Whatever, Twitter

I've never been a big fan of the medium, I don't need to use it, and while I probably will get around to accessing my account eventually, their inept technical support simply doesn't inspire me to make it a priority.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to verify you as the account holder and cannot assist you in accessing the account.

If you know which email address is associated with the account and you no longer have access to that email, please contact your email provider for assistance. More information can be found here: https://support.twitter.com/articles/107907.

For privacy reasons, we are not able to provide any additional information about this account’s email address. Even if you mistyped your email address on signup, we require that you write to us from the exact address tied to the account. There are no security questions you can answer nor additional information you can provide as proof of ownership.

While we understand it can be disappointing when you lose access to an account, these account verification requirements are in place to protect accounts and private user data.
So, they lock the account for "security" reasons at the same time they block links to this blog, but can't unlock it because I'm not verified. Right. I'm not disappointed at all. It's not a big deal, all I need to do is restore access to my old email address, but right now, I'm just too busy to bother.

The point is, don't be concerned if you don't see me on Twitter for a while. I don't care about Twitter any more than they do about their users.

But I will observe that this sort of casual indifference to customer relations, especially concerning problems they themselves caused, is the hallmark of a company that is doomed, sooner or later.

Especially when I've been on Twitter for years and have only 23,000 followers. I've been on Gab for all of about 4 hours and already have 500. Stefan Molyneux has nearly 2,000. If we can reach nearly as many people and without having to put up with all the SJW harassment, that's a complete no-brainer.

UPDATE: Or maybe I won't go bother going back at all. Now Twitter is locking the accounts of users who simply retweet a link to this blog. Which means that the "suspicious activity" that got my account locked in the first place was almost certainly posting a link here.

UPDATE: I've already changed the @voxday link here from Twitter to Gab. Apparently the waiting list has increased 18k, to 62k, in just the last few hours, so get in line now.

Dude, this is so obviously on purpose and not what they are actually saying that it is. They are SJWs and so, must be lying. Even if you did email them from the right email, they would probably claim the address didn't match.

"But I will observe that this sort of casual indifference to customer relations, especially concerning problems they themselves caused, is the hallmark of a company that is doomed, sooner or later."

This includes the majority of most large( and even small) companies in America these days.
Maybes it just me , but it seems that basic customer service is at an all time low.
Just excelling in that one area will really make a company stand out in the marketplace.

I once applied for a home loan. The lender said there was a problem - my wife's Social Security numbers shown on our tax returns didn't match the numbers shown in their computer. They demanded my wife produce her original Social Security card issued in the 1950's which, of course, was lost ages ago and a replacement takes forever. The customer service rep outright accused us of fraud. I kept bitching up the phone tree until I got a manager who could understand my question: "How did the bad information get INTO your computer - maybe it was YOUR data entry error?" Got the Emily Litella response and the loan went through.

Your call is not important to them.

Blogger SemiSpook37 September 21, 2016 8:58 AM

Deleted my Twitter back in August, and I haven't looked back. Actually, that was the last step I took, since I really hadn't been using the site for anything within the past year or so. Unfortunate, really.

If they want to continue to alienate and offend those that don't agree with their management, they do have that right. The problem for them is that we have the right to go somewhere else.

Blogger SemiSpook37 September 21, 2016 9:01 AM

@7

It's even worse than that. In my line of work, where I'm supporting a customer, it appears to me that the customer neither knows about nor cares to know what exactly it is they're trying to do. It's a lot of unmitigated waste, fraud, and abuse going on, and it really grates on me that nobody seems to take an interest in being accountable. It's embarrassing, really.

I think its only a matter of time before the people in power discover that the common denominator of the alt-right, game gate, RP or what ever the next big thing is the internet (and I am sure they know this already, for years but didn't have all the control necessary) -- it allows separate anarchists, sitting in their various caves, to come together and form critical masses -- if chaos is the fire, then the internet is the oxygen .. cut off the oxygen, stop the fire.

