Democracy and demographics

California used to be a reliable Republican state. Not so much anymore.
When 818,000 voters in Los Angeles County fill out their ballots this election, they will find themselves in strange political territory: The only Republican names they’ll see will be presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence.

In this GOP “dead zone” — spanning parts of five congressional districts, five state Assembly districts and one state Senate district — not a single Republican candidate made it on to the November ballot.

Instead, all but three of the candidates in those races will be Democrats. In two races voters can choose Libertarian Party candidates who mounted successful write-in campaigns during the primary. And in an East Los Angeles congressional race, an Air Force medic is mounting a bare-bones campaign as an independent against Lucille Roybal-Allard.

This scenario is the result of California’s relatively new, voter-approved primary system in which the two candidates who finish with the most votes in the June election go on to the general election — even if they are from the same party.

For the first time in a statewide contest, voters have two Democrats only to choose between in the open U.S. Senate contest between California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris and Rep. Loretta Sanchez.

But for those 818,000 voters in parts of Los Angeles County, such as the San Fernando Valley and Central Los Angeles, the dearth of GOP options stretches much further down the ballot, according to an analysis of voter registration conducted for The Times by Political Data Inc.
Immigration always has consequences, but the consequences are realized faster in a democracy.

The LA Times pointed out in the late 80s that the most popular baby name in LA county was "Jose". In the early 90s it was difficult to find an english language program on AM radio. The 2000 census showed that 1/3 of California residents were not born in the US. I pointed this out to numerous members of the GOP pundit class from the mid 90s on with a shoulder shrugging response on their part. Weirdly, most of them still don't get it.

Tacit acknowledgment that it's a one-party state, just like those the immigrants came from.

I got the hell out of that now foreign country called "California" in 1999. Went back a couple of summers ago. The neighborhood I grew up in is now all Mexican. 100%. There was an attempted burglary of my car after not more than 10 minutes in a convenience store. The took off as I walked back out. Build the wall at the Nevada border.

My neck of California isn't a dead zone yet, but it's pretty much surrounded. And as soon as the state legislature re-fixes the bayonets for the two Christian universities out here I expect the exodus to begin in earnest.

I'm working on my exit plan, but not sure where to go.

Admittedly it is dispiriting looking at the ballot and seeing a list of names with "Democrat" next to them, but I still see this as a positive change. Given the reality of the demographics in California, what this really means is now Republicans and Independents have a chance to prevent more crazies like Nancy Pelosi getting in.

The best part is the Democrats who created this situation are going to start reaping their reward. As in Minnesota it isn't going to be the reward they expected. Instead they are going to find themselves tossed out on their asses while Jose y Maria are put in their place. Soon they will be demanding that all bills in congress be written in Spanish.

Yeah, if only the water was cut off to southern California.

Much of the problems with the drought are man made due to the water projects never being finished and certainly never being sized for the current population (if 10 million people were gone, however). The political class feels it is more important to dump millions of litres of water to sustain some fish no one has ever heard of than to allow human beings to live, so perhaps it is best that they live in a monoculture and get engulfed in flames when the system they created can no longer support their underclass of peons and serfs.

Of course, the cleansing fires of the race and class war the political elites have been trying to start for so long will likely bring about a "sustainable" population for California once it is done, so some good will come of it.......

For many, many years in most of SoCal the Democratic primary was the election. The only change here is they thought they'd hold the election on election day instead and let everyone vote. The very wealthy people who control the Democratic party think things are working out for them, but at some point the hispanics are going to flex their political muscle and turn this place into Venezuela.

California was doomed anyways. Half of it is a natural desert, and they want to pretend that they are in a 'draught' when its just the normal state of things. The only problem is all the white liberals who are fleeing from their self-made destruction into what would be otherwise fully red states.

I'm starting to think that limiting interstate immigration wouldn't be a bad idea. Texas for Texans, West Virginia for West Virginians.

Even if they do recognize immigration invasion is the problem, they won't dare touch the key racial/cultural questions that would explain their downfall. I hope white Californians wake up at least enough to figure out some reasonable plan of action before its too late for them to save whatever gains they still possess.

