NFL Week 12

Skol Vikes! It's been a very bumpy ride, but the NFC North is still in play.

UPDATE: Not so much, it appears.

on topic cross posting rape!

[ strikethrough ] since there's unlikely to be an NFL post today, [ /strikethrough ] i'd just like to point out that the Washington Whiteskins haven't lost a game since Trump Made America Great ( White ) Again.

i'm calling it right now, the Whiteskins will win the Superb Owl this year.

and all of their players are honorary honkies in blackface.

Hey thanks for reminding me that the Vikings and Detroit was even on haha... just kidding.

Tonight will be the Bellwether game for the Steelers. Should be very interesting.

Watched the CBS pregame show for the first time this year. Miss Dan Marino more and more every season. There's just something about that Western Pennsylvania accent that's kindred.

Blogger YIH November 24, 2016 12:33 PM

Something to give one hope however: Detroit Lions 36-38-2 .487 because it could have been: Dallas Cowboys 29-18-1 .615
All three are good matchups, but the first one is key. The winner essentially will likely go on to win the NFC North. The whole division has taken a step back so don't expect a wild card team out of there.
Listen to Westwood One's radio calls for all three games here.

All I'm hoping for is that the Steelers can get ahead and stay ahead of the Ravens. The schedule is on our side but the dynasty is hurting these days. No Luck tonight so Pittsburg should destroy Indianapolis. Should...

AFC South > NFC North.

There.

I said it.

Lions start out right. Can they finally win a game without having to come from behind in the 4th?

RAIDERS!!!!

AFC South VS NFC North

Vikings - 2 wins 0 losses
Detroit - 2 win 2 losses
Green Bay - 1 win 2 losses
Chicago - 0 wins 3 losses

BOOM.

Blogger Nate November 24, 2016 1:23 PM

"No Luck tonight so Pittsburg should destroy Indianapolis. Should..."

Curious isn't it that Luck was concussed during the Titans game... but somehow he finished the game without anyone noticing.

Blogger VD November 24, 2016 2:04 PM

I would have liked to see Prater try the 67-yarder before the half.

"No Luck tonight so Pittsburg should destroy Indianapolis. Should..."

Problem is... Pittsburgh is a lousy road team. The destruction of Cleveland last week notwithstanding. The score really didn't reflect the pummelling the Steelers put on Cleveland.

The AFC North may be the worst division in football, which essentially means that the 4th seed Wild Card home game is Pittsburgh's for the taking. Gotta love the NFL's screwy divisional playoff system.

If Pittsburgh's pass rush continues to improve then there will be hope that they could actually do some damage in the AFC playoffs. I think tonight will be a good bellwether of that, as I said before.

Blogger Nate November 24, 2016 2:21 PM

" I think tonight will be a good bellwether of that, as I said before."

would be if the Colts had Luck. Luck is the most over-rated QB in football... but he is still a good QB.

Anonymous WaterBoy November 24, 2016 2:24 PM

VD @10: "I would have liked to see Prater try the 67-yarder before the half."

As would I, but he's not in the thin air of Denver any more where he kicked his 64-yarder.

No one seen kneeling or sitting during the anthem. If it took Aretha singing it in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day to accomplish that, so be it.

Anonymous WaterBoy November 24, 2016 2:52 PM

Interesting piece on Thanksgiving football in Detroit.

Anonymous Jack Amok November 24, 2016 2:52 PM

Franklin took long enough to weather her way through the song, maybe people should have been sitting. You could get hurt falling asleep on your feet

Anonymous WaterBoy November 24, 2016 2:55 PM

Nice reverse by Patterson. But they really need AD back if they make the playoffs.

Anonymous Red November 24, 2016 3:09 PM

Me, Pope Cleophus I, and a few others would go to the Lions game on Thanksgiving every year. Great atmosphere, great time. It would be great to go again some year. Go Lions.

Anonymous Sulla November 24, 2016 3:13 PM

The vikings have one of the worst third down conversions of any team.

We need another Adrian Peterson. Or a better offensive coach.

Anonymous Sulla November 24, 2016 3:18 PM

Detroit defense is tremendous, forces short passes.

Vikings might win via field goals.

Blogger Cinco November 24, 2016 3:21 PM

@Nate

It all has to with that Impact Test. The NFL mandates that they retake the test after the game and if their score is lower than their baseline, no joy.

Anonymous WaterBoy November 24, 2016 3:30 PM

Detroit wanting to preserve their perfect record of winning from behind.

Get a new script, guys!

Anonymous WaterBoy November 24, 2016 3:36 PM

Lucky break for the Lions, record intact!

Blogger pyrrhus November 24, 2016 3:39 PM

Damn Vox. The Lions just pulled a Lucy van Pelt on the Vi-Queens and pulled part of thier season out from under them with that pick and field goal.

