The recounts are irrelevant

There is nothing in it. There never was.
Jill Stein has everything she needs to launch a presidential recount. She's got the cash, the grassroots fervor and the spotlight of an adoring media. But there's one thing she needs to overturn Trump's victory: a calendar.

Stein missed Pennsylvania's deadline to file for a voter-initiated recount. That blown deadline is a huge blow for Democrats who have pinned their hopes on recounts in the Keystone State, Michigan and Wisconsin.

"According to Wanda Murren, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of State," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday, "the deadline for a voter-initiated recount was Monday, Nov. 21."
All of the dark conspiracy theories about overturning the election were nonsensical. Jill Stein's call for a recount was driven by one thing: money. She raised far more money than was required for the Wisconsin recount, publicly stated that all the money raised would not be used for the recount, and publicly posted an incorrect date on the Pennsylvania deadline.

Cobb said they only factored in Wisconsin when they first publicized their $2.5 million goal on their website. Once the campaign realized the cost of a recount for other states, they upped the goal, he said.

The money will be used to pay off the Green Party's campaign debt, which is to say, into the bank accounts of the staffers. It would be informative to know if they knew the November 28th filing date was inaccurate when they posted it.

And then, there is this:
Just two days after confirming that he would participate in Jill Stein's recounts in WI, MI and PA, Hillary campaign attorney, Marc Elias, is now publicly calling on North Carolina Republican Gubernatorial candidate, Pat McCrory, to halt his recount efforts and concede his race.
Once you open Pandora's Box, don't think you can control the demons that are released.

The recounts narrative is a distraction from Pizzagate. The fake news narrative is priming the culture for restrictions on internet free speech. The Russians narrative is textbook SJW: lies, doubling down, and projection.

And now you know. Tune in next week for more FUD. Or, you know, don't.

A recount would not have helped Stein in any case, because her percentage of votes was so far below the frontrunners. States should have eligibility requirements to prevent such useless, essentially nuisance recounts.

The recount is nothing but Jill Stein's way of building up a war chest and getting out more name recognition for the 2020 presidential campaign.

Blogger Nate November 29, 2016 8:21 AM

Blogger Jeff Wood November 29, 2016 8:21 AM

Is it fair to wonder if, given that the Democrats are supporting these recounts, that they have assured Jill Stein that their involvement in voter fraud is minimal in those constituencies?

Still, Pandora's Box would seem a pertinent reference.

I never even considered that side of it. You almost have to respect her raw capitalistic drive and hustle behind this move. She managed to read the angry left's zeitgeist and monetize it, while pinning the blame on those evil, EVIL states with their laws and regulations. That money just makes itself...

Man, their path is paved, well funded and comfortably...and all we get is this uncomfortably small gate and really narrow and treacherous path uphill. I'm glad my flabby body can use the exercise...

I'm very interested in seeing whether or not Jill Stein will pony up the estimated 3.5 million Wisconsin wants for their recount. Due today, no less:

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/wisconsin-elections-commission-wants-3.5m-for-ballot-recount/article/2608340

That's around half of her raised money so far. Quite a lot of cash to blow on being told 'Yeah he still wins, now fuck off.'

Can't help but wonder if maybe she'll decide there's better ways to advance voter reform or whatever the fuck she's going on about.

Yes, the entire recount idea was a scam run by Stein from the gitgo, as I have been pointing out endlessly. No recount has ever closed a 20,000 vote gap, or most likely even a 10000 vote differential. Pennsylvania, at 70000, was well beyond absurd. But Stein did separate a bunch of Hillary fans from their cash, LOL, so I'm not complaining.

Blogger Basil Makedon November 29, 2016 8:50 AM

Yes, it was always a transparent scam. No recount in history has overcome a 70,000 vote deficit, which was what was required in PA to flip it to HRC. Stein only asked for recounts (well, sort of) in states won by Trump so that gullible HRC supporters would pay up.

Stein is obviously much more intelligent than I gave her credit for. Posting the incorrect date for the PA filing deadline was a wonderful touch.

Blogger Johnny November 29, 2016 8:51 AM

Perhaps in collusion with Hillary, overturning the election was in there somewhere. At this point it would seem to be a pure money thing.

Plus this can be taken as another sign of poor judgment by Hillary. Surely Trump's willingness to not investigate here was based to some extent on her not hassling him with this stuff. But then typical of the hard left mentality they never really make or stay with a deal. Always all the particulars have to be self serving.

And I bet ya the rest of the family really wishes she wasn't doing this stuff. They got their huge stash of cash and this kind of thing can produce blowback.

The reason she is given is more likely tied to making the minimum cutoff for a party to get more money out of the government for the next campaign. True, while low, her party is unlikely to make that threshold. That is just the way to try to dress up that pig to take out dancing. Truly, I am shocked by this turn of events.

No, not really. If anything, I'm amused by what has taken place in the past 24 hours. I mean, come on, the PA gap was 70k, and the effort required 30k requests from voters, which, on average, would require 3 from each of the 9,163 precincts within the Commonwealth.

The decision by the WI BoE, which has a D in the leadership role, is just gravy. The place that went through a recall election that didn't unseat the sitting R governor is going to capitulate to the demands of someone who couldn't even get 1% of the overall vote? Damn right they told them where to shove their manual recount request.

I'd love to see Trump, in passing, mention that if "counting alllll the votes" is so very important; then we MUST count the military/absentee and mail-in votes in the states that went for Trump early...

