SJW "rights" are anti-rights

The city of Houston rejects a politically correct "anti-bias" measure:
A yearlong battle over gay and transgender rights that turned into a costly, ugly war of words between this city’s lesbian mayor and social conservatives ended Tuesday as voters repealed an anti-discrimination ordinance that had attracted attention from the White House, sports figures and Hollywood celebrities.

The City Council passed the measure in May, but it was in limbo after opponents succeeded, following a lengthy court fight, in putting the matter to a referendum.

Supporters said the ordinance was similar to those approved in 200 other cities and prohibited bias in housing, employment, city contracting and business services for 15 protected classes, including race, age, sexual orientation and gender identity. Opponents said the measure would allow men claiming to be women to enter women’s bathrooms and inflict harm, and that simple message — “No Men in Women’s Bathrooms” — was plastered on signs and emphasized in television and radio ads, turning the debate from one about equal rights to one about protecting women and girls from sexual predators.
The cat is out of the bag. Voters now understand that these seemingly innocuous ordinances will be used against them by the sexual freakshows and political activists. What are called "anti-discrimination" measures are violations of the Constitutional right to free association. The entire concept of "civil rights" has proven to be a complete disaster; the worst predictions of the segregationists proved to be optimistic.

Not that the SJWs are giving up any time soon. Notice something very strange about this "news" report. Where are the results of the referendum? It's like a sports report on the World Series that says the Mets lost, but doesn't tell you what the score was.

From this, we can surmise that the SJWs lost badly.  And yes, as it happens, that's precisely what happened as the SJW measure was voted down 61-39.

Houston's controversial equal rights ordinance failed by a wide margin Tuesday, with voters opting to repeal the law that offered broad non-discrimination protections, according to incomplete and unofficial returns.

Ms. Parker and her supporters said Houston would lose tourism and convention business if the city had to repeal the ordinance [...] Supporters worried that a repeal of the Houston ordinance could also jeopardize its selection as host city for the Super Bowl in 2017.

Quite.

Who'd want to watch an American football match in a city where Dr. Frank N Furter can't smuggle his junk into a womens' toilet?

From what I understand, Houston is something of a hotbed of liberalism in the traditional sense of the word: they have no zoning laws, so stuff gets built wherever it's workable rather than where some city council member decides to allow it. So you've got auto-body shops mixed into residential neighborhoods and the like.
.
I saw some of that when I was in Germany (I spent most of a month in a little village in Bavaria); I actually think living in one of those tiny neighborhoods would have been nice if it meant that there was literally a bakery right across the street.

I live in the greater Houston area, but not in the city itself, so was not able to vote on this issue, but I followed it, since my family does go to Houston regularly. Watching the news last night, I heard the political commentators assure the viewers that while the HERO ordinance was defeated, it will be back. They will just remove the little portion about bathrooms, but expect to pass something that is almost exactly like the one already defeated.

So this is a victory, but it ain't over. Not by a long shot.

I dont think they won anything. Title IX of the civil rights act was declared by the the Federal Government to allow boys who identify as "girls" to not only use the girls showers but to be naked in the same area together as seperating the person identifying as female from biological females is a civil rights violation.

As a brown man I fear that this over sensitive PC SJW Feminist nonsense will cause a wholly dispraportional backlash in the other direction. And honestly I believe its the same SJW lemmings and AGW truthers who will be the worst offenders. They've already displayed their bigotry serving the Multiculti agenda and when they switch sides which is inevitable given the damage their doing to Western culture and nations, they'll do the horrific sh*t that the next gen of libtards will blame Christianity and Western Civilization for perpetrating.

P.s The reason I say they'll switch sides is because like all fools they assume themselves immune to consequences. When they are truly affected by the mass immigration and wholesale Islamization of the West they'll quickly strap on the jackboots.

Has anyone here ever noticed how easy some Progressive policies are to beat?

Apparently O'Malley has outlined a bunch of gun control policies he intends to enact by executive order if he's elected President.

And the first one is to use procurement contract rules to force gun manufacturers to add "safety" features that O'Malley prefers, like "magazine disconnectors" and "microstamping".

The latter, of course, is what I wanted to mention.

Microstamping is the idea that you can put a tiny stamp on the hammer of a firearm, so that when it strikes the primer cap it will leave an imprint of its serial number in the metal, so that spent casings found a crime scene can be linked to a particular firearm.