There is a book called Two Years Before the Mast by a man named Richard Dana published in 1840. DAna dropped out of Harvard and signed on as a common sailor on a trading voyage around the horn to California. His description of Spanish California is very interesting. He was astonished at the richness of the land and yet under Mexican rule it was totally undeveloped with a stunning lack of native industry. His ship was loading cow hides for shipment to new England where they would be worked into shoes and other products and sold back to the Mexican Californians at an inflated price. Dana could not understand why no one in California cut out the middle man by making their own products. The natives were idle and had very little business acumen or drive even on the great ranches of old Spanish families.
I think California is going full circle but instead of boasting undeveloped resources it will be third world slums.

Speaking as an alt-right resident of the Puget Sound area, there are nice parts about the region, and politics isn't one of them. It's impossible to have a fact-based conversation, because anything that is true and doesn't support the leftist view is an intolerable act of hate-speech to point out. Simple statements of self-evident fact can be considered racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful. Seriously considering moving, but then the question of "where" arises, and I see no great answers. I view this as a positive, at least as a non-democrat I can now vote for the democrat that is the lessor of two evils as the Repub never had a chance anyway and even if they did they were no better than the Dems. The real damage was done back in the 60's with the "one man one vote" ruling by the USSC, before that at least the rural counties (with the more conservative populations) had a better ability to block the crazies from the urban areas.

For those not familiar before that ruling most states were modeled after the federal system were representatives were apportioned by population in the assembly and by county for the senate (two state senators per county). The liberals couldn't stand that and so "one man one vote" neatly got rid if that little road block to the path of liberalized utopia.

Sort of like the elections in the USSR - you could vote for any candidate you wanted but the only candidates on the ballot all happened to be members of the Communist Party.

I was born in Oakland when it was predominantly white and the Oakland PD had a reputation as one of the toughest in the state. After nearly 50 years the wife and I moved out. And neither of us is remotely a democrat. I suspect one reason the state is now so solidly in the leftist column is that people on the right have been leaving steadily while being replaced by Sr. Bueno from Guadalajara (and his wife and children and parents and uncles and aunts and cousins and amigos from the old neighborhood in Meheeco). The leftists in the state mostly don't seem to notice what is happening or are fine with it so they tend to stay put though I am sure some have moved as jobs have disappeared and taxes ratcheted up.

OT (somewhat):

My wife and I went up to the mountains of Virginia over the last three days. From central NC to Charlottesville, VA there were Trump-Pence signs everywhere we went, almost door-to-door. The signs for Clinton-Kaine were - non-existent initially. I started looking and counting, and managed to count less than 10, including the outskirts of Charlottesville, which is an SJW converged zone.

Purely anecdotal, but there is something really fishy (as in "smells") about this election. If the Lizard Queen is merely awaiting coronation, then why is there a near total absence of enthusiastic visible support on the ground?!?

I realize that most of the time we were traveling through red-state "flyover" country, but Kaine had to have some support from Virginians to become Governor. Or is it that the Beltway counties now swamp the rest of the state?

Weird vibe!

The People's republic of Charlottesville proper, would be mostly Bernie supporters, so they'll likely swing Trump.

Now north of Fredricksburg is the real battle. That's where the government workers and El Salvadorians live. That's going to be the real challenge.

I still feel like he'll win her in VA. But it depends largely on Tidewater to swing the vote.

If that statement is true (and it is) then to change the destiny of California we must change the demographics. WWII saw the displacement and movement of tens of millions of people within just a few years. If a bloody WWII style war is necessary to reconquer from and cleanse California of the 3rd World Hordes then so be it. That land is ours, G-d dam it.

I was born in Cali, and my dad's job took us way up into the rural areas of far north-eastern California and southern Oregon (Lake, Klamath, and Jackson counties). I remember the "Don't Californicate Oregon" signs, and the "Welcome to Oregon...now leave!" jokes.
Unfortunately, those signs worked as well as gun-free zones do, and now flocks of California cuckoos have laid their eggs in Oregon. They flee the traffic and urban hells and find that the shack they sold for 800,000 dollars in the Bay Area will get them a nice place to live in Oregon or Washington. The people staying in California are basically the very rich and the poor.

The middle class can't survive in most places where people actually want to live. Then when the leave, they want to keep all their amenities and lifestyle and progressive thinking as they spread their pestilence abroad.

