.

Perhaps, there is indeed a rape culture in the West.

I have to say I am amazed that anyone pays any attention to WikidPedia or uses it as a reference for any argument or scholarly research. I use it very occasionally but only for the most mundane, noncontroversial lookups, like how far the earth is from the sun or how to calculate the volume of a sphere. It is useless for anything with the slightest bit of controversy around it

Blogger rcocean November 20, 2015 11:28 AM

Well, the Bolsheviks did that all the time. Orwell's hero in 1984 was in charge of rewriting history.

And you never know what will be controversial to an SJW. Would you look up the history of Linux on there and expect to find accurate info? I might have done so a year ago; but now that SJWs have targeted Torvalds, who knows how they might be trying to rewrite its history to push him out of it and overemphasize certain people.

There's very little about reality that SJWs don't think needs rewriting.

Funny story I wore some of my anti illegal alien and anti moslem t shirts since the Paris attack, with puffs telling me you can't wear white after labor day.

"Hence the quotation marks. But thanks for the link, I could not remember the difference."

For a guy his age, the difference is Indiana Jones wore a fedora. If you wear a fedora and the girls think Short Round rather than Indy they are going to eat you alive.

Better to go for the hipster look. He won't get all the girls but at least the girls he won't get won't (usually) mock the girls he does get for having such low standards.

Blogger Mindstorm November 20, 2015 12:18 PM

As long as that the extensive backup system is in place, such attempts will be caught and reverted.

@26 - Yeah, my generation is just pathetic sometimes. And the fan obsession with Dr. Who ("bowties are cooool") makes me wince. That's not a hat; it's a stocking cap with a poor excuse for a brim. You look like an idiot.

But it really does serve the same purpose as an agnostic Jew wearing a yamulka: all the tribal signaling without the responsibilities.

Blogger Desiderius November 20, 2015 12:37 PM

Interesting comment at Sailer's:

"'You might actually be seeing the increasing overlap of nerd and activist culture. I’ve noticed it a few years ago, and it annoys the heck out of me–I keep seeing annoying Facebook SJW crap from previously apolitical computer programmer guys I knew in high school. Not sure if it’s the general geeking of America or something more interesting.'

Average whites despise blacks. Smart whites – or rather 'smart” whites' – despise 'average' whites, who are often just whites, like those who are parents, who have less free time to spend on 'intellectual' pursuits. Blacks aren’t even on the nerd radar, since nerds almost never deal with them in any meaningful way."

Same with nerds and women.

They were started by men who couldn't reliably put on a normal tie.

I keep seeing annoying Facebook SJW crap from previously apolitical computer programmer guys I knew in high school. Not sure if it’s the general geeking of America or something more interesting.

These apolitical computer programmer guys tend to want to keep their jobs, and nowadays that tends to require toeing the SJW party line. There's also Airport's Law.

Blogger Danby November 20, 2015 1:27 PM

A bowtie is worn with a tuxedo. and it should be subtle, preferably a solid color, or if one absolutely insists, tone-on-tone. The gaudy things these guys wear should only be found on clowns and montebanks.
A necktie should be worn with a suit, although, young impoverished men sometimes will wear a necktie to give the impression they were wearing a suit, but their activities have made it too warm, simulating both more wealth and more ambition than they can actually claim.
A suit without a necktie is sometimes worn by men who are trying to present a dishonest impression of youth. Sadly, they achieve only an honest impression of drunkenness.
A cummerbund should only be worn by ambassadors.

A fedora was originally a woman's hat, named for a Russian character (Fyodora) in a french play, who wore one. It is a soft wool-felt block-molded hat with a pinched, semi-cylindrical crown and a 2-3 inch brim. Because of their ability to come back well from sever abuse, lack of need for regular blocking or brushing, and excellent protection from the sun, they are the hat of choice for men who work outdoors, such as surveyors, geologists, and explorers.
A trilby is a constructed hat, usually of canvas or other durable fabric, with a built-in pinch to the crown and a very narrow brim. it is at once useless for protection from the elements, and completely unattractive on a man. It is the hat of choice for people who don't know why they want a hat, but believe that the absence of God is telling them they do.

Blogger S1AL November 20, 2015 1:32 PM

Danby, saving that for future use.

That's because nerds love it when females pay attention to them.

Anonymous Gen. Kong November 20, 2015 11:39 PM

Of course WP needs a better alternative. Part of the problem over and above the usual SJW entryism lies with the issue that much of the physical infrastructure of the web itself is effectively under SJW or Cuck (same thing, really) control.

And I'd love a conservative tech site. I quit Engadget after seeing here they interviewed Sc*lz*. Gave up on the Gawker tech sites because of Gamergate.
