NFL Week Three

This is the weekly NFL open thread. Skol Vikes!

Although I'm unhappy about AD being out for the season, I'm confident that Asiata and McKinnon can pick up where they left off two years ago. Especially with Bradford at quarterback instead of Cassel.

Been out of the loop all week and learn about AD from you....Vox, you really and truly are an optimist. Could learn a thing or two from that I suppose....

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Vikings want Adrian Peterson to retire "as a valued member of the organization."

Vikings hoping AD will just retire so they won't be the bad guys when they try to get out of his contract next year; he is due $11.75M base salary and $6M roster bonus.

Among his other stupidities, Colin Kaepernick is underweight (went from 220 lbs to under 200 in the offseason). Niner fans claim it's because he had surgery, but... no. He went on a vegan diet.

Incredible play by Carr, escaping three pass rushers and throwing a thirty yard pass to Crabtree

Blogger YIH September 25, 2016 3:10 PM

Maybe Vox has reason for optimism. They're ahead of the Panthers. The surprise is Arizona, they should be beating the Bills, they're not. The other surprise is the Titans are making a game of it against the [insert city here] Raiders.

Blogger Cinco September 25, 2016 3:22 PM

Vikes look solid under Bradford. Their play is short and choppy but the Panthers are having a hard time with it. i am not sure they have the speed and /or WR threat to spread it the defenses but they are fun to watch today.

Blogger Nate September 25, 2016 3:25 PM

why does offense always look so easy for the rest of the NFL... and so hard for the Titans?

I really think Mariota just isn't very good.

Anonymous VFM #6306 September 25, 2016 3:28 PM

Wow. Marcus Mariota looks like a machine out there.

A slot machine. Pull that arm one more time, and maybe he'll pay off...

Because our head coach is an idiot

Blogger JaimeInTexas September 25, 2016 3:30 PM

Nate, have you seen Houston's recently?

There head coach isn't making Mariota spray balls all over the field like some palsy ridden paraplegic.

This is why Hillary Clinton should never watch the Titans. So triggering.

So which team should a Cardinals fan start cheering for?

The Cards are awful, the first string was horrible in preseason and it hasn't improved at all. Offense is totally out of sync, defense can't stop anything, and the special teams can't do anything right at all.

Anonymous VFM #6306 September 25, 2016 5:17 PM

Carolina is no match for Zimmer. The game there two years ago had Newton looking like he did today at home.

Nice start, Vikings. Now get better.

Titans and Browns
Hand design frowns.
If there's a pooch to be screwed they don't mind it,
Or a new way to lose? They will find it!

Not the Niners, that's for damn sure, not only due to Krapernig, but because they're sucking more than Tim Cook at an iPhone release party.

Anonymous VFM #6306 September 25, 2016 5:23 PM

Jabari, how about trying the Cardinals? The Bills are on the East Coast. That trip is historically murder - the definition of "out of synch." Their other loss is to the New England Hoods of Svengali. A lot of people lose to them.

Cards will be okay. LA Rams are the comfort women of the NFL.

Anonymous Jack Amok September 25, 2016 5:23 PM

Yeah, nothing like having the 49ers come to town to feel better about your offense. Hey, that Graham guy looks pretty good. Maybe they should use him more.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000709170/article/what-we-learned-mccoy-leads-bills-past-cardinals
1. The Vikings defense continues to shake up the top of the NFC power teams. One week after serving up Aaron Rodgers' worst game in years, Minnesota absolutely destroyed Cam Newton and the Panthers offense in the second half Sunday.

Trailing 10-0 late in the first quarter, Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter threw Michael Oher to the turf before tossing Newton down for a safety. The play started a pass rushing deluge for Minnesota, the team finishing with eight sacks and 12 QB hits.

2. After a fast start by Newton, the Panthers had no answers for Minnesota's depth and creativity up front. Everson Griffen led the way with three sacks and three tackles for loss, but Anthony Barr, Harrison Smith and especially Mike Zimmer's varied looks deserve credit for continually scrambling Carolina's offensive circuitry. This was the most impressive effort we've seen by any defense all season. Newton came into the game as the best QB in football and wound up getting picked off three times.

3. The Vikings can't run the ball (58 rushing yards) and can't protect Sam Bradford, yet they keep winning. Bradford deserves an assist in the victory for his second-half performance. After the Vikings offense was held to fewer first half yards (34) than any Vikings team since 2005, Bradford played mistake-free on three sharp scoring drives after halftime. His intermediate throws to Kyle Rudolph led the way.

The defense is carrying them... So far.

Sproles still gettin' it done...nice catch and run. Wentz while scrambling hits Sproles in stride.

Was nice watching the Vikes beat the Packers. AP wasn't looking all that great before the injury. Maybe it was all on the offensive line. Maybe. Time for fresh blood. Even without AP the Vikes are better than my Bears. Going to be a tough season.

2005, I was there and the game was insane. Probably the only time Vick ever played up to his potential. The Rams had no answer.

Your ownership will never spend the money to hire a competent coaching staff.

Remember back in 2010 when UM tried to get their Michigan Man from LSU, and failed? And again in 2014?

Only to end up with another Michigan Man in Harbaugh.

Colts tried desperately to lose but Chargers tried harder. An inspiring effort on both sides of the ball.

Low testosterone makes it extremely easy to get injured, this is one of the reasons little boys today have brittle bones that break during ordinary exertion.

Anonymous Anarchopurplism September 26, 2016 8:17 AM

The Viking Half-time adjustments on the O-ffense helped the Bradford get the ball out quicker.

I don't know what changes the D made schematically, but their effectiveness was undeniable.

Hunter threw Blindside on his backside for 2!