California is riding a knife edge with all the huge public service pension promises that have no funding. When the smoke clears, the mirrors break, and the checks bounce, the cries of anguish will echo up and down the Sierra Nevadas, and the Okie migration may start again, but in reverse this time.

Anonymous a deplorable rubberducky October 27, 2016 11:05 PM

I interpret the "dead zones" as significant. Incumbents were always hard to unseat, but as long as we had primaries and one candidate per party on the general ballot, it was possible. Unlikely and hard, but possible. Virginians proved the power of this with Eric Cantor, and struck absolute fear in the halls of Congress. Being "primaried" is what keeps those whores up at night.

Forget about that now in the CA dead zones. Also, forget about insurgent elements from within the Democrat Party getting very far, either. Their best chance, too, was in the primaries. No, what you have now in the dead zones completely favors party bosses and insider politics.

It's a very third world arrangement. Election day is a formality. Quite Mexican in aspect, no? What an astonishing coincidence!!!

I think you can put the nail in the coffin of any hope that things may resolve in California politically. It's Mexifornia, if anybody had any doubt about that left.

The remaining question is what to do about it? Do we want California back? If so, that's going to require re-conquest of California. Militarily. Hard to see the stomach or will for that anywhere. Should we let it go? Well we better. If we're not going to take it back, we better let it go and also actively contain the rot and keep it from spreading. Because if we don't, like so many countless political trends coming down my whole life, it starts in California and then spreads out across the United States.

Same problem here, except I'm hitting retirement age. Was thinking about Hood Canal area. The problem is that I know they will jack up property taxes until people start leaving the state. I've spent too much time on the West Coast.

Another native Cali expat here who nine years ago traded the sun and the surf for the swine and the pine of North Carolina. Had a kid and it was time to vámonos. No way I was raising her there. Physically gorgeous (if you can avert thine eyes from all the concrete) and teh weather, ohh teh weather. The immediate family is still there so free vacations aplenty, but California is lost my friends, lost. So sad.

I wish these California expats would, for once, fucking think about what the states they're moving into feels about having their kind move in.

California didn't just magically turn Mexican overnight. California didn't just magically turn liberal overnight. Something happened some decades ago, but Californians were too busy surfing these "dude killer waves lmao" and having gay sex to notice or do something about it.

When the illegals self deport real estate will become more reasonable. Maybe we'll all get lucky and the Californicators will go home. They ruined my state and many others. Go back to California, thirty million Mexicans can't be wrong.

Anonymous Just another commenter October 28, 2016 12:24 AM

@74 - my parents bugged out of California in the '60s. They looked around and decided it wasn't a groovy place to raise kids. The whole family loves a lot about the coastal region, and we have lived in CA, OR, WA, and AK. They are great places in many ways.

The problem is when you have a geographically small area with a massive population with insane politics because they are so far removed from the natural world, out-voting a much larger area with only slightly smaller a population. All the usual suspect in CA. The I5 corridor from Portland to Eugene in OR, the Olympia-Seattle axis of evil in WA, and Juneau+Anchorage in AK, and the rest of each state is screwed. The city folks talk about diversity, but think of anyone not-city with contempt. They live only by the rules of man, and do not understand natural laws, natural cycles, or natural consequences. They are insane....

So where to go, before it is too late?

Anonymous Deplorable S E Delenda October 28, 2016 12:26 AM

You remember when you were a kid and your teacher (assuming you a bit older than a millennial here) told you the beauty of democracy was that if the people didn't like the elected, they could change them?

We now have a situation where the elected don't like the people, and they are changing them. This is not democracy or democratic. It is cultural genocide.

Sure, if you allow the surplus population of mexico and south America to come here and sponge off the American taxpayer they'll overrun the locals.

Of course once that has happened the economy will crash and suddenly their EBT cards won't work - what will they do then? Probably go home..
.
And what makes you think that ALL Hispanics will vote democrat forever, or blacks, or democrat Whites? Don't you think that Whites might notice that the democrat party is being run by a former Grand Dragon of "La Raza"? Won't blacks realize that they can't guilt Hispanics the way they could Whites - and that their jobs are all being filled by illegals?

The democrat powers that be are not deep thinkers. They have opened Pandora's box but they have no idea what is going to come out.

