Week 10

This is your weekly NFL Open thread. Big game in the NFC North today. Skol Vikings!

UPDATE: All Day does it again! 30-14 over the Vikings West (seriously, Del Rio, Tice, and Musgrave?), and AD ties OJ's record for the most 200-yard games with six.

Today should also definitively settle the Manning-Brady question. Brady is better. Great finish in New York.

I would say "Go Pack Go" but right now they are headed in the wrong direction.

Finally a Raiders team over which I don't have to hang my head in shame!

Blogger TontoBubbaGoldstein November 15, 2015 2:37 PM

Just win, baby!

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 2:50 PM

@3 fish:
Sort of. I've got good news and bad news Vox.
The good news is the [current location of] Raiders D absolutely sucks. They set a team record last week - but not a good one. 579 yrds allowed. Santa came early All Day!
Now the bad news, their offense is nothing to be ashamed of: 8th ranked, 8th passing.
The Vikes offense is 6th rushing, the rest... uh, let's not talk about that. Two words - draw play.

Prolly another painful week in NY.

5. YIH

I didn't say they were good...I didn't say they would win....I implied that this year they haven't been at quite the same level of embarrassment that they've been for the past decade! it......sow the ground with salt! When it cools! Repeat!

Blogger So Meh November 15, 2015 3:11 PM

The Bears need to play the Rams every week (at least through the 1st half)

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 3:31 PM

Two surprises so far: The Pack are losing to the Lions - more good news for the Vikes. Chorus line football - 1,2,3,kick! zzzzzzzzzzz.
Dallas @ Tampa is also a snoozer (isn't 6-3 a calcio score? Red card - NFL). At least the weather's nice, clear and 80f (overcast and 76 if you really wanted to know).
Good news for Nate, you'd expect the Panthers to be crushing the Titans like a bug, 4th just began, the Titans are still in it 17-10.
Prediction: The NFL is going to ban costumes within 30m/100ft of the stadium or parking areas. Sorry fish.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 3:50 PM

@7 fish:
Not disagreeing with you, I'd say the ???? Raiders really are the most improved team this year. The Lions OTOH...
There actually is hope for the future... Wherever that happens to be. It would be nice if they at least stay in the bay area (The NFL would like that too) but I like the constant rumors that the ???? Raiders will move - because funny.

OpenID Jack Amok November 15, 2015 4:22 PM

Arthur Moats apparently heard Johnny Manziel's head wasn't screwed on straight and tried to fix it for him.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 5:03 PM

Props to the Lions, they won in ''the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field''.
If they can beat the [London]? Raiders (Why not? That's better than the LA Raiders/LA Chargers in the same stadium, and it gives them a special time slot all their own) and worldwide coverage - as even Yahoo! proved is viable.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 5:57 PM

I said to my roomates, ''yes, this game is very important''. I have a roomate that isa big Patriot fan. I do want the Patriots to beat the Giants and claim the perfect season.

Blogger JDC November 15, 2015 6:06 PM

My beloved Lions. Despite your every attempt to lose, you managed to pull it out. Thank goodness for kickers who choke.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 6:12 PM

It is nice to see my actual last name on an NFL jersey. It's pretty rare. Lost the chance to show you that.
BTW Good for Payton Manning, he got another NFL record.

Blogger ScuzzaMan November 15, 2015 6:26 PM

Just try being a Manchester United fan in the post-Ferguson era.

Er, watch.

Blogger Eric Hanson November 15, 2015 7:00 PM

are the 49ers still allowed to play in the NFL? just wonderin...

Anonymous G.Veil November 15, 2015 7:02 PM

Peyton Manning benched for Brock Osweiler, seems to be a coaching decision, can't say that having 5 completions vs 4 INT made for a compelling case to stay in the game

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 7:14 PM

WOW JUST WOW! 11:33 4th q, tied at (just changed 24-23). Yes, I do want the Patriots to win this.
It is there last chance.
I do want to see an NFL team become a legend. This is the Patriots last chance.

Blogger Lukas Brunnor November 15, 2015 7:27 PM

Broncos absolutely falling apart at home. Almost feel bad for them and their fans. Almost.

Blogger ray November 15, 2015 7:35 PM

18 -- Peyton was distracted, prepping for more Late Night Commercial gigs -- hawking Ginsu Knives and Magical Mixers to konsumer amerika. Is there anything this toad doesn't sell?