Remind the Alt-Right (and normal right) that our military DON'T get counted in many states! Let's put THEIR votes into the "who won the popular vote" counts and shut the damn left up permanently! (Don't CARE about the 'swing' states this-or-that! I want the UNCOUNTED to be counted!)

The best, the absolute best, that the Soros / DNCe could hope to get from recounts would have thrown the election to the House, where Trump would have won anyway. Although then (((they))) could have chanted "Selected, Not Elected" for a few years. Like after the 2000 Sore/Loserman ticket fail.

But as it is, Jill Stein has kind of played the role of Bernie Madoff to her community. Gee, I sure do hope this doesn't result in bad feelz between the Greens, the Berners, the Soros orgs and the DNCe. That would be a real shame, yes, a real shame.

This guy is one of those with a "dark conspiracy theory". His notion is that Stein was trying to challenge the results in MI, WI, and PA in order to delay the process past the December 13th deadline so that their electoral votes wouldn't count. Then, he speculated, the House would select Hillary because they fear Trump would drain the swamp. In his movie (to use Scott Adams' language), though, Trump outsmarted them all. I don't know if it's got any connection to reality, but it's a lot more entertaining than I expected.

At some point I am wondering if the God-emperor Trump is actually an evil-genius?

Did he put Stein up to this knowing that the number will turn even greater to his side, after the fraud votes are extracted from the counts? After all Preibus is from Wisconi-land, and with Walker as Gov they may wish to finally expose the Democrat voter fraud on a scale Veritas could never achieve. I was at one of the rallies in Wisconi-land and saw first hand the Yuugge crowds coming out to see Trump in a hard core Democrat county, as well as the yuuggee crowds in Green Bay and Milwaukee.

It would be refreshing to see if after the extracted voter fraud, the increase in Trunps lead by a substantial amount more?

Blogger Basil Makedon November 29, 2016 11:47 AM

@48 I think that may be a conspiracy too far. The far more likely scenario is that Stein needed to pay some debts, make some cash. She figures that HRC supporters still in the "Bargaining" phase of grieving are easy marks. She talks "recounts" in WI, MI and PA knowing that it would bring the marks in -- since they are desperate for any hope, strings them along and then like Lucy in Peanuts pulls the football away: "Oops, we had the wrong filing date, oh well -- thanks for the cash!"

Recall that Stein was fairly anti-HRC during the campaign.

Blogger Harold November 29, 2016 11:50 AM

@47 A closer reading of the Constitution Amendment 12 shows this wouldn't work. The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; . If a state fails to appoint it's electors, then they're not counted in the total, and the number of electors needed drops.

"Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad."

The only station that features talk radio in this area had on Glenn Beck a short time ago. He and his echo chamber were oscillating between "He's never going to drain the swamp because he's picking all of the snakes and alligators in the swamp for his Cabinet" to "He's a modern-day Machiavelli who is making the enemy of his enemy his friend."

It is sad to see the ruin of a man who has lost his way as badly as Beck (and others supposedly on the Right). He sounds almost as unhinged over Trump as the dedicated Hillary supporters.

Jerome Horowitz wrote:At some point I am wondering if the God-emperor Trump is actually an evil-genius?

I've seen estimates of Trump's IQ as high as 155. I'm quite seriously beginning to think that's a massive underestimate.

I don't just mean this as cheerleading or anything. The results he has obtained in the past two years are the stuff of legends. Even if the institutions he has captured were ripe for capture, the skill with which he did so is simply staggering. Again, without meaning to merely be cheerleading or something, what he has done in the last two years is so stupendously difficult and amazing that most people are not even capable of processing how much went into it.

Either he's the rare genius who has turned his full genius onto mastering the political world, God's favor is upon him, or both.

If I told you two years ago that one man would conquer the Democrats, the Republicans, and the media, would you have believed me, or simply laughed me out of the room?

I think his enemies are fully justified in their fear. This isn't just that the wrong guy won the prize (like when Obama did) or that they're going to momentarily lose total control of the money spigot, only to get it back in six months after they're done corrupting the guy who did win. This is catastrophe for them.

Blogger slarrow November 29, 2016 12:25 PM

@50, I think the ambiguity this guy draws on has to do with "whole number of Electors appointed" and whether that would include all 538 electors or would exclude those whose votes were nullified. He clearly thinks it's the latter, but I'm not particularly interested in defending his theory.

No, what I find delicious is the notion that these folks had a sinister plan to steal the election and were patting themselves on the back that no one had caught on to what they're doing, only to find that they'd been sabotaged and had gone through it all for nothing. To imagine these folks sitting around with shocked faces and saying, "we didn't see this coming--again" is highly entertaining. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's very, very fun to think about.

MI doesn't count the absentee votes if the spread is greater than the number of absentee votes. Since absentee votes tend to be military, they tend to lean heavily Republican.

Michigan's also all paper ballots. There can't be any hacking of digital files. The paper record is fairly reliable (short of forged & 'found' ballots). A recount should be representative of the existing count & including the absentee votes will only increase the margin of victory for The Donald.

Also now legal to sell wine in the groceries, and for restaurants to sell wine for takeout.

Seems like it would be a great crowdsourcing opportunity to (legally) acquire them, go over the registrants and try and determine the dead and the illegal, then drop off lists to somewhere appropriate, and begin cleansing the dead and the invalid from the rolls.