The idea is ludicrous, and most of the reasons why are obvious: what could be hard about very lightly scraping the tip of the firing pin with a diamond file? Files are cheap. Defacing the tip even a little bit would likely render the stamp illegible, and firing pins are designed to be removable.

But it's worse than that. A would-be criminal could just stop by a shooting range and grab a handful of spent casings out of one of their buckets. Then he could leave a bunch at the crime scene, and take his own with him. Then the police will waste time tracking down dozens of unrelated people.

Or, he could just use an older gun, one without the microstamp. Or a knife.

But it's still worse. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that everything goes according to his plan, and forever more criminals use only microstamped guns, don't salt crime scenes with false evidence, and don't deface the firing pins. What could they do to escape detection?

Answer: use a revolver.

No ejector means no spent casings at the crime scene, and since you have to manually eject them in order to reload, your chances of missing an empty case are minimal.

Worse, since the only moving part that touches the bullet is the hammer, all you would have to do is remove the spent primer caps. Use a thin steel rod, and push the caps out. Boxer primers are designed to be removable for use in reloading, and American ammunition manufacturers (including military ones) make Boxer-primed ammunition almost exclusively. But even Berdan primers can be removed; you just can't reload the casing easily. You don't even need the rod; just a piece of dowel, some water, and a rubber mallet. It'd be a little time consuming, but it would be a $5 way of defeating O'Malley's multi-billion dollar idea.

I would also mention two more things related to this issue in Houston.

1. This is the same mayor and city government that tried to force local pastors to submit their sermons to the city officials to make sure that nothing "offensive" was being spoken from the pulpit. That did not fly, either. The backlash was strong.

2. The lead candidate to replace the outgoing mayor (who is term-limited) was accused of an insurance scam a few years ago. In addition, in 2013 the LGTB groups hated him, but he "evolved" and earned an A+ from this in this last year (he is currently a state representative). That should work out well.

"The idea is ludicrous, and most of the reasons why are obvious..."

From the left's perspective, it isn't ludicrous at all. It's a foot in the door. Microstamping is a fragile technology. When it fails to work as advertised, the left has several new routes of attack:
1) Blame crime on "obsolete" weapons that aren't equipped with the technology. These, of course, must now be banned.
2) Require annual inspections to ensure that microstamping systems on firearms remain functional. To ensure that gun owners comply with the inspection requirement, registration is necessary.
3) When a gun manufacturer's microstamping technology inevitably fails, stop them from selling more guns until they present an "acceptable" design for microstamping technology.

Point being, if you think what the left has done is ludicrous, then you're being fooled. It isn't ludicrous at all, it's an insidious attack on our freedom.

The slippery slope is real. We've been sliding down it for the last 200 years.

Blogger White Knight Leo #0368 November 04, 2015 11:16 AM

@56

Again, it's ridiculous because it can't be made to work, even if they do all of those things, because the basic design of a revolver defeats the whole purpose of the idea. Single-shot and revolving pistols outnumber semi-automatic handguns, and unless they not only ban old guns but the entire revolver design, period, the microstamps won't have any effect on crime.

Yes, they could do all those things. And it wouldn't be the first time that they banned old technology. But there's no way to make this one invincible without banning revolvers outright, and then they are getting into 'anti-hunting' territory.

It isn't ludicrous at all, it's an insidious attack on our freedom.

Oh, it's absolutely an insidious attack on our freedom. The simple fact that it's so easily beaten proves that it can't possibly serve a law-enforcement function. But it's still ludicrous. They could at least spare the time to come up with something that isn't so easily beaten.

Oh, and all of the stamp designs tested to date have started to lose legibility around Shot #100 or so. So they'd have to mandate monthly inspections. And they'd drive the cost of new firing pins through the roof. But again, even then it would still be easily beaten: have two firing pins, one registered to you and the other a blank one. Swap them out at inspection time.

What are they going to do next, piss off every military and police armorer in the country by mandating nonadjustable firing pins for all firearms?

Blogger White Knight Leo #0368 November 04, 2015 11:21 AM

@56

Oh, and here's the worst part: no one has invented a machine that can put stamps on firing pins yet. The ones that have been tested were all individually crafted. So they would literally have to mandate the halt of all firearm sales, nationwide, until such a machine could be invented. They can't even mandate that firearm manufacturers use the technology, because it doesn't exist.

