Paul Ryan goes full-NeverTrump

It will be glorious when the Trumpslide upsets the applecarts of the GOP sellouts:
Speaker Paul Ryan told House Republicans on a conference call Monday morning that he’s done defending Donald Trump and will focus on maintaining his party’s increasingly imperiled House majority, according to sources on the call. The message amounted to a concession by the highest-ranking elected Republican that his nominee for president can’t win — and lawmakers should act accordingly to save themselves and preserve a Republican Congress to act as a check on Hillary Clinton.
I always told you they were the stupid faction of the bifactional Ruling Party. Now you know. Now everyone knows.

When the #Trumpslide occurs he will be de-elected. The internet never forgets, and neither do we.

To be fair Cuck Ryan wouldn't do much to defend Jeb either, if only they fought the left as hard. Funny thing shitlib media is showing pics of Pence with his eyes closed on the podium, but no Crooked Eye Clinton with green gobs spit out into water.

TRUMP should come up with a saying for the next time gallop finds a supposedly undecided moslem voter. Maybe "Thank you for keeping an open mind as an undecided moslem, so many of your people are willing to look the other way when they see terrorists and just claim to fear the backlash afterwards. We couldn't even find a moslem in an Orlando gay bar bathroom that didn't stand with HERpes."

There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures."

They could be riding the Trump campaign into world-straddling vicotry.
But they are small men, with small minds, unable to see opportunity, unable to reach for glory, unable to be true even to themselves, let alone one another.
And now their lives will be bound in shallows and in miseries.

Blogger Valtandor Nought October 10, 2016 1:27 PM

I'm amused, but not surprised, that the article interprets this behaviour as stemming from a belief that Trump can't win.

Surely it's at least equally plausible that it's a case of not wanting him to win.

But it starts to look not unlike the man who takes out a life insurance policy on his wife just before her mysterious disappearance.

You are a leader of a party and you have responsibility to the party. When you see that there is no chance your presidential nominee can win, and when you see that he has no intention of even trying to win, your job is to protect your party and its constituents.

Ryan is doing exactly the right thing by focusing on down ballot races. It's the party's only chance at this point.

It's not so much that they are small men, but the enemy. The gap between Paul Ryan policies and Hillary Clinton policies is paper thin as you zoom out from the momentary Red-Blue factional fighting to see its place in history. The GOP has acted as a giant heat sink soaking up right-wing energy and expelling it from the system, allowing progressives to march almost unimpeded for 20 years.

I'm not saying this to troll--I don't like Trump, but I'd much rather him than the Wicked Witch--I just don't understand what you're looking at that makes you conclude Trump has this thing in the bag.

@T-Rav. The "neverTrump" meme of the day is that he is in the process of falling in the polls, that he is losing supporters, and that he has no chance of winning. I wouldn't bet on that. Despite the ardent hopes of Establishment dead-enders, Trump turns out huge crowds (Hillary does not). Trump beats Hillary by something like 10 to 1 in private polls and did much the same thing in a ABC-sponsored online poll just last week, Finally, in the social media world frequented by younger voters, Donald Trump has 10.9 million Twitter followers compared to Hillary's 8.33 million. What does it all mean? It means that even Empires cannot create their own reality, Karl Rove's beliefs to the contrary notwithstanding..

protect your party and its constituents.

His constituents are the Bush family and Mitt Romney. He doesn't care about down ballot races, otherwise he would say things designed to drive up GOP turnout, not depress it. The #NeverTrump move on Friday has the Democrats now winning the Senate after it had slipped away only a couple of weeks earlier. Their goal is the destruction of opposition to the globalist agenda. If it takes a Democrat House and Senate to do it, then so be it. Ryan, Mittens and the Bushes will then bring up abortion or some nonsense to sucker the Right into wasting all their energy electing anti-Christian globalists.

You hit on some really interesting questions: What the GOP will do in the wake of Trump, the loss of three elections in a row and the loss of control of the Senate and the Supreme Court?

The thing is, the GOP still controls a huge portion of the country's electorate due to redistricting that makes these districts very safe. They won't fall too far back in the Senate, and they'll likely keep the house. Still, what's the post mortem?

They will look at the numbers: How did minorities vote and how did women vote? Then, how to convince these groups to vote with the GOP.

Frankly, I think their only option is to embrace populist economics, embrace the shrinking middle class, push an agenda that focuses on the middle class exclusively, give up their anti-gay agenda, do an amnesty program that denies voting rights, then hope to hell the economy doesn't get better.

