NFL Week 15

Word is that AD is back. Frankly, I'd prefer he'd stay out for the rest of the season and get completely healthy, but as this might be his last one in purple, it will be nice to see him play.

Concur.

Watching GB and Chicago play in the cold is always a good time.

Anonymous Dave December 18, 2016 1:20 PM

Unfortunately for AD the Vikings o-line has only become more ineffective. They're close to setting a record for the fewest yards per rush in a season.

Blogger YIH December 18, 2016 1:32 PM

Activated and will start. The news is actually pretty good for the Vikes this week, All Day will be facing the Dolts, so even if he's not 100% - well, neither are they.
The Lions go to NY, to face a team with a better record - and worse, outdoors. The Bucs, who currently have the last playoff spot, head to Dallas. Vegas favors them but who can know if they'll slack off. The Pack, BTW, are in Chicago, so weather isn't a factor for either team, because it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. It'd be nice if the Bears upset the Pack, but realistic? Not.

Would be nice if the Vikings would show some life today....

I have to agree, down 17-0 halfway through the 2nd. Not good. I was expecting the return of All Day to at least provide a psychological boost, if not an actual ground game. I think it was Nate last week that noted it's been the defense that's really lost a step, and that's can't be All Day's fault. The first 6 weeks they were the best defense, now they can't even stop the freakin' Colts.

Did the writer mean Adrian Peterson?

Anonymous Faceless December 18, 2016 2:06 PM

@7

The writer is Vox Day. We usually talk to him directly on this blog.

AD is Adrian Peterson because he goes All Day.

I don't follow the NFL.

The fans are booing the Vikings.....

Blogger YIH December 18, 2016 2:35 PM

Brock Osweiler benched by Texans.
And the Broncos go ''Whew! Thank God that wasn't us!''. The Texans are stuck with him.
This article is interesting, ''Which QBs are hitting the road next year?''
Of course Tony Romo is one they think should. I think he's shouldn't, I keep thinking ''yeah, Dak Prescott is blowing up this year, but he's black, seen it many times before, good now, then it's downhill''. An example of that is one of the other QBs they mention as ''Candidates for release'': Krapernig. An example of the Lawrence Taylor rule: If you're going to do stupid/controversial things off the field, you'd better be an MVP on the field.

Anonymous VFM #6306 December 18, 2016 2:46 PM

Osweiler QB Rating today: 26.1
Tom Savage QB Rating today: 104.5

Brock Osweiler was benched for being quarter-Savage.

Damn if the Titans wouldn't be beating the Chiefs already if it hadn't been for turnovers. They are a legitimately good team. They are definitely the best all-around team in the AFC South. I hope they make it in, because their playoff game(s) would be good. Houston or Indy will just get jacked on, respectively, offense and defense.

The NFL is better when the ol' Oilers are legitimate.

Not even watching the game and is making me smile. Go horse!!!!

Blogger Conan the Cimmerian December 18, 2016 3:27 PM

@10

I think the salary cap makes it impossible to get rid of Romo. If you look at the position as a total cost, why not keep Romo and Prescott both? Prescott is a fourth round pick rookie. He has no cap hit. You can keep both and pay both.

If they trade him, they will take a big cap hit (though I do not know it, although I am sure someone has probably already calculated it). I have heard the hit would be fairly prohibitive.

@10 Looked it up. Romo would cost $14 million in dead cap if traded in the offseason.

Why not keep him and give him another year to either play as a great back up/have an outside chnace to earn his position back? The only reason to trade him would be for stupid compensation in draft picks/talent or out of loyalty to Romo.

If I were owner I would tell him you are here until your contract is up, and you will have any chance you get to take the position back.

Blogger YIH December 18, 2016 3:37 PM

It's over for the Vikes, they had to win and they didn't, shit happens.
Semi OT: They surrendered:
The 10 players remain suspended following reports of sexual assault allegations. But the team decided it will play in the bowl game after university officials assured them the teammates will be treated fairly, senior wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky told reporters.
Hmm, perhaps there was a book they should have read...

Blogger Breadbasket December 18, 2016 3:41 PM

What happened to the Vikings defense?

Blogger Nate December 18, 2016 3:42 PM

jesus... remember when the vikings were a super bowl contender?

no...

me either.

Blogger YIH December 18, 2016 3:46 PM

Completely OT: It's something I've noticed over the years, December seems to be the month Blogger (Google) derps on links, not a problem the rest of the year, but once homes get lights on them, maybe inserting a link works, maybe it doesn't.
Here was the ''They surrendered'' link that missed the first time.

Anonymous CarpeOro December 18, 2016 3:56 PM

Dang it. Hoped against prior experience that the Lions would continue coming from behind in the 4th quarter based on this season. Game has been weak showing for Lions.

Blogger Nate December 18, 2016 3:57 PM

why... why would you go for two? I was literally pleading with the TV for the Titans to kick the extra point

Anonymous Peter #0231 December 18, 2016 4:00 PM

Anonymous VFM #6306 December 18, 2016 4:10 PM

Andy Reid cracks me up. He is as bad with clock management and end game as Belichick is good. Good for the Titans. They better make the playoffs.