Talk about crazy land. I was going to say "Yeah, like that's going to happen", but the EPA tried to fine some industrial companies for not using an additive that wasn't actually being produced anywhere, so it wouldn't be the first time they did something that insane.

Blogger White Knight Leo #0368 November 04, 2015 11:25 AM

And even if they pulled it off, black-powder firearms don't have casings. They would literally have to ban muskets.

I actually think living in one of those tiny neighborhoods would have been nice if it meant that there was literally a bakery right

Things that work in a 95%+ white neighborhood don't in a 37% latino 25% black place.

Where are the cries of "No Women in Men's Bathrooms" ??!

A security guard will stand outside the door when women use men's rooms at healthcare conferences.

These saucy little mincers don't know how fragile and unpopular they really are

Combo of echo chamber + ignore+ shadow censoring = they don't know who attacks them more than STR8 YT Church Going Men

This city is a majority-minority city, so the fact that [the opposition] has somehow managed to get people to vote against our own rights

Both minorities known for wife beating.

The only 'smart' gun in production right now is a .22. And it has a 10% 'failure to fire' rate. With a 10-round magazine.

So every magazine is guaranteed to have one FTF. And it's a .22 because the computer is so fragile that they can't make one that can survive the recoil of a .380 yet.

RE: Houston. I liked the way that Lt. Gov. Patrick went on the offensive when the reporter brought up the concept of Houston losing a Super Bowl over the referendum.

Mr. Patrick minced no words about the threat of losing the Super Bowl. If Roger Goodell, the N.F.L. commissioner, “would even suggest that the Super Bowl not be played here because we don’t want men in ladies’ bathrooms, then we need a new commissioner,” Mr. Patrick said.

That article about political correctness and SJW you linked to was from the NRO written by David French. Talk about being unable to see yourself--Mr. No introspection David French is himself a SJW or a Cuckservative, pretty much the same thing. I stopped reading French even before I stopped reading NRO.

"Already been in the Texas Supreme Court twice and twice Annise "Porker'

Not exactly. At least one of those cases was concerned with the City's refusal to put the ordinance on a ballot, as required by law after citizens gathered sufficient signatures on a petition. The Texas Surpreme Court ordered the City to either repeal the ordinance or put it on the ballot.

Also the issue of the preachers sermons was as follows: after citizens gathered and presented a sufficient number of signatures to force a vote on the ordinance the City responded just as one would expect of SoJuNazis, they ignored the petitions and ignored the law. The petition gatherers, many of whom were organized by Christian preachers, filed suit against the city. The city responded, again as one would expect; with an extraordinary demand for notes, sermons, diary entries and so forth on anything to do with the ordinance or the Mayor held by a group of preachers. The press the City received from this attack on Christian preachers privacy was national and negative.

Ain't that Amerika, Demoncraps and Republicants. Feminism and PC ruling the nation? No problem. Outright destruction of fatherhood, sonship, and family? All good, just shut up about it you troublemaker. Torturing and murdering babies in the womb? Just smart business, and after all, it's A Woman's Choice, isn't it? I mean, you're not against a Woman Making Choices, are you? Because we've got guns and cages for people like that. . . .

OT, but related to topics of interest to the Ilk:

Twitter Engineering Manager Leslie Miley Leaves Company Because Of Diversity Issues

Though Miley was laid off as part of Twitter's cuts in October, he says he had already told Twitter that he had planned on leaving at the end of October. He also passed on the severance package so that he could speak openly about his experience at Twitter. So, it seems as if Twitter was hoping to silence Miley by bundling him into the company's layoffs.

A particular low moment for Miley, he wrote, happened when he asked a question at Twitter's engineering leadership meeting about what specific steps Twitter engineering was taking to increase diversity. Twitter's senior VP of Engineering responded, "diversity is important, but we won't lower the bar."

"In the spirit of fairness and this proposed ordinance, all men should insist on their right to use the women's bathroom, and do so in droves"

That's perversion. Sexual Predators List. Gooona get muh shotgun!

Females in male bathrooms/lockers/spaces? That's not perversion. That's A Woman's Right to Choose. That's basic fairness and equity.