Anonymous Broken Arrow October 10, 2016 2:27 PM

@40 This is the basic blueprint of the new GOP after a Trump loss

To move toward a more purposeful party platform, here are a few proposals that place sound policy before partisanship. While increasing border security (without building a nonsensical wall), create a system where undocumented immigrants can work towards legal status, not citizenship. Acknowledge the dangers of climate change and promote a 20-30 year transitional path from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources, which includes a revenue neutral carbon tax. Close the gun-show loophole and expand the market for smart handguns that can only be used by their owners. Form a bipartisan commission on tax reform that will require two ironclad criteria: revenue neutrality and the guarantee that recommendations would receive only an up-or-down vote preventing riders and amendments. In addition, to keep the swarms of lobbyists at bay, members of the House and Senate would have to wait a minimum of three years before becoming a consultant or lobbyist.

Every solution I've seen in the post-Trump era is the GOP becoming lite Democrats who want to woo and encourage immigrants.

The current polls seem meaningless. The MSM is without a doubt in Clinton's camp. As such I trust none of their polls. The MSM confirmationed biased themselves into look abjectly stupid with the polls regarding the BREXIT

This election tells me that the power to the MSM is almost dead. Trump apparently wins on social media. And because of the viral, electronic nature of social media, Trump doesn't have to spend a lot of money. A tweet costs (is the right concept opportunity coosts?) Trump $0.00.

Except for the liberal bastions like CBS, NBC, and ABC and such, it seems like a landslide for Trump. What I don't see is a lot of enthusiasm for Hillary in any but the most liberal corners of the intertubes.

Trumps rallies more people with more entusiasm. I've seen the web pages dedicated to showing his turnout vs her turnout.

I hope this isn't my own confirmation bias. I want to have legitimate objective reasons for believing in the Trumpslide.

If Clinton, Inc.,, wins, the deplorables aren't going away. It'll be time to ....ahem only figuratively speaking (fuck you NSA)start packing ammo. I've seen in more than one corner where people (including me) simply will not accept Clinton, Inc., as the legitimate president of the US.

I have to admit that it is very difficult to resist the constant doomsaying and gaslighting. In politics reality/perception feedback on each other in an endless loop.

I have no idea whether Trump's rally size is actually meaningful or not. Perhaps, his supporters just like rallies. (Personally, I would never go to a rally for any reason). In 2008 rally size seemed to really indicate enthusiasm and were at least somewhat predictive of Big Gay Obama's victory. In 2012, I recall that Romney had huge rallies in Colorado and ended up getting smoked. On the other hand, it seems that Sick Hillary's inability to generate any crowds of any size and Trump's large rallies should mean something, but perhaps not.

Likewise, many people -- including myself -- were hoodwinked by the "skewed polls" meme in 2012. That indicates that I should ignore the "shy Trump" supporter issue in 2016, but yet the cross-tabs of the polls do seem "skewed." Then again, knowing that people like me will be very skeptical of any "skewed poll" argument, does that not give them more license to skew and thus turn skewed polling into an even more effective gaslighting technique than it would have before?

Anyway, one can see why James Jesus Angelton went insane.

I'm seeing the same old "Correct The Record" concern trolling back on this thread since Hillary was destroyed in last nights debate.

"but muh polls.. muh polls"

I'm going to blow this out of the water right now, and with citations:

If you examine the crosstabs of the polls that show huge deficits for clinton, you will notice one constant: they sample upwards of 30% more Democrats than Republicans. The more egregious Hillary's leads have nearly as many Democrats sampled as Repubicans and Independents COMBINED. They are there to push an agenda and demoralize and depress Republican turnout.

The LA Times tracking poll has shown Trump ahead for some time. It uses 2012 demographic weighting, which is still favorable to Democrats.

http://graphics.latimes.com/usc-presidential-poll-dashboard/

Trump's changes are far better than that, however. Statistical modeling of the primary contests and all other votes taken so far vs the 2008 and 2012 cycles are indicating this year will be a REVERSE of the 2008 Obama blow-out.

In short: we will have millions more republicans voting this year than Obama had democrats in 2008: widely acknowledged as the highest Democratic turnout in living memory.

He is more ambitious than that; he'll provide cover for those who want to destroy that element of the Republican party that isn't all about kowtowing to the Chamber of Commerce, the kleptocrats of Wall Street and the libertines of Silicon Valley.

No, no-Saint Pauli Girl wants to run his me-too, we'll make the hard left red a pleasing color of pink campaign in 2020, rather than 2024. He knows his changes of remaining in the House for three more elections is slim, and wants to run while still having the power and perks of being SOTHUS.

Its important that he runs for President, so he can run the Bush41-Dole-McCain-Romney playbook of feckless, nominal opposition in order be slaughtered by to whatever sort of megalomaniac leftist the Dems run.

