Complete failure

Even the mainstream media is finally giving up on Saint Obama:
There’s no other way to describe it. Every December, Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post picks the biggest political loser of the past year. In 2013, Cillizza’s selection was Barack Obama. He cited the botched rollout of Healthcare.gov, the NSA domestic-surveillance scandal, the IRS’s targeting of tea-party groups, and the continuing questions about the administration’s actions before, during, and after the attack on Americans in Benghazi.

In 2014, Cillizza’s selection was Obama, again. The midterm elections went abysmally for Democrats, the threat of ISIS became much clearer, Russia moved into Ukraine, and former CIA director and secretary of defense Leon Panetta painted an unflattering portrait of the president’s leadership in his memoirs.

In 2015, Cillizza picked two co-“winners,” Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton. The reasons were obvious. By December 2015, it was clear Bush’s odds of winning the nomination were small and shrinking quickly. Clinton, meanwhile, looked likely to emerge bloodied from the Democratic primaries after a tougher-than-expected fight with Bernie Sanders.

This year, Cillizza assessed the surprising post-election political landscape and selected “The Democrats”:

The Democrats may be effectively locked out of power in all three branches of government for years. At the state level, after last month’s elections, they’ll control only 16 governorships and 13 legislatures. This year, punctuated by Hillary Clinton’s loss, exposed the remarkably shallow depth of the Democratic bench. The size of the Republican primary field — for which the GOP was relentlessly mocked — was also a sign of the party’s health up and down the ballot. Democrats simply didn’t have the political talent to put forward 17 candidates (or even seven). That’s partly because there’s been limited opportunity to move up in the leadership ranks. Pelosi (Calif.) and Reps. Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) and James E. Clyburn (S.C) have had a death grip on the party’s top congressional slots for a very long time. It’s also partly because the Democratic farm system is hurting.

Lined up one after another, Cillizza’s picks create a broader narrative: President Obama’s second term has been a terrible failure for the country.
It's actually hard to say which has been worse, Obama's domestic policy or his foreign policy.

When Pelosi succeeded in keeping control of the DNCe House branch I just had to smile. Fossils get moar years in charge of that party? Excellent.

It's actually hard to say which has been worse, Obama's domestic policy or his foreign policy.

Depends on what you mean by "worse". Certainly he's damaged the economy, the polity, governance, and the standing in the world.

Starting with the premise that 0bama has always pushed to damage the US, it becomes clear that his policies both foreign and domestic have worked quite well, though perhaps not as deeply as he wanted.

So you are saying because the Washington post said Obama was a failure in 2013, that the mainstream media is "finally giving up on Saint Obama"? Ok, I guess....

It's a small point, but it is NOT "all three branches of government." He is talking about the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. Together, these make up TWO of the branches of government. The third is the judiciary, which I assure you, the Democrats are not locked out of.

Idiots.

Today's Democrats are the ideological heirs to the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), it's not an exaggeration. Americans have finally realized that this extreme left party doesn't represent even 30% of the population. As decisive as this victory seems, demography is rapidly working against the GOP (aka "the White Party"). Unless illegal aliens are strongly incentivized to self-deport, the recalcitrant are forcibly removed, birthright citizenship is tossed out and legal immigration is both dramatically reduced and reapportioned to favor predominantly Europeans, we're one generation from becoming Brazil Norte. We've bought time and breathing room, but nowhere near victory.

Blogger Bob Loblaw December 09, 2016 6:19 PM

Republican control of the presidency or congressional seats is ephemeral. Last time they were in this position they abandoned any effort to advance conservatism and used that position to shake down businesses through the "K Street Project".

But SCOTUS... that's a big deal. Assuming Trump nominates jurists in the mold of Thomas and Scalia, we'll be fighting the culture war from the high ground for the next two generations.

Obama's sole training in life was as a community activist. That term gets thrown around by leftists all the time as if it is equivalent to some saint, but has never had a good definition. Here's mine: someone who schemes and organizes to tear down society in pursuit of his own vengeful/greedy goals, while fooling innately stupid minorities into thinking he's doing them a favor.

Take that background to a national and international stage, and what happens? Not only has the Affirmative Action Pustule been a huge success, but now he wants to continue with his own post-POTUS organization. Allied with supreme assholes like Soros who can supply unlimited funds, he is going to be a continuing danger to society.

From what I remember of the Obama red line threats to do a Libya treatment of Syria, I think the government got a explosion of groundswell opinion from the populace to leave it the hell alone.

I know that that was my initial response to an otherwise compatible government in my own country. I told them if they got involved, I would abandon them at the polls, no matter what else they offered.

I think millions of others did the same thing. It was an formulative event in the zeitgeist.

The only proof I have is the fact that they pulled back., which was an unusual event.

First, the distinction between domestic and foreign policy is somewhat illusory. While Mao believed that all power grew from the barrel of a gun, all guns come from economic activity.

Second, we cannot truly judge Obama without understanding his purposes. I think he was either a tremendous success or a tremendous failure, depending on what he was attempting to achieve. Sadly, I think by metric he was a tremendous success.