Blogger Megamerc December 18, 2016 4:24 PM

The Chief's loss is frustrating to no end for KC fans. Time out before a missed field goal to give Titans a second chance and the win. Ugh.

Blogger Right Republican December 18, 2016 4:25 PM

YIH maybe "the Dolts" aren't so bad. Sure made the Vikes look like a high school team today. Anyway, injuries are devastating most teams this year, especially the Colts.

Blogger exfarmkid December 18, 2016 4:27 PM

OH SHIT!!!! OH SHIT!!!! OH SHIT!!!! WE BEAT THE CHIEF AT ARROWHEAD!!!!

Jealous I am. Have forgotten the thrill of honestly earned vicarious victory.

Blogger Nate December 18, 2016 4:28 PM

Reid is a really good coach... but seriously... they need to hire a guy to hand the clock for him. He's just terrible at it

''I was literally pleading with the TV'' WAT? That and watching TV won't help Nate...

Anonymous VFM #6306 December 18, 2016 4:44 PM

Reid would be a great coach if his philosophy wasn't "We'll make it up in overtime."

He got the ''All Day'' moniker because of his (non-injured) ability:
https://infogalactic.com/info/Adrian_Peterson:
He finished 2012 with 2,097 rushing yards, the second-most ever for a running back in a single season.
They cheated him, they wouldn't let him get the record.

Blogger Cail Corishev December 18, 2016 5:33 PM

Nate, yeah, Reid can be so good the rest of the game, and then find a way to get it wrong in the end. It's easy to say now, but maybe it's not a good idea to call a timeout on a kicker when he's going for a near-career long in 5 degrees. Odds were he was going to miss, so "freezing" him actually gave him a chance to see how short he was and give it some extra the second time. Maybe save the psych-out stuff for when it's a gimme and your only hope is to mess with his head.

But that's what they get for letting the Titans get that close in the first place. I couldn't believe how soft the Chiefs were playing, just giving them 10-20 yards underneath as if there wasn't still plenty of time. Titans' running game was impressive, though.

Tyreek (or however it's spelled) Hill is a heck of a lot of fun to watch. He makes a move, and it looks like the defense is going to cut him off, and then he takes two strides to their one and he's gone.

My poor, delusional dad thinks the Lions have a shot at the Superbowl this year.

Anonymous Dave December 18, 2016 6:26 PM

Reid still has the same flaws we came to know and hate with the Eagles. He's a good coach but not a great coach. It's very entertaining to watch him build lofty expectations with another team only to crash and burn over and over.

Blogger Alexandros December 18, 2016 7:24 PM

That cardinals game; why do I even bother watching nfl football anymore? Roughing the passer call on the cleanest hit I've ever seen. How dare they touch a quarterback and hurt fantasy football numbers I guess. Fuck this gay game I'm done.

Dude. You are going to miss Goodell having to hand the SB trophy to Brady and the reception at the Trump White House.
Go to your happy place for awhile and you will be ready for next week.

They host the Bucs, then go to Dallas. Not impossible.

Yah. Maybe Gerry Jones will get Romo put in, then its clear sailing for the Lions. Maybe the old guy knows of what he speaks.

May it be his last act as commissioner! (Not a Pats fan either, just hate Goodell)

Anonymous WaterBoy December 18, 2016 9:02 PM

YIH @42: "They host the Bucs, then go to Dallas. Not impossible."

Nope. They go to Dallas (L), then host GB (L).

They lose the division to the Packers, and finish 9-7. If they get a wild card, they lose that game, too.

This. Is. The. LIONS!

Cinco wrote:(Not a Pats fan either, just hate Goodell)

Me too. Any other year I would have to hate the Pats, but with the Brady-Belichik / Trump connection, I have to subsume my feelings for the greater good.

Blogger Megamerc December 18, 2016 10:47 PM

Heh. I had forgotten about the Brady connection to Trump. That does make the Pats a little more likeable this season.

Despite their flaws, I'll take the Alex Smith-Andy Reid combo over most of the other teams' current qb-coach duos. It seems to work around two thirds of the time and the result is miles better than a losing record every year.

I can think of several I would prefer. including quite possibly Mularkey and Mariota

Anonymous VFM #6306 December 19, 2016 1:43 AM

Mularky is bold as hell. Not sure he's smart, but the fact that he banked on Reid being Reid with that 2-point try definitely says something.

Anonymous VFM #6306 December 19, 2016 3:09 AM

So, the AFC should be this for the playoffs, if everyone does his job:

1. New England (Beats the Jets and Miami)
2. Kansas City (Beats Denver and San Diego)
3. Baltimore (Beats Pittsburg and Cincy)
4. Tennessee (beats Jax and Houston)
5. Oakland (beats Indy, loses at Denver)
6. Pittsburg (loses to Baltimore beats hell out of Cleveland)

Blogger Megamerc December 19, 2016 12:54 PM

"I can think of several I would prefer. including quite possibly Mularkey and Mariota"

I can think of several as well. They still do better than most, and that's worthwhile if not ideal.

Blogger Megamerc December 19, 2016 1:06 PM

"So, the AFC should be this for the playoffs, if everyone does his job"

I agree with everything except for Pittsburgh losing to Baltimore. Pittsburgh will win that game.

Then again, I thought the Chiefs were going to beat the Titans this week