The GOP is deliberately throwing the Congressional races in order to deny a possible Trump victory any hope of implementing his agenda. Think about it, if they hold onto Congress and Trump wins, they will have no excuse failing to implement his agenda, which is counter to theirs and their donors.

Even if the repukes come out ok in their races, I don't expect them to give any support to President Trump. I think Trump should expand upon the executive orders approach that Bush and Obama have used. I don't whine to me about muh' constitution.

You are foolish enough to think anyone on this site will fall for your BS. We know your true goal is to ban all guns. If you get 3 more justices you will attempt to do just that. @54 There are a number of attempted technologies.

Fingerprint scanner. Doesn't work in the rain, or in blood; the shock of anything over a .22LR round breaks the electronics. The scanner takes 2-10 seconds to power up and recognize your fingerprint on the draw - you're already dead.

Magnetic ring or wristwatch. Doesn't work in the rain, or in blood. If it's strong enough to be reliable it's strong enough to screw up your cellphone. If your normal firing hand is injured or you are wrestling with an assailant you can't use it in your off hand unless you're always wearing two rings or two wristwatches. Your wife and kids can't use it in an emergency unless they too are always wearing the rings and wristwatches. The mechanical version has jamming issues but can handle stronger bullets, the electronic version can't go above .22LR.

The modern firearm is a 'four nines' technology. In and of itself, you should be able to fire a firearm reliably an average 10,000 times before a failure in the mechanism. These technologies are 'one nine'.. generally they fail two times out of twenty in tests.

Keep in mind the polling companies actually do want to stay in business so if they are oversampling the Democrats on purpose now they will correct this in the last polls right before the election. That way if Trump wins they could claim they predicted it all along.

This is another reason why the final polls, generally about 3 days or less before the election are the most accurate.

The thing is, the GOP still controls a huge portion of the country's electorate due to redistricting that makes these districts very safe. They won't fall too far back in the Senate, and they'll likely keep the house. Still, what's the post mortem?

Secession. The Red states control the major waterways, the bulk of energy production, most food production and some deep water ports. The leftist controlled federales will become increasingly corrupt and incompetent. Relations will return to pre-Civil War mentality: the relationship with the Feds is to be managed, all major policy decisions are made at the state level, planning for the collapse of USG once the U.S. dollar collapses.

@17 - But the polls are a joke- screaming SEXISM a bit louder will not do the job.

Every major poll save one has seen a major shift as a result of #PussyGate. Either the pollsters are dynamically adjusting their polls day by day, or there really has been a shift.

I would be inclined to believe the former if it wasn't for Rasmussen showing a 6pt Clinton jump.

The only exception has been the LA Times poll. Their methodology makes the poll resistant to temporary spikes, so as of this morning Trump still leads.

But that could mean one of two things. Either #PussyGate will blow over and the other polls will tighten back up. Or it won't and LA Times will just take longer to reflect the shift.

But the polls are a joke- screaming SEXISM a bit louder will not do the job.

American history since ratification of the 19th Amendment says otherwise. SEXISM! has done the job on taxes, the budget, the courts, family law, the prosecution of wars, the composition of the supreme court, education, abortion up to the moment of birth, the choice to ignore Bill Clinton's rapes, etc, etc, etc.

We have men serving in the army forced to march in red high heels because sexism. We have tech companies purposely firing all their white males and basically getting away with it because sexism. We have men who allow themselves to be beat to a pulp by their wives, only to be arrested and imprisoned by male cops when she doesn't have a mark on her...because sexism.

Trump is fighting the Democrats, half the Republican party, the mainstream media, the billionaire globalists, and now SEXISM!

Ryan is doing exactly the right thing by focusing on down ballot races.

Bullshit in a couple ways. No one who says "there is no chance he can win" believes that whatsoever. They-- and you-- don't believe that yourself and even as you make the statement you know that people won't buy it.

And if Ryan was truly doing work for his downballot guys, he would acknowledge the undeniable fact that tons of voters who would have sat out otherwise will come out on election day to vote for Trump and that most of those are disgruntled Republicans. Those same voters will likely vote Republican on downballot contests UNLESS the those candidates come out as anti-Trump.

If/when Trump wins, this is Ryan's last chance to get some of his squishy middle Repubs into seats, because next round we will see a bunch of nationalist/state-first guys running because of Trump's success.

So Ryan is actually hurting his (supposed) team's chances by attempting to squash Trump votes.

And of course any losses he will then blame on Trump.

The coordination on this leak was obvious. The leak dropped Friday night and within 24 hours republican's were making statements and Saturday night live updated all of their skits to include a reference to it? Some how, I think not.