Hard to tell which was worse? If you have two turds that can't be polished, call it a tie. For now.

History will decide which was the greatest failure. If I had to choose, off the cuff, I would say it is domestic... if more for his causes and supposed hopes... or at least what one might presume them to be. The real question is whether he was acting as the definition of an Uncle Tom by choice or if that is just how his set of reasonings end up exhibiting. He is, after all, from the true "white" party, if on it's deathbed (obviously). I honestly hope he has destroyed civil rights of a racial, and perhaps "religious" nature. It never really can be "fair". One culture, or another, will choose, rule, and dominate. There is not even room for a vacuum, for long.

Too late for South Africa, but perhaps we can learn... or this is just a kicking of the can before we go that way too.

Blogger Thucydides December 10, 2016 1:09 AM

Someone should help the Bernie Bros out by forming a new American Socialist party. Advocate for small money donations (the Dems obviously only represent their big money donors), elimination of vote fraud (a stolen vote is one taken from the workers) and creating a White house "Ministry of Truth" along with the usual freestuffz and you should be able to pull enough votes to lock the Dems out of power for decades to come.

Blogger Doom December 10, 2016 1:13 AM

Lazarus and Harsh,

A C? Fine, but that is by your measure. If Zero meant to destroy, as I have indicated, that which created even him, that is yet to be determined. Did he end "civil rights"? If so, and that was his purpose, how then would you rate him? Now, if that was not his goal, but is his true legacy, again... I consider him, I suppose, as a president, as a ruination, for my own purposes. But that might have been what was needed to wake the unwoken. It COULD turn out to have been for the best. I think he broke much. I'm just not sure of his intentions. Not sure he actually had any.

Just... it isn't quite as simple as what you think or want, but what is. And history, and the future by how things go, will decide this. Not you, you, me, or even us, not now.

Blogger Kristophr December 10, 2016 1:17 AM

In the foreign policy sense, two nations can have at it and war against each other and then come out the other end with a problem resolved. It sometimes happens that way.

In the domestic sense, Obama has demographically swamped this nation. I don't recognize the Third World multiculti bazaar that my neighborhood is becoming. I thought I lived in a nondescript white bread suburb in the Rust Belt. A simple trip to my neighborhood Wal-Mart is eye opening. And frightening. Indians, Muslims and Mexicans appear to be the majority.

These aren't my people. This isn't my country.

Obama's domestic policy will be some of the final nails into America's coffin.

@14 Consider, the judges Clinton appointed in the 1990's are getting very close to retirement. Consider Trump will have at least 1 and as many as 3 SCOUTS appointments.

Actually four is a real possibility although I admit three is more likely. Scalia's (hand over heart) now empty seat for one. Thomas' for another. Thomas has been making retirement noises. As has Ginsberg, although she will now certainly try to hold on as long as possible but she is now 83 and I don't see her living to 92.

That leaves Kennedy who is I admit spry for 80 and likely to try and die in harness. However there is a major difference between 80 and 88.

Now there are other factors in play here. Trump's getting reelected for a start and while I view that as statistically likely, I can hardly guarantee it.

A bigger problem with the four justice scenario is the Republican's maintaining control of the Senate. The likelihood of GOP Senators resisting the urge to shoot themselves in the foot is at best a dim one.

Blogger Cataline Sergius December 10, 2016 3:32 AM

The dems faith in Obama, and all white people for that matter, who voted for him, was born from extreme virtue signaling and pathological altruism--mixed in with large doses of decades-old indoctrination that black people are doctors, lawyers, the "one honest" janitor, astronauts and the moral compass of various themes and story lines. It's literally never ending (even now). Obama was in a sense, the culmination of EVERYTHING they believed, or WANTED to believe--and that is hard to let go of, because of the damage it does to the psyche, not to mention the burn, the DEEP down burn of knowing your opponents were right about him, and the (false) narrative in general.

These are the cucks (of any political belief) who don't "get it" until the barbarians are well BEYOND the gate, busting down their doors ready to rape and pillage. They are the compliant kneelers when the bad guys tell them to prepare for a bullet in the back of the head.

Even in kneeling, they hope to convince themselves and us, that we are wrong, and this is the "exception"...and in doing so, hope to drag us into the pile of bodies along with them.

When and if an actual internal war (civil or multi-regional or asymmetrical) happens at any point, they will be the most dangerous, unreliable and unrepentant--to the very end.

@45 Are you? Reading comprehension is not your friend so I will assist you. Read slowly.

Success and failure are relative to your goals.

If Obama's goals were to ruin the country, move the nation closer to a civil war, destroy the US economically, weaken its military and to spread radical Islam at home and abroad then he is an almost unqualified, raging success.

If Obama's goals were to revive the US economy, end the Wars of Infinite Empire and secure the US against Islamic terrorism while taming the liabilities of the Federal Leviathan then he is a complete and utter failure.

It depends on what he is/was trying to do. Personally, I suspect that his goals are more aligned to ruin and Islam, so by his own metrics he has been successful. By my metrics, he is beneath Carter and almost in Buchanan territory.