In the final analysis the future belongs to those who show up. The fertility rate in mexico has gone down MUCH faster than the rate in the US - I'm not sure that they HAVE the numbers to swamp us anymore, which is why Obama has been recruiting from central and south America recently.
.
Ten years ago the Palestinians were crowing that they were going to push the jews into the sea because of their higher fertility. Since then Israeli fertility has gone from 1.9 to 2.9 and Palestinian fertility has gone from 6 to 3.2. The jewish women got scared and decided to do something about it. I remember my Israeli supervisor making a conscious decision to have a fourth child at the age of 42 even though her other three kids were in their late teens.

This isn't rocket science, stick it in, jiggle it around - 9 months later you've got a new voter..

Well, in our defense, we did pass that proposition to get all the illegals out under Pete Wilson, but it was struck down by an imperial judge. White Californians did want to stop the invasion. We were betrayed by Reagan's amnesty and liberal federal judges.
I think you all will want to be a little bit nicer to Californians. There aren't enough whites anywhere.
I'm trying to make plans to move back to Virginia, but it seems to be enemy territory now as well.

If you won't allow me the ironic use of "Cali" to indicate the increasing Hispanic population (not to mention my riffing on "Straight Outta Compton"), then perhaps you should find a shorter train.

With an average IQ around 55, and short time horizons to match, the natural Democrat constituency as a general rule doesn't have the intellectual wherewithal to grasp that they lack the intellectual wherewithal even to have opinions about these questions, and as such do not care about such things nearly as much as where their next bottle of malt liquor and package of blunt wrappers is coming from. "It's Whitey's fault" and "Gibs me dat," in whatever language, are their religion and their creed, taken in with their mothers' milk and marinated in generations of propaganda presented by "community organizers," and these things they truly believe. If you are holding out hope for for them to figure out that they're being used and turn satisfyingly upon their erstwhile puppet-masters like Frankenstein's Monster, I respectfully submit that I hope you've got a Plan B.

>The democrat powers that be are not deep thinkers. They have opened Pandora's box but they have no idea what is going to come out.

More of the same, I predict, but piled higher and deeper--up to a point. When the municipal water and the EBT cards stop working, at that point I predict that matters will bypass the French Revolution stage altogether, with its niceties of leaflets and speeches and show-trials--which would be lost on post-literate populations anyway, if any significant number of them were ever literate in the first place in any meaningful sense of the word--and proceed directly to cannibalism and a very rapid drop in population.

As someone on the ground in one of these districts, I'm acutely aware of the descent of one-party rule in Commiefornia.

The policy which allows this is arguably a violation of the constitution through denial of choice to the voter, but the feeble challenges made to the law were never appealed beyond the district level when they would have to reach the supremes to escape the partisan judicial dead-zone out west.

At this point, at least to me, the solution is clear:

The lack of democracy in the state should be brought before the US congress by the republican majorities and California ejected from the union for abrogating the right to vote.

There is no reason the rest of America should allow the corrupt to hijack 55 electoral votes by imposing uni-party rule upon the union's largest state.

This is the new normal everywhere. I remember growing up here in Minnesota and going to West St Paul to buy baseball cards at a shop called shinders. Honest to God I don't think I saw one black or mexican until about 11 years old. 25 years later, whites are the minority in wsp, and you'd be hard pressed to strike up a conversation without an interpreter. The left has given this country away to invaders to win elections, while the right turned a blind eye to appease big buisness for cheap labor. Soon white left progressive will dominate elections as the minorities in their pocket spread like wildfire. That, until those same white lib democrats get overtaken in racial numbers by the same people they let in. At which point they will lose political lose primaries and gwt scalped by the people they once let in because of demographics and race identity politics.

Yes, he excitedly asked for papers and 6-7 U.S. Marshals tackled him, wrestled him to the floor, and tased him. Even some of the news services are calling it "surreal."

@81

Your mention of federal (or is that feral?) judges reminds me that almost nobody talks about the judiciary as something that needs to be restrained, not restaffed.

Starting with Marbury v. Madison, the judiciary has arrogated to itself a final and supreme status. I cite Article 3, Section 2, Clause 2 as its proper place.

"the Supreme Court shall have appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such exceptions, and under such regulations as the Congress shall make."