Pay-ton would have been more appropriate.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 7:37 PM

Broncos bench Peyton Manning.
They waited until the very end of the (losing SB) season to bench him. He's done.

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 8:06 PM

They got past the most difficult test.
Now they have to make it to and win the SB50.

Blogger Dave November 15, 2015 8:11 PM

Gotta tip my hat to the Vikes. Everyone handed that division to the Pack but they kept their heads down and just went about their business. All of this without a passing attack too; what are they averaging one TD pass a game?

And c'mon NFL you overturn that Giants TD catch? Are you deliberately making a mockery of the game now?

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 8:19 PM

Now they can 'run the table'. I want them to. I hope they don't have to face the Vikings in the SB.
Yes, now that they made it past the Giants, anything other than 19-0 is unacceptable.
This is their last chance.

Anonymous G.Veil November 15, 2015 8:31 PM

As the rules are presently written the refs absolutely got that call right Dave, he didn't clearly establish himself with both feet in bounds before having the ball knocked out of his hands. There is a lot of uncertainty about catching the football but that one seemed pretty clean cut on replay.

Blogger Patrikbc November 15, 2015 8:42 PM

And the Giants give it away at the last minute again.... Wtf

Blogger YIH November 15, 2015 8:50 PM

BTW, Nate what about Ha Ha Clinton Dix?
He at least made an NFL roster - in spite of his name.
He's not going to make it to the SB, in fact after today it's possible his team won't even win it's division.
It'll be tough, but it is possible as a division winner the Vikes can make the playoffs.

Blogger Dave November 15, 2015 9:05 PM

No they clearly got that one wrong G. That's been a catch for 99.999% of the history of the NFL and the fact they overturned the call is more evidence the refs dont know what to call anymore. And I'm no Giant fan in fact I wanted them to lose today.

Blogger Cail Corishev November 15, 2015 9:20 PM

There is a lot of uncertainty about catching the football but that one seemed pretty clean cut on replay.

One problem they're running into with replay is that they can see a lot of stuff with the new technology that they just couldn't see before. Anyone who's ever tossed a football around knows that catching it isn't a cut-and-dried thing where it hits your hands and you take firm control of it and that's that. There's often some shifting around or bobbling as you bring the ball under control and bring it down to tuck it away so you can run, especially if you're reaching out with one hand or catching it at an awkward angle. Most of those would have been called catches in the past, but now they're not so much, because they can see "Uh oh, the ball was moving between his arm and his body, he didn't have control yet."

If they keep using replay (and they're kinda stuck with it because the fans in the stadium and at home can see it), I think they're going to have to change the rules to deal with that, because the letter of the rules is getting distorted away from the spirit. I haven't figured out how, though.

Blogger Guitar Man November 15, 2015 9:23 PM

Edelman broken foot. Dang.

OpenID Jack Amok November 16, 2015 12:51 AM

I think officiating may have hit an all-time low with the Sunday night game. They were so bad, they didn't even know when they were reviewing a play. Just a complete joke. Blandino is the only person employed by professional football who deserves to be fired more than Derrell Bevell.

Blogger Desiderius November 16, 2015 1:00 AM

"Vikings West"

And Vikes are Bengals North. Newman with two picks. Go Zim!

Blogger Desiderius November 16, 2015 1:01 AM

"he didn't have control yet"

Control is a lousy criteria.

Blogger Daniel November 16, 2015 2:20 AM

Was not expecting the Vikings to wipe out Oakland like that. AD more than made up for his season-starting West Coast performance. The Vikings always seem to benefit when they have a supernatural anomaly on the roster. Funny that.

Blogger Daniel November 16, 2015 2:27 AM

Basically, they just need to go here on catches: is it in his hands and two feet down? That's a catch. Doesn't matter if it looks like he has control or not. For catches on the ground - does it touch the ground before it hits his hands? That's a trap. Doesn't matter if his hands are under the ball or not.

While this would tend to increase the number of catches in the former category, and reduce the number in the latter, you wouldn't have any of this "control" and "making football move" crap. It would also give the booth way less evidence to overturn calls on the field. I'm fine with that. Replay should be used to stop absolute travesties, and it does not do that now, so the least it should do is not make people hate the on-field refs even more.

"Did it wiggle a bit?" should not be a question any official has to answer.

Blogger Nate November 16, 2015 8:20 AM

brady is better today. Better today is not a career achievement.
