Fighting for due process

The Minnesota Golden Gophers take a strong stand for due process for college men:
Minnesota football players announced Thursday night that they were boycotting all football activities in the wake of the suspensions this week of 10 teammates. The school did not specify the reasons for the suspensions in Tuesday's announcement. Ray Buford Sr., the father of defensive back Ray Buford Jr., one of the suspended players, said Wednesday the suspensions resulted from a Title IX investigation conducted by the university into an alleged sexual assault, which was separate from a police investigation into the alleged assault in the early hours of Sept. 2.

The other suspended players are sophomore running back Carlton Djam; freshman quarterback Seth Green; sophomore defensive back KiAnte Hardin; redshirt freshman defensive back Dior Johnson; freshman defensive lineman Tamarion Johnson; junior running back Kobe McCrary; sophomore defensive back Antonio Shenault; freshman quarterback Mark Williams; and freshman defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr.

In a statement read by senior wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky, the players said: "The boycott will remain effective until due process is followed and suspensions for all 10 players involved are lifted."

The statement said the players were forced to take action after an unsatisfactory meeting with athletic director Mark Coyle in which they "wanted answers but received misleading statements."

Coyle and university president Eric W. Kaler released a joint statement after the players' announcement that read: "We understand that a lot of confusion and frustration exists as a result of this week's suspension of 10 Gopher Football players from all team activities. The reality is that not everyone can have all of the facts, and unfortunately the University cannot share more information due to federal laws regarding student privacy.

"We fully support our Gopher football players and all of our student-athletes. Situations like this are always difficult, and the decision was made in consultation with and has the full support of President Eric Kaler. The decision was based on facts and is reflective of the University's values. We want to continue an open dialogue with our players and will work to do that over the coming days. It's important that we continue to work together as we move through this difficult time."

There has been some confusion about whether or not Gophers coach Tracy Claeys backed the decision to suspend the players. Coyle and Kaler said Claeys was consulted, but the players said Thursday night they did not believe their coach had a say in the matter.

Claeys spoke out in support of his players on Twitter after their decision to boycott. Former Minnesota Vikings star cornerback Antoine Winfield Sr. said his son did nothing wrong and blistered university leadership for what he said was a lack of communication.

"If the president and athletic director keep their jobs, my son, Antoine Winfield Jr., will not attend the University of Minnesota,'' Winfield Sr. said.

The players are demanding a closed-door meeting with members of the board of regents without the presence of Coyle or Kaler.
If other bowl-bound football teams join the Gopher protest against the complete lack of due process afforded young men in college who are accused of sexual misconduct, I suspect the extralegal nonsense of the last 30 years will be undone rather quickly.

No one is saying that football players, particularly black football players, don't behave badly from time to time around women and break the law. I know a woman who was raped by a black football player at the University of Minnesota, and it wasn't one of those next-day-regret "rapes" either. But that's clearly not the situation here since the police have already investigated and the players were not even arrested, let alone charged with any crime. Moreover, only three players were investigated by the police, but ten are now suspended by the university at the behest of the Title IX investigation.

It would certainly make for an intriguing dilemma if the universities were forced to choose between their SJW-converged internal justice system-substitutes and the football-generated revenue produced by the players.

There is a reason this type of story always seems to creep up - moving the goalposts. Leftists keep redefining the terms which leave men as sitting ducks, requiring massive legal costs (so there is an element of that verminous class desiring obscurity).

SJWs in this context deserve contempt. They are not about creating a fair environment, but rather one based on fear, intimidation.

the accusations seem most likely untrue in which case this is just obvious nonsense... I know in prior posts I was wrong to think trump had little chance to win a rigged election where democrats falsify votes, but I was wrong when I read 52% of white women voted for trump, I thought it would have been 35%of white American women...

Don't know enough about American culture, but if they are innocent they deserve no hassle (not even a complaint)

There is a video. I haven't seen it. One who has says that everything appears to be consensual. This very much appears to be the campus rapemongers doing all they can to justify their very fine salaries and benefits. It is important for them to justify their jobs, as no one outside of the academy would pay them to do what they do.

Every father of a girl attending a college or university needs to contact the college president and demand an explanation of why he should trust his daughter to such a place of rape and exploitation.