I think that Hanlon's razor should be used in cases like this. I had similar problems with Yahoo, haven't logged in for some time and even though I had correct password, forced me to answer security questions. Now as lot of you might know security questions are one of the most common ways how to have your account stolen, so obviously I always just fill some BS and forget about it. That was problem ofc. And because Yahoo smartly cancelled their web support and I don't have a time to explain it again and again to some Indian in outsourced call centre I just said fuck it and went somewhere else.

Anonymous Physics Geek September 21, 2016 9:35 AM

The same thing was done to me three times and I'm a nobody. Someone kept trying to hack my little twitter. My deleted blog did get 35,000 hits (not page views) on my best entries and hundreds of comments. More than a few leftists hated me with an odd passion. This stuff never seems to happen to anyone towing the SJW line. Twitter has always had that problem, it is a lot worse now. But there is a reason I did not promote my twitter, back when I had a good sized readership. Back then I only used Twitter for chit chat with people I knew to one degree or another.

Blogger Shimshon September 21, 2016 11:15 AM

I haven't yet seen or worked the actual site. But it strikes me that if you keep it simple, say early style Facebook (which was primitive, but which I liked for actual networking with friends and not product pushing), if the back-end was designed with the idea in mind, you could easily provide two different front end sites using the common back-end infrastructure and data streams. I certainly hope my stream is more configurable than what Twitter lets me do. I pay Feedly $45 yearly for their Pro service. It's worth not seeing a service I like and rely on being EOL'd. I would probably pay something similar (or even more) for a Twitter-style site that worked the way I want it to. Combined with FB style features, for sure. A guarantee against entryism would be worth a premium too. Anyone know anything about the company?

It does it over and over again. No matter what I try, I cannot post any link to Vox's blog. SMH.

SMH.

Blogger Shimshon September 21, 2016 11:34 AM

"Yes, I was recruited, so to speak."

This makes sense. What would be the draw for people, lots of people, right out the gate? Perhaps people like Milo? Cernovich? Vox? Or organizations like Breitbart? The @realDonaldTrump? Obviously, just guessing on most. With Twitter (and FB) openly drawing blood (so they think) in the Culture War, it's easy to see lots of people literally walking away from Twitter. Combine with some meme about closing Twitter accounts to now Gab (ie boycott them), and their loss could be very noticeable.

It's incredible. They have literally gone off the rails (but the train is still fine). They always played the plausible deniability so well, even though we could all see right through it. But now, they tossed all pretense out and declared open war. They really do think they own social media. And that they can act with open impunity.

And they probably assume that Gab will Voat itself to quick irrelevance, even if it gains some prominence after opening enrollment. Even knowing nothing else, if they're recruiting the likes of Vox (so to speak), I'll take the other side of that bet.

Blogger Cederq September 21, 2016 11:40 AM

Slightly worrying "Guidelines" on Gab re"terrorism:

"What defines a ‘terrorist organization or agenda’?Any group that is labelled as a terrorist organization by the United Nations and/or United States of America classifies as a terrorist organization on Gab."

Not sure those two "authorities" should Trump (geddit?) a more commonsense definition like "a group that advocates for, or has committed, violent agitation against civilians for a political goal." Do we really want "Republicans" or "The Altright" to be banned by Gab?

"Over at the Chateau he is talking the same thing. Shut down, and they want personal information."

As an aside, voxday.blogspot.fr links still work. It seems rotating TLD's the way thepiratebay does can circumvent this.

I have never used Twitter but signed up for Gab when RickyVaughn suggested it. My first 'gab'-- "We need VoxDay here!" Got a like within 10 seconds.

They don't want to verify, they don't even want to shut you up. They want to permanently tie the account to a physical person.
They have monetary as well as ideological reasons to do so. After all, My real ID is more valuable than Snidely Whiplash, and you can't send the party van to an anonymous gmail account.

If I cared, I would probably do that. As it is, Twitter banned me, and I feel fine.

hello world..! They can't do jack shit to the dark web. They can't shut down packet radio or local wifi nets. As long as you have some trunk line substitutes connecting major population centers you can't shut down the internet. It will remap itself onto whatever network pops up to replace the government controlled lines. And replacement networks will be created. People all over the world already do that very thing all the time for various reasons, some benign, some not so benign.