The hypocrisy was laid bare in their skit on weekend update when they said "yeah, Bill Clinton has done and said worse but at least he did it with style"

That should be Game. Set. Match. if anyone running the Trump campaign would take the time to highlight it. They admitted on air that they don't really care about the issue other than using it as a bludgeon.

With regards to the polls showing Hillary up by a lot: The interesting thing is they have Hillary winning by 8 to 11%, when Obama at his best in 2008, won by 7.2 %.

Now think back to 2008: the economy was in shambles, the Iraq war was very unpopular, Obama was perceived as a hopeful post racial peace president or so portrayed to whites and an Icon to Blacks. The republicans had had office for 8 years, the trend since WWII was the part in power to hold office for 8 years and then switch (only untrue with Carter and Bush 88). McCain was weak and old. Obama had every advantage possible and won it by 7.2 %

If we go back to 2012, Obama won it by 3.9%. White working class turn out was around 55 %. Hmmm... does anyone think Hillary is more popular than Obama in 2012 or in 2008? Can she get the 64% turn out in Blacks that Obama got in 2012, when the national turn out rate was ~53 %. It is very unlikely she could get, even assuming the rest of the electorate votes in the same proportions as 2012, a spread of more than 2~3% above Trump.

Something is bogus in that poll, as are a lot of the polls showing Hillary ahead by 7 or more points. 1 to 3 points could be possible, above that is simply not creditable. Unlike other elections where the polls seem to start to converge as the race goes along, in this election they are heading in opposite directions. Polls such as state UPI, PPD, LA times show Trump up by a few points, while these other polls like NBC are headed in the other direction with Hillary margins of 8 to 11 %. Unreal internals in most of these polls, things like 46 % Dem, 35 % republicans and 19% independents. If you did down into the internals the bias seems to be deliberate, there is no other conclusion possible. If you look at the polls where trump is up a few, the internals look a lot more reasonable. Why would this be?

My conclusion is polls like this are being released to keep the 2 to 4 percent Trump up polls from affecting poll aggregate sites that average polls (like RCP and 538). I note as trump climbed in certain polls, these other polls deviate in the exact opposite direction, so that he RCP and 538 average still always show Hillary up by 2 to 3 points. The only possible reason is an attempt to damp enthusiasm for Trump, the democratic win is only possible if the Trump crowd does not come out to vote.

Not saying trump is going to win, but there can be no doubt that at this point the polls are total messed up.

Anonymous Baltar October 10, 2016 3:37 PM

I honestly have no idea what the GOPe is doing. Pissing off your base is going to cost you a lot more votes than than you gain by cutting Trump lose. Now through their own stupidity, they may actually lose what they really care about, the House. It makes no sense.

Suppose even worse stuff comes out about Trump and he loses handily -- it's not going to matter next election. THE GOPe simply doesn't understand the electorate. They aren't buying themselves any goodwill from suburban woman or Latinos or whatever by renouncing Trump even if he loses. Did John McCain refusing to go negative against Obama somehow inoculate Republicans from being called racists?

It's almost as if they don't care whether the lose everything. Their invitations to the polite society cocktail parties trumps all, and being a lobbyist pays better anyway.

Blogger Thomas Henderson October 10, 2016 3:49 PM

Wild gyrations in the polls should be taken with a grain of salt. Both Hillary and the Donald are polarizing figures and combine that with the chasm that exists between the beltway and the heartland most Americans have long ago made up their minds. Any undecideds out there are undecided for a reason - deep dissatisfaction with the choice - and are unlikely to vote.

So it will come down to who gets out the vote. And this maneuvering may be a strategy by the GOPe to depress the turnout - out of spite over losing control to the deplorables.

I suspect the denizens of Sea Island are making their moves. Expect a lot more shrill from the shills as decision day draws closer.

@101 - it depends on what your definition of "win" is. :-)

The Establishment Party defines "win" as "leadership keeps their seats and perks and gravy flowing to favored constituents." It has nothing to do with reducing the debt, securing the borders, improving the lives of 3rd generation Americans, keeping any but the elites safe or employed. The Party defines Mr. and Mrs. average American being free, independent, and not needing a government program as a major LOSS. Weilding the power that comes with government programs and taxing and spending is what they exist to do. That is their high.

Trump threatens that.

Desperation. The preference cascade is building, Trump's "You'd be in jail!" is electric. Flying monkies are for sure under orders to post their fart-thought in every comment stream they can find, to try to tamp down momentum.