I've yet to see a multimillion dollar booster club of alumni and local businesses devoted to supporting OCR star chambers on campus. So we got that going for us.

Of course, the Feds have been filling that role so far, so there are still many plays to be run int his game.

I have known about both cases where

-Black college athlete legitimately rapes a woman.

-Black college athlete does not rape a woman, but is falsely accused.

The high number of players (10) suspended aroused my suspicions, too, and me think this was a SJW-converged move.

Had it simply been the 3 players under investigation, that might have been a more reasonable move, depending on whether the police uncovered anything significant or not.

The real answer is, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" nor anything like unto it. No sex with anyone before marriage. No getting to second base.

Guess what, that ends it all. And a lot of people still live by that standard.

Don't confuse law with morality. And you're not going to stop sex before marriage unless you're going to marry girls off at 14.

I am going to admit I am ignorant of the ins and outs of title IX. My understanding is that is a law to ruin men's sports by requiring equal participation for women in sports. I am really confused how it applies to these types of allegations? Is it because there were 10 players involved and not an equal number of woman in the incident?

If this legitimately falls under title IX then it reinforces the need for eliminating that law.

Football and lacrosse players are not animals. They CAN keep their pants zipped and clothes on in the presence of pretty women.

Stop sex before marriage? You are right. It doesn't happen. But make it the expectation and the moral principle of society, and films of 10 morally immature men having sex with a woman will disappear. And MOST men and women will live by the rule once again.

It does pretty much end it all even in that case, because the need to PROVE a legal case once again becomes the standard. The current quicksand of death by accusation pretty much disappears when most men and women accept God's standard instead of the standard of the most significant philosopher of our time, Hugh Hefner.

There are still churches, universities, and colleges that teach the standard. Some insist on that standard and get it while allowing some room for repentance. And though today most have fallen, all can repent and change.

Do you remember when BYU's best basketball player was suspended right before the big tourney recently? It taught the whole student body that sexual purity is important and forgiveness is available to return to morality.

Blogger Cail Corishev December 16, 2016 7:08 AM

Whenever women (or feminized institutions on behalf of women) behave badly, you will get men showing up to blame it on men or society in general and insist on impossible idealized solutions -- anything to take the focus away from women behaving badly and men being treated unfairly. It happens every single time, and that's what Lobo Util is doing here.

Of course they always lie. But the things that help you stay safe include not having a film of 10 football players watching and/or participating in consensual sex with a woman.

Of course I am assuming they have the film as 4. Gordon states.

And yes, women have forever been having sex and then saying they are pregnant in order to get married. Then somehow they have a "miscarriage". So the rules have always been a problem. But shotgun marriages wouldn't have happened without sexual sin beforehand.

Since men cannot control women they should control themselves. Problem solved. Don't pretend you are an animal with no self control in the presence of a woman in heat.

And if you are going to have sex, better use the rules I saw expounded by Mike Cernovich for the aftermath.

Yes, that's what your type always drags it back to. Women are frivorcing men and stealing their children? Men need to pick better wives. Women are getting drunk and jumping guys and claiming regret rape the next day? Men need to stop accepting free sex from hot chicks.

It's always, always, always the fault and responsibility of men, and we just need to get all men to behave correctly and make society perfect (but not by putting traditional limits on female behavior, you'll notice), and then we'll never need to discuss bad female behavior ever again. And everyone lived happily ever after.

But why can't men control women? They used to. Why are you willing to surrender to women's whims?

I doubt both sides. Football players, because of the money and fame involved, truly often aren't rigorously investigated. On the other hand, the universities investigative rigor ended at them being male. A pox on both of their houses. May they bankrupt the educational industrial complex of which they both infest!

Or?

Again, you are missing the entire point of the post and asking for something that will never happen. We are not going back to a society in which shame is a significant motivator. Ain't gonna happen. It's irrelevant that it might be better if it did.

We are talking about due process, which IS an achievable goal if we make it unpalatable and unprofitable for those tasked with providing justice to continue placating the raging PC nutbags that currently pull their strings.

"It would certainly make for an intriguing dilemma if the universities were forced to choose between their SJW-converged internal justice system-substitutes and the football-generated revenue produced by the players."