There are many other factors involved. Cam Heyward's absence in a real test will be key. If there is actually an improvement then that is an indicator.

Shouldn't the Patriots be playing the Redskins on Thanksgiving? Winner steals and sells the loser's stadium.

Blogger YIH November 24, 2016 5:38 PM

The Redskins just demonstrated why going for a long FG is not necessarily a good idea.
55 yds, wide right. That would have made sense a < :30, not so much at 3:51

Anonymous W. Lindsay Wheeler November 24, 2016 5:52 PM

Good job Lions. But what was impressive was the Dallas Cowboys opening series--that was impressive--the whole series, except one down, was running play. I thought I would never see a successful running game but the Dallas Cowboys today showed how its done! Very Very impressive running game. That was true football.

Anonymous Hammerman November 24, 2016 6:01 PM

One can't help but wonder if the Colts have ever watched a game tape of Antonio Brown before this game.

Like, never ever?

Blogger Nate November 24, 2016 9:38 PM

the Colts secondary is terrible.

Anonymous The Original Arrogant Steelers Fan November 24, 2016 9:51 PM

But the strategy of other teams has been to take Antonio Brown out of the game at all costs. Up to and including double and triple teams. I don't get it?

Anonymous logprof November 24, 2016 10:06 PM

I realize why I'm enjoying the Pittsburgh-Indianapolis game --no Bob Costas!

I don't think the colts lineup is capable of doing that. or they may have intended to do that... but their guys are simply making bad mental errors.

Considering they lost their starting QB Sunday and had just 4 (really 3) days to adjust, the Colts are playing very well.

Anonymous The Original Arrogant Steelers Fan November 24, 2016 10:45 PM

Well I'm happy that the Colts didn't score there. I'm much happier that Tolzien didn't break his neck on that third-down attempt.

What an idiot.

Anonymous The Original Arrogant Steelers Fan November 24, 2016 11:16 PM

Well the Steelers finally put some Laundry on the field... haha okay I had to get that one in.

That's really what's great about being a Steelers fan is the nicknames, good or bad. Laundry Jones? That linebacker that they are calling Chick-fil-A-In...

Okay, I'm done now.

Castro's BFF Kaepernick is playing in Miami today.

Should be pretty good.

Anonymous Dave November 27, 2016 1:15 PM

The Giants appear to have the inside track for the first wildcard spot as they should beat the Browns today and move to 8-3. They then play the Steelers, Dallas, Detroit, Philly and Washington. Wining 2 or 3 of those 5 should guarantee them a wildcard.

Washington 6-5-1 as of now would have the second wildcard. They have Arizona, Eagles, Carolina, Chicago, and the Giants. A relatively easy schedule.

The Vikings host the Cowboys Thursday night, then
Jaguars, Colts, Giants, Packers, and the Bears. After they lose to the Cowboys, the Vikings would have to win 4 of their remaining 5 games to reach 10 wins. That's very doable with their schedule but 10 wins might not win the division or a wildcard.

Fucking Burfict. He needs to make like a good inner city dindu and get himself shot at a nightclub. Guy is a thug and needs to be put down like one.

Blogger YIH November 27, 2016 1:27 PM

I didn't see the upcoming games. The Vikes face the Cowboys anyway next week - not good.
I get the Sun. paper free every week and it had NE vs Jets, a typo had the Vegas line as Patriots by 81/2 when I saw that I said ''Yeah, that sounds about right! Oh wait...''
It's still a bye week for them.
The GOTW is Chefs vs. Broncos, nothing new there, what is new is neither is fighting for the division lead.
I sure as hell didn't think the [Las Vegas? Why the hell not? Pro sports finally went there] Raiders.
Hall of fame Commish, Pete Rozell's legacy is still working, there is no long-term (and NY dominated) teams.
But this is not good for the NFL. It doesn't ''relate'' to those who are watching football, headphones and youthful hairdo.

Anonymous Dave November 27, 2016 1:41 PM

Not so fast; if KC wins and the Raiders lose then KC takes the division lead.

Da'Raiders looking good against CAR so far. If they win it's probably a long time since the last time they beat both teams in the previous SBowl.

It's like the good ole' dayz (70's n 80's), relentless D, strong armed QB, multiple RB and WR threats, and leading in penalties again !! wooo woooo..

Blogger YIH November 27, 2016 5:46 PM

Kinda surprised with the Pats-Jets game, tied going into halftime? Huh?
Even more surprised with the Seahawks behind the Bucs by 9.

That. Division. Sucks.

Kapernick gets booed far more loudly by Cubans for honoring their dictator than he does by white Americans for dishonoring their nation.

This may be the last vestiges of White Guilt.