Trolls, ask yourself, is this any kind of a life? Sitting in some former call center tapping scripted bullshit for minimum wage? Even working as a barrista is better than that. Is this what you had in mind when you took an "internship" while wokring on women's studies / communications studies / independent studies? Wouldn't you like to do more for yourself and others than this?

Step away from your keyboard. Go outside and get some fresh air. Look around at the world. See there's more to life than smelling SJW farts all day.

Give up, trolls. Your side is losing. Better to step away from trolling now while you have some plausible deniability and a shred of dignity.

I wish I could be as optimistic as some of you. In any event, this has highlighted the serious divisions in the GOP in a way not seen since 1976.

FWIW, I'm betting Pence is nominated by acclamation in 2020 if Trump should lose. He's probably the only contender acceptable to all factions.

Doubt it. Remember how we got here. The TEA Party tried the whole "petition respectfully" by filling up the Mall and picking up all the trash. DNCe laughed and called them "teabaggers", GOPe took their money and votes then showed them the door.

So we got Trump 2016 for the LOLZ!

Now, compare Trump to TEA Party candidates like Ron Paul; ooooh, Trump is so obnoxious compared to them, right? Right. Simply Deplorable.

Ok, imagine a candidate whose radical nature is to Trump as Trump is to Paul. Makes your head hurt a little? Makes my head hurt.

But that's 2020's candidate if Trump loses this year. No idea who he is. But he's out there, and boy, is he Deplorable.

Yes. The left regard compromise as a weakness to be exploited. The right have compromised away everything of value in Western culture, as they try to be 'nice'.

Smart guns as a concept was introduced in "The Weapon Shops of Isher" (by A. E. van Vogt) in 1949. Motto of the weapon shops: "The right to buy weapons is the right to be free".

Of course the era described was many centuries in the future (story happens in 4784 AD), and the smart guns were SMART e.g. had advanced on board AI.

So yeah maybe someday smart guns will be viable. I am guessing that a sub-second DNA analysis processing time would work. That capability is a long way off.

I am really amazed that some people think it's just going to be business as usual if Clinton wins.

The demographic shift, now staggering--will increase at exponential speed. If you think you feel like a stranger in a strange land, you aint seen nothing yet.

It will become very uncomfortable to be white in the US, very quickly.

The GOP--it's finished. The Democrat party will become a warring faction of minorities (different "gangs" stronger in different regions--Muslims in Minnesota, Mexicans in California, etc.) and they'll be united on only one front--get whitey and get whitey's sh*t.

Anonymous Cadwallander J October 10, 2016 8:33 PM

I know the Soros trolls are fantasizing about their ultimate wet dream. The white populace a minority, locked in the US, quietly accepting its assignment to oblivion, all the while funding its own demise.

Quite the tidy little whimpering end to Western civilization. There was another time in this country when a large segment of the population woke up to its permanent disenfranchisement. Because of geographic division, the more populous North won. Now, however, the reds and blues are mixed a bit more thoroughly.

I wonder - who will be locked in with whom?

Anonymous That Would Be Telling October 10, 2016 8:34 PM

@139 Chris Mallory:

Ayoob has been shilling for Magna-Triggers for a couple decades now.

Over four decades, he talked about them in his 1983 book The Truth About Self-Protection, back when revolvers had much more of the market.

As a cop back then, he was very concerned about weapons retention, and what happened if that failed, and liked features like Magna-Triggers or external safeties that made guns more "proprietary", and in his many writings has cited some examples where they saved officer's lives (even a second or two of a perp fumbling with a gun who's safety is on can be enough).

He of course believes a lot of this applies to us civilians as well, who were the target audience of that excellent and encyclopedic book (topics on guns occupy only a small portion of it).

OT? Speculation: Going to put this here, as not sure where else to put it.

The LSM spends a couple days about Trumps "locker room" talk.

There was a lot of pre-debate rumors being sent forth, and one biggie was from Infowars. They said the #PussyGate was actually prepping the ground for some new attack, in which they were going to accuse Trump of being a pedo.

Then, a few hours before the debate, this one guy on Twitter suppose to be in Anonymous was saying they had major dirt and Trump knows about it. This dirt he later mentioned was they got a girl and Bill from pedo island, and they got her name and all kind of stuff.

Speculation: If all that is True, then if the Hillaroids try to smear Trump like that, Trump has a nuke to blast the sheeeiiitt out of the Clintoons.

I'm taking some time to re read "Team of Rivals", mostly to see and understand how the collapse of the Whig party and creation of the Republican party happened so rapidly. There are probably meany lessons to learn as the GOP is eclipsed by a new "American" party which forwards the agenda of the Alt Right and Alt West.

(While the American Party name is notional, it certainly gives clear signal as to what the goals of the party will be).