The rape culture inquisition is driven by a revenue stream as well - the demand from parents to re-impose in loco parentis without having to admit they were wrong. As big as football is, that one's likely bigger. Parents don't want their little girl to be gang-banging while she's getting her feminist merit badge and they want the colleges to stop her whatever their rationalization.

Ultimately it will be the biggest stream of all - the trial bar - that will decide matters, and due process has been very lucrative for them.

SJW bullies only matter when given a measure of power over others' lives by institutional madness or as a side-effect of others' arrogation of (illegitimate) power.

Universities are the exemplar of the latter. They enjoy the convenient fiction that an 18-year-old is "adult" (the mine-field complexity of modern life belies this every moment of the day) and the schools encourage all manner of actions no sane adult who has actual adult responsibilities would consider.

The result is that students are very, very easily coerced by the actual adults (the faculty & staff.) Is it any wonder that SJW tyrants find this the most fertile of fields to give full rein to their most vicious impulses?

Anyone who likes to shame, bully and threaten others has more opportunity as a college administrator or tenured instructor than anyone save, perhaps, a federal-level cop.

Universities are cesspools. A retired US Marine colonel who taught in the Comp Sci department of my sons' college fancied himself a Savior Of The Kingdom, rooting out evil in every class he taught. He did this by accusing a certain percentage of students of cheating, every semester.

My oldest son, on a full academic scholarship, drew the short straw when the TA discovered he and his roommate were in the same class (both were accused.) The asshole professor promised to have them both expelled.

Not exactly an SJW, but did that matter? Turned out the school knew full well that he was in this habit, and when the two accused students produced the work that led up to their homework submission, proving their programs developed along different paths, the whole thing was quietly dropped. After a couple weeks of disruptive, sleepless hell, that is.

Would this dickhead have had the balls to do this if his classes were full of 30-year-olds with enough life experience to go on the offensive from minute-one?

As with the "news" media today, the people running universities are very busy destroying what little foundation for their existence is left. The future belongs to people who obtain the skills and knowledge for their careers via a path that sidesteps the universities, or simply takes from them (for free) what is needed. Those who insist on paying $100,000 to $500,000 for a BA or BS (and the Full College Experience) prove again the old adage about a fool and his money.

Blogger dc.sunsets December 16, 2016 8:38 AM

Maybe that's because they're multi-billion. Open your eyes.

Every horror of today can be traced back to 35 years of astronomical monetary, then asset inflation, putting vast sums of wealth in the hands of people who should NEVER have that kind of power. This asset mania has warped every aspect of our society into unrecognizability.

An asset mania fueled by credit inflation has empowered exactly the wrong people. It remains my belief that when the bubble does finally and irrevocably burst, the "wealth" that fuels universities (via endowments), foundations (like Ford, Robert Wood Johnson, etc.) and all of Uncle Sam's various Social Justice domestic and foreign boondoggles will evaporate.

Life may serve up a different kind of difficulty, but I think most of this Utopian-Abstraction-Universalist IDIOCY will be crushed, and its proponents thrown figuratively (and literally, in some cases) into the ditch of history.

I doubt it as well, it's what I call an ''Ectcetra Bowl'', Christmas week or earlier, that only alums and the truly hardcore college fans even notice.
Nearly all genuine ''campus'', I used to live near a college, the term 'campus' is very loosely defined, not only the school and it's adjacent dorms/student housing but several bars, convenience stores, restaurants, non-college residences, and in the example I mentioned, a supermarket (until I moved, I was on that school's ''campus'' nearly 24-7) is either an African ''student''-athlete or a local dindu on coed.
Being that the (non-college) cops didn't even arrest suggests she got blitzed at a local bar, woke up next morning not remembering much other than the nice White football player she talked (and maybe gave her phone#) to early on but refused to even go to the local emergency room to have a ''rape kit'' run so she didn't miss any classes.
Will the school back down? I'm betting not - even with the risk of losing the $1 million+ payout for forfeiting the game.