I recall when female 'reporters' first demanded access to male locker rooms, because . . . Equality and Civil Rights. My princess has every right to intrude on male spaces, to invade male privacy, because I Said So uh I mean Equality. But if any other Evil Male even THINKS about entering the women's areas, gooona get muh shotgun. 'Cause I'm a Brave Protector Man!

What a nation of hypocrites and punk cowards. The males are even suckier than the females, if such a thing were possible.

"A majority-minority city?" Apparently our dear friend is unaware of just how very unpopular "gays" and "transgenders" are in American black and Hispanic culture. In the hood, or the barrio, being openly gay is like having a sign around your neck saying "Treat me like shit! Make my life miserable!" And I don't even want to think of what they'd likely do to some idiot who decided that they were the opposite sex...

Blogger Cail Corishev November 04, 2015 2:04 PM

Just because Americans love to watch a freak show doesn't mean they want to participate in one.

Great way to put it. What people find titillating or cool when it's being done by beautiful people on TV isn't necessary something they want to experience in the McDonald's restroom.

I think one part of the shift is that people used to think this stuff was kind of random and scattered. You'd hear of a dodgy rape case over here, and some guy losing his job over a joke over there, and some church starting to marry gays somewhere else. I think most normal people thought, "Well, yeah, but there will always be some freaks and malcontents. It's probably no worse than it always was. If I leave them alone, they'll probably leave me alone."

Now people are starting to realize that those haven't been isolated events; they're part of a larger pattern that's far more common than they realized, and a lot harder simply to avoid.

Wow, what a smart politician she is:

"Hey, why don't I insult 2/3rd of Houston voters who decided they didn't want your LGBT Trojan Horse of a proposition mucking up their lives? That'll help sell myself AND my gay/transgendered advocacy!"

I know Parker's on her way out and probably feels free to let fly with how she really feels, but this seems like a monumentally stupid and short-sighted move on her part.

By the by, as a Houston exurb resident myself, this victory is sweet. A lot of conservative advocacy groups did yeoman's work to educate the public and defeat this proposition. As others have noted, it was originally set to be enacted without any vote at all. It was only after concerned pastors and these conservative groups forced the hand of the city council in the Texas Supreme Court that it was even allowed to be put to the vote.

While I'm happy with the outcome, it frightens me just how much effort was required to get to this point. Pastors and watchdog groups had to learn what the council was up to (not as easy as it sounds), raise awareness of the issue, go online and house-to-house petitioning, spend God knows how many hours arguing in courtrooms, and finally organize for the vote (volunteers, placards, TV spots, billboards, etc.). All just to prevent one terrible law to go into effect.

And the progs are still saying this isn't the end.

Blogger JaimeInTexas November 04, 2015 2:35 PM

The other case dealt with the ballot language. Parker wanted the language such that if the vote was FOR, it was a vote against the adoption the ordinance and a vote of AGAINST was a vote in favor of adopting the ordinance. The court ruled that that was deceptive. The language had to be changed.

I love how its just a bump in the road when they lose... but when they win the matter is completely settled and over.

Well look, they're just gonna have to keep voting until they get it right.

It was quite difficult to make the first wheel, too. Then it got easier, not just because the technique was figured out but also because the men who imitated the first inventor already knew that it could be done. All wheel makers ever since have had this complete confidence about them.

No, it does not. It's just the same cowardly, fake chivalry that established and maintains the current gynarchy.

Tough, kick-ass, shotgun-totin' American men have been A-OK with feminism ruling over every aspect of our lives, including essentially the entire government . . . but the only motivation able to budge them is the vision of Some Other Guy getting a look at their precious skank in the toilet?

All kinds of sickness in this country, elites drugging little boys and girls and raping them, Hollywood putting out all kinds of anti-Christian crap, bakers being forced to bake gay wedding cakes, public schools discordantly encouraging girls to be sluts while tut-tutting slutty behavior, heavy immigration of turd-worlders, ...

... and what gets good ol' boys moving is the thought of some guy eye-raping their daughters! Priorities, America!

Acknowleging the hand holding and babysitting required is just seeing what is there. It is why parties and special interest groups exist. If the group is ad hoc, how much work is required depends on the issue and who spearheads the effort. You want to be slave to the system, knock yourself out. I have been involved and determined it as futile. I saw first hand the shenanigans against Ron Paul within the GOP. No, I was not a newcomer. I had been involved with the GOP for some years.