Now I am not at all foolish enough to believe that dead letter matters, except as a point point on the map from where we came. Trump, if he wins will appoint more restrained justices; but we only need be reminded that Reagan appointed Kennedy to understand how that works.

We need to effectively remind people that the Court enjoys a prestige is does not merit. Marbury v. Madison, Buck v. Bell, Korematsu v. United States, Roe v. Wade, Kelo v. New London and their most recent miscarriage of justice, that illegals can be counted for the purposes of political representation, thus incentivizing it, must be held to public ridicule and scorn-even if the vast majority of people think that one must be a lawyer to hold opinions on judicial decision.

@86

"That, until those same white lib democrats get overtaken in racial numbers by the same people they let in"

Hillary might very well be the last caucasian that makes it through the Dems nominating practice, unless she loses and Elizabeth Warren is then seen as the next logical candidate in their desire to have a female president; by 2020, she will be 71, her window is closing rapidly. The stupid white leftists will celebrate their own extinction because self loathing and xenomania are among their pathologies.

Blogger Chiva October 28, 2016 11:25 AM

the consequences are realized faster in a democracy.

In California we are experiencing those consequences good and hard. Will things here in California get worse? Most definitely. I expect sections of this state to look like failed nation-states.
But even here in the 'belly of the beast' there are flickers of hope. The pressures of living in a society that does not really accept you is forcing people of like mind to seek each other out and to actually depend on each other. That is something new and different here.

I have been very careful with how much realtalk I give my son- he has to survive California schools and he is too young to keep his mouth shut. But when I made some casual reference to Latinos he pointedly said he has no latino friends. Asians seem fine. I think Vox is a bit more pessimistic that facts on the ground warrant. But you can also see the seperation. Soccer games between us and especially the 100% lower class latino teams are always on the edge of violence between the players and parents.

Blogger Chiva October 28, 2016 3:45 PM

I also see the separation. I have lived in California since the the mid-70s and have seen this separation become wider (especially in the last 15 years).
It is interesting that you noted lower class Latino teams and violence. The more recent 'arrivals' from South America are definitely more aggressive and violent prone. There are little barrios that have sprung up where even 2nd generation Hispanics feel out of place.

I fear that when hard times hit (and they will) many people will not be ready for the level of mayhem to will ensue.

Amazing how Denver went from the last midwestern outpost to a fawking west coast commie petri dish up in the mountains. Oh no mistake: it doesn't matter how hard I mock and ridicule these fagggottzzz for how they ruined CA, or how it's their own fault they priced themselves out of CA, or how they shouldn't bring their commie shit brain attitudes to whatever state they flee to...but to no avail. It's just lip service to them. (((They))) can't wait to be the plague upon your state! (((Locust plague))) indeed coming to your hometown motherfawkers! Keep shitting on CA all you want, it isn't gonna change your fate.

Whatever happens in this state soon finds its way to your state. Running from (((commmies))) is not an option fellas. You're gonna have to meet me in the Mojave so I can lead you inside the gates. Yes, a fellow above listed 3 choke points.

The intellectual horsepower in this state outweighs everywhere else. Believe it. And once it gets flipped back and restored to its former glory days, CA will shine and America will begin to shine again too...

PS...

Tell your dudes at Breitbart that a CIA/Leon Panetta/FBI/Hillary State Dept were keeping a watchful eye on a UCLA project in 2009 where they tracked and found Osama, who had been MIA since 2001. The report was hand delivered to CIA director Leon Panetta.

They sat on it for 2+ years...

HILLARY was colluding with terrorists, most likely OBL himself?
Blackmailing terrorists with the info we had on them...
Funds going straight into Clinton Foundation yes?

Oh shieeet...we aren't doing so well politically in late 2011?

Then they went after him and took ALL the credit.

Hillary/CIA/FBI/ all of them are pozzed and colluding with terrorists.

CA's stupid new voting law, _designed_ to achieve a one-party (Democrat, of course) state:

https://web.archive.org/web/20101103173546/http://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/past/2010/primary/propositions/14/analysis.htm

I was still in CA at the time, and voted against it, to no avail.

Lived in SoCal 28 years, and in all that time only saw ONE ballot initiative that wasn't intended to benefit some special interest. Well, you can't get much more "special" than the average California Democrat.