Blogger Gordon December 16, 2016 10:39 AM

IronSun, not a lot of leverage. The sum is trivial in terms of the athletic and university budgets. This isn't Texas, where the football program rakes in $110 million per year, but Minnesota is a big program and football supports a lot of Title IX sports for the gals like "crew." The coaches for that program have admitted that they grab women with the right physique off the sidewalk with, "Hey baby, I got your full-ride scholarship right here."

This is not a new story. It's been going on for months. A few players were suspended, then reinstated after police declined even to arrest a single one of them. Minneapolis cops may not be the most enlightened force in the US, but the mayor and city commission is fully SJW, and would not allow a whitewash. Police and county attorney agreed there just was no evidence. They have seen the video.

Then the "victim" got a restraining order against 4 players, forcing the team to not allow them to dress for home football games. That was "negotiated" away after a couple of weeks.

But the campus rape harpies do not give up. There are still people defending the lying twat at UVa. And they are not giving up at Minnesota. The attorney for the players is so gleeful he can barely restrain himself. He was planning to file his civil rights suits after the bowl game. Now he's rushing to do it, probably early next week. He can smell that fine, fine leather interior of that S-class in his daydreams now.

Blogger Gordon December 16, 2016 10:46 AM

Mind one, this is Minnesota. They had a "Director of Women's Athletics" who was so toxic that when she was finally forced out, they refused to fill the position. But in her time she bullied the adminstration into building separate, exclusive arenas for gals' hockey and basketball, despite having perfectly good ones already that were fully available for games. UM administration is gamma central.

Colleges are a great place for these battles over principle, but this "event" is better used as a lesson for parents intending to send Junior (or worse, Princess) to Cut-Class U., for men who refuse to see how stupid and self-destructive are many young women, and for young women who apparently require object lessons in seeing to their own safety administered with a claw hammer.

When the fraternity was kicked out of a school because of a video on private property had people say the N word, the same school had a groid footballer who broke a blond girls mandible/jaw after she turn down a sexual advance in public with no consequences. There have been colleges that have given foreign students warnings so they could flee the US before being investigated for rape.

@58
I would tend to agree, and I still can't figure out why higher education in the US has sportsball franchises attached to them in the first place. Well, yes, it's an enormously profitable business, and it brings in lots of money, and it's a vehicle for the SJWs to bring in lots of vibrant convicted felons who don't belong there, but those surely can't be the only justifications, can they?

The purpose of the land-grant college system as established in frontier areas in the 19th Century was to train physicians, schoolteachers, and lawmen for frontier towns, and officers for the newly established territorial militias. Organized athletics are orthogonal to education.

College teams these days are made up almost entirely of sullen, short-tempered, illiterate dindus with room-temperature IQs and long, colorful violent felony records. As a general rule such individuals shouldn't be on a college campus in the first place, not even to mow the grass or mop the floors. It's predictable that from time to time Rastus will chimp out and grab a white girl by the ponytail and drag her into the bushes.

Iron Sun: None...the school gets the money, not them...

of which the school receives nothing if the players refuse to show up for the game.

therefore, the players have a LOT of leverage.

it may, in fact, put the school on the hook for liability and losses if the game is not played. you'd have to see the contract to know.

How this will shake out only the legalese in the contract(s) know for sure. But if the team is forced to forfeit quite likely the City of San Diego, National Funding (main sponsor, had to google it) other sponsors (if any) and Disney/ESPN have quite a bit invested in this game going off as planned. There's going to be repercussions if the game has to be cancelled, or rescheduled, or a substitute team placed.

"According to police records, a woman told officers she was drunk when she was sexually assaulted in Djam's apartment by several men on Sept. 3, including some of the suspended players. She said her sexual contact with two men may have been consensual, but her contact with four of them was not. Several players told police it was consensual, and an investigator who watched a video Djam took of the incident wrote that 'she does not appear to be upset by the sexual activity and does not indicate that she wants it to stop ... and the sexual contact appears entirely consensual."

BOOM! Right there! Unless the video is misogynistic, I think that may very well settle it. So glad I graduated college when I did. What a mess it is now. I don't give to my first alma mater and my second may soon be on the chopping block, as well.

"But that's clearly not the situation here since the police have already investigated and the players were not even arrested, let alone charged with any crime. Moreover, only three players were investigated by the police, but ten are now suspended by the university at the behest of the Title IX investigation."

