That’s right: Trump was literally memed into the White House. Trump and his supporters dominated social media from day one, pumping out weaponized memes at a rate that Hillary’s campaign never could have anticipated. When the email scandal broke, the internet detectives who were just rookies at the peak of Gamergate used their experience to sniff out each and every damaging WikiLeaks revelation. Hillary supporters blame a “silent majority” of backwoods hillbillies for Trump’s victory, but they could have realized the tide was turning if only they looked online....
Like clockwork, the prominent figures who backed Gamergate also began jumping onto the God-Emperor bandwagon.
Milo Yiannopoulos, the Breitbart journalist whose very existence as an openly gay Trump supporter continues to cause cognitive dissonance in SJWs everywhere, was also the first person to break the news about the gaming journalist elites’ secret mailing list. While he was virtually unknown back in those days, Milo has now become one of the movement’s key figures. His rise to fame has been met with a predictable character assassination on the part of the mainstream media, but Milo doesn’t seem to mind, especially now that people are genuinely pushing for him to become the White House press secretary.
Gamergate may have also led to Trump picking Steve Bannon to serve as the White House chief strategist. Bannon is the executive chairman of Breitbart News, which was the only prominent media outlet to cover Gamergate as it unfolded. Sure enough, the media has been quick to scaremonger about the decision, depicting Bannon as an anti-Semitic white nationalist. The New York Times even called him a “voice of racism,” which should sound like a familiar aspersion.
There’s also Vox Day, the author and Rabid Puppies founder who penned the book SJWs Always Lie: Taking Down the Thought Police as a “guide to understanding, anticipating, and surviving SJW attacks.” He was among the first wave of a Gamergate supporters, hosting the GGinParis meetup in July 2015 along with Milo and Mike Cernovich, yet another Gamergate figure who emerged as one of the most famous pro-Trump memeologists.

An aside. I listened to Beck a little this am, something I have not done in years. Tuned in just in time for him and one of his dogs talking about the left saying Steve Bannon was such a bad guy. Beck and dog agreed that Bannon was bad news. Beck then noted that the left will say bad things about Trump appointees and the right immediately will respond that that must mean the guy is OK.
Beck may have been OK himself, at one point in his life, now, just a tool. Or, as psychotic as Hillary herself. How does he have any listeners these days?

Trump is playing nice for now. It's almost the opposite of what some liberals are saying in terms of "let's give him a chance". He appears be basically be saying the same thing back to the opposition. When they prove that they are incapable of behaving he will unleash the trolling.
It would be wonderful if he did it but I doubt he will. The best part is it would be a tacit statement that the press doesn't matter anymore so he is going to send someone out to mock them rather than try to cater to their desires.

GG was yuuuge because it demonstrated that 4th generation warfare could be effectively waged on the internet and against the conventional media--and freedom is infectious. All hail to the internet meme Masters of the Universe!
GG and the SJW assault on video games that preceded it was "Saruman comes to the Shire" for me and a lot of other disengaged men. It showed us there was no place you could hide, no idyllic world you could escape into, that would go untouched by the forces of evil.
Strategically, the SJWs should have left games and comics alone. They were pacifying features for many of the disaffected males who had chosen to or been forced to disengage from society. This was the case for me personally.
They couldn't do it, though. They couldn't leave well enough alone, because they were fanatics and fanatics don't do strategy. Outrage is their oxygen.
Since then many of us former GGers have become politically active. We began speaking to relatives, knocking on doors, donating to our own causes, drawing blood in comments sections, and lovingly crafting the rarest, dankest pepes.
It's really just starting.

@6 Nah, the weebs on the chans really didn't do some deep investigation of other insurgent tactics. The competitive culture and crossboard shitposting of the chans has a natural extension into hashtag hijacking and memeing outrage. When everyone joked about the wild west of the internet, we actually were the cowboys and the bar brawlers.
It's important to divorce GG and what followed from the left wing YouTube ecelebs wannabes who used GG to self promote. But yes. It's almost like GG was a trail run for the Trump slide.
People don't seem to understand, we were content to just play video games and get jobs that fed into the hobbies and shitpost in the evenings and maybe meet up at anime conventions and try to touch a boob or something. For a lot of the young, early channers, this was the life we led, but we became adults. So all the sudden all the weird skills picked up from a life of being hikkis and NEETs: trying to find obscure shit on the internet, become hyper focused on a subject, harass lolcows, research like we did for chanology all began to find a place, because rather than fight each other, there was now an existential threat to our culture.
I think a lot of channers were surprised to find that many of their republican family agreed to an extent with the radical freedoms of anonymity and board culture. Tits or GTFO may never show up in the constitution, but I'd bet money the Founders would agree with its principle.

The Alt-Right was the one that memed Donald Trump to the presidency, GG has been dead for a while now, certainly it was over when Trump won the Republican nomination.
You might say that GG preceded the Alt-Right, but that would be incorrect, the Alt-Right properly speaking has been around since 2008 at least, GG started on August 2014 if I´m correct. You might then proceed to point out that GG pioneer the tactis used now by the alt-right that were effective at stumping SJWs, maybe theres something that, I´m willing to conceed that. But this never ending inflation of GG to cover just about everything is getting kind of ridiculous.

@22 If that's what you think, you weren't very active in the trenches this election. The alt right is a big tent, but it has won nothing until very recently. GG was the shot heard round the world, the first time the right actually landed a punch. It built and trained foot soldiers. It caused many who were naturally inclined to fight, like me, to trim the fat and put their boots on. It set the terms of the culture war's first battles. It rallied people to a standard, it brought together the major media figures who shaped this election because they had to take notice that the cold war had gone hot.

Before GG, the core of what we now call the alt-right was busy trying to decide whether to call itself that or the dissident right or something else. Nothing wrong with that, but it was very much a fringe group without much hope of having more than a third-hand effect on things. It consisted of smart people doing important thinking, but it struggled to hold conferences without getting shut down by threats and concern trolls.
It was GamerGate, with its emphasis on rhetoric and having fun, that opened things up and showed the alt-right what could be done when ZFG. Once that attitude, which came from the chans and other long-time uncensored corners of the net, was combined with the insights of the alt-right, they produced a force that extended beyond either circle.
For our smaller circle here, the Hugo battles were an even better warmup for the Trump campaign -- all the same factions, just with different names.

I have a vision of a section of freeway running through open fields well away from any city.
Traffic drives past this section, avoiding the right lane and carefully eyeballing the scene on the outer shoulder.
On that shoulder lies a line of burned-out buses. Each bus has next or near to it, some more, some fewer, but all with burnt corpses. Some of the buses bear the marks of collisions with the semi-trucks which forced them to the shoulder. Some of them have impact damage where they collided with the buses in front or behind. Many bear holes from rifle and shotgun fire.
None of the "new Americans" who were aboard the buses escaped the inferno from the firebombs, or the gunfire which kept them pinned inside their funeral pyres.
Bus drivers quit en masse rather than transport rapefugees anywhere except to international airports for repatriation.
That was a very likely scene in the USA, had 11/8 gone differently.

If this is accurate it'd be interesting to chase down exactly _who_ is organising / organised these as the catch-all "who" has always been "the US". Now that the US *may* be being subjected to an attempt at one, it begs the question "WHO is behind them?". I don't doubt the US assets were used in the other color revolutions but I imagine that its more to do with corrupted officials / traitors rather than legitimate government

This is the Alt-Right narrative. It is a false one. Trump won because he spoke to a particular group that voted for Obama, voted for Reagan, voted for Nixon--non-educated, blue-collar whites.