Shh...don't tell the feminists that!

"The real answer is, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" nor anything like unto it. No sex with anyone before marriage. No getting to second base.

Guess what, that ends it all. And a lot of people still live by that standard."

@9 Agreed but unfortunately people will flaunt and have flaunted the Sixth Commandment since the fall. Having said that, women need to be taught too that sexual intercourse or acts have emotional impacts, as well as physical. Furthermore, teaching them to be mindful of their surroundings etc, what used to be called common sense is now lacking nearly everywhere.

"Have you learned nothing? What part of "always lie" do you find hard to understand?"

@17 It's like those fretting out over the media portrayal of the President-elect. Have they learned nothing from the election cycle?

"I don't the complete details of this story, but is it so hard for SJW clowns to even consider that SOME women actually like having a train ran on them? Yeah, it's creepy, but I have personally been in situations where the offer came up to join in on something like that."

@28 Once you step into depravity it's easier to go further down that hole (no pun intended). Some women like it. SJWs can't comprehend it.

"Men shouldn't be going to college anymore."

@29 Until there's a replacement that will be accepted by med schools and/or places for engineers to train where they're accepted without sheepskin, it'll still be necessary in the short term.

"It remains my belief that when the bubble does finally and irrevocably burst, the "wealth" that fuels universities (via endowments), foundations (like Ford, Robert Wood Johnson, etc.) and all of Uncle Sam's various Social Justice domestic and foreign boondoggles will evaporate."

@36 It'll be delicious to watch.

"College is where yuppy dipshits send their girls for 4 more years of semi-supervision and where in reality many of them take more dick than Jenna Jamison. "

@43 That was a disturbing visual, heh.

@60 Being the alumni of two Morrill Land Grant colleges, I can assure you their original purposes still exist and then some. Hell, the one where I got my master's at supplied more officers to the Second World War than the service academies.

@Lobo Until - Stop trying to make this a debate about sexual morality. That is not the issue at hand.

Anonymous Eric the Red December 16, 2016 12:01 PM

So on the SJW victimology hierarchy, feminists are higher than dindus. It's always good to keep abreast of these things, since they shift around so much from incident to incident.

Yes, the dindus deserve due process. Assuming that happens, and the shrieking lying feminist cunt gets thrown in jail (fat chance), then the dindus should be tossed out of university anyway, because intellectually they don't deserve to be there in the first place. Or do you really think they're working hard at a great edumacation while playing football?

When tradition and Christianity ruled, the elements contributing to these kinds of situations never happened in the first place. But if an adverse event did occur, it was handled at a local informal level for the benefit of and to the satisfaction of the community and those most intimately involved.

Fast forward to today, when the almighty federal State not only sets morality for everyone, but enforces it, crams it down everyone's throat, with their coffers of partly-stolen, partly-faux money.

Is this really a better situation than a traditional society? Really ??? Anyone who thinks so is not now and never will be an American.

But that's clearly not the situation here since the police have already investigated and the players were not even arrested, let alone charged with any crime.

This is why they're fighting back. Getting suspended for rape shows up when somebody Googles your name, regardless of guilt, and that ain't right.

You're confusing Christian culture with the culture you're living in. The most important bit of information you can pass on to your kids is "these are not our people and they don't share our values".

The alternative is telling your son it's okay to let people know he's a virgin because they probably all cherish your Christian values.

Blogger Aeoli Pera December 16, 2016 2:02 PM

It would certainly make for an intriguing dilemma if the universities were forced to choose between their SJW-converged internal justice system-substitutes and the football-generated revenue produced by the players.

I have an initial feeling about this...parasites would prefer to maintain their hold rather than continue sucking blood, if it's a choice between the two. So I suspect they'll double down.

Blogger Blake Felice December 16, 2016 2:17 PM

My favorite part is where they won't release details because of federal law, but actually following federal law with regards to due process? Nope!

college sports were explicitly designed to divert the masculine impulse for war and violence into frivolous inanity.

this purpose existed prior to 1900 but REALLY got rolling after the killing fields of WW1.

you can find this talked about explicitly by the people who founded the original football teams.

It is quite obvious that the solution to this is to expand Title IX to include supervised group sex, and another job for a D voter
